Amy -- part 3
Three weeks passed as they lived in the wilderness, and everyday they saw the light, they thought more and more about their lives.
"...Hey,Amy,wake up." Rachel said as the sun rose on the cliff. Amy, who was sleeping beside Rachel in the backseat of the car, looked outside the car window and yawned. "Yeah?" Amy mutterd in a sleepy voice. "Look... The sun's rising... isn't it great?" Rachel gasped as she opened the car door to get out. Amy squinted and sat up as she followed Rachel. "Yeah... it is." said Amy while she pulled back the top for the convertable. Amy sat on the trunk as she stared at Rachel... the rays of sunlight reflected on her golden brown hair, watching that 'angel' walk along the grass, by the calm creek, the sound of chirping birds in the morning...
"Amy...look at this." Rachel said as she sighed. "Look at what?" said Amy. "Look at us.... at this... we need to have some sense into doing what we did." Rachel said. "Into doing what?" said Amy. "This.. running away... I know life's tough at home and school... but we really need to... just... give it another chance." Rachel said. "...Do you want to go back?" said Amy. "...I think so." Rachel said. "...Ok,but when." said Amy as she hopped off the trunk. "...Now... let's go back, now." Rachel said. "Ok." said Amy as she hopped into the passengers seat. Rachel got in and started the car, pulled out of the small town, down to their neighborhood and pulled up to Rachel's house. Rachel drove the car into the garage and they got out, opened the garage door and stared at their mothers, who were sitting on the couch and crying.
"...Where on Earth were you???" the two mothers screamed while a police officer was sitting down by them. "We were.... we were.." Amy started. "...Camping!" Rachel interrupted. "Camping?" Amy's mother said with aconfused look. "..Yeah, Camping, we were, umm..." Amy said. "...Escaping from all of the...pressure!!" said Rachel. "Yeah!" Amy said. "Umm... ok... but why didn't you tell us?" said Amy's mom. "We were worried about you!!" she added. "I'm reall sorry, mom, I promise it won't happen again." Amy said as she hugged her mom tight. "Oh,and the investigation is over and we have our house back, plus the windows are fixed." Amy's mom said. "Great!" said Amy and hugged her mom again. "So we can go back?" Amy said. "Yeah." replied her mother. "Let's get back home, I'm tired." Amy said. "Ok." said her mom and they both said their byes and walked out the door, into the car and down the block.
"Mom... what if they did what they did like last time.... would we have to transfer?" Amy said as they were driving. "...We'll see." said Amy's mom. The car pulled up in their driveway and Amy stared at her house; she hadn't seen it in so long; she was glad to be home. She went to sleep and awoke in the morning, got ready for school and walked to school with Rachel, as she did on a normal basis.
As they walked down the halls of the school, they seemed to attract attention; the others staring at them as if they were new. Amy got her books from her locker and walked to her first period class and her second, third, and so on until lunch came around.
"Hey, Amy, wake up!" Rachel giggled as she caught Amy daydreaming in the cafeteria again. "Oh, yeah, sorry." she said. So, Amy, what are you gonna wear? Who you gonna go with?" some student said. "Wear what to where going with who?" Amy said confused and Rachel giggled again. "The Homecoming! Duh!" the student laughed. "Oh, haha, I'm not sure." Amy said. "I don't know if I'll even go." she added. Amy got up and walked out of the cafeteria doors. "Hey, Amy, wait up!" Rachel said as she ran after Amy. Amy looked back and started to run. Faster and faster she ran until Rachel was chasing her. Amy stopped on the other side of the wall and leaned against it to take a breath. Amy giggled as Rachel ran up to her, tired, out of breath and sore. Amy started laughing as Rachel looked up at her. "What!?" Rachel said. "Hehe, how can you be captain of the swim team if you cant run a little before almost passing out?" Amy said. Rachel hit Amy's arm and pushed her a little and started laughing again."So,about the Homecoming." Amy said. "Are you going?" she added. Erik stood on the other side of the wall without saying a word, listening in on the other girls without them knowing. "Only if you are." Rachel said. "Sure,I will." said Amy. "Ok then." Rachel grinned and then the bell rang. Erik walked away without the girls knowing what they said or what he would be planning...
