The Beginning Of The End, Chapter 1
"Clay, wake up dude."
I opened my eyes and saw a figure shaking me trying to wake me up. I looked up and saw who it was.
"Leave me alone!!!" I moaned trying to go back to sleep. Suddenly I felt my blankets get pulled off me and I was suddenly exposed wearing only my blue stripped boxers. I got up and looked straight into the eyes of my best friend.
His name is Joshua. He is sixteen years old like myself. Josh and I go way back. See, when I was about eight years old my mother died in a plane crash. No one still knows what happened but I know that day I would never be the same again. That was until I met Josh. Once my mother died it was just me, my dad, and my little brother. My dad couldn't stand staying in the house we had. He said it reminded him too much of my mother. I don't blame him. I mean everything in that house she either painted or had a part in the decorating of it.
One picture in particular always caught my eye. That was a picture my mom drew for me. It was a picture of me when I was about four years old. The way my mother drew me was just amazing. She drew it in all black and white using different types of styles. One man from her working place even saw the picture and offered her over half a million dollars for it, but she refused and told the man that painting was for her son, me.
So we ended up selling our 5-bedroom/4 bath house and moved to the eastern side of California, where we bought a 4-bedroom house with 3 bathrooms. Our new house was almost identical to a few other's on the same block including the house right next door to us. As we pulled into the driveway, standing outside of our house was a man who looked to be around the same age as my father, a lady who reminded me a lot of my mother, and a boy who looked to be around the same age as me.
As we got out of the car my dad introduced the people standing in our driveway to my brother and me as his best friend from college and his family. I couldn't help but keep my eyes on the boy. His blue eyes reminded me so much of my mother's it started to make me cry.
"Daddy, why is he crying?" The boy asked his father pointing at me. "Joshua, the boy over there is Clayton. He just lost his mother son," his father said in a whisper that a could barely hear.
"Josh honey, why don't you go play with Clayton, while you're father and I help his family move in?" his mother suggested pushing him towards me. And with that everyone from the two families, except Joshua and me, headed into the house.
Then Joshua did something that shocked me. He came up to me and grabbed me into a big hug and he held me tight. And as he did this he began to cry as well. "Why are you crying?" I asked pulling away from him. "Because, you're crying..." He said wiping the tears away from his face, with that we both began to cry. Ever since that day Josh and I have been best friends. He was my hero.
Through the years whenever I needed someone, he was there for me. No matter what the problem was he was there always watching after me. Even at school when the bigger kids tried to pick on me he always fought for me, kind of like my guardian angel.
There was this one day about a month after my mother died, I was in my bed and Joshua was sleeping in the spare bed in my room. I was having a dream about my mother and I woke up screaming and then crying. This woke up Joshua and he ran over to me jumped into my bed and held me. Feeling him hold me made me feel so safe. He made me feel as if I could do anything just by feeling his touch. Right as he held me I drifted back to sleep with a smile on my face knowing that my best friend was sleeping next to me holding me.
So now Joshua standing at 5'10" and weighing about 165 pounds. Josh has long light brown hair and those same light blue eyes that made me feel safe. He was wearing his American Eagle striped over-shirt that he loved so much and some tight jeans that showed off his sexy legs. Josh and I have been on the football team since we started high school. So he was in really good shape and pretty buff. You would be stupid to try to mess with him.
"What are you starring at dork," he punched me softly on the arm and brought me back to reality. "Oh sorry, I was just thinking," I said still realizing that I was standing in only my boxers starring him in the eyes. I quickly moved behind him towards the bathroom in my room.
'"Hey, well, hurry up and get ready. We're going to be late for school," he said moving towards my computer while I got ready for school.
Today was the first day back at school for our junior year. This was a big day for both of us, because we have been training the last two year's for this. We are both starting players on our high school's varsity football team. Joshua is the team caption as well as the quarterback and I was his wide receiver. Josh and I practice a lot together and the coach loves having both of us on the same team. He says we work so good together, that he even had to bench a few seniors just to have both of us playing together.
Josh's Point Of View
I went over to Clay's house to see if he was ready for school. Clay and I have been pretty close since the day we met. I have my own key to his house and he has the same to mine.
"Morning Josh. What brings you here so early?" Clay's dad said to me.
"Morning, Mr. Anderson, we got have football tryout's this morning so I wanted to get to school a little early," I said to him as I passed through the Kitchen finding him sitting on the sofa reading the paper and drinking his coffee.
