Angel in black, Chapter 13

Persuasion

"I had been chasing a rogue for a few days, but he kept trying to lose me in the alleys and new construction sites around the city. I finally injured him, slowing him down, but of course he needed to feed after that. When I caught up to him, he had been feeding on a young homeless man who had been sleeping on a bed of newspapers. I stopped the rogue, but not before he drained too much from the young man. I couldn't let an innocent life go to waste, especially after my action in wounding the rogue put him in peril. So I cut open my wrist and managed to get the young man to drink," James explained as a few tears ran down his cheeks.

Matthew couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Are you trying to tell me that YOU turned me sir?" Matthew asked not knowing how to feel.

"Yes, Matthew, then I carried you back to my home and waited for you to wake," James said.

"Why didn't you ever tell me this before?" Matthew asked, feeling a little dejected.

"Honestly? Because I thought you would hate me for turning you, especially after you found out that it was my fault you were in that position," James said, feeling guilty.

Matthew watched as one of the strongest people he knew wept over something that he obviously still felt a great deal of guilt about. "Hate you? I don't think I would have hated you. You might have been the cause of that situation, but my life was going nowhere. I was homeless, stole food to live and almost froze to death every night during winter. You did more than just save my life, you gave me a life to live," Matthew said, smiling with tears in his eyes.

Smiling warmly back at Matthew, James said, "I never had any children before I was turned, just never found the right girl I guess. In three hundred and forty years I've hesitated to turn anyone because I didn't want to curse them to live like we do. You were the first and only vampire I've sired. The lives we lead are solitary ones, Matthew; among all of the creatures of the world we vampires are one of the longest lived. Even still, the need to have a child is still pretty strong."

"You have always been like a father to me, sir," Matthew said.

"You see, that's the reason all of this has happened; my giving you too much attention turned Leon against us. He was giving information to the Thylacine Council, and planned to have you murdered; he was their inside man," James said, sounding hurt and disappointed by Leon's betrayal.

Suddenly angry, Matthew stood up quickly and growled, "I'LL KILL HIM! He put us all in danger, and was the one behind the attack that took Alex's human life."

"Calm down Matthew, Tyson and Bill have taken Leon to my property and are placing him in a cell. What do you mean 'Behind the attack'?" James asked slightly confused.

Sitting back down but still furious Matthew told James about the sword the assassin that stabbed Alex used, and how it had Council insignia on it. "Obviously the vampire didn't intend to get caught; when I gave the sword to Calvin to find out where it came from he was just as shocked as I was. At first I thought YOU had ordered them to kill me, but I know now I was wrong about that," Matthew explained.

"I would NEVER give that order Matthew!" James said shocked that Matthew would think that of him. Continuing he said, "Misuse of Council resources, that's another charge to add to the list," James said as he put a hand on Matthew's back comfortingly. "Let's go home, son," James added, as he got up to go meet the rest so they could leave.

"How big is this place?" Bill asked as they walked down the long corridor.

"As big as the Consul needs it to be," Tyson said as he tapped on what appeared to be a solid stone wall, revealing a small electronic keypad. Tyson typed in his code and the keypad disappeared back into the wall.

"What now?" Bill asked confused, just as the wall opened up into another room.

"We go this way," Tyson said pulling Leon into the holding cell area.

Walking into the center of the round room, Tyson pressed a few buttons on the small pedestal and one of the cells opened. "I'm sure I don't need to remind you that there are both powerful magical dampening spells and electronic dampening devices in these cells? Oh, no, it was Calvin who oversaw the construction of these cells wasn't it, not you," Tyson said, knowing it would make Leon feel worse.

"Kill me," Leon begged.

"Oh, I don't think so. I have orders, you are to live... for now," Tyson said with a smirk.

Leon, out of desperation, charged at Bill, thinking he could catch the human out. Bill quickly spun around drawing the sword Matthew had given him, stopping Leon dead with the silver blade at his throat. "Can I assume YOU are the one who gave Matthew's whereabouts to the were-thylacines?" Bill growled at Leon as the silver blade hissed against Leon's skin.

