Birds chirped in the trees outside, I could hear the water of the pool trickling down from the fountain that fed the filtered water back into the pool. Sunlight sprinkled my bed in thin luminous rays.

You know, all those annoying things that wake me up in the morning.

I sat up, had a good,  lengthy  yawn and looked around my room.

When I realized I wasn't alone in my bed, I stifled a scream and fell out of it backwards.

Once on the floor, I realized how much pain my head was in. I groaned.

I sat down in my arm chair and decided to study this guy who was lying in my bed. Oh God! I didn't even recognize him!

He was very attractive though. Even sleeping, he looked sexy, and funny.

He was naked, the sheets only just covering up to his waist. I realized I was naked too so I quickly grabbed a pair of underwear that was lying next to me and pulled it on. I wondered what the hell I was going to do once this stranger woke up.

I looked at him closely. He had a very good body. His muscles were very well defined, the smooth lines of his pecks sitting just above a flat stomach that was bordering on a six pack, with a little trail of hair going down from his belly button to his crotch. He was tan too, so perfectly. His face was......angelic. Not exactly the face of a CK model, but it was still a beautiful face, filled with character. His nose was a bit turned up at the end, giving him an innocent, boyish look. His eyebrows gave him a permanently humerus look. The corners of his mouth were turned up in a perpetual grin. He was definitely my type.

Not that I'm saying Jared, who always looked like he had just stepped out of a underwear catalog, wasn't. It's just that it felt a bit...... unreal. People like that have never known insecurity. It makes them arrogant. Their personalties put a negative twist their features, in a way. Now that I wasn't pumped full of hormones and lusting after Jared, I could see that. Jared wasn't really my type. I really preferred the way that.......

Oh crap. What's this guy's name?

Oh god. Did I ..........have sex with this guy? I quickly answered my own thought - You're both naked, idiot. Do the math. Very good choice though.

Thing is, if I did, it would be my first time. And I couldn't remember it. Damn. At least no one knew, though - That I actually wanted to actually sleep with a guy, that is. One thing I did remember was being in the car with Andrea. Nothing happened with him in there, did it? No, I didn't - couldn't have. He was the one who was driving, and Andrea was in between us. I'm sure she was drunk too. Was he drunk? And driving? Was he crazy?

Arg! It's didn't matter if he was drunk when driving last night. I'm alive, aren't I? Focus! Point is - I had just had.......well........you know, for the first time with a guy I didn't know. I didn't even know his name. And I didn't remember  a thing.

This was pretty scary. What would I do when he woke up?

I don't think I've ever been so grateful for my room - and I had a really nice room. I had the pool house. That's how great my room was. Not exactly a really fancy poolhouse, but as a room, it kicked ass. It's a long story, how exactly I got it, but it boils down to a few basic points. We're a family of seven children - my mom got remarried when I was twelve, kind of a yours, mine and ours deal. I'm the third oldest, so you wouldn't expect me to be likely to get the poolhouse, but in this case, the two oldest are both girls of the same age - my sister and my stepsister. The parent's - fearing World War 3 would break out if either of them got it - decided that it would be best if it was given to me, instead. It wasn't hard to make up the their minds for them. I just had to slip in, flash a few of my good grades, drop hints that I wasn't as wild as the other two and it was pretty much guaranteed. I made my mom think that if either of them got it, they were likely to bring strange boys over in the night.

Ironic, really, considering my current situation.

But anyway, it was awesome. I got the cast-off kitchenware and furniture that they didn't have space for in the main house. I went completely DIY on the place. I painted, I put up curtain rails, I put the some of the broken cast-offs back together, I even fixed the steam-thing in the sauna shower, which wasn't working when I moved in. I even got a mini-fridge, to go with my mini-kitchen. It was great. I could stay up as late as I wanted, listen to loud music, play my guitar, watch movies on full volume - all without anyone ever complaining about the noise. I could even come home drunk at midnight with a total stranger. Eh-ehm.

So back to him. He did look vaguely familiar. I'm sure I knew him from somewhere else as well, not just last night. It was so hard to concentrate like this.I could practically dance to the rhythm of the throbbing in my head. His name, what was it? It began with an A, I think, or an E, or O. a U? Okay, it was some kind of vowel.

Suddenly some shrill sound made my brain feel like it was going to explode. I looked around for a few seconds, dazed. Then I realized my phone had started ringing. I looked around some more. Where was it?

I took me a few moments to find my jeans and grab the phone out of the back pocket. I quickly pushed the silent button and checked who it was. My mom. Great. I was just grateful she was too lazy to walk up and down the stairs every time she wanted to talk to me. I cleared my throat and answered.