"Oh, that's right, today's the big back to school tryouts. Are you boys going back out for the team?" he said to me looking up from his paper.
"Yes sir, but we already know we're on the team. This is for the new guys that want to join"
"I see. Well I am off to work. Do me a favor Josh and tell Clay that I won't be home for dinner tonight so he needs to make or order something for you two and Alex, " he said getting up and grabbing his briefcase.
"Sure. I'll let him know," I said.
"ALEX!!" Clay's father screamed while walking to the front door.
"Yeah dad?" answered Clay's brother Alex. Alex is three years younger than Clay and me. He is thirteen years old and a bright kid. He has short black hair and dark brown eyes. He's about 5'5" and weighs around 100 pounds. He doesn't look like Clay at all. I mean they are both very slim, but Clay is built and Alex is just skinny.
"Your brother and Josh are leaving early so get ready so they don't have to wait for you," Mr. Anderson said as he opened the front door.
"I'm going to work, son. Have a good day at school"
"Okay, bye dad," Alex said as he ran back upstairs.
I made my way up to Clay's room when I bumped into Alex.
"Oops, sorry Josh," Alex said, picking up whatever he just dropped onto the floor and then making his way to the bathroom.
"Don't worry about it Alex, just try to hurry we got to leave soon," Clay's brother nodded and left.
When I got into Clay's room that dufus was still asleep. I tried to wake him up, but it didn't seem to work. So I threw the blankets off of him and exposed him. He was in only wearing his boxers. Usually you would think it's odd right? But Clay and I are so close we could be naked in front of each other and not feel strange at all. To be honest I kind of like the way he stares at my body.
He finally got up and looked me in the eyes. He's so cute when he wakes up. His light brown eyes looked me straight in the eyes and stayed that way for a moment. His semi-long, dark curly hair nearly matches his eyes. I always notice girls checking him out, but he never seems interested in them. He stands at 5'9". Just an inch shorter then me and he weighs 155 pounds. Clay isn't as built as I am but he's got a great 6-pack. Just the way his skin looks makes all the girls want him even more.
He just stood there looking me in the eyes. I knew what he was doing but figure I'd snap him out of it before we were late. I gently punched the side of his arm while asking him what he was staring at. He shook a little and just smiled at me.
"Sorry, I was just thinking," he said in a quite voice.
He walked past me and headed to the bathroom. I just watched him as he left the bathroom door open and hopped into the shower. I walked over to his computer to check my email while he was taking a shower.
A few minutes later he came out of the bathroom with just a towel on and started to get dressed.
"Hey, I almost forgot your dad said he won't be home for dinner tonight, " I said as I turned to look at him. He was pulling this green shirt with this stripped design on it. It really looked good on him.
"Ah, okay, nothing new there. We can just order pizza or something tonight," he said as he put his shoes on.
We finally made our way downstairs and got to the kitchen where his brother was already sitting at the kitchen table eating cereal.
"Hey, Bro," Clay said as he walked behind where Alex was sitting and ruffled his hair.
"Hey," Alex said back giving me and his brother a smile.
"Someone's in a good mood this morning," I said walking past Alex ruffling his hair too, just like Clay did.
"Well, when you have brother's that are captain of the football team and the teams best wide receiver and everyone knows you as their kid brother, it's something to be proud of!" Alex said, giving us both a big smile.
I smiled back at him. I mean the kid called me his brother and I guess that's because well I kind of am like his brother. I'm at his house more than he is sometimes and well being an only child I always did want a little brother.
"So bro, we have football practice today. You going to be OK walking home?" Clay asked his brother.
"Yeah, gee. It's not really that far. Sometimes you treat me like a baby you know that?" Alex said, giving his brother a frown.
"Hey, at least you know he cares about you Alex," I said giving Alex a wink.
"OK. OK. So are you guy's ready to go or what?" Alex said looking at me and then looking at Clay.
"Yea, I think we were just waiting for you bro. Let's get a move on," Clay said.
We all got up, locked the house and headed out to my car. Both Clay and I drive and have our own car's but we figure we can save gas by just taking one car. It works great. So we all climbed into my truck and headed off to school. We stopped at the middle school first to drop off Alex.
Then we were off to our high school. Our high school is a pretty big school. There are about 400 students per grade level, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade. We got to school and found parking in the school's small parking lot. By the time we got there it was about 7:00 a.m. and school starts at 8:30 a.m. As we walked to the school we were greeted by our group of friends and some of the football guys. Clay and I mostly hang out with the same group of guys and it's pretty cool. We aren't like the high and mighty jocks or anything. The funny thing about our group of friends is that they are pretty much made up of many different types of people.. Some of our friends are football players or basketball players, or they are on the track team or swim team. Hell, some of them don't even play sports. And we could really care less. They are friends because of who they are, not what they do.