"He did give away Matthew's location, Bill," Tyson said leaning against the pedestal, not making a move to help Leon.

"Then you are to blame for my son's murder! You remember, the sweet young man that flung you through a wall with his mind? Because of you he is now a vampire," Bill said then he slowly slid the blade across Leon's neck as it sizzled and hissed, slowly cutting into his flesh.

"No one said HE couldn't hurt you," Tyson chuckled as he pushed Leon into the waiting cell just as Bill stepped back, cleaning off his blade with the edge of his shirt.

Standing in the back yard once again, James looked at everyone around him: Marie who had two large suitcases beside her; Calvin who had his arm around Tommy's waist as Tommy stood next to him, holding a small bag with a few changes of clothes for himself; Matthew, wearing his coat and hat with his bags over his shoulder, and Alex, leaning his head against Matthew's chest carrying his own bag; Jack stood a little behind the rest with only the clothes on his back to carry. "Ready everyone?" James asked, to which they all nodded. James waved his arm in the air in front of him, opening a portal into the basement of his home. "This way please," he said, motioning for them all to follow him.

Stepping out into the dark corridor, they all saw a dull light coming towards them, Matthew was the first to realise what it was. "Bill, Tyson," Matthew said as the men came closer.

"Bill, your arm is on fire!" Marie yelled, not knowing it was a spell.

Gently grabbing his hysterical wife, Bill said, "It's alright dear, it's just a magical spell, there's no fire."

Looking at the burning arm of her husband as he held her shoulder, Marie realized there was no heat coming from the flames, and she calmed somewhat. "How do you do that?" she asked.

Bill smiled as he shook his arm, extinguishing the flames. "It's just an illusion and beats carrying a torch," Bill chuckled as they all began walking down the corridor.

James walked over to a nearby wall and, finding the switch, turned on the lights. Everyone but Calvin and Tyson were surprised by the length of the corridor. "How big is this basement?" Bill asked.

"Big enough," James said, walking on towards one end of the corridor.

"Looks like you have made a few changes since I was last here," Matthew said, looking around the room.

"Wait til you see the modifications we made to the cells, and the training rooms," Calvin said, grinning.

"Training rooms?" Tommy asked excitedly.

"Yes, a few years ago I added a magic training room, a room for weapons training and a gym with extra heavy weighted equipment. There's also a shooting range," James explained as they arrived at the staircase leading up to the house.

The group walked up the stairs and out into a hallway lined with dark wood panelling and deep burgundy carpeting. Looking down the hallway James said, "Welcome to my home, please make yourselves comfortable. Calvin, could you please show everyone to a room, I have a call to make." Then James walked off to his office.

Calvin led everyone up another flight of stairs to the second level of the old house. Standing in a similar hallway to the one they had just been in Calvin started walking down the hallway. Stopping at the first door, he opened it and said, "Bill, Marie, I hope this room will be alright?"

Looking in the bedroom that was at least a quarter the size of their entire home, Bill and Marie both looked at Calvin it disbelief. "Alright? This room is huge!" Bill said.

"And there's also a full sized private bathroom and walk-in closet through those doors," Calvin said as he pointed across the room smiling.

Marie just walked to the closet door, opened it, paused, and turned to look at her husband. "It's as big as my kitchen," she managed to whisper, trying her best not to scream in excitement.

Bill just laughed. "You're going to want this at home aren't you?" he asked, already knowing the answer. Marie just grinned and nodded.

Calvin left the couple to explore their room. Smiling he walked to the next room and showed Matthew and Alex in; this room was a little smaller but still had a king size bed in the centre and a private bathroom. "This is... beautiful," Alex said, looking at the intricately carved panels on the walls and ceiling, which carried over on to the frame of the bed. They depicted what looked to be scenes from Shakespeare, mostly "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

"You should be comfortable here," Calvin said as he, Tommy, Tyson and Jack continued walking on. 'Thanks Cal,' Matthew thought as he closed the door.