"Hi" I still sounded croaky. I coughed and tried again. "Hi"

"Jay, we're going on an outing today," cames my mom's voice, fresh and awake. "I'm guessing you just woke up and don't want to come with."

Oh, yes. We always did outings. Since I was in my final year at school though, my mom had given me some slack and I could back out if I wanted to. And, trust me, I wanted to.

"Yes." I said quickly. A little bit too quickly. "Bye then."

"Wait! How was the party last night? I can practically smell the alcohol on your breath through the phone.  How's your head?" My mom shouted the last part and then sniggered.  She was pretty cool about stuff like that. I actually went to parties so rarely she almost encouraged me to go out and get drunk. The throbbing in my head doubled up in intensity.

"Not the best," I groaned. "Leave me alone. You can hear I'm in pain. Cruel woman."

"Oh, come on, sweetie. These are the best years of your life. Don't waste them. There's experience a-plenty out there. This is part of it." She laughed. "I've left you some money on the dining room table. Go out an buy yourself a nice, greasy breakfast. Love you, bye."

"Thanks," I grunted, and put down the phone.

I glanced over at the guy lying on my bed. I couldn't just leave him there all day, could I?

I didn't know what to do. What do you do when stuff like this happens? Maybe I should Google it.

"How much did I drink last night?" I groaned to myself. And why did I drink so much? Over Jared, over losing something that I never even had. Someone stupid, actually. Someone who used his looks a little bit too much. Someone who used people. Bastard.

"A hell of a lot." came a soft voice from my bed. "Twice as much as me. You should see someone about that. Get yourself into some kind of program, or something."

I had it coming. I had asked a few too many rhetorical question this morning. Serves me right that the first one I verbalized was answered. I was just shocked by who exactly was answering.

I turned around, speechless, and saw the guy, propping himself up on one elbow, smiling at me. He had deep blue eyes and a wide beautiful smile. He really distracted me. He was just staring at me, looking me up and down with this cocky grin on his face. I took me a few seconds to gather my thoughts. I didn't know what to say, so I just blurted out the most important and inappropriate thing I could think of.

"Did we really.......um.....?" I couldn't quite finish it. My throat felt very dry.

"Um, no, not exactly. We were going to, but you passed out." He blushed."That's why we're, um-"

"Oh Thank God." I let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Aw, come on, I'm not that bad." There was that smile again. "There's not something in my teeth, is there?"

"No." I laughed nervously. "Definitely not. It's just....um, I don't know how to say this, but.......I......don't exactly remember who you are." I grimaced and waited for it.

"Oh,ok....." He looked a bit hurt.

"I'm really sorry." I burst out. I really was. That look on his face. "I'm horrible with names. And I'm not a very good drunk."

"It's fine." He smiled again, that cocky grin that was just like Jared's, yet so much softer and more real. "Hi, I'm Eric." Eric! Thats it! "And just by the way, I think you're a great drunk." He winked at me. I laughed, half-genuinely and half-nervously.

"Um, hi. Jason." Awkward. Thank God I was to far way to shake his hand. I may have tried. I'm really pathetic when I'm nervous.

"I know." Okay. Clearly he wasn't as drunk as me last night.

"Should we go make some coffee or something?"

"Sure," He started getting up. He grabbed a pair of boxers that were lying next to the bed. "These aren't mine.." he said, looking up to me.

I looked down and realized the pair I was wearing wasn't mine. They were Calvin Klein boxer-briefs, or something like them them anyway.Something my budget definitely didn't allow.

"Oh, sorry." I blushed, "I can just take-"

"No, keep them on. It's sexy." He quickly slipped my bargain-bin boxers on and hopped out of bed. "Where's coffee?" He looked at my mini kitchen.

"Let's go to the main house, I'm out of milk here."

"Okay then" he said, we both began dressing. He picked his jeans off the floor and started pulling them on slowly. I pulled my eyes away and went to my cupboard and got dressed very quickly. He talked the whole time.

"The party last night was great, good turn out. Not much drama, either. Usually there's guys who want to cut each other up with their knives, you know - pretend like they're not wussy pampered private school kids, and girls who try to scratch each others' eyes out and throw each other in the pool, fighting over "Just who exactly that guy was winking at". Caitlin wouldn't let that happen though, not at her party, not in our -"  He stopped mid-sentence, looking around. "Damn. Can you see my shirt anywhere?"

"Um, no not really." My room was pretty open, and definitely not cluttered. Call it minimalism inspired by lack of cash. And a neurotic cleaning habit. If it was anywhere in my room, I would have seen it.

"That's okay. Can I borrow one of yours?"