But there's about six of us that are really close among the group. Of course there is Clay and me and then there is Johnny and Jacob, and Caitlin and Jamie. Johnny is on the Basketball team. He's just as tall as I am but he has short black hair. Jacob plays football with Clay and me. Jacob is a big guy he stands at about 6'2" and weighs around 230 pounds. When you look at him you would be scared shit-less, but really? Jacob is one of the most friendly guys you would ever know, but don't get me wrong you don't want to get on his bad side... Like ever. Caitlin is the head cheerleader and Jamie is just well Jamie. Caitlin is very popular and pretty, she's the kind of girl that most guys dream about. Jamie on the other hand is pretty hot too, but the way she dresses hides it and we know she does that for a reason. But Jamie is awesome, she is the best person to talk to when you have a problem and she's just a great all around person.
Clay's Point Of View
So we got to the school and meet up with some of the gang.
"Hey, Lovers. over here," yelled Johnny
"Hey, Johnny boy!!" I yelled as we walked over to him Caitlin and Jamie.
Josh went over and greeted Caitlin and Jamie while I walked over and messed up Johnny's hair.
"That's for the gay comment you made," I said giggling at how much of a mess his hair looked like now. Johnny and I walked over to where Josh and the girls were and sat down next to them.
"Hey, Clay," both Jamie and Caitlin said at the exact same time, looking at each other and then laughing.
"Hey Jamie, Hey Caitlin, how was your vacation?" I asked, while looking around at all the new kids.
"It was good" Jamie said. "Our family went over to Japan and it was a blast." "Mine is so, so. " Caitlin said.
"Hey, so where's Jacob?" Josh said, looking around. And then it hit me, "Oh Shit!" I said a little too loud and got everyone walking by's attention as well as the guys hanging around us.
"What?" Josh said calmly. I stood up and stared Josh in the eye and then it hit him too. "Oh, hell" He said.
"Um, do you two mind telling us, what is going on?" Caitlin said.
"Football tryout's," Josh and I said at the same time, causing us to look at each other and then laugh.
"We got to go," I said looking at josh.
"Yea, we're already late. Come on Clay," Josh said, standing up and heading for the field.
"Yeah, we'll see you guys at lunch," I said and went to go catch up to Josh.
They waved us both off and started to talk among themselves as we headed down to the field.
By the time we finally made it down there the whole team, along with the coach and all the guy's trying out for the team, were standing on the field apparently waiting for us.
"Well, its nice for you two to finally join us," Coach Jimmy said to us.
"Sorry coach," Josh said as I stood right next to him.
We saw Jacob standing in the sun smiling at us and I gave him a big smile back.
"Now that everyone is here we can start," Coach Jimmy said.
"First let's start with the wide receivers; you, you and you," The coach said pointing to a few guys and sending them off to the field.
"Clay, why don't you get out there and play defense," The coach said winking at me and I knew what this meant. I put my gear on and got into position.
The game started and I followed the left wide receiver. Seeing as he was wide open I knew the ball was going to him. Josh saw it and threw the ball at him... He was just about to catch it when I came up right in front of him and got to the ball before he even saw me. Boom intercepted. I started to run down the field when Jacob came out of no where and took me down.
"Ugh. Dang it, Jacob. This is why I thank the god we are on the same team," I said as he helped me up. I swear it felt like a truck just came and ran me over.
"Ha, nice intercept man," Jacob said, putting his arm around me and walking over back to the coach.
"OK, good job, Clay and Jacob. So what did we learn from that?" the coach asked the new recruits, but when none of them replied, Josh did it for them.
"That Clay has a hard-on for the ball and to stay far, far, far away from Jacob?" Josh said, causing everyone to roll on the floor laughing. I think I even saw the coach let out a smile himself. After that we did a few more plays and then called it a morning.
"Alright guys, good job today. For you new guys, we already have a pretty solid team, but we are looking for a few replacements and one starter. I've seen enough for today so go on and get changed and get to class.
We all got changed and I saw Josh and Jacob outside the locker rooms waiting for me.
"What's up?" I said, as I walked next to Josh.
"Not much. I just thought we could all walk to class since we have first period together," Josh said, with Jacob next to him nodding.
