Devon - The Next Step

Recap of the end of Chapter 2:

I found Jason in the lobby waiting for me. He took me to a nice Chinese restaurant and we had a really good meal. When the bill came I pulled out my wallet but Jason said, "Devon, this is on me. I want to do this for you. You have just been thru a really bad experience." As we walked back to the dorm we continued to talk and nurture our relationship. When we got close to the dorm I turned to Jason, kissed him on the cheek and thanked him for diner. He smiled and told me, "You are quite welcome." When we arrived at Riley's and my room we saw that the door was slightly open. We walked in and I called out for Riley but got no answer. As I entered the common room I saw Jefferson napping on our couch. I chuckled and woke him up and asked, "Hey Jefferson, what's up?"

Chapter 3 - Devon's POV:

Jefferson woke up when I shook his shoulder. He looked up at Jason and me, smiled and said, "Riley asked me to come over because he had to go back home to get something. He told me to tell you that he would be back in the morning." I asked, "Well do you know what's up? Why did he need to leave like it was an emergency? Couldn't whatever he needed to get wait until we had planned to go back together?" Jefferson said, "Hey Devon, calm down. I do not know the answers to any of your questions. Riley just told me that he had talked with his mom after football practice and that he needed to make a quick trip back home to get something. That is all I know, other than he seemed kind of hyper and nervous." I wondered out loud, "Well why didn't he call and tell me?" Jefferson chuckled, "Well I can answer that question. Riley knew you going out with Jason and did not want you to back out on him just because of his situation. But now that you are back home safe and sound from your date I am going back to my room." Jason and I laughed at his comment on "my date". We said our good nights and Jefferson went off to his room.

Jason agreed to stay and watch a movie with me. At some point we fell asleep leaning on each other. I stirred and moved when Jason shifted. We both woke up and chuckled. It was 3 am and I was hungry, so I asked Jason if he wanted to go get some breakfast. We got to the diner at about 3:45 am. We both ordered coffee. I had pancakes and bacon. Jason enjoyed an omelet. While we were enjoying our second meal together Jason's phone chirped to let him know he just received a text message. As soon as he read it he excused himself to make a phone call. About 10 or so minutes later he was back and looked a little upset so I asked, "Is everything okay?" He asked if we could head back to the dorm right then. I quickly paid the bill over his objection.

While we were walking back he stopped and looked at me with tears in his eyes and said he was sorry. I asked why and Jason told me that the text was from his ex-boyfriend and that he had not been fully honest with me earlier. I put my arm over his shoulders to reassure him and said, "Jason, there is nothing for you to apologize for. We can stop right now and sit on this bench and talk about it if you want to." He immediately replied, "Yes, please." So we sat down on that bench in the early hours of that morning and Jason opened up to me big time. "I met David, my ex-boyfriend, during my sophomore year in high school. David was a senior. He was my first boyfriend. He is the one who took my cherry. Our relationship was going great until the fall when David left for college. Our relationship became strained because it was now a long distance romance. David accused me of cheating on him and sleeping around behind his back. But Devon, that was not true at all. I just assumed he was experiencing some stress from his classes at school and being so far away made him unhappy and unsure about our relationship. When David came home for thanksgiving we got together. He said he was sorry and was very apologetic about his accusations. I accepted his apology. And then we started to make out. David wanted to have sex. But I told him that I was just not in the mood for sex right then. He became violent and hit me, knocking me down to the ground. Then he started to kick me. When he saw that I was dazed and off balance he pulled my jeans and boxers off and got down on top of me and proceeded to rape me. After he was finished with me he just got up and left, leaving me laying on the ground crying and badly hurt."

I continued to hug Jason from the side as he continued, "I made my way back home and tried to enter the house without waking anyone up but I failed. My older brother was sleeping on the couch and woke up when I opened the door. As soon as my brother saw me in my battered condition he yelled for our parents. I reluctantly told them what happened. They insisted I go to the hospital and the police. The long story short, David was arrested and his attorney encouraged him to take a plea deal. He was put on probation and at one point in time had a court order that restricted him from having any contact with me at all. He was assigned to a probation officer where he is going to college. Now that he is free and clear of probation he is making attempts to contact me. I do not know whether he wants forgiveness or revenge. But right now he has me scared even though he is on the other side of the country. I am afraid of him and what he would do if we were to meet." Jason turned to face me and I was able to look straight into his eyes. I told him, "Jason, I will always have your back and I will always be there for you at any time no matter what." We seemed to be finished talking so we got up from the bench and continued trucking back to the dorm. But before we left that bench Jason and I hugged each other for several minutes.

