As We Lay: Separate Ways
"Morning, sunlight shines across your sleeping face. A new day brings reality and we must go our separate ways."

Justin tried to move. He felt a face pressed against his chest. He looked down and saw a head of dark hair resting on his chest.
"Josh..." Justin whispered.
JC didn't move. He had the sweetest smile plastered on his face. He sighed in his sleep and clutched onto Justin tighter.
Justin squirmed. He replaced himself with the pillow he had been laying on. JC frowned noticibly. Justin knelt down and placed a kiss on JC's cheek bringing a smile to his face again.
Justin walked over to the bathroom and turned the water on. He peered across the hallway to see JC lying on his bed, sheets barely covering his nude body. He smiled. He looked in the mirror and sighed at his reflection.
"Britney." Justin whispered, remembering what he and JC had done. Remembering what he and JC had shared.
Justin dragged himself into the shower. He cleaned off his memories of the previous night as he thought about JC. His JC.
JC let him make love to him and it was better than anything that he and Britney had ever done. Light years better. Beyond light years better. And as wrong as it was for them to do what they did it felt extremely right. Being intimate with JC felt extremely right. But he had Britney. So what was he going to do about JC.
JC was still asleep when Justin got out. He quickly dressed wanting to leave before JC woke up. He knew it was going to be hard to leave if JC was awake. He gathered up his things, shoving them into a few grocery bags he had grabbed from JC's kitchen.
He walked back into JC's room and pulled the covers up over him. Justin gently rubbed his back while JC slept on. He leaned down and placed a kiss on JC's cheek. He straightened up and headed towards the door. He paused in the doorway and turned around.
"I'll call you sometime, Josh. I... I love you."
Justin quickly turned back and made his way out of the apartment. He jumped in his Mercedes and drove off. His eyes stayed fixed on JC's door half hoping for him to come running out after him. It didn't happen.
Britney. Britney. Britney. What was he going to do about Britney? Was he going to tell her? Was he going to stay with her? Of course he was going to stay with her. He couldn't leave her. They were too good together. He'd stay with Britney.
JC. But JC was on his mind. What they did. What he didn't know they could have. JC was on his mind. Was he going to leave it at a one night stand? One night of the most passionate sex he had ever had with anyone period. Could he bring himself to do that to JC, his best friend, his Josh?
A horn blared at him bringing him out of thought. He moved his car back into his own lane as the driver or a red civic drove by and flipped him off.
Why was he going back to Tampa? Why was he going back to Britney? He lost himself in thought again as he drove. Another car honked as he drifted out of his lane again.
Justin reached over and turned his radio on to take his mind off of everything. An accident was the last thing he needed.
When JC awoke Justin was long gone. He sat up in his bed clutching onto the pillow he had believed to be Justin.
Just like that. Justin left without waking him up. Justin left without saying goodbye. Just left without kissing him goodbye. Justin left without making love to him one more time. Justin left.
JC slowly got up. He dragged himself to the bathroom wincing with every step. The soreness from his and Justin's lovemaking hung over him. He smiled as he climbed into the shower.
Justin. It felt so right being with Justin. With Justin he felt complete. With Justin he felt more than complete. He couldn't describe it. But why didn't Justin feel that same feeling.
JC frowned as he got out of the shower. He slowly towelled off still wincing from the pain. After getting dressed he managed to drag himself into the kitchen for a late breakfast.
He poured himself a bowl of cereal and set it on the table. JC pulled out a chair and sat uncomfortably in front of his bowl. He started munching, forgetting to pour milk to go with the cereal. Slowly he stood up and made his way to the fridge. A note on the door caught his attention.
Dear Josh,
I'm sorry to leave you like this. I knew it would have been harder for me to leave if you were awake. I'm sorry. What we did last night was really special and I'll always remember and hold it dear. Thank you. I've never experienced that kind of magic.
Josh, I love you. But I have Britney. I don't know what to do. But I wanted you to know that. I want you to know that I didn't use you. I want you to know that there was alot of feeling behind what we did last night. But I have Britney. I'm sorry.
If it means anything... I still value our friendship beyond anything I'll ever have with Britney. And if I had not been with Britney then you would definitely be the one. You're my best friend, why couldn't you also be my lover? But I have Britney. I'm sorry.
Know always that I'll always love you even if we're not together. Please don't ever forget the night that we shared where everything was right. Everything was right. And know that there will always be a special place in my heart just for you. I love you.
Love,
Justin Randall Timberlake
JC wiped the tears from his eyes as he finished the note. He sat back down in front of his dry bowl of cereal and reread it again and again and again.
Justin loved him. But Justin couldn't be with him. But Justin loved him none the less. And Justin had Britney. Or was it that Britney had Justin?
He stared at the paper again. JC stood and walked over to his room. He laid back down on the bed still holding the note. He picked up his cordless and dialed.
