Angel in Black, Chapter 8
Surprises abound
Tommy walked into the kitchen and made a sandwich. As he poured some juice, he sat thinking about this new person. 'Calvin. Hmm he's cute,' he thought to himself. He had just finished eating and was still thinking when Marcos and Calvin walked in the room. He blushed a bright shade of red when he saw Calvin; Calvin just looked at Tommy and smiled.
"So, Tommy, I had a thought. How would you like to do a little training with the two best assassins in this country?" Marcos asked.
Tommy loved the idea. "REALLY! When can we start?" he asked, excited.
"Soon. I want to see your parents for a minute. Why don't you get to know Cal here a little better?" Marcos asked.
"Umm... I... ah... okay Marky," Tommy stammered out.
'This should be good,' Marcos thought to himself as he left the room. He looked for Bill, knowing he had been back for a while. Marcos found Bill sitting with Alex. "William? Where is Marie?" Marcos asked.
"She said she needed to get out of the house for a while. I think she went off with some of her friends," Bill replied.
"Oh, ok. Well she should be safe enough. They are planning to attack here, as far as we know. Did you find what you were looking for?" Marcos asked.
Bill looked at him for a moment, then said, "No. Well not exactly. I walked in to the store and was going to buy a revolver, but then I realised me using it against anything like you would be pointless. I'm just not fast enough, anymore."
"Anymore? Okay now I'm curious, what do you mean by that?" Marcos asked.
"Well, when I was younger, I was in the army, straight out of high school. Never saw much action - mainly training and war games - though I was the best shooter in my squad and the quickest draw," Bill proudly said.
"Well, if you didn't get a gun, what did you buy?" Marcos asked.
"Well, I may have been damn good with a pistol, but I was better with a blade. My parents insisted I take lessons when I was younger," Bill said.
"You didn't?" Marcos asked.
"I did!" Bill said. "I bought it for me, but when I got home and saw you and Tommy training, I knew it would be better in his hands. He is so talented with that blade and only after a morning of training, I know I couldn't keep up with him. It's been years since I have even practised, but Tommy he could really do some damage if he needed too," Bill told him.
"And you are going to give it to Tommy?" Marcos asked.
"I am. Where is he now?" Bill asked.
"He's in the kitchen with Calvin waiting for me so we can continue training," Marcos said.
"Okay, I assume you are going to sit here with Alex for a minute?" Bill asked.
"Yeah, go! Surprise Tommy, I'll be right here," Marcos said and Bill left the room.
Marcos sat on the bed and rested his hand on Alex's chest and thought, 'Shouldn't be much longer now baby, another day I hope. Then we will be together again. I just hope you wake before trouble gets here. We could really use your help.' Marcos then leaned in and gently kissed Alex's forehead.
Tommy and Calvin were sitting at the kitchen table; nothing had been said by either of them. Tommy would look at Calvin and blush then turn away. Calvin just smiled. Bill came in the room carrying a long narrow black box, which he sat on the table, and looked at Tommy.
"Dad, what's that?" Tommy asked.
"Open it," Bill said.
"What is it," Tommy started to ask as he opened the box. When he saw the katana in it, his jaw almost hit the floor. "Dad?" he asked confused.
"Well, I know it's not exactly a normal gift, but considering this family and what's coming I thought you should have it," Bill said.
"But why? You didn't know I was training with a sword this morning when you left?" Tommy asked.
"No, I bought it for me. When I got home and saw you outside training with Marcos, I knew it would be better if you had it. I'm not as quick as I use to be," Bill smirked.
"Thanks dad," Tommy said, smiling.
Marcos came back into the kitchen after Bill went and sat with Alex again. "What do you say we try that thing out, Tommy?" Marcos asked.
With a determined look, Tommy just nodded; then the three of them again went outside to train.
"Cal, you take my Katana; Tommy has his own now. I will stick to the hunting knives," Marcos said, again taking a hunting knife in each hand.
Calvin took Marcos' Katana and noticed something was off with it. "Marc the balance is off with this sword; I can't believe you didn't know," Calvin said.
"Oh, I knew. I just wanted to see how Tommy could handle it," Marcos said.
"Well how did he do?" Calvin asked.
"He was impressive. For only a mornings training and him being just a human, he did really well," Marcos said.
"Marc, I have to tell you, Tommy isn't just a human," Calvin said.