The rest of the school day seemed long and boring as Amy planned what she was going to wear, how to dance, what people would say; about the Homecoming in general. School eventually ended and Amy walked home with Rachel and Amy waved to Rachel as she went inside her house. Amy walked in, ran upstairs and threw her bookbag on the floor with a loud 'thump'. Amy shuffled through her closet to find a nice dress. Amy stood in front of the mirror, trying on every dress until she came upon a long, black dress. she put it on and it fit perfectly. She hurried downstairs and showed her mom, also telling her of the Homecoming that night. "It's tonight? Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Amy's mom said "I didn't know until today... may I go?" said Amy. "Oh, okay.... sure, but be careful." her mom said. "Ok mom, I will." said Amy. "And don't be out too late." her mom said "Don't worry mom, I won't, I'm going with Rachel, so don't worry about it." said Amy. "Ok, ok." her mom said "When is the Homecoming tonight?" she added. "In a few hours." Amy said. "Ok,you have your dress ready? do you ned to get your hair done?" said her mom. "I have my dress ready and I'll fix my hair up myself." Amy said "Ok... are you going to walk there?" said her mom "Yeah, I am..I'll be in my room until then." Amy said and then walked up the stairs to her room.
Ping The doorbell rang and Amy ran downstairs to get the door. Amy's mom answered the door and sure enough, it was Rachel... so beautiful. she was wearing a long, red dress with her hair curled and put up... shining lipstick and high heels. Amy was halfway down the stairs before she saw the angel at her doorway. Her jaw dropped and she just stared at Rachel as she slowly made her way down the stairs. "Hey Rachel, you look great!" Amy said. "As do you." Rachel said as a smile lit up on her beautiful face. "Be right back." said Amy as she ran upstairs to make sure her hair was still fixed up and walked downstairs again. Amy walked across the living room to the door as her mom stopped her. "Ahem, Amy, forgetting something?" her mom said as she held up Amy's shoes. "Oh, yeah, thanks mom." said Amy, hearing Rachel gigging as Amy hugged her mom, kissed her on the cheek and sat down to put her high heels on. "Oh, Amy, take your cell phone in case something happens or you need a ride." Amy's mom said. "Ok, Bye mom... see you in a few hours." said Amy as she got the cell phone, waved to her mom and walked out the door.
"You're so beautiful." Amy said to Rachel as they walked down the street hand-in-hand. "You are too." Rachel said to Amy and they both stopped a moment and looked at each other. They both smiled and continued walking. They arrived at the school and walked inside. The walls were filled with streamers and posters and arrows pointing to the way to the dance. They walked through the dimly lit halls until they walked into the gym, where it seemed as if the whole town was inside. "Wow, look at all these people." Rachel said as they parted hands and sat in the front row of the bleachers. They saw some people staring and pointing at them but they tried not to look at that. They heard the band play as principal on the loudspeaker announced the 2001 Elkwood High Homecoming dance and the cheerleaders did a cheer for that nights victory in the football Homecoming game. About ten minutes later, the principal introduced the dj and the music started playing. The dj played a dance song as some people went out onto the dance floor and danced. Amy and Rachel got up and walked to the dance floor and danced as well. After a few songs Rachel, stopped dancing. "Hey, Amy, I'm a little thirsty... I'm gonna get some punch. You want some?" Rachel said. "No thanks." said Amy as she sat down on the bleachers while Rachel walked over to the concession stand to get some punch. Rachel got some punch and walked back over to the bleachers. She took a drink and lied it down on the bleacher while Amy got back up to dance. Rachel followed.
