A Voice from The Past Chapter 12

It has now been eleven months since the day Jimmy last went to see his father. Andy couldn't even get him to go to the trial. Daniel did as promised; he confessed to everything that happened on the night in question, telling the whole story, just like he had told Andy and Jimmy at their meeting eleven months ago. Travis would visit him, as much as possible, even after Daniel told him he was free to love someone else. The whole world now knew that Daniel and Travis are gay. Daniel received a very stiff sentence from the judge; he would be in jail for a very long time. The adoption of Jimmy was final, so the healing process has begun.

Jimmy finally had the family that he wanted. He began calling Andy and Melinda mom' and dad' about two weeks ago. Now they have their little family; Andy, Melinda, Jimmy, Steven and baby daughter, Rebecca. Andy received a phone call at work that Daniel wanted him to see if Jimmy would come see him one more time. Andy stood at the door of Jimmy's room, tapping on the door, causing Jimmy to look up.

"Hey, Dad, what's up?" Jimmy asked.

"You have a minute? I would like to talk to you," Andy said.

"Sure, but I'm waiting on Uncle Tony and Uncle Jason. I'm spending the afternoon with them," Jimmy said.

"Oh, what are you doing this afternoon?" Andy asked.

"I'm going over to their place, and we are just going to play games or watch movies. I wanted to talk with them about something," Jimmy said.

"Really? Can I know what's going on?" Andy asked.

"Nothing is really going on, dad. I just wanted to talk to them about this guy in my class. I think he likes me, but I don't know for sure; so I wanted to talk with them about it. You aren't mad are you?" Jimmy said.

"No, Jimmy, I'm glad you are spending time with Tony and Jason. I wasted four years being mad at your Uncle Tony; more than that really, but the way I acted, when I found out that he had a boyfriend, was not good. When the truth about some things came out, your Uncle embraced me with his love, and we have finally become brothers again," Andy said, with tears in his eyes.

"Dad, you never told me about what happened to you. I would really like to know one day. So, what did you want to talk about?" Jimmy said.

Andy got a warm feeling in his heart when Jimmy called him `dad'. "I promise I'll tell you the story one day when you are a little older. I need to talk to you about something else right now, however. I had a call at work today; your father wants to see you," Andy said.

"No! I still don't want to see him. What does he want?" Jimmy said.

"Jimmy, he is going to be in jail for a long time. You will also be in this family from now on. He can't take you from us, and he will not be able to hurt you," Andy said.

"Dad, do I really have to see him? Even if he didn't want to kill Jeremy, it still happened. If Jeremy hadn't come home early, Dad still would have killed someone. All he had to do was talk to us, and this would not have happened. As much as I miss Jeremy, I am glad to have my new family. I love all of you so much," Jimmy said, getting emotional.

"Okay, Jimmy, we will drop it for now. I told you I would not make you go see him if you didn't want to," Andy said, giving Jimmy a hug.

"Thank you, Dad; I love you. I'm going to go see Rebecca before Uncle Tony gets here," Jimmy said.

"I'll let you know when he gets here," Andy said.

Jimmy went into Rebecca's room to spend some time with her. He really loves that little girl, and, at the same time, he still sets aside his time with Steven. He still thinks that one day he will wake up, and it would all have been a dream. Sitting in the rocking chair, rocky Rebecca, is the time he gets to talk freely about `things,' knowing Rebecca won't tell anyone.

"You know, Becky, I just don't want to see my father again. I hope Dad can understand that. If seeing him again would bring Jeremy back, I would be there in a minute. You know I love you and Steven so much. I would do anything for you, and would not let anyone hurt either of you. Only, if I could have just one more day with Jeremy again," Jimmy said, breaking down, and tightly holding onto Rebecca.

Andy had come to tell Jimmy that Tony was there, and stopped at the door, listening to Jimmy talk to Rebecca. He didn't mean to eavesdrop, but listening to Jimmy, he knew he could not ask him to go see his father again. He would wait until Jimmy came and asked to see his father, if that day ever came.

"Jimmy, your Uncles are here," Andy said, lightly tapping on the door.

"Thanks, Dad," Jimmy said, laying Rebecca in her crib, then wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Jimmy, is everything going to be okay?" Andy asked, putting a hand on his shoulder.