Marcos looked at him for a moment. "What do you mean Cal?" Marcos asked.
"After everything with Tommy's father, I did some research. You remember how I told you that Walter was being watched? Well, it turns out that someone has been watching his family for over ninety years. Since his family arrived from England," Calvin said.
"Yeah, and?" Marcos asked starting to get a little impatient.
"Yeah. Well, he's a wolf!" Calvin snapped back.
Marcos' was stunned. Usually he could tell a were-creature as soon as he looked at one, but Tommy he couldn't. Marcos looked over at Tommy, who was practicing with his new sword; his movements were so graceful and smooth. Tommy moved with an agility that no human could. Now Marcos could see: now that he knew, he could see Tommy wasn't 'just' human.
Calvin knew that look on Marcos's face. He was thinking, 'How could I have missed it?' so Calvin continued, "You missed it because he's only part were-wolf, quite a few generations removed. That's why someone was watching Walter, but he wasn't the one with the were-wolf DNA. It was Tommy's mother. But that's not what shocked me.... Marc, he's related to you," Calvin said.
"What?" Marcos said shocked.
"He's your great-great-great-great cousin. Seems the woman your uncle married was also part were-wolf. Your uncle had a daughter, and she had a daughter who had a daughter. Tommy was the first male born to your uncle's line since your death. Your uncle's family came over here from England a couple years after your family was killed," Calvin explained.
"My uncle... I remember he and my dad were twins. When I ran away from the orphanage, I never went back to see if anyone was looking for me," Marcos said, barely above a whisper.
"Well, they came here after they received a telegram about your family's death; they looked for you but couldn't find you. They thought you died too. But when they couldn't find you they decided to settle here in Australia too," Calvin said.
"I never knew... I could have been with a family and lived a normal life if I had gone back. Now I wish I had," Marcos sobbed.
Calvin put his arm around Marcos' shoulder and gave him a brotherly hug. "There's nothing you can do about it now, Marc. That was a century ago. Right now you have a new family and a new love waiting for you."
"And someone's trying to kill us," Marcos added bitterly.
"Well, there is that, but you are not alone now Marc," Calvin finished. "Now are we going to train your last living descendant?" Calvin said, smiling. He knew that would get Marcos moving.
Marcos' eyes lit up, and he grinned at that. 'Last living descendant,' he thought. Now he had two more reasons to fight. Marcos turned and gave Calvin a tight hug and said, "Thanks Cal." Then he turned back to where Tommy was now standing and watching them. He saw a look of confusion on Tommy's face.
Tommy was watching Marcos and Calvin talk. Then Calvin put his arm around Marcos' shoulders and said something he couldn't hear. Then Marcos turned and gave Calvin an intimate hug and had a big grin on his face. Tommy was both jealous and angry. Then Marcos turned back to him and suddenly looked confused. Tommy blinked and Marcos was standing face to face with him.
"Tommy, what's wrong?" Marcos asked.
Tommy turned his head away to hide his blushing face. "I... Nothing," he said.
Marcos gently put his hand on Tommy's face and turned his head back so they were staring into each others eyes again. "Tommy you know you can tell me anything. What is it?" Marcos said.
"I... you... Calvin," Tommy stammered.
Marcos moved his hands to Tommy shoulders. "Thomas, calm down! You can talk to me! What's wrong?" he asked.
Tommy swallowed hard and said, "You love, Calvin ... and I'm angry! What about Alex?"
'Is that all!' Marcos thought to himself. "I do love Calvin, but not in the way you think, Tommy. I have known him for a very long time he is my most trusted friend but I LOVE Alex," he told Tommy.
Tommy's still wasn't convinced. "Why did you hug him like that then?" Tommy asked.
'He's jealous!' Marcos thought. "Calvin just gave me some interesting news. Seems I have a living descendant and that there is something very special about him," Marcos said grinning.
Calming down a little more Tommy asked, "So you're not interested in Calvin?"
"You ARE jealous!" Marcos said, which caught Calvin's attention and made Tommy blush a deep crimson.
"NO! I'm not... maybe... I umm... I like Calvin," Tommy stammered.
Marcos chuckled and said, "You thought I wanted Calvin? Haha! No, I was just so happy about what he told me. It gives me more reasons to keep fighting and stop running."
"What did he tell you, Marky?" Tommy asked, still blushing and glancing over Marcos' shoulder at Calvin, who was looking back smiling.
