Hours ago, after going back to his office, Johan Wasylyk had botched up relations. Months ago, before splitting with Alek's mother, over things he tried to keep hidden, bisexuality, leaning towards gay. It was her idea, how his behavior all of their childrens' lives, spawned not love and looking up to him, but rather had them turn against him with hateful eyes.
For Johan, he thought it too late for the other boys, whom had chosen to alienate themselves, one going off with his mother to France. Alek was the only one whom, for now, remained in his immediate life and now, tapping fingers on his desk, was so set against him.
Even the brief chat they had, after leaving Hart's office, it made him feel like a heel. One thing realized, he hadn't an idea on how to be a real father, having spent a fatherly lifetime thinking of himself, what drove him on sexually, with an obsession.
It finally came to him, maybe he's lost Alek, like the rest of his brothers and maybe the only way to salvage things...he got on the phone with his attorney...whom most likely thought Johan a crackpot, losing it, when 2 hours ago he took a phone call, kicking Alek out of his will, canceling access to all assets, and the credit card in his wallet, only to have all that reversed!
Regardless, one thing which struck Alek, walking out of the office building, Deric at his side, gripes, "I just wonder if I made the right decision?"
"Which one? The one about still being angry at your old man, or telling him to go to hell?" Deric leaves little option for Alek.
"I didn't tell him to go to hell."
"Oh."
"I told him I needed my space to think."
"Don't we all," Deric reflects back on his father hiring a detective, catching up with him, Deric dealing with the man, whom happened to have quite a tight ass, then having the detective take the message back to his father, that he couldn't find him.
"I don't think he's bad, just misinformed, like he doesn't know how to handle certain situations," Alek cuts his father slack.
"Sounds like someone I know," Deric means his father, pulling something out of his backpack to look at, take up the slack of hiking back to Cavallo Point.
"What's that?" Alek asks.
"This?" Deric holds the crystal up to the sun, seeing the rays part in many directions.
"Looks like a fish."
"Is. It's Hart's. I told him if he wanted it back, he'd have to come get it!"
It made Alek smile, thinking of ulterior motives behind Deric's reasoning!

Back at the hotel, much as Adam had wanted to get with the hotel clerk, whom he learns goes by the name, Brick', built like a brick house, he has John to look after. Even after Brick enticed him, said to bring Little Johnny' along, Adam denied the cunning invitation.
The whole time, Brick went about his business, Adam listening to John fire questions off about an apparent subject John had little knowledge about.
So, after sitting in the lobby, choosing his answers subtly, not wanting to scare John off, Adam is relieved to see Deric and Alek walk in, "Oh look, they're back!"
It was apparent, the strong bond between Deric and John, running over, "You're back! I missed you so much, Deric," John threw his arms around his traveling companion.
"Yeah, yeah," Deric mellowed out his tough nature, "wanna cut it with the mushy stuff?" Then, to pry John off, "Here, I brought you something."
Alek watches, Deric giving the crystal fish away.
"Wow! Where did you get it?"
Alek covers for Deric, "He picked it up at the office."
"Hey, Adam," Alek says, the three approaching the desk, where Adam was chatting with the clerk.
"Hey guys, this is Brick."
"Brick?" Deric says, thinking what a weird name. Though, "Hmm, you look like a brick!"
"Thanks," Brick shows he's on the same page, feeling up his crotch, which they cannot see, "built like one too!"
With no knowledge of what has transpired, Alek's credit being restored, John brings up, "Hey, guess what?"
"What?" Alek answers.
Deric, his attention was on `the brick!'
"Down the road is a gay campground. Brick says it's hardly even half the price of what you have to pay here! Why don't we go camping?!"
"Yeah," Deric stares at Brick, "roasting weenies over an open fire!"
Alek, looking for boyhood, instead of jumping ahead to manhood, as Deric was, sides with John, "I don't remember ever going camping."
"Except," John says, "we haven't got a tent."
Short term memory kicks in, Alek thinking about tents', reverts back to the matter at hand, "Who needs em?" he takes John under the crook of his arm, "We can just fall asleep looking up at the stars!"
With dreams and visions on his mind, Alek forgets, turns back to the desk, "You guys going camping with us?"
With a hold on Adam, literally, hand on his shoulder, Deric says, "You guys go ahead. We'll find out way there later."
Brick adds, "Much later."
"Yeah," Adam agrees, "like, don't leave the light on!"

Striking out on their own, Alek for one looked at this as a new beginning. He had come to terms over his father, thinking of him as being plain `stupid', but maybe not much dissimilar than a dude who finally makes up his mind he's gay and not straight. Everyone has their revelations. For some it comes sooner, others, much later in life. One of the important things, which he thought about, much like he was once under Mark's wing, his credit card worked!
Stopping, almost pulling Alek's arm out of the socket, John says, "Brick says the campground is down the hill!"
"I know, but it would be no fun camping without camping equipment, would it, Johnny?"
