"Great," Kaitlin smiled at her, "it was really nice to meet you Ash." She waved good-bye to each of the kids and even snagged a hug from Emi before disappearing through the parking gate doors. Ashley stood there for a minute, staring at the empty doorway. She couldn't get over the sound of her abbreviated name on Kaitlin's lips. As the kids dragged her down the fairway, Ashley shook her head.

"God what was I doing? I have a girlfriend and even though she's back home... I shouldn't be openly flirting with this woman... this really cute, sweet woman." The thought brought another smile to her face as she adjusted the bag that Kaitlin had carried and hustled with the kids up to the next gate.

Sure enough, Ashley's parents were waiting at the gate, smiling and waving as they watched their daughter and grandkids make their way to them. After a quick round of hugs and kisses and a chorus of oh-how-we-missed-you's the family walked out the doors and made our way to their van and went back to the house.

It was a few days before the constant stream of visitors dwindled down long enough for Ashley to actually think about talking to Kaitlin, though she was never far from her mind. In those few minutes they had shared together, she seemed to have made a big impression not only on Ashley, but on the kids as well, who had already asked when she was coming over.

As she pulled the note from her bag, she realized that while Kaitlin had given her numbers to Ashley, Ashley had failed to do the same. Reading the note she handed her, Kaitlin had so kindly stated that she could text her too if it would be more comfortable doing that. Nervously, she sent off the first text, admitting her mistake. Kaitlin merely found it cute and told her not to worry so much. Since then it's been numerous texts and even a few calls. The whole family kept stopping by through that first couple of weeks for visits with Ashley and the kids. There were so many BBQ's and play dates with the kids that the time was flying faster than she'd wanted it to. She had managed a few texts messages with Janice and one phone call, but it was the calls she began to receive every night from Kaitlin that she started looked forward to.

Somehow, amid all the chaos, the two of them managed to free themselves up and meet together for coffee and tea a couple times. Ashley found it amazingly easy to talk to Kaitlin and at the same time could sit and listen to story after story, Kaitlin's rich melodic voice entrancing her. Along the way they found out a lot about each other and that really, they had a lot in common. She learned that Kaitlin lived only about 20 minutes from where her parents did, in the house that she grew up in and that she was trying to restore it; that she was working in an office, filing claims for the government and that she was in a long term relationship but that it's been over for a couple of years with nothing memorable since. Ashley told her all about her ex husband and the lying about her sexuality. She told her about the decision to move for school and meeting Janice and their relationship.

Kaitlin got quiet whenever Ash would speak about Janice and the way things were. She could see the anger in her when the conversations got around to how Janice would yell at the kids for every little thing. She listened to all Ashley's fears and doubts about the decision she'd made without interruption or judgement. Many of their conversations went on into the wee hours of the morning whether it was on the phone or in person. Ashley was surprised when her mother suggested the first time that Kaitlin come over for one of the family BBQ's. It wasn't long before she was a regular attendee. She got along fabulously with all her family. And the kids just adored her; Kaitlin would play with them for hours.

"You have a keeper there." Ashley's sister in law whispered as she walked past, bringing a picture of lemonade out to the picnic table. She stood on the deck and looked out in the yard and couldn't help but smile at the sight of the big tough butch being tackled to the ground by her kids and her nieces and nephews. After the first month of her coming over and the two of them chatting, Ashley was sure that not only her but my children and family had made a new friend.

A couple of weeks before the reunion and the family were once again coming over for another BBQ. There would be discussion about the reunion, a final meeting on what we were bringing for food for it and small last minute details. The kids were outside playing, the adults were strewed all around the house, at the kitchen table playing cards, in the living room watching TV as well as a few outside with the kids. Standing by the kitchen counter and cutting up vegetables Ashley heard a familiar horn and looked up. Peering out, she saw Kaitlin's now familiar black Jeep coming slowly down the driveway. A smile crept to her face as she realized that unlike other people in her family Kaitlin never sped down the driveway, always mindful of the kids. The Jeep pulled up beside her parents van and Ash watched as Kaitlin got out and walked around to the passenger side door, pulling out a tray. Turning towards the house their eyes and a grin spread across Kaitlin's face. She watched her saunter up to the house wearing another pair of baggy shorts and yet another tank top. This time instead of the messed up do she had on a ball cap. Quickly grabbed the towel nearest her, Ashley wiped her hands off and walked over to the door, reaching it just as she heard her faint knock. Ashley opened the door and couldn't help but match the beaming grin on her guest face.