"My descendant is YOU Tommy! You're my cousin," Marcos said grinning from ear to ear.
"What?" Tommy said shocked. "What do you mean?" Tommy asked confused.
"You are related to me. my uncle was your great-great-great grandfather to be exact. On your mother's side," Marcos explained.
"Really? That's AWESOME!" Tommy said excitedly, then hugged Marcos. "Wait, you said there is something special about me. What is it?" he then asked.
"Well, you're part were-wolf, Tommy. Not very much, mind you, otherwise I would have known the first time we met. You have never transformed, so I guess it doesn't have much affect on you. Might explain why you are stronger and faster than every other human your age though. Your senses might be better too," Marcos said.
"That's so COOL! We have to do some more training! I want to test this all out," Tommy said excited.
"Alright, then, we will get started. What do you think about your new sword?" Marcos asked.
"It feels different, better somehow," Tommy replied.
"It should feel better! My sword is off balance; I need to have it repaired, but I haven't found anyone I could trust. Yours is perfect. You should be able to handle it so much better than my old sword," Marcos said with a laugh.
"I thought there was something strange about your katana. I tried to compensate, but I couldn't move any faster. Mine feels so much better!" Tommy said.
"Well, how about we try one on one to start! Then if you can handle it, Cal will jump in," Marcos said, grinning. Tommy nodded, then took up a defensive position, his new katana in hand.
'Cal, I want you to be ready to jump in when I say,' Marcos thought to Calvin, who nodded.
Marcos again used a pair of hunting knives, ready for what ever Tommy could throw at him. Marcos could see Tommy was waiting for him to make a move, but this time something was different. Tommy was excited. Marcos could feel it coming off him in waves, but he was also focused. More than he had been earlier.
Marcos launched himself at Tommy; he went to strike Tommy's arm but hit steel instead. 'Easy move to anticipate,' he thought to himself. Marcos then tried to get around behind Tommy but found it hard too. Every time he got anywhere near Tommy's back, Tommy would spin around to face him. 'Interesting,' Marcos thought, 'he's anticipating my moves, and he's gotten faster.'
Marcos sped up his attacks but couldn't get close to Tommy. 'Cal NOW!' Marcos thought. Calvin jumped at Tommy with Marcos' katana, catching him by surprise. Tommy spun around and growled at Calvin, then turned back and knocked Marcos back a few steps.
Both Marcos and Calvin were shocked at what they saw. Tommy looked the same, with the exception that his silver eyes had a pale blue glow and his canine teeth had lengthened. He looked somewhat like a vampire, but his lower canines were longer too.
Calvin tried to approach Tommy but when ever he moved Tommy would step towards him, ready to strike with his sword. Tommy needed to calm down. "Tommy, calm down! No one's going to hurt you," Calvin said.
Tommy kept looking between Marcos and Calvin, growling at them both. "Tommy, look at me," Marcos said. Tommy's eyes snapped to Marcos's face. "Tommy, calm down! Look into my eyes! I won't hurt you," Marcos said, trying to sooth Tommy.
Tommy started to calm down and was still looking into Marcos's eyes. "Marky?" Tommy asked as his teeth slowly retracted.
"Yeah, Tommy, it's me," Marcos said.
"Calvin?" Tommy called, anxiously looking around.
"Here Tommy, I'm fine," Calvin said, seeing that Tommy was concerned.
"What happened?" Tommy asked.
"You don't remember?" Calvin asked surprised.
"No. I remember trying to focus and blocking Marky's attacks, then I felt you close by, then nothing," Tommy said to Calvin.
"It would appear that Calvin surprising you triggered a reaction. You were growling at both of us and your teeth lengthened," Marcos explained.
"Why when I joined the session and not while you were attacking?" Calvin asked.
"I'm no expert, but it might be because Tommy has trained with me for a long time. He trusts me. He only just met you Cal," Marcos said looking at Calvin. "Am I correct Tommy?" he asked.
Tommy nodded. He might have been a young man but at that moment he felt like he was ten years old. "What's going to happen?" Tommy whispered.
"Well, I think that this could be a good advantage. As far as we know, no one can tell you are part were-wolf. You look like an athlete, and I think anyone would underestimate you in a fight. We need to try and work on this, and I think it would go faster if you and Calvin work on it without me, Tommy," Marcos said.
