Okay you all know the routine if you ain't supposed to read this don't. If you do don't get caught. If male to male affection and or sex bothers you get lost. There isn't any sex in this part and probably won't be any for a while. This story is going to deal with being outed in high school, gay bashing, suicide and other intense themes (If my writing is up to it ) This is fiction it isn't true some scenes are based on my own experiences with names changed to protect the guilty. Any comments will be welcome pistonpolisher@webtv.net

The Ballad Of JT

Chapter One

By Pete Roholt

I'm not sure what happened. Jimmy and I had been out like many times before. After the movie we had went to park at a very secluded spot, we had never seen anyone around there before. We were making out and all of a sudden all hell broke loose.

I heard someone shout "Christ it's a couple of fags."

In less than a minute I had my truck started and we took off as fast as we could. We never saw who it was that caught us. We drove around for a long time trying to calm down. Finally I stopped behind my dad's shop, he has the John Deere implement in town, and we tried to talk.

"Oh God, we're gonna get killed," Jimmy said. Then he started crying.

I put my arms around him and held him telling him, "It'll be alright, as long as we're together it will be alright." I was as scared as he was, but I couldn't let him see that. Eventually we decided to go home and just take a wait and see attitude.

Oh I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is John Thomas Clark IV, but everyone calls me JT. I am sixteen, six foot, blonde hair, brown eyes.

My boyfriend is Jimmy O'brien and he is fifteen five foot eight inches, brown hair, hazel green eyes.

We live in a small town in North Dakota. I couldn't imagine being accepted by our peers let alone our parents.

The next morning, sunday, I went to church with my folks as usual. For about the zillionth time I wished that Jimmy and I went to the same church as I sure would like to have seen him. After church my parents and I went out to dinner and finally we went home. I was very quiet and withdrawn. Mom and Dad kept pestering me wondering if something was wrong, but of course I couldn't tell them. I tried to make excuses, but nothing seemed to help. Eventually I was able to go to my room where I tried to sleep. I had just fallen into a restless slumber when the phone rang, I have a private line in my room for use with my computer.

"Hello?" I said.

"JT, how are you doing?"

"God, Jimmy am I glad to hear your voice. I miss you."

"I miss you too, babe."

"How are you standing up?"

"I don't know, I think my folks know something is wrong.'' Jimmy said.

"Yeah mine too. Dad kept asking me if I was okay all through dinner."

"Do you think this is going to be all over school tomorrow?"

"Yeah I'm afraid so." I replied.

"What are we going to do? My Dad will kill me if he finds out."

"We will just have to deal with it as it happens. I don't know what else we could do."

"I wish you were here holding me," Jimmy said, "I am so afraid."

We talked for about an hour then said good night. I tried to get everything settled in my head, but too many thoughts were going around. I was getting a real bad headache so I took two tylenol's and lay down. Next thing I know my alarm clock started to ring. I got up and took a quick shower, dressed and went upstair to have breakfast.

"Hi Ma what's for breakfast?"

"Oatmeal, toast and O J," My Mom replied.

"Why can't we have bacon, eggs and hash brown once in a while?" I asked.

"If you want a big breakfast get up a little earlier and you fix it. Now be quiet and eat." She grinned.

Mom she always put me in my place, but I know she loved me. "I wonder if she'll love me when she knows the truth" I thought.

After I ate I took my dishes to the sink and gave my Mom a hug, "Thanks for breakfast Mom, you make a mean bowl of gruel."

She snapped me with a towel and yelled, "Have a nice day at school."

I got out to my truck and drove over to Jimmy's to pick him up. As usual he wasn't outside waiting for me so I just walked right in.

"Hi Mrs. O'brien." I said.

"Hi JT," she replied. "Do you know what is wrong with Jimmy? He has been acting strange since sunday."

"No ma'am," I lied.

"Well could you talk to him JT, you might be able to find out what's going on, I haven't been able to."

"I'll try, ma'am." I said.

"You're such a good boy and such a good influence on my Jimmy." She said.

At that remark I could feel myself start to blush, "If only you knew" I thought.

Just then Jimmy came charging down the stairs.

"C'mon JT I'm late." He said.

"So I noticed," I grinned, "but then again your always late."

"Bye, Mrs. O'brien," I said.

"You boys have a nice day," she called after us.

It being daylight we didn't dare kiss, but as soon as I shut my door Jimmy grabbed my hand and said, " I love you."

"I love you too," I replied.

We didn't talk much on the way to school. Each of us were lost to our own thoughts.

After we arrived at school. "Jimmy," I said, "if you have any problems today come find me. I won't let anyone hurt you."

"Thanks," he replied. "I sure wish I could kiss you."

"Me too, babe."

It wasn't bad at first. I didn't hear anything until about third period. Then the whispering started. I did my best to just ignore them, telling myself that they were bigots and morons and that god loved me no matter who I slept with.

Walking through the hallways to lunch after fourth period is when it got rough. The insults were getting louder and louder.

"Faggot."

"Fudge Packer."

"Queer."

"Fruit Cake."

"Hey Cocksucker I got something here for you."

"Fuckin' Nancy boy."

It was like running the gauntlet. Even while I was in the lunchroom it never stopped. I sat at my regular table waiting for Jimmy and none of my other friends would sit with me. I waited for a long time and Jimmy never showed, so I went looking for him.

Still the insults kept coming at me. I went to the gym knowing that Jimmy's last class before dinner was there and didn't find anyone. I had just turned to leave when someone turned out the lights. Next thing I knew someone had pulled a blanket over my head and had my arms pinned to my body. Then I heard someone say in a disguised voice "You're going to die now faggot."

After that pain...
