Beginning To The End By LEZ B. HONEST
Part 1
"What's your name?" Marie asked the stranger that had simply messaged her "hey" through the online dating website. She found this stranger intriguing, due to the filter the stranger's image had. What little she could see was what you would say is her "type". She looked farther at the profile for more information. There wasn't much more, which wasn't surprising to her considering the filtered image. Marie had received many responses to her dating profile. Of course she would; she's a very beautiful woman. At 5 feet and 9 inches tall, long blonde hair, blue eyes, with a beautiful face and a body just as beautiful, it was surprising that she would resort to joining a dating website in the first place.
Marie put her laptop computer on sleep mode then closed it. She pushed it to the side and laid back down on her bed, with a feeling of guilt. There was a big secret behind her that she did not mention in her profile. Marie was actually not single at all. In fact, Marie was in a year long relationship with her girlfriend Diane.
There was always something missing from Marie's relationship with Diane. They had met during their senior year of high school. They saw each other and felt an instant attraction towards each other, and as young couples often do, began dating soon after that. As time went on and they reached the one year mark, there was something missing. Marie didn't know what was missing; she loved Diane, but they tended to have more arguments than good times together. It made Marie begin to wonder about what else was out there.
Marie thought to herself about Diane. She wondered was Diane was doing. Marie grabbed her cellphone from the nightstand and searched for the contacted titled `My Babe', clicked it, and then selected to send a text message, "Hey baby, haven't heard from you. Just wondering what you're up to. Message me back I love you and miss you a lot! xxx". With that message sent, her thoughts began to drift after a long day was taking its toll on her. Soon she was asleep.
Yesenia was excited to see her email notifying her that she had received a response to the message she had sent to the pretty blonde. Something about that sweet smile and those blue eyes caught her interest. As soon as she had written the hey' message, she had regretted it. That message was far too short of a message to warrant a response. Everyone knows that if you initiate contact, you want to make a lasting impression, and a hey' message tends to do the opposite of that. She decided not to send anymore messages after `hey' even though she was tempted. She thought, just quit while you're ahead. To her surprise, she had actually received a response. Logging into her profile she responded to the message, "Hi, I'm Yesenia. I was looking at your profile and I just want to get to know you more. Give me a call. My number is (310) 555-7812"
Short and sweet, Yesenia thought. For the rest of the day she kept looking at her phone in hopes of getting a call from the pretty blonde. The day went without a word from the blonde.
"Hey, good morning babes. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Was busy with my friends. Jessica, Sarah, and I were hanging out. We went to Ryan's since he was having a birthday party. I miss you too. Let me know when you wake!" Great. Thanks for not telling me, thought Marie. It frustrated her that this was the typical behavior of Diane. Because Diane was still in the closet, her family did not know that she was in a relationship with another woman. She seemed to enjoy having the best of both worlds though. The few times that Diane brought Marie as a `friend' to gatherings with her friends, she openly flirted with guys. Marie was upset about this, but felt that she should give it time; eventually Diane would come out to her family and everything would be fine. With that in mind, Marie ignored the message and got up from bed to start her day.
Marie was in her evening class when received another text from Diane. "Hey why aren't you answering me?" It upset Marie that Diane would think that going out and not telling her about it would be okay. And to question her about her not responding to Diane's text made her even more upset. Why would I answer her if I'm upset? thought Marie. Another message came in, "Are you mad because I went out?" YES, Marie thought. Not only did Diane go out, but she stayed out late and didn't let Marie know. "Nothing happened. Don't know why you're acting like this." Followed by "Ttyl". Wow, what could I even say to that? thought Marie. Marie didn't respond. There was nothing much to say to the messages. The professor began to change slides and taking notes on the lecture helped Marie take her mind off of the messages she had just received. As this was the final class of the day, once the professor dismissed the students, Marie headed to her car. As she pulled up into her driveway, Marie heard her phone notify her that she had received a new email. When she looked at her inbox, she saw the message that was sent to her through the online dating site. The message of the girl she had responded to included a phone number. It seemed strange that the girl had responded with a phone number. Under normal circumstances, Marie wouldn't call, but and she kept telling herself that she joined the site to make new friends, so... why not Marie thought as she dialed the number.
The phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi, I got your message and just wanted to give you a call"
"Oh hey, thank you for calling. It's good to hear the voice behind the picture. I have to admit, I thought you might have been a guy pretending to be a girl. I've read too many stories and seen too many shows, obviously, as I told you before I'm Yesenia"
"Hi Yesenia, I'm Marie. Oh and I completely understand what you mean. I felt the same. Your profile doesn't say much about yourself so it's easy to assume you might not be who you say you are either."
"It doesn't ... sorry about that. I'm new to this and ... I didn't have much to say." Yesenia continued, "This may be unconventional and rushed to ask, but I would really like to see you and get to know you better. Are you free right now?"
That was a very odd request and definitely rushed! Marie wanted to meet Yesenia, but it was already 9:00 pm. It sounded scary and like the start of a horror movie, but it might have been the earlier messages with Diane that influenced her decision in accepting.
"Okay."
The conversation went on a bit and then ended with Marie sending Yesenia her address.
On the way to Marie's house Yesenia was excited. It was late and Marie's house was about a 35 minute drive away. With music turned to her favorite radio station, she thought back to the conversation. She was happy that it didn't seem like a catfish situation happening and Marie's voice sounded sexy. It matched her profile pic. Yesenia blushed at the thought of the image. Marie definitely was a sexy woman and the low crop shirt showed off her chest a bit more than a t-shirt would have. She heard her phone ring then lifted it up to read the name on the caller ID. It was her girlfriend. Yesenia tossed her phone at the passenger seat, upset that her thoughts were ruined by the unwanted call. She was not in love with her girlfriend and they had only been dating a few weeks. She didn't know why she got in that relationship, but she was going to end it tomorrow.
Yesenia came to the gated community in which Marie lived. The text that Marie sent her earlier told her the code to get the gates open. It wasn't working. Either she was inputting it wrong or it was not the code. This caused a bit of panic that she might have been fooled after all. She thought of sending a text asking Marie what the code was again, but decided against it. At that moment, a resident of the gated community pulled behind her, and the gate opened. Apparently, the driver behind her clicked the gates opened. She put her car into drive and headed towards the house address that Marie had given her. The GPS notified her that the location would be the corner house on the left. Still a few houses away, Yesenia pulled over and parked. She got her phone out to confirm the address and it was accurate. Her heart started to beat a bit faster at this. She texted Marie, "I'm outside."