"What? No... what do you expect me to do?" Calvin stammered.
"I'm no threat to Tommy, but you he barely knows. I want you to bring his inner beast out, but slowly. And don't worry, you will be fine. I could make it out here before anything could happen anyway," Marcos told him. 'Besides, Cal, I don't think it was just me that calmed him down before. Have fun!' He thought to Calvin and smirked as he walked back into the house.
Walking into Alex and Tommy's bedroom to find Bill asleep on Tommy's bed, Marcos chuckled. 'Must be worn out, poor guy,' he thought to himself.
'I heard that!' Bill thought before he opened his eyes to sit up. "Don't talk so loud, you'll wake the dead!" Bill then spoke.
Marcos looked amazed, "Bill, I didn't say anything. I thought that to myself," he said.
Bill just looked at Marcos like he was kidding, when he realised that he was serious. Pointing to Alex, he asked, "Alex is doing that? It was so loud like someone was screaming right next to my ear!"
"His ability must be getting stronger. We had to be with in a couple feet of him before, but now it's working from the other side of the room," Marcos said.
"Alright, well, he should be waking up in a little over a day, right? Do you think this effect will get much stronger?" Bill asked.
"I'm not sure. It might, or this might be as far as it reaches. Only time will answer that," Marcos said as he sat down beside Alex on the bed.
"Alright, it looks like my watch is over. I'll leave you two alone," Bill said.
"Thanks Bill. You didn't have to sit here with him all this time, you know," Marcos said appreciatively.
"I know, Marcos," Bill replied with a warm smile.
"I don't know what I'm supposed to do here, Tommy. I've never trained someone with dormant abilities before," Calvin admitted.
"Well, before, I was trying to focus on blocking, then you came up behind me. Maybe we should start there?" Tommy asked.
"Sounds like as good a place as any to start, but I think we should try this with out any weapons, at least to start off. Wouldn't want you to get hurt or anything," Calvin winked.
"Okay, well, what should I do then?" Tommy asked.
"I want you to stand here, and close your eyes," Calvin told him. "I'm going to quickly move around you, and I want you to try to stop me with your arm as I pass you," he explained.
Tommy nodded and closed his eyes. Calvin noticed a faint blue glow just before Tommy closed his eyes and smiled. 'This might just work,' Calvin thought to himself.
"Ready, Tommy?" Calvin asked. Tommy replied with an almost growled, "Yes."
Calvin started running at a rate slightly faster than normal and circled Tommy a few times, then closed to within Tommy's reach. Tommy easily stopped him. "Faster!" Tommy said so Calvin sped up.
Cal sprinted past Tommy fast enough to pick up the dust off the ground. Again Tommy easily stopped Calvin. With a frustrated growl he said, "Faster Calvin!"
Again Calvin picked up the pace. He blurred past Tommy in the blink of an eye. If a normal person tried to do what Tommy did, they would probably end up with a dislocated shoulder. Still Tommy was able to catch Calvin with little effort. "FASTER!" Tommy yelled.
"Tommy, there's no way you could catch me if I went any faster, and it could injure you to try," Calvin said.
"I want you to go faster Calvin! I can handle it," Tommy pleaded in an almost animal tone.
"I hope you're right, Tommy," Calvin said. Then he started to run at Tommy full speed; he circled Tommy and dodged the boy's attempts to catch him. But every pass Calvin made, Tommy would get closer to catching him.
They had been doing this for a couple hours, and Tommy was dripping with sweat, when Calvin was telling him they should take a rest. "NO! Keep going," Tommy said.
Calvin could see the exhaustion on Tommy's face, but he knew Tommy wasn't going to give in, so he continued. Calvin ran past a few more times, and then he felt Tommy's fingers brush his back, and then again on the next pass. Then Tommy's hand slipped off his shoulder.
Calvin was surprised that Tommy could be fast enough to actually touch him. So he was shocked when, on the last pass he made, Tommy actually caught him. Calvin couldn't believe it. It wasn't just an arm out to stop him; Tommy had his arm around Calvin's neck, stopping him from moving.
"Tommy, you did it!" Calvin excitedly said. "You can let me go now," he added.
Tommy still had his eyes closed, but he was grinning, "More Calvin. This time use the katana and hand mine to me. I'll attack as you come at me and you block," Tommy said, adding to the intensity of the training.