"Okay. Sure." I grabbed one of my shirts out the cupboard and threw it to him.

"Nice. Very baggy though." He held it up.

I shrugged. I didn't know what to say. I always wear baggy stuff because I used to be fat. Well, not really fat, but bad enough for being uncomfortable with my body to become a habit. One that I still haven't shaken off, even though I got rid of the weight. I didn't quite want to mention it to someone who looked like he was born in a gym.

Anyway, he just put the shirt on, barely taking any further notice.

We walked down the outdoor wooden stairs that went into the main house. He didn't seem awed by the size of it when we went in. I was glad. I get annoyed telling people that I'm not rich, we just need the space to cram all the children in. It's what happens when you combine two formerly independent households. You get more of everything, family problems included.

He started making coffee like he lived there and went off chatting amiably again. I didn't hear a word and I didn't care that he was so comfortable in my house. I just told him I'd rather have tea than coffee, and sat down at the counter with my head in my arms. I looked up when the mug clinked down, and found a shot glass standing next to it, filled with what looked like water.

"Whats that?" I asked, looking at the shot glass dubiously.

"Vodka," He paused, looking at me expectantly.

"And?"

"Well, I saw how much of it you were drinking last night. This helps. Trust me. Hair from the dog that bit ya"

"Okay then" I said, trying to gulp it down before I could taste it. It didn't help. I grimaced as I put the glass down. "And I didn't drink that much." He raised an eyebrow. "Well, okay, fine, but it wasn't pure Vodka."

He laughed. It was a real full hearty laugh. Really natural.

"Whatever you say..." he said, grinning sweetly. My stomach did something funny, and I don't think it was the hangover. Let's blame those damn hormones again, but I wanted to jump on him.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, both just sipping at our steaming mugs. Awkward, once again. I'm really hopeless at this kind of thing. I was about to say something, when I was interrupted by the doorbell going off, followed by a stabbing pain in my head.

"I'll be right back. Don't move," I got up, gratefully, and went to see who it was.

As I approached the misted glass door, I could see a siloutte. It looked like a woman.

I opened the door, and was very shocked to find Andrea. She is my neighbor, sure, but she never just 'drops in'. She's probably only been to my house twice, once when we did group-work, and again when she needed help for the Biology exam. I wondered what she wanted now. I stepped outside, and closed the door behind me.

"Jason!" She said in a high-pitched voice that drilled right through my skull. She always greets me like that. I don't know how that started - it's not really as if we're best friends who have a "special greeting"-thing, but it's been going on for almost as long as I've known her. I think I mocked her about it one day and it became a running gag.

She was wearing a pink track suit and cross trainers, with an i-pod hung around her neck and her blond hair tied back into a neat pony tail. She smiled broadly. Andrea has the most infectious smile ever, it just seems to spread across her whole face.  She just makes you want to laugh every time she flashes those gleaming teeth at you. The effect was altogether annoyingly and overwhelmingly cheerful. She looked like she had just stepped out of some sports magazine ad.

"Andrea." I groaned, with slightly less enthusiasm than the tradition called for. "How are you?"

"I'm good," She said, smiling from ear to ear. "But how are you? How was last night?"

"Andrea, we came home from the party together, remember?"

"Oh, I know. I'm talking about your second party" She winked knowingly. My blood went cold.

"What?" I said very stiffly. My heart was beating in my ears.

"You and Eric." She half-whispered, looking around. It was all very conspiratorial. In other circumstances, I would have laughed at her for it. "Oh, Calm Down! It's not like I'll tell anyone! Do I ever gossip? Come on. You know me..."

I was speechless. I took a while for me to make any sounds come out of my mouth.

"H.....ho.....how did you know?"

"Oh, well, Eric said he had to get you to your room, then I told him it was up all those stairs, then he said he'd have to help you, then I said I was fine, because we were parked right there anyway, and I'm not exactly so helpless I can't walk to my own front door." She paused quickly for breath "And then, after he took you, I looked around the corner, you know, over there where you can see the pool framed by those beautiful banana trees, and I saw you two kissing and ....um.... rubbing each other..........against your door."

I just stared at her. She kept talking.

"Of course I knew Eric was... you know. You, I wasn't so sure about, but I had my suspicions. I mean, remember when you tutored me. You had me alone in your room, and you didn't try anything. Come on, what kind of guy wouldn't? It was me! At the time, I thought you were a gentleman, but after seeing you two last night..." She trailed off and giggled at her joke.

"My my. Aren't we humble." I was getting brash now, annoyed at the fact that she found the whole thing so funny. "How do you know Eric?"

"Oh, don't you know? He's Caitlin's brother. Or something like that. He lives with her, and-"

"What!?"