John smiles, thinking of his name `before' he met Deric, hearing it come from Alek, such a sweet rendering, "But your card? It doesn't work, remember?"
"It does now," Alek smiles.
Walking up the hill, towards his father's office tower, Alek spots a yellow cab, "Hold it a second, Johnny!"
There again, that friendly calling, it just melts Johnny's heart, watching Alek run out into the street, hail the cab. Then, he's motioning for Johnny to `come.'
"Where to?" the cab driver calls out, holding Alek's credit card, tapping it on the wheel, like for a piece of plastic he has carte blanche to go anywhere!
"Know of a Jeep dealer close by?"
Johnny questions, "Jeep?"
"Yeah," Alek falls back against the seat, relaxes, with an arm over Johnny's shoulder, "we need some wheels to get around, don't we?"
"I suppose," Johnny is more interested in feeling the warmth of Alek next to him, much like Deric was on some of those cold, cold nights under an overpass.
Ten minutes later, Alex, busy chatting up the cab driver, hearing about his whole life, failed at getting a degree, having to drop out of college, only to drive a cab to make a living, didn't notice, Johnny falling asleep on his shoulder.
At the ten minute mark, Johnny wakes up just in time to see the sign, reading it in a slow drawl, "Cor-tay Maa-dee-ra?"
"Close enough," the cab driver chuckles.
Next, from sleepy, to excited, Johnny's saying, "Cool, we're here, Alek," seeing the next sign, labeled with `Jeep'!
Arriving right into the dealer parking lot, the driver asks, "Will I be waiting for you?" he doubted it.
"Why don't you park and come in with us?" Alek replies.
"Uh, but I have to leave the meter running?"
"Let it run," Alek replies.
Johnny hopping out with Alek, the driver says, "You're the boss. I'll find parking."
Alek figured the driver was in the vicinity of 30-year old, give or take a mile or on either side of the speed limit of life and out, as much as anyone, to make an easy buck. Now that he had a working credit card, with a bottomless pit of a credit limit, `fuck the running cab meter!'
Stopping at the double doors to the dealership, Johnny asks, "What are we waiting for?"
"Slim," Alek sees question on Johnny's face, "our cab driver."
Watching him walk to them, Slim loosening the fake bowtie, Johnny remarks, "He sure is!"
It was one of the facets of their conversation, driving up from the Sausalito area, Alek learning, at one time, Slim' was known as Fatso'. He also learned, Slim's history not much different than his own, and a result of suddenly doing without for a long time, Slim saw how big a difference it was, being handed everything in life, to fending for oneself. As a result, being found out he was gay, it didn't go well with divinity school he attended, nor his family. Soon he found himself disconnected by means of substance and stance, not yielding to give up being gay. He was who he is and no one was going to change that!
Then, as Slim approaches, much like Alek, in Johnny's eyes a beautiful man, sees the same, "Hi Slim. I'm Johnny."
Slowly, after getting chummy with Johnny, Alek saw in himself somewhat of a figure of how Mark appeared to him, through his high school tutoring years. Rightfully, Alek thought Johnny sure needed a person like that!
"Good to meet you, Johnny," Slim wipes his hand off, extends it.
Looking at Slim's hand, Johnny asks, "Something wrong with your hand?"
"Not now...I was eating a protein bar a few minutes ago. Honey gets kinda sticky, y'know?"
"Protein bar? You workout?"
Whereas Alek carried on conversation in the car, now it was Johnny's turn!
A little disheveled from the wear and tear of the morning, Alek still looked decent enough to appear to the salesperson as someone fairly well to do, especially the jacket and tie, "What can I help you with today, sir?"
"A Jeep?" Alek says sarcastically, though meaning it in a joking manner.
Way ahead of him, the salesdude casts a thumb over to the yellow one, "Oh, you mean you're here for this jeep?"
All kidding aside, the kidder kidding the kidder, Alek says, "How did you know my eye was on the yellow one?"
Out to find out more about the buyer, the sales dude, introducing himself as, `Aronold', says, "Popular model, but one of the top of the line," he meant expen$ive, "but if you're looking for..."
"Show me what's so spectacular about it."
While Alek was led away, Slim remarks, "Oh cool! Free food!"
Johnny knew where that came from, being in the same place one time or another in the past few months, away from home, a few dimes in the pocket, picking through a dumpster for sustenance, "You lead, I'll follow!"
Grabbing Johnny by the arm, Slim takes flight, towards a counter boasting coffee, tea, snacks and, "Oh goody, they have popcorn!"
Slim agreed for the moment, but when he was surrounded by all the amenities of life, he would go for what was healthy. Anything with corn in it, wasn't. However, when you're on a budget and something is found free, "Yeah, great, but not too much Johnny, or you'll lose your nice figure!"
Hand in the covered bowl, Johnny looks to cab driver, "You checked me out?"
Slim laughs, saying, "Yeah. Still am, if that's okay?"