`Oh, Sweet," I said to myself. "The the more time I get to spend with Josh the better."
We got to class and chatted with some other classmates we knew and then took three seats in the middle. Josh would be sitting to my left and Jacob sat behind us. The rest of the day went really well. Saw a lot of faces I knew. Chatted with some people and finally it was time for lunch. We sat at a table next to all the football players. This is where our gang hangs out most of the time.
As I made my way to the table, I heard someone call my name. I turned to look, as I waved and turned back I felt something hit me and stumbled back a little. I looked in front of me and saw that this kid ran into me by mistake and fell flat on his ass.
"Shit!" I heard him mumble.
"Sorry dude," I said as I reached out my hand and gave it to him. He looked shocked and then reached out for my hand and I pulled him up.
"Look, I'm really sorry I didn't see you," I said, letting go of his hand. He looked at me like he was scared, but nodded and started to walk away. I gave him a look over and I couldn't believe I found myself attracted to this guy.. But wait no. This can't be. I'm not gay. Or am I?. Ever since I met Josh, I knew there was something different about me. I would look into Josh's beautiful eyes and feel like I was in love. I think ever since I met him I knew I liked him more than I liked girls. But back then I never knew what it meant. I though maybe it just meant we were suppose to be best of friends, which we are. But I know I always wanted our friendship to be more. I know Josh cares about me a lot, but I also know he is not gay. But that doesn't stop me from staring at him every chance I got. I suddenly felt someone touch my arm and I jumped. But then I felt safe. Once I looked over to see it was Josh. I smiled.
"Hey, you alright?" Josh said, giving my shoulder a gently squeeze. I just spaced out again and looked into those wonderful eyes again.
"Yeah fine," I said, still looking into his eyes.
"Come on then," he said and started to walk off towards the table they where our friends were sitting.
I sat down next to Josh and just began to let my mind wonder off again. After lunch we all headed off to our final class. I told Josh I would met him in our usual area by the school parking lot after school. Then I went off to my last class of the day.
As I got into class the first thing I noticed was the guy that bumped into me at lunch. I noticed his eyes went and meet up with mine when I saw him sitting in the back row. I walked back there and sat down next to him. He looked at me until I sat down on the seat next to him. Then he looked away from me. I turned to him and just as I was about to say something, I got distracted.
"Clay Anderson!!!" Was the voice that screamed my name from the door. I looked over and saw Jamie standing their with a huge smile on her face. She ran over to where I was sitting and took the seat next to me.
"Omg! I can't believe we have a class together!!" Her voice was so cheerful and happy. To be honest I was glad too. I really do like Jamie and that will make this class more interesting.
"Yes, it's nice to finally have you in one of my classes, Jamie," I said smiling at her. One of her friends sat in the seat in front of her so while her attention was their I decided to try to talk to this guy next to me before the class starts.
I leaned over towards him and extended my hand and whispered into his ear.
"I never did get to ask you your name. Mine is Clay," I said softly.
"Yeah, I know who you are, umm, my name's Ryan," he said softly and shook my hand.
"Well it's nice to meet you Ryan and sorry about before again," I said noticing him staring at me along the way.
"It's OK. It was my fault really." He said. Just then the teacher came into the room and began teaching her class.
While she was talking and teaching the class I noticed Ryan kept glancing at me and I started to wonder why he kept looking at me. Was he scared of me or what?
I felt someone tapping on my shoulder and I turned around to see Jamie looking at me mouthing the words, "Are you OK?" I just gave her a nod and went back to listening to the teacher.
Before the class ended the teacher told us she wanted us to get into groups of two for a project she would have us doing. Immediately I felt Jamie grab my hand and she threw a big smile in my direction. I knew then she wanted to be partner's but I also knew this would be a good chance to get to know Ryan. I leaned over to Ryan.
"Hey Ryan, you want to be my partner?" I asked, giving him a big smile. He looked over at me and watched me for a moment and then just gave me a nod with a small smile. I looked back over to Jamie and she gave me a little frown, but then smiled again once she found a partner. So once we got everything figured out for the project and what we would have to do, the bell finally rang and the first day of school was over. "Hey, so when do you want to get started?" I asked Ryan as he was putting all of his things into his bag. He turned to look at me with a eyebrow up giving me a strange looking face.
"Why are you doing this?" Ryan asked looking into my eyes. "What are you talking about?" I asked him as he looked away from my eyes and back to putting things into his bag.
"Look, I'm just trying to be nice. If you would rather I work with someone else..." I began to say until I got distracted.