Andrea carried on, ignoring my interruption.

"Oh, yes, step brother, thats the one. His mother is the latest wife, or something like that. Oops. Oh right. Sorry. Not gossiping. Caitlin just talks about it a lot. She really doesn't like- You okay?"

I was leaning against the door. This was a lot of information to take in. Especially this early on the morning. Especially with my head buzzing like it was. Okay, so Eric's the step brother. Ha. Wow. This was interesting.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I shook my head. Not a good move. When the world stopped wobbling, I spoke again. "Just a lot of information. I keep forgetting that you're friends with her. Like she's a normal human capable of stuff like emotions and friendship...."

Andrea burst out laughing.

"Come on, she's not that bad. So, anyway, what happened? Can we go inside? What are we, cave people?" She started to push past me.

I stayed leaning against the door.

"No. He's kind of still here...."

"You. Little. Slut! Wow, I never thought I'd call a guy that-"

"Thanks, I never thought I'd be called that"

"-but if the shoe fits. How could you?! What'd you say to your family?!"

"They went out. They don't know anything. And would you PLEASE calm down!? Nothing happened! I passed out, okay? You may have noticed how drunk I was."

"Yes," she said, with a little chuckle. "Well then, what are you waiting for? Get in there! Do something!"

I stared at her in disbelief.

"Andrea, sweetie," I said, lacing my words with as much sarcasm as I could muster this early in the morning. She must have known I meant business. I'm not the kind of person who uses words like 'sweetie'. "Please don't say stuff like that. Ever! Now, I am going back inside to tell him to go home. Please leave. And if you value your life, you'll be quiet."

She burst out giggling. I had to wait a while for her to stop.

"Okay. Suuuure. Tell him to leave then." She threw around her arms around me and squeezed tight. "Eric's a really great guy" She said into my ear. "And really hot too. Just go for it. He's totally into you too."

"Okay, fine. Thanks. Get off of me. You know you're a wannabe fag-hag, right?"

She just laughed, and pulled back, grinning like and idiot again. She walked down the steps, looked at me one last time and suddenly just started jogging down the road again. "Good Luck!" she shouted, before she turned the corner and disappeared from sight.

I sighed deeply. Now I just had to deal with Eric.

I walked back to the kitchen. I smiled. He had finished his coffee, and had rinsed out his cup and put it in the drying rack. I poured out the rest of my tea and did the same, even though I'm not usually so considerate. It was...really sweet, the way he'd just done that. Without thinking about it.

I walked through to the lounge, and found him sitting on the couch, staring out the window at the garden, lost in thought and looking as sexy as hell. I cleared my throat to let him know I was there.

"Oh, Hi. Who was it? You were out there forever."

"It was Andrea. She had some...... things to discuss."

"She knew."

"Yes. How did you-"

"She knows I'm gay." He smirked. "And you were hardly subtle last night in the car."

"She saw us by my door....."

"Oh, really? She was probably just making sure. You watch her, she's turned on by the whole thing." He laughed.

"Great....." I sighed and sat down next to him. He turned around on the couch so that he was facing me. He was..... So close. My thoughts got a little bit fuzzy. And it wasn't the hangover.

"Come on," he said soothingly, "It's Andrea. She won't tell."

"No, it's not that. It's just..... a lot to deal with..."

"What do you mean?" He looked concerned. It was....sweet. Again. This was becoming a little bit more than I could handle.

"I just.......I don't......I haven't been with a guy before." I paused, " I haven't been with anyone before-"

"You could have fooled me last night....." He winked at me and burst out laughing. I also started to laugh, and eventually we were sitting there, giggling like girls and looking into each other's eyes. Before I knew what was happening, he was kissing me, and I was kissing him back. It was so....intense. I felt like my heart would stop. I felt like I couldn't breath. I had the whole of Butterfly World fluttering around my stomach. This was, effectively, my first real kiss. The one I could, and definitely would, remember. The one I would never forget. I felt his rank breath on my face. Morning breath mixed with coffee. Yum. We we're both a bit stubbly and scratching each other as we went at it. My head was spinning. But I felt his lips against mine, before his tongue brushed my lips and found it's way into my mouth, massaging my tongue. I felt his arms around me. I felt his heartbeat where my hand had fallen against his chest. It was glamorous and unglamorous. It was a fantasy, but at the same time it was so real. It was amazing, and I didn't want it to end.

But it did. Somehow, I didn't mind though. There was plenty of time later for a second kiss. And a third and a fourth and a fifth. And many more. I could wait. It was definitely worth waiting for.

