CHAPTER 8

Another week rolled past with Christy plotting her selfish revenge, and Max and Evan blissfully unaware of the oncoming storm. Friday rolled around and the school had never been quieter, everyone studying before the upcoming finals week. School let out and everyone pretty much went home, no one wanted to be the person that stuck around and goofed off. Evan and Max went to Max's house as usually and Linda got used to seeing him more often than not. They went up to Max's immaculately clean bedroom and cracked open their books. Saturday was almost the same thing, Evan went over to study at Max's house at about 2 in the afternoon and they began the rigid and boring task of studying. Nothing was said and the only sounds that could be heard was Max's soft stereo music and whatever his mother was watching downstairs. After about an two hours neither of them could take it anymore, but no one said a word. About 15 minutes passed before either of them broke the silence.

"Babe, I am really proud of you but I can't study anymore!" Max said getting up and shaking the sleep out of his legs.

"Thank God neither could I, I was about to say something but you beat me to the punch." Evan said making room on the bed so that Max could crawl in next to him. A familiar humming began in the room mystifying both of the boys until Evan realized that it was his phone. He took it out of his pocket, read the caller ID and mouthed the word "Mom" to Max.

"Hey mom," He said answering the phone call.

"Hey I forgot to ask you before you left this morning, would you mind babysitting Dylain tonight? Your father and I have a Church Benefit Dinner to go to." She asked politely over the phone.

"No it's fine. I was just planning on hanging out tonight anyway. Can Max come over too?" Evan asked, although she couldn't see it his face was one that he hadn't used to get his way in quite some time.

"I don't have a problem with that, just remember the rules. You like to show off." She said relieved that she didn't hire a sitter. "Can you be home by 5:00?"

He sighed. "Yea. Sure." He ended the phone call and turned to Max who was just kind of staring off into space. "So, got any plans tonight?"

"No. Why?" Max said dazedly.

"Well my mom and dad need someone to baby sit my little brother and I am stuck doing the job." Evan said feigning dislike of the task.

"Aww, I'm sorry baby." Max said with genuine sympathy.

Evan let out a small laugh. "I'm only kidding, I love Dylain, he's an amazing little guy. So I enjoy taking care of him, I wouldn't let anyone else do it and I want you to meet him."

"Of course! But what about your parents?" Max said a smile quickly dissipating from his face.

"It's okay, I cleared it with them, I can have one guest." Evan said, he checked his phone just for the sake of knowing what time it was. "We should head out soon. My parents wanted to leave by 5." Max simply nodded his head, the spent about 15 minutes just cuddling and talking until it was time to go. They bounded down the stair with Max leading the way.

"Hey Mom," Max called waiting for an answer as to give her location away.

"I'm in the kitchen getting started on dinner." She called back. Max turned into the direction of the moderately sized modern chic-kitchen.

"Is it alright if I help Evan babysit his little brother?" Max said pulling on his best pouty face.

"Okay fine. Just let me know if you sleep over there." Linda said with a sort of subtext, which Max caught instantly and turned ten shades of red. The boys grabbed their jackets and headed out the door. Linda chuckled softly to herself.

About ten minutes later Evan and Max pulled into the open spot next to his parent's SUV and headed into the house. Mr. Lonzo was at the mirror next to the door adjusting his tie.

"Hey Dad," Evan said waving Max inside. 'This is Max. Max, this is my dad."

"Hey Evan." Mr. Lonzo looked towards Max and stretched out his hand. "Nice to meet you son, George Lonzo, excuse me for a second." He turned in the direction of the stairs and called out. "Janet, Evan's here we need to go." He turned back to the boys "She always takes forever, so Max are you helping Evan here?"

"Yes sir." Max responded. Mrs. Lonzo came rushing down the stairs putting on a pair of earrings.

"Hello boys." She said walking past them to the hall closet. She grabbed her clutch purse and a jacket and shut the door promptly. "Okay Evan you know the rules, but just to reiterate, bed time for Dylain is 8:30 at the latest 9, no sugar before his bed time and no scary movies. There's money on the coffee table for pizza and if you need us your father and I will both have our phones on. We may be back late but we will let you know." The couple made their out of the door as the boys walked into the living room to find Dylain watching some cartoons.

"Hi Dyl! Whatchya watching?" Evan said excitedly. Max just hung back and watched the reunion.

"Evvie!" Dylan said running at full speed to wrap his arms around the boy.

"Hey Dyl, I want you to meet someone." He waved Max closer. Max simply put on a smile and so did Dylain. "Dylain this is my friend Max."

"Nice too meet you Dylain." Max said extending a hand instead Dylain went straight in for a hug.