"Clay are you coming? Josh is going to wonder what's taking you so long," Jamie said sticking her head into the classroom.
"Okay. I'm coming just give me one more second," I yelled to her. "Look, here's my number," I said, giving him a piece of paper with my cell and house Phone number on it. "Give me a call later and we can figure this out. OK?"
Ryan just nodded and headed out the door. I picked up all my things and followed him out to see a Jamie smiling at me. She grabbed my hand and we walked off to find the others.
As we reached the parking lot we saw Josh sitting on his tailgate staring at us with a big smile on his face. But I wondered why he was alone and where everyone else was.
"It's about time you two," Josh said still smiling at me. "Sorry, this one over here kept talking to that guy he bumped into at the cafe," Jamie said.
I turned to face Jamie and shot her an evil look. I really didn't mind that she told Josh, but I knew when we were alone he would be asking me about it.
"Yeah, yeah, well I'm here now. Sorry for making you wait, Josh," I said giving him my fake sad face.
"Whatever," he said playfully punching my arm. "Well, let's get going, Clay." "Jamie, do you need a ride?" Josh asked, still smiling at me for some odd reason.
"No thanks, my brother's picking me up today," she said, giving us both a frown once her brother pulled up next to us.
"Alright, well, we shall see you tomorrow then, bye," Josh said. I just threw her a smile and waved as I got into Josh's truck.
As Josh started to drive I noticed he kept looking over at me still with a big smile on his face. "If I didn't know any better I'd think you're checking me out," I said, looking at Josh and watching for his reaction.
"Who knows, maybe I am! I mean you're such a stud," Josh said, trying not to laugh. "No, but really, what's up with you and that kid?" Josh said sounding a bit more serious.
"Who? Ryan?" I said, giving him a questionable look. "On first name bases already, huh?" Josh said, putting his right arm around my shoulder and just driving with his left hand.
"Look, I have to do a project with him for school, that's all," I said, getting a bit annoyed.
"Chill, Clay, you know I'm only messing with you... I mean, come on, if you were gay or something I would be the first to know!" he said pulling me a little closer to him.
But as he finished his sentence I looked up at him with a scared look on my face.
"Does he know? But he can't... I'm not even sure of it yet. How can he know?" I thought to myself. I looked back up at him again and he was now starring at me with a worried look on his face. I just forced a smile and rested my head on his shoulder.
Then I started to think again, maybe I am gay... I mean... I know I've always been in love with Josh. Just resting my head on his shoulder like this makes me feel so comfortable. And I guess it's just something about him that makes me so happy to be with him. Not to mention, well, he's the hottest kid in school, duh! But then there's Ryan. What is it about this kid that makes me want to know more about him? If it was anyone else I would have bumped into it would have been nothing. I would help him up and walk away. But with Ryan it seemed different. As if I felt like I had to talk to him and the way he makes me feel when I'm around him isn't anything like I feel when I'm with Josh. With Josh I feel safe and loved. But with Ryan, I feel scared nervous. Oh god. Am I falling for Ryan? But that can't be because I know for sure that I am in love with Josh. God what am I getting myself into.
As I felt the car stop I opened my eyes and looked up at Josh just to see his wonderful blue eye's gazing over me.
"We're home," Josh said resting his head on mine. We fell silent for a moment until we heard a loud scream coming from my house. We both looked at each other and then at the house.
"What the hell..." I said as we quickly got off each other and ran into my house. As we got to the front door I noticed the door was locked, but that was odd. Alex was home so why was the door locked? I quickly got out my keys and slammed the front door open. Josh and I rushed into the living room and that is when Josh started to crack up laughing. The TV was on and it was on very loud and playing a horror movie. I went to the TV and turned it off. Josh was now on the floor laughing as hard as he could. I grabbed one of the pillows from the sofa and threw it at his head.
"That was so not funny," I said, a little upset. Josh looked up at my face and saw how worried I was.
"Aw Clay, it's OK, man," Josh said, standing up and putting an arm around me again like he did in the car.
"Wait. So if the TV was on then Alex must be around here somewhere," I said wondering where my little brother was and why the front door was locked.
We both put our bags down and walked up the stairs to Alex's room. We finally got to it and it was just a tad open and we both could hear some funny sounds coming from inside the room. Josh and I exchanged some weird looks to each other and I went up and pushed Alex's door open. As Josh and I stepped in both our jaw's dropped. There was my little brother and some other boy on the bed, butt naked in a 69 position with each other's dicks in their mouths.