"You can open your eyes now, Tommy. You're going to need them for this," Calvin warned.
"I know Calvin, let's start," Tommy said still grinning.
Again Calvin started running at Tommy, but only at half the speed he was capable of. Tommy spun around and met Calvin's sword, stopping him dead in his tracks. "Don't slow down, Calvin! Don't worry about hurting me! I need to get this right, and we don't have forever to train," Tommy said.
Noticing Tommy's eyes were still closed, Calvin stopped and looked him. "Tommy, open your eyes a moment?" he asked.
Tommy opened his eyes and looked at Calvin. "I can't fail at this, and I need to be able to protect my family. Please help me, and don't be afraid to draw blood. I'm not," Tommy pleaded.
Calvin saw the pleading look in Tommy's eyes and the blue glow hiding behind it. "Alright, Tommy, but I'll say I'm sorry now for when I do hurt you," Calvin said.
"You won't hurt me... let's start," Tommy said, again closing his eyes.
Marcos had been lying with Alex for a few hours. He was grateful for the break from training Tommy, not that he wasn't listening to Tommy and Cal train. Marcos was impressed. Not only had Tommy caught Calvin, but he did it without using his eyes.
Now they were training with katanas, and Tommy was easily keeping up with Calvin, even though he was standing still. Tommy would anticipate Cal's movements and strike to stop him; when their blades met Marcos could hear how hard they were pushing each other. "Time for something unexpected," Marcos whispered to himself.
He got up and stood in the middle of the room; he had left his knives outside, but for what he was thinking he wouldn't need them. One of the tricks Elder had taught him allowed him to instantly move from one place to another, but it was extremely draining the further you tried to go.
"Now, remember, Marcos, this spell drains your spiritual energy, and the further you go the more energy you use. It's perfect during a fight or to make a quick escape, but distance is key and remember to focus on where you want to appear or you might end up in a wall or something," Marcos could hear Elder's words reverberating in his head.
'Focus, Matthew, focus!' Marcos thought to himself, then focused on Tommy and appearing right behind him.
Tommy was meeting Calvin blow for blow; there were sparks every time their blades met. Tommy felt something behind him, but it was already too late for him to do anything. "Time for you to die boy!" the figure said menacingly.
Tommy could sense Calvin, but he couldn't hear him. For all he knew Calvin was in a similar position. The figure held Tommy's arms behind his back and then went to Tommy's neck. Tommy could feel the sharp teeth on his skin; he was scared, thinking he was about to die. Suddenly he thought, 'I can't let that happen! Who would protect my family?'
Marcos could feel Tommy's fear, and he hated doing this, but he felt it was necessary. He tightened his grip on Tommy and pressed into his neck a little harder, trying his hardest to make Tommy feel his teeth without breaking the skin. Suddenly Marcos felt a change, and he knew that what was about to come was going to hurt.
Tommy opened his eyes and just for a moment there was a dull blue flash in the darkness. "You are mistaken VAMPIRE!" Tommy growled then he lifted both his legs and slammed his feet into Marcos knees.
Marcos swore. He wasn't expecting Tommy to do that, and he relaxed his grip on Tommy just enough for him to get an arm free. Tommy brought his arm up and hit Marcos in the face a lot harder than he had the first time.
Marcos let go of Tommy and stumbled back a few steps. Tommy took the time to retrieve his katana from where he had dropped it, then stood ready to strike. When he saw who had attacked him he froze. "Marky?" he asked confused.
Marcos, who was trying to recover from the blow he received from Tommy, struggled to say, "I'm sorry for scaring you Tommy."
"WHY did you do that Marky? I could have killed you!" Tommy said angrily.
"You need to be able to use this ability you have, and just playing with Cal wasn't going to help you. I felt you needed to feel like you were actually in danger, and it worked. You are controlling it right now," Marcos explained as he stared into the silver blue glowing eyes of his cousin.
"I understand, Marcos. If I knew you were going to try to surprise me it wouldn't have worked, but I'm still angry with you. Umm how did you do that anyway? I didn't hear you coming," Tommy said slowly calming down.
"It's not something I can do very often, but I learnt it from a good friend some years ago. It's a type of magic that allows me to almost instantly jump from one place to another, but it's very draining," Marcos explained. "I'm very sorry Tommy. You know I wouldn't do anything like that without a reason. I don't want you freezing up again when someone attacks. I couldn't bear to loose you, especially not now," Marcos added.