"Yes, Dad, I think, for the first time, it will be," Jimmy said, pulling his Dad into a hug, kissing him on his cheek.

"You have fun with your Uncles. You need some money?" Andy said.

"No, Dad, I'm good." Jimmy yelled, running down the stairs.

Tony and Jason were waiting in the living room, talking with Mindy. When Jimmy came into the living room, he saw Tony and Jason sitting on the couch, holding hands. Tony noticed him at the door.

"Hey, Jimmy, you ready to go?" Tony asked.

"I sure am. I'll see you later, Mom," Jimmy said, and gave her a hug and kiss.

"Okay, Honey, you behave yourself," Mindy said, smiling at Jimmy, who seemed to really fit into this family.

Okay, Jimmy, why don't you go into the living room and start looking through the movies to decide what you want to watch. I'm going to order some pizza, and Jason and I want to hear all about this boy, Ben," Tony said.

"Thanks, Uncle Tony. I can't wait to tell you all about Ben," Jimmy said.

Jimmy was sitting on the floor at the coffee table, while Tony and Jason were snuggled on the couch, finishing their pizza and the movie.

"Uncle Tony, will you call Dad and see if I can stay the night?" Jimmy asked.

You know it's fine with us for you to stay the night, but what's going on? You should have asked him before we left, so you could have brought some stuff

with you," Tony said, giving Jason a questioning look as to what was going on.

"Nothing is going on; I just thought I could stay and we could talk," Jimmy said, hoping they believed him.

"Okay, Jimmy, I'll go call him now," Tony said, leaning in and kissing Jason on the lips, then whispering, `talk to him; I'm going to the kitchen to call Andy.'"

"Okay, buddy, what's this all about?" Jason asked.

"Nothing; honest, Uncle Jason," Jimmy said, trying to hide a smile.

"James Franklin Cooper, you are up to something, and if you don't come out with it, we will take you home now," Jason said.

"Alright, I'll tell you when Uncle Tony gets back from talking to Dad," Jimmy said.

It's okay for you to stay, but we will need to run you home and get you some stuff. We probably need to get some stuff to keep here, in case this happens again," Tony said.

"Thank you, thank you, Uncle Tony," Jimmy said, jumping up and hugging Tony, then Jason.

"Okay, Jimmy, now tell us what is going on," Jason said.

There is this guy in my class, Ben. I think he likes me, and I want to talk to him about it. I------I want to know how to have sex with another guy," Jimmy said.

"WHAT!!" Jason and Tony said at the same time. "You can't be serious; you are only fifteen!" Jason said, looking at Tony.

"Jimmy, you can stay, but we are not going to give you information on how to have sex. Your Dad would kill me," Tony said.

"Uncle Tony, I'm going to have sex; I would just like to know how," Jimmy said.

"Well, that is good to know, but we are not having this conversation now; maybe when you are ready, then we will talk about it; and when we do, your

Dad will be there, also; understood?" Tony said.

"Yes, sir," Jimmy said, still holding his laughter.

"You think this is funny, don't you?" Tony said, lightly slapping him on the back of the head.

It has now been over a year since that day that Jimmy had spent the night with Tony and Jason. Everything for the Cooper family had changed for the better. Jimmy had his sixteenth birthday. The whole family, and his boyfriend, Ben, were helping him celebrate. Andy was still a bit skeptical about this relationship with Ben, but he and Jimmy had agreed to take it one day at a time, and promised to talk about any and everything concerning what was happening between Jimmy and Ben. They would not let anything fester and boil until serious problems arose. Jimmy had told his Dad that he and Ben had done a lot of kissing and petting, but he wasn't yet ready to have sex with Ben. Ben agreed, because he was not ready, as well. They were both excited, and were waiting for that time to come.

After the birthday party, Tony and Jason were lying in bed, and had just finished making love. Jason sat up in bed, and reached across Tony to the drawer in the table beside the bed. Tony sat up, as well, looking at him, wondering what Jason was doing, as Jason took his hand in his.

"Tony, I have loved you for a long time. We have been through a lot since the first day we met. I almost lost you when you had your car accident. Not only did I get you back, but we got the love of Andy. So, tonight, I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me. I'm asking you, Anthony James Cooper, will you be my husband and marry me?" Jason said, with tears in his eyes.