For the first time in a long time I felt a warmth wash over me. It was a feeling I missed. It scared me too. I thought to myself "Am I ready?", "Am I betraying Kurt?" It was obvious to me that I needed to talk to Riley as soon as possible. As Jason was about to get off on the elevator onto his floor I leaned over, kissed him on the cheek and thanked him for being so very open with me and telling me the whole story. I again reassured him that I had his back whenever needed. He smiled, blushed and said thanks and good night. He was off to his room and I was on my way up to my floor and room.

As soon as I entered I saw Riley sleeping on the couch. I pulled out a blanket and covered him up and went to my room. Just as I climbed into bed Riley knocked on my door and asked if he could come in. I said, "Do you know how to turn the door knob and push the door open?" When he came in I saw a big grin on his face. I immediately said, "Get your mind out of the gutter. Nothing sexual happened between Jason and me. I do confess that I am developing strong feelings for Jason but I have a battle going on in my heart and mind right now about all this." Riley sat down on the bed next to me. I asked, "What happened? Why did you go back home without saying anything to me?" He looked straight into my eyes and softly told me, "When I called my mom to touch base with her she suggested that I make a special trip home to get something for you. After she told me what it was I said absolutely. I told her that I would be there is just a little over 3 hours." I said, "Okay, what did you go to get that could not wait until we planned to go home for the holidays at the end of the semester?" Riley's response was heart wrenching. "Oh, I suppose that you would have lived without it for a few more weeks. However, I felt that you should have it as soon as possible because it will help you move on with your life. I want you to come see me after you finish reading this." He then handed me a letter in a sealed envelope with my name on it. It was in Kurt's hand writing. With that he started to leave my room but before Riley closed the door he looked back at me and said, "Devon, you are my best friend. I will always be here for you." He closed the door leaving me with a letter that I was somewhat scared to open. I didn't know if I wanted to read it or not so I sat there staring at it for a good hour or two before I was able to work up the courage to read it. I opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. I noticed that it had been written just a few days before the school shooting. Kurt's letter was not long but it went straight to the point.

"My dearest, Devon, if you received this letter from Riley then I am so sorry. I know you loved me with all your heart and soul. My death probably ripped your heart right out of you. I will always be a part of your life even though I am no longer around. Your mourning for me should only last for a short while. Do not grieve over us not being able to be together or even what could have been. Please do not let my death stop you from living and finding love again. You have a very big heart. I know it is hurting now but you must move on and live. I know you too well. You will feel guilty about loving someone else. Please stop that way of thinking! I want you to find someone else to love as you did me. Someone who will give you the same level of love in return. Yes, it will be difficult for you. But you can't let you heart grow cold and your loving soul become a dark shadow. Let your love shine through the darkness that my death has caused you. I fully release you to move on. I know my parents who took you in as their own son, would also want you to live and bring your mourning for me to an end. So please, do as I ask. Go LIVE and LOVE!"

After I cried my eyes out I went to find Riley and asked, "Why did you hold onto this for so long?" He gave me the most honest of answers. "Devon, I am so sorry. I simply forgot where I put it. After football practice yesterday I decided call my mom just to touch base with her. She told me that she found it while cleaning around the house. So I went home to get it for you." Even as I was still sobbing I grabbed a hold of Riley and hugged him tightly. While I still had him in my grip I said, "Riley, thank you so much for going on a 6 hours trip just to get my letter. That means so very much to me." As my head rested on his shoulder I looked up at the clock. It was only 9 am. I released Riley from my hug and said, "I need to take a shower right now!" I quickly grabbed a towel and headed toward the showers. I did not give Riley much of a chance to say anything more.

As soon as I got back to our room after my shower I quickly got dressed and started to head out the door when Riley stopped me to ask, "Where are you going in such a big ass hurry?" I told him to start to live again and with that I was out the door. I went to Jason's room. I knocked and waited. I knocked again and waited. Then Jason opened the door, looked at me and asked, "What's wrong?" Without a word I lip locked his face. His eyes damn near popped out of his head. When I finished I looked into his eyes and asked, "What did you think of that?" He started to stutter so I went in for a 2nd round. This time he said, "Wow!" That was not his only reaction. Since I was pressed up against him I was able to notice that his cock was hard as a rock. I will say it felt big! He blushed and asked, "What the hell was that for?" I quickly responded, "Jason, may I come in. We need to talk." He laughed, grabbed a hold of me on my upper arm, pulled me inside his door and slammed it shut.

End of Chapter 3. Chapter 4 is a work in progress. Be on the lookout for it. It sounds as though things are starting to get hot and erotic in Chapter 4. But I do not know that for a fact. Frank left me hanging again just like he did all of you. I will find out when I start to proofread Chapter 4. He has not sent it to me yet. All of you will find out as soon as Chapter 4 is posted to Nifty in the near future. - Samual Blake