All the anger Tommy had directed towards Marcos dissolved in that moment, and Tommy couldn't help but want to hug him. "I'm sorry I hit you so hard Marky, but I remembered what happened last time I hit you, and I didn't know it was you so I thought the harder the better," Tommy smirked.
"It's alright, Tommy. I was anticipating that whatever you were going to do would hurt. I didn't expect you to go for my knees though. And that was a nice hit. I think I'm going to have a bruise later," Marcos said. "I'm proud of you, Thomas," Marcos added, smiling at his cousin.
Tommy just smiled back at Marcos, his eyes sparkling in the moonlight.
"I think that's enough training for today, Tommy. Let's all go and rest now. First, though, think you can retract these," Marcos said as he gently tapped on one of Tommy's fangs.
"I'll try," Tommy said, and then concentrated hard on retracting his teeth. They slowly receded, and Tommy winced a little as they did. They didn't retract all the way, and Tommy now permanently had four pointed canine teeth that were slightly longer than normal.
"Well that certainly looks different," Marcos smiled as they walked inside. "Come on Cal, or are you going to stay out here all night?" Marcos laughed.
Tommy needed a hot shower after the day's rough training, Marcos and Calvin were more than happy to point out that fact. While Tommy showered, Marcos and Calvin talked. "So this is Alex," Calvin said.
Marcos nodded as he sat on the edge of the bed near Alex. "I love him Cal," he whispered.
"Stating the obvious again, Marc?" Calvin laughed.
"No... confirming. The obvious would be that you like Tommy," Marcos said.
Calvin blushed as much as he could and said, "Is it that obvious?"
"Only to me Cal. Remember, I have known you a long time," Marcos smiled.
"That you have, Marc," Calvin agreed smiling back.
"Cal, I'm sorry I left you all those years ago. I knew you cared about me, but I was too blind," Marcos said.
"I forgave you years ago, Marc, and I understood your wanting to find your family's killers," Calvin said.
"You did? I thought you would have hated me. You were the only one I contacted after my exile in the outback. I wanted to see you and tell you how much I cared, but it was too dangerous then," Marcos said starting to ramble.
Calvin put his hand on Marcos' shoulder. "And now you have Alex, Marc. It's okay, you don't have to explain it to me. Besides, I think I might have finally found my love," Calvin said, giving Marcos a broad smile.
Marcos smiled. "Take care of him, Cal. He may be strong, but he's fragile. And if you hurt him in any way ... well, you've seen what I do to those that harm my family," Marcos said in a friendly warning.
Calvin was shocked; Marcos had never threatened him before. "Protective in your old age, aren't you?" he laughed.
"You know it!" Marcos replied with a grin.
"You look a little different, Tommy," Bill said, as a grinning Tommy was just coming out of the bathroom after his shower.
"How so, dad?" Tommy asked.
"More confident and sure of yourself. I like it. Your teeth look different, too," Bill said, commenting on Tommy's smile.
"Thank you. Calvin told Marky about my heritage; he found out that I'm part were-wolf," Tommy said as he dried his hair.
"That's... interesting," Bill said, pausing to take in the information.
"Also that Marky is my cousin," Tommy added as he started off towards the bedroom.
Bill was stunned. "That's amazing! And after all that time he still found you and didn't even know it," Bill said, trying to get his head around the fact of Marcos being Tommy's biological cousin, albeit ninety years removed.
Alex was so happy he could sense everyone in the house; he didn't feel alone when someone left his side. Everyone was just getting ready for or going to bed. They all came in and told him good night, even this new person Calvin. Alex knew he could be trusted. He was amazed at Tommy's transformation and at how fast he had gotten. Then he heard the lullaby which had become so familiar and Matthew's voice accompanying it. 'Hopefully, by this time tomorrow, Alex, you will be awake. I just hope we are still here to be with you. The attack is supposed to be tomorrow sometime. Tommy is ready now! I'm so proud of him; he has come so far from that boy who bullied you eight years ago. And he's also my cousin! I never saw that coming! I can't wait for you to meet Calvin. He's one of my oldest and best friends. I love you, Alex, and I can't wait to see you smile again.'
'I can't wait to see everything I have missed! I love you too, Matthew; I wish you could hear me,' Alex thought.