Smiling at the thought from Matthew, Calvin turned to Tyson. "What are you going to do now, lieutenant?" he asked.

"Oh, well I'll show Jack here to a room then I'll probably just go to my office and work on a few projects. Or I might go and check on our guest in the cells," Tyson said, smirking as he headed off, leading Jack to a room of his own.

"Nothing special for me, thank you; I don't think I deserve it. Just a small room with a bed will be fine," Jack said to Tyson as they walked.

"Bull! You're a guest here too, so you get a fancy room just like the rest of us," Tyson laughed.

Shaking his head, Calvin said, "That man is going to get into some serious trouble one day." Then he led Tommy to his own room.

Stopping at the door, Calvin opened it and gently pulled Tommy inside. "This is my room, well, when I'm not out on an assignment," Calvin said leading Tommy towards the large bed.

"This room is giant!" Tommy exclaimed as he looked around the sparsely decorated but cosy room.

"Yeah, I guess it is," Calvin said softly as he sat on the edge of the bed.

"Calvin, why do you live here at the Consul's home?" Tommy asked, curious as to why Calvin wouldn't have his own home.

"It was part of the conditions of working for the consul; he wanted his most trusted close by. I do actually own several properties, and all the income from them goes into a private bank account," Calvin explained.

"Where was Leon's room?" Tommy asked, realizing that the traitor also stayed there.

"Right next to mine," Calvin said somewhat bitterly.

Looking at an old photo sitting upon a tall chest of drawers of a family, mother, father, a young boy and two young girls, Tommy turned and said, "Take me there."

Calvin looked at Tommy confused for a moment, and then he saw the pale blue glow in Tommy's eyes. "Alright Tommy," Calvin said as he stood and led Tommy to the room next to his own.

Arriving at a door, Tyson said, "Home sweet home - well, for as long as you stay here."

Jack opened the door and peered into the bedroom; he was relieved that it wasn't as large as the others but it was still pretty big. It too had a king sized bed, and its own bathroom. "I guess this will be alright, thank you," he said as he turned to face Tyson.

"Don't mention it, and if you need anything, I'm just across the hall," Tyson said, managing the least sarcastic grin he could.

"Really? I thought you would have put me as far away from everyone as possible?" Jack asked surprised.

"Yes, really, it's my office so to speak and my living area. And this way I can keep an eye on you," Tyson said as he walked off to his office.

"People! Please, I need you to listen! I have evidence of the corruption of almost three quarters of the Thylacine Council, and their attempts to murder my operatives," James said, trying to speak over all of the state and territory governors on the sub-network.

"Well, what do you want us to do? It was your suggestion that they be put under the council's protection in the first place," said the governor for Western Australia.

"I was misled! It was explained to me by the Thylacine Council that their species would die out without our help, but ever since they gained protected status they have been killing senselessly and using their protection to get away with it," James said angrily.

"And where is this evidence?" asked the governor for the Northern Territory.

James was prepared for such a question; he picked up an old folder off of his desk and held it up for everyone to see. "This file has dates and names of both the victims and the Thylacine Councillors who ordered their deaths, and I have in my cells a prisoner who was giving them information about the day to day activities of my people," James explained to them all.

"And you want us to agree to retract their protected status?" asked the South Australian governor.

"NO! I want to send the corrupt councillors to Uluru prison and dissolve their Council, and if they want to resist THEN we remove their protected status," James said loudly slamming the file down onto his desk, surprising a few of the governors.

Calvin opened the door into Leon's private room. The first thing Calvin noticed was just how tidy the room was, it was almost like a sterile environment. "Clean freak much?" Calvin snickered.

Tommy just looked at Calvin and smirked; he took a deep breath and quickly moved off into the room. "Can you smell that?" Tommy asked as he took off towards the bed.

"Smell what?" Calvin asked, confused.