Hours seemed to pass like minutes as the dj finally played a slow song and Amy put her hands on Rachels waist, Rachel put her arms around Amy's shoulders and they both slow danced. "You have no idea how incredible you've made me feel." Amy whispered into Rachel's ear. "You have no idea how incredible you are." said Rachel, as they both gazed into each other's eyes and looked around at all of the couples slow dancing. What they didn't see, was that Erik was there too. He slipped some alcohol into Rachel's drink without anyone seeing then he walked back into the dark halls of the school.
Rachel stopped dancing and got another drink from her punch. She started to feel a bit dizzy and sat down for a bit. "Are you okay Rachel? You don't look so well." said Amy. "I'm just a bit dizzy, that's all... it's probably the heat." Rachel said. "Be right back." she added as she got up to go to the restroom. She walked through the dark halls into the empty girls restroom; though it wouldn't be empty for long. She bent over the toilet just as Erik walked in. The room wasn't empty so she didn't lock the stall door and Erik walked in on her. He held on a knife up to her throat before she could see who it was and she suddenly didn't feel sick anymore, rather, she was struck with fear. "You're coming with me." he said and Rachel started to scream but Erik taped her mouth shut with duct tape and handcuffed her hands behind her. He dragged her down the hall and out the doors to the dark, silent, empty parking lot and tossed her in the backseat of his Mustang. "Get in lesbian!!" he said as he forced her in, locked the doors and jumped in the drivers seat. Rachel, hearing the engine roar, feeling dizzy and scared, all she could do was lie down and cry. Meanwhile, Amy, however, was sitting there on the bleachers, worried about Rachel. She looked into the cup of punch and noticed there was a different look to it; she noticed there was something in it other than punch. Suddenly, her cell phone started ringing. Amy got up, walked into the hall, away from the music, and answered the phone. "Hello?" Amy said. "Hi Amy, I bet you know who I am." the voice said. Amy pulled away the phone and noticed the voice...Erik. "Where are you and what have you done with Rachel?" Amy said in an angry voice. "Hey, wait, are you sure I have Rachel? Isn't she at the dance with you, Amy?" Amy froze. "She was until you put something in her drink and took her, now where the hell is she? Answer me!" Amy screamed. "You really want to know?" he said. Amy heard Rachel mumbling in the background. "Shut up lesbian!" he screamed at Rachel. "TELL ME WHERE SHE IS DAMNIT!" Amy screamed again as Erik started to laugh. "Over the river and through the woods..." he said as the engine roared again and he took another drink of his Vodka. "Any final words you want to say to your beloved Rachel?" He said as he laughed harder. "Hold on Rachel... I'm coming and I'm gonna help you." Amy said as she ran out of the school. "Oh, I don't think you're gonna be seeing her for a very long time." he said and hung up the phone. "Over thr river and through the woods? Does he mean Milton River? LAST WORDS???" these thoughts raged through her head as she ran along the highway in her high heels...her feet sore...running as fast as she can to Milton River.
Meanwhile, in the car, Erik was drunk as ever and as the car crossed over the bridge, he crashed over the rail and the car plunged over the side. When the car crashed, Erik flew out the windsheild and the glass killed him. Rachel was stuck in the backseat of the car, drowning in the red water. Amy was running as fast as she could. Minutes later, she finally came to the bridge and noticed the huge gash in the rail and the bubbles coming from under the river. She noticed the red water and wondered if that could be Rachel's blood. She took off her shoes, lied her cell phone on the bank and ran into the water, searching for that car. She dove many times before finding the car. She opened the backseat car door and pulled Rachel out. She swam up to the bank with Rachel on her back and lied her on the rocks. "Rachel... get up!" Amy said. Rachel, as if she were lifeless, didn't respond. "Please... don't die, I love you!" Amy said as she started to cry. She glanced around and noticed the cell phone she lied down. Amy ran over to the phone and dialed 911 and told the operator what happened. In minutes, seemed to have stretched into hours, the ambulances came and lied Rachel down on a gurney and Amy and Rachel's mom drove up as well. They saw Amy crying and put a towel around her and lied her in the backseat. "Damn that Erik..." She cried as they drove her home. All Amy could think about was Rachel and if she'd be okay. She couldn't sleep that night and the next morning she went to school, sad, and couldn't concentrate on the work.