"Hi."

"Hey there," she said as she shyly, looking Ashley up and down, "You look great."

Ashley self consciously looked down at her own outfit of jeans and a white tank top and thought it was nothing special. Leading her into the kitchen, Ashley took the tray of cheeses and meats from Kaitlin and tried to find a place in the fridge for it. As she turned back to the veggies that she had been chopping up before, she smiled as she saw Kaitlin had found another knife and was waiting to help finish the pre-BBQ prep. The two set into a pleasant routine of helping prepare the veggies and a few other dishes for the BBQ. The day and night ran on with the same fan fair as all the others BBQ nights had with the kids playing and the adults cooking. When dinner was called out, everyone filed into the kitchen, falling into a huge line up. Kaitlin helped Ashley get the plates for the kids, laughing and joking with each other as they worked together, settling the kids in. Kaitlin made one last check on the kids before handing Ashley a plate. After filling both their plates they walked away from the noise of the family, across the yard and sat underneath this huge tree, side by side.

"The shade feels nice." Kaitlin commented as she leaned forward to keep from dripping ketchup off her hot dog.

Ashley chuckled as she nodded. "This summer has been nicely warm. You're getting a light tan."

She watched as Kaitlin looked down at her arm and smile around a bite of hotdog.

"You're not looking so pale yourself anymore." Kaitlin laughed after she swallowed hard.

The two laughed softly before they once again fell into an easy silence and ate. Once they'd finished, Kaitlin reached over and moved both of their plates out of the way. Just enjoying the solitude and one another's company they continued to sit and watch the kids laugh and play.

"You know if they keep that up they will tire themselves out and sleep like the dead," Kaitlin said laughing as she watched Emi chase down her brothers. Ashley turned and looked at her and couldn't help but smile as her eyes followed the kids. Slowly her eyes found Ashley's and was staring back at her.

"What," she said laughing, her eyes still holding Ash's. "Do I have crap all over my face?"

Ashley felt her cheeks begin to warm and knew she was blushing. She quickly looked away and murmured a soft no. Turning back the two of them sat quietly and watched the kids as the day turned to twilight. Kaitlin stood and reached down, helping Ashley to her feet. Without a word to each other, just the occasional smile, they helped clean up. Slowly everyone began to leave and before either of them realized it, it was the kids' bedtime.

"Listen, I know your parent's are in bed. Would you like some help getting the kids ready for bed?" Kaitlin asked as she put the final piece of Tupperware into the already over packed fridge.

Ashley nervously tucked as piece of hair behind her ear. "Really?" She asked as she looked intently at the table she was wiping off. "You wouldn't mind?"

"You're going to wear a hole in that table." Kaitlin said as she came over and took the cloth from Ashley's hands. "And Ash, you should know by now I wouldn't have offered if I did."

Ashley tried to catch her breath but with Kaitlin so near it seemed impossible. Kaitlin smiled and took a step back, hanging the washcloth to dry. She walked to the living room, rounding up the kids for their baths. As much as she knew Kait was a woman of her word, Ashley was still surprised when she got right in there with the kids during bath time, squirting water at them and helping clean them up, laughing at Riley's antics as she helped him get dressed.

"I love you princess." Ashley whispered as she tucked in her little girl.

"Mommy, can Ms. Kait come in and say good night?"

Ashley smiled as she heard movement at the door. She knew Kaitlin had been waiting there. She could feel her watching. Ashley leaned down and kissed Emily good night before she moved out of the way.

"Hi, Princess." She heard Kaitlin whisper as she sat on the edge of the young girls bed.

"I had fun playing today."

"Me too, but now it's time for bed."

"Yeah, cause I'm sleepy."

Ashley watched as Kaitlin nodded. "Yup, me too."

"Can you spend the night with us? I'm sure mommy wouldn't mind."

Kaitlin chuckled as she looked back at where Ashley stood in the door. "Maybe one night before you leave you can all come over to my house and spend the night. How about that?"