Breathing deeply again, Tommy said, "I can smell Mark... I mean Cousin Matt, it's a very faint scent, but I can smell it."

"Where?" Calvin asked just as Tommy started climbing up the four post bed frame.

Gracefully balancing on the rail at the top of the bed, Tommy stood looking straight up at one of the carved panels in the ceiling. It was an elegantly carved image of a vampire dressed in a formal suit attacking an innocent woman, wearing what appeared to be pauper's clothes. "Here Calvin," Tommy said as he gently pushed on the panel.

"That panel shouldn't look like that; James never had any images of vampires feeding made for the rooms. He didn't like to be reminded of us having to feed on humans to live," Calvin said as the panel clicked and slowly fell from the ceiling.

Tommy felt around in the small space behind where the panel had been. "What's this?" he asked as he removed the old sealed file from its hiding place.

"Let me see," Calvin said as Tommy jumped down from his perch above the bed, landing perfectly on the hard wood floor. Tommy then handed the file to Calvin.

"I can smell Cousin Matt all over that file," Tommy said, looking intently at the aged brown file.

"This can't be," Calvin said amazed. "He couldn't have been so stupid," he said, thinking aloud.

"How is it stupid? He's had that a long time according to Matthew, why not hide it where you know no one's going to look," Tommy said.

Looking at Tommy a moment and realizing he wasn't just a good looking brute that could wield a sword, Calvin said, "You are absolutely right Tommy! Now, I better take this to the consul." Then Calvin ran off to the consul's office.

"Everyone, please quiet! With the evidence I have I could get permission from a higher power; I don't NEED your agreement," James said, frustrated at the indecisive group he was trying to get to side with him.

"We want to see this evidence!" demanded the Tasmanian governor, the rest nodding in agreement with her.

At that moment the office door opened and Calvin quietly stepped in. 'Sir, Tommy and I found this hidden in Leon's former room,' Calvin thought as he held up the real file for James to see.

James couldn't believe it. They had actually found the file, and the evidence he needed to get the stubborn fools to side with him. "You want to see the evidence? HERE it is!" James said as he quickly took the file from Calvin, opening it to show his governors.

After a few governors turned several different shades of green from seeing the horrific images of the deceased victims, they all went quiet, then started talking to each other, some arguing. James tried his hardest to hide the smile that so badly wanted to creep across his face.

Standing there watching all the governors bicker Calvin laughed, thinking, 'How childish.'

James noticed the commotion from the governors was beginning to quieten. Without turning he thought to Calvin, 'Thank you Calvin, you can go back to Tommy now. Oh, and please don't mention to anyone that we have this file; I don't want Leon finding out that we don't need him anymore, not just yet anyway.'

Calvin nodded and left the room, quietly closing the door.

The governors stopped their bickering and turned back to James, who was still trying not to smile. "What are you going to do, side with me or am I going to go over your heads?" James asked calmly, but he was ready to snap if one of them said the wrong thing.

It was the Victorian governor that spoke for the rest. "After seeing the evidence, and listening to your arguments we have decided to support your actions, Consul," she said sounding every bit the young teen she appeared to be.

"But don't think we are going to send OUR people to help you if it all goes pear shaped!" spat the Queensland governor, his screen immediately going black.

"Thank you all, and don't worry I DON'T expect any help from ANY of you," James said then he pressed a button on his desk and all the governors were cut off. "Self obsessed pricks," James said out of frustration to him self as he sat down at his desk.

"That was quite a bluff there James, I thought they weren't going to believe it for a moment. Good thing Calvin showed up with the real file," chuckled a voice as a face appeared on the screen.

Looking up from his desk at the screen opposite him, James saw the man smiling warmly back at him. "Sire, eaves dropping again?" James asked, laughing.

"How many times must I tell you not to call me sire? I have a name you know!" the man laughed.

"Yes I know Pedro, but you know how much I enjoy that look you give me when I call you sire," James said smirking.

