When Sam had walked back into the Glee room at McKinley High, everyone had met him with smiles and open arms. But Sam had quickly noticed that when not in the presence of other Glee members, Artie was cold to him. Sam had made a few attempts at conversation with Artie, but he would just say "Hi" and then wheel away. Sam and Artie had a special connection before Sam and his family had moved to Kentucky. They had enjoyed each others company and had also enjoyed each others bodies on several occasions. The fact that Artie was now giving him the cold shoulder made Sam sad and a little mad. He decided he had to talk to Artie. Alone.

Sam waited outside of Artie's house until Artie's parents had left. When Sam was sure they would be alone in the house, Sam rang Artie's doorbell.

Artie opened the door to see Sam. His expression was hard for Artie to read. He felt like in a way Artie was glad to see him and in a way, he was angry.

"Hi Sam, what can I do for you?" Artie said in a monotone.

"Can I come in?" Sam said. He had his hands in his from jean pockets with his shoulders pushed up, giving him a child like look. This was exaggerated by Sam's baby face. In fact, if Sam wasn't so very fit, one might mistake him for a 12 year old.

Artie shrugged and said, "Sure" before turning around and wheeling back into the house, leaving the door open behind him for Sam to walk through. Sam followed him in and shut the door behind him. Sam had hoped that Artie would be glad to see him, but that didn't seem to be the case. Sam felt a little angry and went right for it. "So Artie, why are you being a dick to me at school?" Sam's voice was filled with rage and a little pain. Clearly his feelings were hurt.

Artie turned to face him. "I don't know what you mean." Artie was still pulling punches. Artie was being obtuse on purpose and it made Sam even madder. "Well, we spent all this time together and shared a lot, and I did things with you I never did before, and now I'm back and you won't talk to me." Had Artie been listening closely enough, he would have heard that Sam had moved beyond mad and was almost in tears. But Artie couldn't hear Sam's tone because his own blood was raging in his ears. He interrupted Sam, "You left!" Artie screamed. Sam got quiet. He had never heard Artie even raise his voice. Artie's face was instantly red. "Yes, we spent time together and we did things, and I thought we were friends, and you left. You didn't even tell me! I had to find out from your Facebook status! And you never called or emailed or anything the whole time you were in Kentucky! If I was your friend you would

have let me know how you were doing! You made it pretty clear that..." but this time it was Artie that was interrupted. Sam burst into tears and collapsed to his knees in front of Artie.

"Please don't.....be...mad at me....Artie," Sam was almost blubbering with his face buried in Artie's lap. This emotional outburst from Sam had shut Artie up. Seeing Sam cry was kind of uncomfortable for Artie and he instantly felt bad for yelling. Sam put his arms around Artie's torso and put his face against Artie's chest and continued to cry..."I didn't mean to hurt you. When we moved I was devastated and I was so confused about you and me that I didn't know what to say. And I was too embarrassed about what I was doing to talk to you...." Artie put his hands on the sides of Sam's head and spoke quietly. "It's ok Sam. Don't cry. I'm sorry I yelled. I guess I was upset too." The two spoke quietly for a few moments until Sam had calmed down and regained his composure. At Artie's urging, Sam got up out of the floor and they went to Artie's bedroom where Same sat on the edge of the bed. Artie went

to the kitchen and fetched Sam a soda which he took a swig of and dried his tears on his shirt. Artie couldn't help but notice Sam's rock hard abs under his shirt. The two sat quietly for a few moments. Sam was embarrassed for the outburst, but Artie was clearly not mad at him anymore, so Sam seemed in a small way content.

"What did you mean you where embarrassed by what you were doing?" Artie said finally.

Sam's face got red again and he looked at the floor, "I kind of am afraid to tell you."

Artie was confused. He wheeled closer to Sam and put his hand on Sam's red cheek, "You can tell me."

Sam was quiet for a few more moments and then he spoke quietly, "We had to move to Kentucky because my dad got a new job. But we were so in debt at first that we just couldn't keep up. I started looking for work. I got a job at a Dairy Queen but I was making almost nothing. So I got a job at a club.....for women. I was dancing..." Artie smiled. "That's not so bad" Artie said. "You have a great body, why not show it off!". Sam didn't smile back, which concerned Artie. "There is more." Sam whispered. "I was making ok money with tips and stuff, and it was almost fun, but I just wasn't making enough money. We still owed like thousands." Sam started to tear up again, so Artie quickly picked himself up out of his chair and swung himself onto the bed. As he situated himself next to Sam, he put his arm around Sam's broad shoulders. Sam smiled a little and put his hands around Artie. The two lay back

in the bed. Artie lay on his back and Sam laid his head down on Artie's chest. Artie couldn't see Sam's face as he continued to speak. He got the feeling Sam didn't want him to.

"So one Friday I had worked last at the club, tips had been good but we needed like $200 bucks more just to make the rent. So I'm headed to my car and this guy comes up to me in the lot. He said he had seen me dancing and I looked good. I didn't know what to think. You occasionally saw a guy inside, but not usually. I didn't know what to say, so I told him thanks. Then he asked if I'd like to make some extra cash. I was kind of scared but I did, so I said yes. I asked him what I'd have to do."

Artie knew where this was going, but he didn't know what to say, so he just continued to pet Sam's hair.

"He said to follow him. I didn't want to, he was old. Like 40. And he seemed kind of dirty. But I needed the money. So I followed him into the alley. At first he just wanted to see it. He said he'd give me $50 just to see it, so I unzipped my pants and showed him. Then he said to get it hard. I jerked off a little and when I was hard he said he wanted to suck it, but I said no, and he said he would give me another $50."

Sam got quiet again for a few moments. Artie was about to speak when Sam said softly, "We needed the money for rent."

Artie squeezed Sam tight and Sam was almost in tears again. "I couldn't stay hard because I was so scared and ashamed and the guy was creepy and the alley....so the guy says....did I bottom...and I said no way and started to pull up my pants, but he says he will give me $200 if he can fuck me."

Artie was horrified by what Sam had been through, but Sam kept talking, as if he needed to say these things out load for the first time.

Sam was whispering now, "and $200 was what we needed for the rent. So I said, did he have a condom. He said he did. And I said, cash up front.....So I bend over a garbage can and he puts himself inside. It hurt so much Artie. He wasn't all that big, but it hurt so much, I wanted to cry, but not in front of him, and somehow I managed no to. He finished pretty fast and as he was taking the condom off he said I was worth every penny. "

Artie hugged Sam tight and moved his head around so he could look at him. Sam looked so ashamed. "That's why I didn't call you. I couldn't tell you what I was doing. What I had turned into...." As Sam cried, Artie spoke softly. "You that stuff for your family....you are a hero....and I respect you so much Sam." Sam buried his face in Artie's chest again, this time, not in sadness, but in relief. Sam had needed so desperately for someone to tell him that he wasn't a bad person for the things he had done. Artie had absolved him.

Artie and Sam didn't have sex that night. They lay quietly for a while, and then talked for an hour or more about everything and nothing. It was clear that Sam felt so much better and Artie did too. Finally Sam headed for the door but Artie called back to him, "Hey Sam." Sam paused and turned back, "I'm really glad your back."
