Because of Drew - Chapter 26
I went into the hospital waiting room. I had nowhere else to go, I didn't even know where I was, how far away from the house I happened to be. The house, that Drew and I were supposed to share.
Nothing made sense to me anymore. My head felt like it was spinning, and I got a visit from a friendly face, none other than Brit.
"Hey, how are you holding up?" she asked.
"Well, my fiancee doesn't remember who I am. How in the hell would you feel? I have been crying for the last 15 minutes, just because I don't know if there is any way to actually be with him again." I cried.
"I know. I understand. Well, actually no, I have no idea what you are going through." she said.
"Yep." was all I could say. "I really don't feel like talking right now, but I need to get back to the house, then get back to my apartment."
"Why back to the apartment? Your job is out here?" she asked.
"Not sure, but if he doesn't remember me, then how will he be able to help me pay for a house that I alone cannot afford. I will just see if I can get my job back at..." I almost said, and I was cut off.
"You will not. You should come and live with Nick and myself." she told me.
"No, I think that you guys should actually take Drew back to your house. Since he will not remember me, he probably doesn't remember the house, or anything." I told her.
"Valid point. Are you sure that you will be okay?" she asked.
"No. I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get through this either. Just, don't try to make him remember. Sometimes amnesia wears off, and sometimes is takes a while, sometimes it doesn't. I had no idea that this was going to happen, and I wish that it didn't, but it has. And now, I have to live with that." I ranted.
"All right, well, we will keep in contact. Nick is calling me, so I will see you soon, okay?" she said.
"Yeah, okay." I said, and she left.
I just sat there, trying not to think about what had happened. Albeit hard, I just couldn't stop thinking about what would have been different. Well, for one, he would be dead, and I wouldn't be able to rest for ever, but now I haven't any powers, and he doesn't remember me. So, now I have nothing.
"What happened?" I heard a familiar voice say. It was none other than the first witch I met. Someone from high school. My first ever crush. A lot of descriptive, I know, but Jason was hot, and only got hotter after these past 4 years.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Well, I am kind of in over my head with some things, magically speaking, and when I try to find someone who has been at it for longer than I have, meaning you, your powers seem to have gone off of my radar. Something smells a little fishy to me, and I don't mean this stupid hosiptal food either." he ranted.
"Okay, do you want the short version, or the long version?" I asked him.
"Give me the short version. I don't exactly have much time here." he stated.
"Okay, I fell in love with a guy, yes a guy, never told you that part either, and he recently passed on, so I gave up my powers in order to save his life. Plain and simple." I said, and he, during that little speech, found time to sit down, and his mouth was hanging open in shock.
"Then, where is he now?" he asked, and I was a little surprised that he was so cool with it.
"Well, that was a side effect of the spell. He lost all memory of me." I said, and I felt tears welling up again.
"Do you have somewhere a little more private that we could go?" he asked.
"Yeah, can you still read thoughts?" I asked.
"Of course, remember, its how I found you out all that time ago." he said.
"Then take my hands, and let my thoughts guide you to where I am supposed to be now." I said, and he did, and we got back to the house.
"This place is nice." he said.
"Thanks, I picked it out, but I cannot afford it by myself. That is one of the reasons that I decided to move out here, because I thought that the two of us together could afford it." I said.
"Who have you been going with that could afford this?" he asked.
"Look around, there are pictures of us everywhere." I stated, and he slowly turned around the room. All sorts of pictures of Drew and I, the rest of the group, everyone smiling and happy.
"Drew Lachey? The absolute hottest member of...oops." he said.
"You know, I actually thought you were too, but never actually thought to try anything." I said.
"Yeah, well, now the cat is out of the bag. How come you never told me, we weren't exactly enemies back in school." he said.
"Well, we weren't exactly friends either, you are one of those people that I would consider an acquaintance. Talked occasionaly, but no more." I stated.
"Good point, although, I must say, that you have gotten mighty fine these past 4 years." he commented.
"Thanks, you don't look so bad yourself. Although, I am pretty sure that you have some stud waiting for you back wherever you are living now." I said.
"Actually no, I have been trying to keep this all a secret from everyone." he told me.
"Secret safe with me, although, my cousins will be crushed, they thought you were hot too." I told him.
"And I remember them too, and actually ran into them recently, and can I just say, wow!" he said.
"Yep, so anyways, do you want to know everything about Drew and I, or just the cliff notes version?" I asked him.
"Well, now that you know about me, I want every little detail." he said.
"Okay, but know this, I may not be able to make it through this story without crying my eyes out." I said.
And so the rest of the night went on, as I gave him a full recount of what had been going on between Drew and myself, and we stayed up talking until just about dawn. I never actually realized how long we have been together until I recited the whole story. I found myself crying a couple of times throughout the night, but was able to keep it together for Jason.
"And that is the whole of it. You are as well versed as my memory is allowed to remember things." I said.
"WOW, I never thought in a million years that Drew would be gay, let alone wanting the same things that only some gay guys ever dream of." he said.
"I know, and it was great while it lasted. But, I just have this feeling that Drew will probably never get his memory back. I think this is what my mother would call 'punishment for turning my back on catholocism', and I am starting to believe that she is right." I said.
"Don't believe that, don't ever think that. I know that you are feeling something strong for him, and all that God ever wants for her children is to be happy in love." he told me.
"Thank you J. Now, you having magic problems?" I asked.
"Yeah, do you still have that book?" he asked.
"Yeah, I haven't done anything with it. In fact, it has gotten quite big since we have seen each other last." I said as I started to fish it out.
I fashioned it into the Book of Shadows from "Charmed". And since I no longer had a need for it, "Here. You take it. I don't have any powers, so, I have no need for it anymore."
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Yeah, the less I think about it, the more I can focus on work, since that is pretty much all I have left." I said.
"No, I have a feeling that you will be needing this. Just hold onto it for a week. If you do not open it, or find any use for it, then you can call for me, and I will take it." he told me.
"Okay, fine." I said. I put it away, and turned to face him one last time. "Well, I guess I will be seeing you around?" I asked.
"You know it." he said to me, and with that said, he leaned in, and kissed me. "Bye!"
I just stood there shocked. Never did I imagine that that would have happened!