Pedro looked at James, raising an eyebrow and half cringing then laughed some more. "Yes, I know how much you enjoy it. And I never eaves drop! If you contacted me a little more frequently I might not have to monitor your arguments," Pedro said, again smiling warmly at James.

"You have to admit it went well, played them right into my hands. Especially when they saw the photos," James said.

"Yes that was good, but you didn't hide that smile well enough," Pedro teased.

"Bugger you; none of the governors saw it!" James laughed.

"No, well they are the 'self obsessed pricks'! They wouldn't notice," laughed Pedro.

James's smile faded as he thought about the file before him. "I finally have the evidence to clear Matthew; he won't have to worry about being hunted anymore. But first I have to sort out the Thylacine Councillors," James said bitterly.

"You know they're not just going to let you send them to prison; they WILL put up a fight. I'm just concerned that they might be too much, even for you," Pedro said with a concerned tone in his voice.

"What's this? Pedro Salazar showing concern for someone other than his GREAT wizard brother," James said sarcastically as he moved around his desk and closer to the screen.

Looking at James a moment, Pedro tried to feel hurt but he couldn't. "I guess I deserve that, but I never said I didn't care about you James!" Pedro snapped back.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you," James said feeling guilty for saying that to his sire. "I know you care about me; I'm just angry about everything that's been happening these last decades, with the thylacines and Matthew, and now Leon! I just want it all to be finished," he added.

"I know James, and you have my support what ever you decide to do, you know that," Pedro said warmly.

Taking a moment to think, James asked, "Actually, Pedro, do you think you could get Matthew reinstated and the rogue status revoked? I don't even want to try and discuss it with those twit governors; they were all for branding him a rogue in the first place."

Considering James's request carefully Pedro replied, "I will get the other consuls online and discuss it with them, but I can't promise you anything."

"But you'll try," James began to ask hesitantly, "as hard as you'd want someone to try for Avery?"

"I swear it on my life," Pedro said, becoming very serious for a moment.

"Alright, well then I appreciate you trying, what ever the outcome," James smiled.

"Talk to you again soon, James.... And take care of yourself," Pedro said then the screen went black.

Calvin and Tommy were back in their room, Tommy again looking at the old photo upon the chest of drawers. "Who are they?" he asked as he turned to Calvin.

"They were my family, my parents and my sisters," Calvin said sadly.

"You didn't lose your family too did you?" Tommy asked.

Calvin looked at him a moment before answering, "No, well not in the way you mean, I outlived them. What do you mean too?"

"Oh, ok, I just thought... well Mark, I mean Matthew, well he told me what happened to his family, how they were brutally murdered, and I just thought that you lost yours a similar way?" Tommy said feeling slightly embarrassed.

Smiling warmly at Tommy, Calvin explained, "No, nothing so sinister happened to my family; they continued on after my 'death'."

"So what happened to you?" Tommy asked, wanting to get to know his mate.

Calvin thought a moment about how to explain what happened to him to Tommy. "I fell for the wrong girl, Tommy. When I was in my early twenties, I courted a beautiful young lady; I had even planned to marry her. But she failed to inform me of her previous lover. He was psychotic, and unknown to either of us a vampire, he stalked her constantly. Then one night, while she and I were out enjoying a walk along the river, he attacked us. He killed her - Margaret - then he bit me and said that he wanted me to remember always that I could never have her. Then he fed me his blood before I passed out. When I woke up a few days later, I was in a coffin and had been buried," Calvin explained.

"That's horrifying," Tommy said as he thought about Calvin saying he was planning to marry this woman; it made him a little jealous.

Calvin could feel the jealousy coming from Tommy, so he put his arm around Tommy and led him to the bed. "Tommy, that was a long time ago; since then there hasn't really been anyone. I though there might have been something between Matthew and myself once, but nothing came of that," Calvin said, sitting on the bed with Tommy.

The look on Tommy's face said he didn't believe what Calvin was saying.

Calvin could see that Tommy wasn't convinced so he said, "You don't have to worry Tommy, there's no one on earth I would rather be with. I am yours." Then he pulled Tommy down on top of him and started kissing him passionately.