"Hi. Do you like cartoons?" Dylain asked enthusiastically, without waiting for an answer Dylain took Max by the hand and dragged him to the couch. The pair was soon joined by Evan who went off into the kitchen to grab a few sodas for himself and Max and some apple juice for Dylain. Dylain sat quiet and content watching T.V. between the two boys who exchanged looks behind his back. They sat in silence for an hour until Dylain began to become restless.

"What's wrong buddy?" Evan asked trying to keep the little boy still.

"Evvie, I'm hungry." Evan checked his watch and it read 6:30. "Yea it is about time we get some grub huh? You want pizza?" Dylain nodded excitedly. "Okay, you just sit here and watch some more TV with Maxie while I order the pizza and then we can order a movie okay?" Again all Dylain could do was nod. He stood up and walked into the kitchen, after he was out of sight Dylain curled up into Max as if it was his own brother. After about 15 minutes Evan walked in and saw the pair and couldn't help but smile. He walked over and sat next to a completely oblivious Dylain.

About a half hour later the doorbell rang. Max looked down at Dylain who was by this time slipping into the cusps of dreamland. As Evan got up to answer the door, Max was tasked with waking up the sleeping child. Max decided against the traditional waking up and tickled the boy. Dylain sprung up in a fit of laugher and childish squealing that made Max smile widely. The front door slammed shut and Evan called the boys from the dining room.

"Dinner is served." Evan slipped in to kitchen and grabbed some paper plates and drinks for their dinner. He had just finished setting thing on the table when Max ran in laughing with an hyped Dylain on his back.

"Uh oh Captain Dylain it seems we have encountered a delicious cheesy monster. What do we do?" Max said pointing to the box of cheese pizza sitting on the table.

"Umm, we, we ead it!" Dylain said giggling.

"What how sir?" Maxie said playing along, in all honestly he hasn't felt like a kid in so long.

"Like this, down please Maxie" Dylain said in his best official voice, Max set him down and he sat down and took a bite out of the pizza and grinned and Evan began to laugh, he was going to pay for it later

"I would have never thought of that sir! Shall we try it first officer Evvie?" Max said looking at Evan.

"Well sir I would have to agree." They burst out into a fit of laughter after they devoured the pizza. After 3/4 of the box was devoured they went into the living room and crashed on the couch again. "Alright buddy what movie do you wanna watch?" Evan asked scrolling through the Kids Picks option.

"Can we watch Nide at the Musam?" Dylain said in his adorable imperfect word pronunciation.

"Of course buddy." Evan replied. He order the movie and the three boys cuddled together with Evan and Max being very careful of how they cuddled together to keep any affection of more than friends out of the picture. The movie began and Dylain laughed every now and then at the Ben Stiller hilarity about halfway through not even Ben Stiller's antics could keep the boy awake. They heard a light snoring between them and realized Dylain was definitely down for the count. Evan got up gently and mouthed to Max he'd be right back. He picked up the small boy and brought him upstairs. A few months he came downstairs.

"He's getting heavier, I am getting too old for this." Evan chuckled to himself. He stood and stretched before he spoke. "I am really craving some ice cream. Want some?" Max got up and walked over to his boyfriend. 'How does this happen? I move here and then a knight in shining armor comes to my aid. Now he's my boyfriend. This is too good to be true.' He rubbed Evan's firm chest lightly.

"Yes." He said seductively with a wink. Evan had to readjust as the words sent electricity through his body. "You are too easy." Evan sighed and smiled wrapping his arm around the smaller boy. Even grabbed to small bowls while Max went to the freezer and grabbed the ice cream. Evan spooned out shares and left the ice cream on the counter.

"You wanna hear something funny?" Evan asked after taking a spoonful of ice cream.

"What's that?" Max asked curiously.

"I have never seen Dylain take to someone so easily." He said in between bites of ice cream. "It took him 3 weeks to warm up to Christy and even then he was nowhere near as comfortable with her as he was within five minutes of knowing you." Max laughed after another few spoonfuls.

"He's a really great kid." Max said looking into Evan's eyes. They sat in comfortable silence and finished their ice cream. Evan grabbed both bowls and put them in the sink and then turned to Max.

"So have you thought about kids?" Evan said unexpectedly.

"Well, yea. I'm just waiting for the right guy. That and I have time. I want a career before I even think about kids." Max said stepping into Evan and giving him a peck on the lips. Slyly Evan reached behind him and grabbed the faucet sprayer and sprayed Max in the chest with cold water. Max stood back absolutely mortified while Evan laughed.

"You are so going to regret that!" Max said reaching for Evan. Evan dodged his grasp and bolted out of the kitchen; both of the boys laughed and tried to keep their voice down at no avail. Evan dashed up the stairs with Max hot on his heels to the back of the house where his room was. Evan burst through the door and crashed on his bed followed by Max who landed on top of him. The boys began to horseplay until their noses touched and ignited passion between them; they ended the thrashing as their lips came together. Their kiss became more intense with every passing second. Within moments Max's hands found the bottom of Evan's shirt and pulled it up his torso only breaking the kiss momentarily to remove it completely, then the same was done for Max.