He looked into my eyes and started to speak slowly. I took my brain a few moments to piece together what he was saying. My thoughts were still reeling from the kiss.

"Jason, I really like you. You're smart, funny. A bit highly strung, sure-"

"Hey!" I put both my hands on his chest and pushed him, not too annoyed to notice how defined his pecs were.

He laughed and held up his hands.

"Joking. Joking. All I'm saying is I really like you. I want to see where this goes.. And I hope you do too."

I laughed dryly.

"If I didn't like you, I would probably still see this through - out of desperation. But, seeing as I'm head-over-hills with what I can only assume a school girl crush must feel like, I'll see this one through anyway, and take the rest as bonus."

Then I stopped having an in-my head moment of truth, and said something more acceptable. Maybe I should have said it. It was a sweet thing to say, in a dry, dusty, sarcastic kind of way. But I didn't want any misunderstandings. I would be more careful.

"I....like you too. I also really want to see what happens." I smiled, and he put his arms around me again and kissed me, once again setting off the whole chain reaction.

"Okay," He said, beaming at me. "I'm really sorry, but I have to go now. I need to get back home."

"What, before Caitlin wakes up?" I was a bit miffed now. What kind of guy tells you he like you then just suddenly says he has to go.

"Oh, so Andrea mentioned that?"

"Uh-huh." I waited for him to speak.

"Well, yes, but not before she wakes up. God himself couldn't be around before then. She's one of those 'early-birds'. You know, so she can capture the worm and flay it alive"

I laughed. He paused and waited for me to stop.

"I lock my door, and I usually only wake up at about twelve, well, when I'm not waking up naked in someone else's bed," he winked at me, making me break into a smile. "I can get in through my outside door, and she won't know the difference."

"Okay. Well then you better get going." I said, bemused. I still wasn't so sure what would happen. We got up and made our way to the door.

"Why do you need to fool her?" I asked when we reached it.

"What?" He seemed to snap out of thought, "Oh, she's very honor-bound. For some reason she's seems to think that my mom and her dad ration out discipline in set amounts. So if she gets me into trouble, then she's got more room for movement. It seems to work too. We both do it a lot."

"Why don't you just rat on her about the party then?"

"Because I like parties. It was sort of a treaty. And besides, it was her birthday. The 'rents knew some kinda party was going on, even if they didn't exactly know about the whole underage drinking thing. Too hard to rat on that one. I pick my battles. Okay, I really need to go now. I'm pushing the time limit really late."

"Oh, fine" I said half-jokingly,"Love me and leave me then." I grabbed him by the collar and kissed him again. Violently. Well enough for both of us to remember for a while. He walked down the few steps. On the last one, he turned back and smiled at me. My heart jumped.

As he was about to get into his car, which I noticed was parked on the edge of Andrea's property - relief from something I had forgot to even worry about - I called out to him. At least my parents wouldn't suspect anything.

"Wait," I shouted,"You don't have my number."

"You gave it to me last night," He grinned, "Before I realized I was your lift home." With that, he got in his car and drove off, waving just before he disappeared around the corner.

I stood there for a while after he left, just looking around. The trees seemed greener, the sky bluer. The birdsong didn't even annoy me.

On the way back up to my room, I saw Eric's top lying in the bushes. I quickly grabbed it and took it with me to my room. I had a stupid moment and held it up to my face and smelled it, but it reeked of cigarette smoke and alcohol. Parties will do that to your clothes. I threw it in my laundry-basket. I'd give it to him later. Then, suddenly, I realized I was still wearing Eric's underwear. I also realized that I too thought thought the whole swapping thing was sexy.

I flopped down on my bed and lay there perfectly still. Just thinking.

Quite a morning I've been having. My carefully constructed closet had just suffered it's first blow from Andrea. My long held virginity is still safe, although not for long, if I have a say in the matter. I have some sort of mutual attraction going on with a great, sexy, funny, smart guy. Life........ is......... complicated.

Life is Great.........

I smiled broadly and buried my face in a pillow.

Note from Author: Sorry, once again, for the long wait. I've just been so busy. School holidays are coming up for me soon though, so with any luck I'll  have more time for writing. Thanx to everyone who's been reading with me from the start, your complements and advice have been great. Compliments, need I remind you, are always welcome. Criticisms, while slightly less pleasurable, are still important. I hate to say it, but I'm thinking of ending this story. Don't worry, I will be writing other stories - I've already started writing one - but this has been a great first time for me and I don't want to ruin that by dragging it out too long. I'll probably be writing two more installments of this before I veer off to another story. For my fans, (If I have any) I'll put the name of the next story in one of my next notes, as soon as I've posted it.

Next: Chapter 7