Emily nodded as she yawned. "Okay. Night Ms. Kait."

"Goodnight baby girl." Kaitlin leaned forward and kissed Emily on the forehead before walked out. Ashley watched as she did the same thing, helping put the boys to bed.

Everyone tucked in for the night, they quietly walked into the living room and sat down on the couch.

"Would you like some tea or coffee or something," Ashley asked, getting ready to get up and get some.

"No, oh god, please no," she said laying her hand on her stomach, "if I eat any more I will explode." She laughed then grabbed her stomach again. "Ohhhh that wasn't smart of me, please don't make me laugh again."

The look on her face was, priceless and Ashley couldn't help but start laughing with her.

Laughter being as contagious as it is, soon they were both rolling on the couch laughing and grabbing their stomachs. Slowly, their laughter subsided as they laid on the couch next to one another, trying to catch their breath.

"I haven't laughed like that in a long time," Kaitlin sighed. Ashley turned her hear to look at Kait and stopping when she felt her face so close. Too close. Raising her eyes, Ashley could see Kaitlin looking into her own. She felt the pull, leaning her head in, and before Ashley had time to think about what was happening, Kaitlin softly placed her lips against her own. Ashley felt herself groan as kissed Kaitlin back. Nothing else around them mattered, just the feel of the other's lips pressed against each others. They were both lost in the thrill of it. Ashley's hands found their way into Kaitlin's hair as Kaitlin pressed further against her. She could feel the touch of her tongue softly slide against her lips, as Ashley parted them further. Their tongues touched and Ashley heard as much as felt Kaitlin moan into her mouth. They lay there, tangled in each other kissing softly yet passionately until Kaitlin pulled away quickly.

"Oh my god Ash,"

she said quickly sitting up and touching her lips, "I'm sooo sorry. I shouldn't have done that."

Ashley sat up and looked over at her, her mind warring with itself. Even though she knew they shouldn't have, she couldn't help herself. Kissing someone had never felt so right. Ashley got to her knees and slowly made my way over to Kaitlin. Trying not to think too much, she swung her leg over Kait's, straddling her as she wrapped her hands around her neck.

"Please don't be sorry," Ashley whispered as she lowered my lips to Kaitlin's, "because I want it just as bad." As Ashley touched her lips to Kaitlin's she wasting no time, kissing her hard with all the passion and desire that had been building up deep inside of her since their first meeting. She knew that she should been thinking about Janice and their `relationship' but she could no longer deny what was happening, these feelings and emotions that were running through her.

"Oh Ash," Kaitlin moaned out as Ashley deepened the kiss, her tongue sliding over Kaitlin's. Kait's warm hands slid down over Ashley's back and settle over her hips. Pressing herself further into Kaitlin, Ashley's hands reached up and slid into her Kaitlin's short spikey hair, thankful she had removed the hat when Ash wasn't looking. Kissing and holding onto each other, Ashley felt her hands slid lower down grasping her ass, her fingers digging into her.

Ashley broke from her lips and started to kiss down Kaitlin's neck and over to her ear. Ashley was unable to stop the soft whimper that escaped her throat as she felt Kaitlin's hands then moved from her ass, around to her breasts, cupping them gently.

Ashley felt Kait's hips stir beneath her as Kaitlin's hands squeezed around her breast. It was just then that a cry came out from down the hall. Ashley groaned as she leaned her head against Kaitlin's shoulder. Standing quickly, Ashley stood and straightening her shirt, looked down and smiled.

Kaitlin looked up at her and chuckled.

"I'll be right back okay, and then maybe we should talk?" Ash said quietly to her.

"Yeah, I think we should," Kaitlin said looking back, "Go take care of the kids. I'll be here when you get back."

Ashley shook her head, trying to clear it as she quickly walked out of the room, trying to find which of the kids woke up.

After some water and a soothing song back to sleep, she was finally able to return to the living room. She smiled to find someone else had fallen asleep, too. Standing there, she couldn't help but think how cute she was. No, Kaitlin even more than cute, yet beautiful didn't seem to be the right word. Striking seemed to fit better Ashley thought to herself. Reaching over she grabbed the blanket that was always on the back of the couch and covered her up.

"Goodnight, Kaitlin." She whispered, kissing her on the forehead before walking back to her room.