"Wait, wait." Evan said breaking the kiss. They took a moment to breathe until another word was said. Evan looked into Max's eyes. Max's expression was that of concern. "It's not you I promise. I'm just not ready for this yet. I really believe that sex is a really powerful thing and that it requires more than just a physical attraction. I want it to really mean something." Evan said breaking his glance. Max reached out his hand and lifted Evan's chin to line their eyes up once more.

"Evan, don't worry. Take as much time as you need I will wait for you." Max said ending his statement with a kiss. The kiss didn't take long to reach the fiery intensity it once held. Evan rolled over putting Max below him and continued to kiss him, Max's hands roamed freely across the boy, his fingertips freely tracing the contours of his back. Evan began kissing and biting on Max's neck putting his body into a sheer state of bliss. Evan couldn't help himself and began grinding into his boyfriend, the quadruple layer of clothes driving them crazy both of them desperately holding onto control before they did something that they would regret. In between kisses they would gaze lovingly into each other's eyes as if the dark room was shining with light. Max groaned out in ecstasy, Evan suddenly stopped and became alert. "What is it?" Max asked quietly, the unmistakable sound of slamming car doors was all the confirmation Evan needed for his answer.

"My parents." Evan said springing out of the bed, he practically ran over to the light and flipped it on. Both boys frantically searched for their shirts after a few agonizing minutes they found them and then came rushing down the stairs.

"Hey boys," Janet said happily, George closed the door behind him. "I hope Dylain wasn't too much of a handful."

"Not at all Mrs. Lonzo." Max said returning a smile.

"Yea, he wasn't a problem Mom. We ordered pizza, watched a movie and he pretty much passed out. " Evan said grabbing his keys from the hall table. "I'm gonna take Max home now." He gave his mother a kiss and she hugged them both.

"Night boys, Evan drive carefully and no midnight shenanigans. You ARE going to church in the morning." Evan nodded and led the way to his car.

"Your dad is pretty serious about this church thing huh?" Max said as they pulled out of the driveway.

"Yea, but it's a small price to pay." Evan said adding a little bit of mystery to his words.

"Huh? For what?" Max asked.

"Well if I didn't go to church I'd get grounded and if I got grounded I couldn't be with you and that I just can't let happen." Evan said putting a hand on Max. Max took his hand and squeezed it tightly. "I-I-love you like a love song baby." He said stroking his hand.

"You could be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare either way I don't wanna wake up from you." Max said softly. Evan just broke into a fit of laugher. "What?" Max said waiting on a response from Evan. "If you can quote Selena Gomez, then I can quote Beyonc ."

"Or can you?" Evan said seriously with his eyes on the road. They sat in quiet for a little while longer and then Evan laughed again. It took a while to realize what Evan was laughing about but then Max playfully hit him in the arm. "Hey, hey, no hitting the driver." Max did it again.

"Or can I?" Max said cutely. A few moments later they pulled into Max's driveway. Evan turned the car off and walked Max up to his door.

"Well Mr. Chase. Here you are, I hope you had a fun night watching a well behaved nine year old. "

"Of course I did Mr. Lonzo and I'd do it all over again with you." Max said playing along. Their eyes met and they connected.

"Please call me Evan. I don't normally do this but can I kiss you?" Evan asked mocking shyness.

"Do you always ask to kiss your date?" Max asked playing hard to get.

"No." Evan replied simply.

"So why start now?" Max said setting the trap and as expected Evan took it. Evan kissed him long and deep and it ended after a few seconds, which to them felt like hours. "I would very much like to see you again Evan."

"As would I Mr...."

"Please, call me Max" He said hiding a huge grin.

"Yes well. As would I Max." They went in for another kiss this one much quicker. Max waited until Evan had pulled out of his driveway and had driven away before he went inside. He quietly tip toed up to his bedroom so not to wake his mom. He undressed himself and a quick shower before crawling into bed. He checked his phone one last time and read a text Evan sent him .

'You know how cheesy that was right?' The message read.

Max responded back 'LOL. But most of the cheese was you. We really do need to have date night soon.'

A minute or so passed and then a familiar beep notified him of a received text message. 'Haha. We will soon I promise. I gotta go to bed now or face the reprecussions of King George. Night babe' Max was quick to suppress a loud laugh he quickly shot back another text: 'I literally almost LOL'ed. Night Love.'

Within moments of sending off the text and Evan receiving the text both boys drifted off into a peaceful sleep. Dreaming of nothing but each other.