"We defeated the man that murdered your family, and found out who was giving away information. What do we do now?" Alex asked as he lay on the bed with his head on Matthew's shoulder and his arm across his stomach, gently rubbing the scar on Matthew's side.

"We may have defeated Jackson, but he wasn't the one that ordered my family's deaths. That information was in the files. Whatever it was my father knew, it was enough for the thylacines to kill them all and not just him. I WILL bring the bastard that gave the order to justice!" Matthew said, trying to hold back his anger.

Sensing the determination from Matthew, Alex said, "What ever WE need to do, we will do together from now on. But for now I think we both need to relax." Alex sat up and took his shirt off, revealing his slim but defined torso. He then straddled Matthew's waist and slowly moved his shirt up toward his head, gently licking and kissing Matthew's well defined abs along the way. "You have no idea how long I have wanted to do this," Alex said as he continued his gentle kissing up Matthew's chest.

"Oh my god, that feels amazing!" Matthew exclaimed as he tightly gripped the bed sheets.

Smiling at himself, Alex quickly removed Matthew's shirt and held his arms gently above his head as he leaned in to kiss him. The kiss lasted a good little while as they both explored each other's mouths, trying to taste as much as they could of each other. When Alex broke the kiss and released Matthew's arms, Matthew rolled them both over so Alex was now lying on his back and Matthew was straddling his waist.

Matthew repeated Alex's performance; starting at Alex's stomach, he gently kissed his way up, slowly licking up Alex's stomach to his chest, stopping at his nipples, licking and gently nibbling at the sensitive flesh. Alex gripped the bed sheets much the same way Matthew had but also arched his back off the bed moaning out of sheer pleasure.

Matthew moved up to Alex's ear and whispered, "You are beautiful." Then he kissed Alex quickly and continued down his chest, licking and nibbling; all the while Alex writhed in ecstasy. Matthew slowly undid the board shorts Alex was wearing and slid them off. Sitting back on his knees, Matthew took in the sight of Alex lying in his underwear grinning back at him. Even though Matthew had already seen Alex naked, this was different, this was.... "I must be the luckiest guy in the world right now," Matthew said.

Alex sat up and took Matthew's hands, gently pulling him back down on top of himself. "I'm yours, always, my love," Alex said then he again kissed Matthew passionately, his hands running up and down Matthew's back.

Matthew could feel Alex's hands on his back gently rubbing in circles. When the fly of his pants started to undo itself, Matthew looked down surprised. Matthew watched as his pants slowly unbuttoned themselves then slide down and off his legs and flung themselves over the side of the bed. "Now we both have the same amount of clothing on," Alex giggled.

Looking up into the sparkling jade eyes of his lover, Matthew smiled and teased Alex with a quick peck on the lips, before resuming kissing Alex's neck, nibbling softly, driving Alex crazy.

Alex couldn't take it much longer; he felt like he would explode from the sensations he was feeling. Using his telekinetic ability he lifted Matthew above him then turned both himself and Matthew so they swapped places. Alex then lowered himself so he was lying flat on Matthew, their chests pressed together and their manhood's straining against their underwear.

"I have imagined doing this to you ever since I knew how I felt about you," Alex said as he rubbed his nose against Matthew's. He slowly moved down Matthew's body, ever so lightly teasing with feather light kisses all the way down his chest and stomach. Now Matthew was writhing in pure delight.

When Alex got to the waist band of Matthew's underwear he paused, smiled up at Matthew, before slowly pulling his underwear down, gently kissing as he did. Alex pulled Matthew's briefs off, sitting back to take in the image of Matthew lying naked before him for the first time. Matthew's skin was slightly tanned, with a very light dusting of black hair on his chest trailing down his abs to his waist. Taking off his own underwear, Alex crawled up the bed and lay down next to Matthew. Taking Matthew's hard member in hand, Alex whispered "I love you Matthew."