Right now, Alek and Slim both knew they were the same, in sexual respect, but hadn't a clue to Johnny, about to find out.
"Yeah, no problem. I was hoping I could get around to doing the same with you." Then, suddenly Johnny thought Slim might have gotten the wrong idea, that he was talking about sex, "I mean...about the checking you out!"
He was cute. Very cute and it wasn't that Johnny had a smile which would make everyone else do the same, but how he conducted himself, pure and innocent, which made Slim pull a joke, "Are you old enough?"
It struck a wrong note with Johnny. Instead of placing the popcorn on the napkin in hand, he hurled it at Slim, "Shut up! I'm old enough to be kicked out of the house and on my own, aren't I?"
Slim thought he saw Johnny's eyes well up with tears, "Hey, I didn't mean anything by it....just fooling around. Sorry, if I said anything which offended you," he set whatever he had in had, down and caressed the lad.
Since that first morning he left home, scared as hell and with only a few things in his backpack, Johnny felt a long, lonely journey ahead of him. The next day all that changed, when the owner of a restaurant found Johnny looking through the trash, something very reluctant to do, yet the tummy ruled. Nearby, was Deric, whom at the time was going by the name, `Frederic'. Frederic came to Johnny's aid, when the eatery owner came at him with a broom, ready to sweep the vermin from his premises. Good thing he was a younger man. Frederic grabbing the broom from him, sweeping the end up into the dude's balls, an older guy might not have recovered!
As it goes, Deric became the first person whom ever cared about Johnny, out in the lonely, dangerous world on his own.
From there, a few people stood out, like the woman who lived in a trailer, giving them dinner.
The gas station attendant allowing them to crash for night. Though, Deric sensed he would be back for payment' in the morning, the owner mentioning he always woke with hard wood', so they left before daybreak.
On their way out, they ran into a very nice Bible salesman on the road, whom gave them a lift. Unfortunately, when he found out they were gay, it coming up in conversation, they got kicked out of his car!
Regardless, after meeting Alek and Adam, Johnny started to feel comfortable with life again. Right now, more so, his head cowered in the middle of Slim's chest, "It's okay."
"Not really. I mean, not to offend, but rather than get all upset over what you think is right, and if you're righteous in your thinking, you should just come out and say it. From experience," they break a little and having noticed there were tears in Johnny's eyes, "leaving things all bottled up, doesn't do a person justice in the long run."
"Ok, but mind if I tell you something?"
"Sure. What? Anything," Slim says, the two, two feet apart.
"Not which I don't like it, but you smell kind of funky?"
Having picked up his plate, when Slim lifts his arm to take a whiff of his pit, everything on the plate goes flying on the floor, "Oh geez, Johnny," Slim realizes the grim truth.
At least it cheered Johnny up, laughing his ass off, like Slim really planned it!
Coming back to the two, Alek's first words are, "Do you like the yellow or the red? Me? I would go with the yellow, but thought I'd run it by you guys."
"Really?" Johnny says, "You're asking us?"
"Sure. Why not? Aren't you my friends?"
As if Johnny would ask, Slim says, "Am I, now?"
Pressing it, Alek jokes, "What, you're gonna drive away and not show Johnny and me all those muscles you boast about?"
"You're going to show us your muscles?" Johnny asks Slim, like salivating over water in a dry desert.
He does it again, Slim lifting an arm into a show-off L-position to pop a bicep, accidentally throwing a water bottle against the window. It happened to be borderline to an office.
When a burly man comes out, Slim, either scared-shit, or pretending to be, "Uh-oh, we're in trouble now!"
Johnny felt important, Slim taking him by the shoulders, using him for a battle-shield. Even though the aggressor, big, round, unknown to Johnny, hefty `cub' of a man, he would stand up, defend Slim to the best of his abilities, which wasn't much to brag about, Johnny being slimmer than Slim!
To save the day, cutting off the hefty sales-dude's hassle, about saving water, breaking glass, safety, etc., Aronold shows up, "Go eat a Twinkie, Fred and stop hassling my client," meant to give excuse, "who just bought a $75,000 Jeep, with everything in it?"
Well, it did it's purpose, softening the blow, `Fred' going back to his office to hit the Twinkie supply shed. Not too keen on the salesmanship, being the owner's nephew helped with keeping his job!
"You paid that much, Alek?" Johnny's eyes were looking ready to pop out of their sockets!
Aronold, not phased by it, "Keys will be in your hands in approximately an hour. Can I interest you guys in some supper?"
When they walked in, Aronold was in his professional get up, but as Slim observed, the jacket had come off and immediately he picked up on the lack of an undershirt, "Sure, but nothing which will ruin our worked up pecs, huh?"
First looking down upon himself, then Slim, "Oh really?" Aronold wasn't sure exactly how to respond.
Things progressing rather hastily, they all head out to dinner. Slim, thinking upon the events of this afternoon, thought, all it took was getting out from behind the wheel and there, almost on his doorstep was a hot guy, inclined to his own tastes!