"Hey, Amy, I heard about what happened...You okay?" some student said as Amy was sitting down at the lunch table and crying. "Do I look okay to you?" Amy said as she started crying again. "Woah, sorry, by the way, Erik was the main reason you and Rachel were treated so badly." the student said. Amy looked up. "He was? Why?" said Amy. "He was jealous, and he threatened anyone that accepted you or wanted you two as a couple, would hurt them, and him being a star athlete and popularity made us worried about what he'd say or do." the student said. Amy put her head down again. "And would his death change any of this?" said Amy. "Maybe." the student said. The rest of the day passed slow and finally, Amy got home, threw her books down and lied down on the bed and cried again. The phone rang. Amy wiped away her tears and answered the phone. "Amy?" the voice said. "This is she." She said. "This is Doctor Maybourne it's about Rachel." the dortor said. "Is she going to be okay?" Amy gasped. "I think so... yes... why don't you come down to see her for yourself?" said the doctor. "May I come see her now?" she asked. "In an hour." said the doctor. "Great! thank you for calling! bye!" Amy said as she hung up the phone. Amy was overjoyed. Hearing the fact that the love her life was going to survive in what she could have died from. She felt as if she was given a second chance. Amy told her mom that Rachel was going to be okay and they drove down to the hospital.
Amy knocked on the door to Rachel's room. "Come in." Rachel said. "Hey Rachel." said Amy. A big smile lit up on Rachel's face as Amy ran up to hug her. "I missed you." "I missed you more." said Rachel. The two girls engaged in a very tight hug and the doctor walked in. "Hello girls." the doctor said. "Hey." they replied. "Rachel, I have your x-rays here and it seems as if you have suffered a broken arm... but other than that and a few bruises, you're going to be okay." said the doctor. Rachel felt her arm and looked up. "Will I be able to go back to school tomorrow?" "Yes, you will, as soon as we put a cast on you; leave it on for about 6 weeks, then come back here." Rachel looked at Amy and then back at the doctor. "Ok." "Amy, it's time to go." her mom came into the room and said. "Ok mom." Amy walked over to Rachel, kissed her cheek and whispered in her ear, "I love you, bye." "I love you too... bye." Rachel replied as she hugged Amy tight. Amy and her mom walked out the door.
As soon as Amy arrived home, she went into her room, watched tv for a few hours and fell asleep. "Psst, Amy, wake up!" a voice said to her as she awakened. "Rachel!" Amy screamed as she looked up. "Yep, it's me, and if you don't hurry, we're going to be late for school." Amy jumped up, took a shower and ran out of the house with Rachel, all within about an hour. "So, how was the operation?" "It was long, but I'm fine." "Great." They walked to the school, holding hands and walked inside the building. "Hey Amy! Hey Rachel!" some student said. "Hey, wasup you two?" said another. "Ok, what's up with this?" questioned Amy. "Not sure." said Rachel. They both walked into their fist period class and everyone was clapping. "Woah, now this is weird." said Amy as she took a seat. "Congradulations on saving Rachel!" said Mrs. Weston. "Thanks." Amy said as she grinned. "And the fact that Erik was so jealous of you and did nothing but want to destroy all lesbians, threatening the people that accepted them, and him being popular made us fear what he'd say about us." another student said. "Woah, is that true?" Rachel gasped. "I'm afraid so... Erik was the major reason you were treated so harshly." said Mrs. Weston. "I never knew..." said Rachel.
Class started and the school day seemed more liveable; they didn't seem to get harassed as much as before. In fact, social life seemed easier, though they always had someone that didn't accept them, but that was just normal, but at least they weren't beat up and harassed everyday. They passed to the next grade and they met other lesbians, helped support them and their problems and still remained to be a couple. Through rough roads and dark clouds, they found their future in one another. Amy had found her reason in life.
