Chapter 2: Neighbors from Hell ------------------------------

Saturday was fun for me...mostly. I sat around on my tablet, reading comics and wallowing in self-pity. It was very therapeutic. As I put my hand tablet down and walked over to a picture of my mother, I felt as if I was a in more trouble than it was worth.

Being a witch meant a lot in my family. My parents and grandmother stressed how much responsibility I had inherited. There were reeds and rituals and all kinds of magical go-throughs. My mother died doing a spell, which only set me off against it.

When I heard the doorbell ring, I rolled my eyes. Probably more neighbors with welcomes that I'd rather not deal with. At the moment, I heard footsteps.

"Lock."

The lock on the door clicked as someone tried to open the door.

"Pat, open the door." Dad said warningly.

"I doubt that's going to happen." I said putting my headphones in. I walked to the bed and laid down, "I'm not here. Please leave a message and screw off."

"That's no way to talk to your father." My grandmother's voice came through the door.

"Once again..."

The door unlocked by itself and they entered the room. I sighed and looked at them.

"Surprise, you're here." Grandmother smiled.

"You have to stop." Dad asked as we walked down the hallway.

I stared at him with a roll of the eyes. I followed them down the stairs and stood at the bottom of the stairs.

"I understand you're angry...with me and the world, but you have to let it go." Dad frowned.

"Let my mother's death go?" I asked with outrage.

"You two, we have guests." Grandmother said gesturing to the living room.

"Let's get this over with." I frowned as I walked into the living room.

I was surprised to see Alaric, Carly and an older blonde woman. The woman was the spitting image of Carly and it occurred to me that it was her mother. I wondered exactly why Alaric was with them.

"This is Patricia Goode, and her twins Alaric and Carly." Dad said introducing them.

Carly, who was on her phone, looked up at me while Alaric had been smiling at me all along. Their mother walked over and hugged me, causing me to stiffen.

"You're such a handsome young man!"

"Yes, this just keeps getting better." I frowned.

Dad cleared his throat, "This is my son, Patience. His mother named him." He said proudly.

"Uh, enough of this! Mom can we take the new kid on a tour of Bishop." Carly said as she slid her phone in her purse.

"I think that's a wonderful idea." Dad said quickly, "He could use some friends."

"We've met." I said politely.

"Oh?" Dad said, "You've already met the twins? How nice."

"Yes, nice." I said quickly, "I should dress in something other than sweats." I said leaving the room.

As we walked down the streets of Bishop, I found myself feeling very awkward around the two beautiful twins. They were ethereal to the core and they made me feel very ugly. Bishop was also beautiful. Bishop was an old Salem town that kept its old-timey look. The only real thing that changed was that streets.

"You're very boring." Carly said typing on her cell phone, "And your affiliation to the color black is..."

"Shut up, Carly." Alaric interrupted, "He's in mourning for his mother."

Carly rolled his eyes, "Who isn't." she said quickly.

"I'm sorry if I'm boring." I frowned, "I'm not giving you or Bishop much of a chance, I guess."

"I'm sorry but are we still pretending that he's not a witch?" Carly sighed.

I stopped in my tracks and looked between them.

"Carly!" Alaric frowned.

"You know?" I asked, "How'd you know?"

"Because we're advanced." Carly said, "We've been studying magic since we were little. You should have tried it."

"Do you have to be such a bitch?" I asked.

"Probably not but nobody'll ever say I'm boring." Carly smirked.

"I'm warming to you...that's got to be a side effect...unless this is some type of spell." I said quickly.

"Oogity boogity." Alaric said gesturing above my head.

I chuckled, "So, Alice and Samantha are witches too?" I asked.

"Duh." Carly said, "We're a coven."

"Cute."

"Cute?" Carly asked.

"Not to diss your coven, but exactly how much do you know?" I ask.

"Enough to commune with the dead." Alaric said defensively, "We do a lot of group spells to prepare for bigger spells. We've kind of been waiting for you."

"Jury's still out." Carly said quickly.

"Me?" I asked.

"Like I said, jury's still out." Carly said texting someone.

"Yes, you're one of the descendants of the witches in the witch trials." He explained, "You're powerful."

"Of course I am." I frowned, "You need my power?"

"We need you as a member of the coven." Carly said, "You in?"

"Just like that?" I asked.

"Do you really want me to kick your ass?" Carly sneered.

"She pulls wicked hair." Alaric chuckled.

"Cool. What do I have to do?" I asked.

"Everything's done." Carly said, "Follow me." She said marching ahead.

I watched Alaric follow her. I followed them, not knowing exactly where we were going.

I was, of course, worried when Alaric and Carly led me to a run-down house somewhere in the woods. As we walked through the doors of the once-Victorian mansion, I found myself feeling very at home. The place seemed to be just as rundown on the inside as it was on the outside.

"You brought me to the Addams Mansion?" I asked.

"This is where we practice our magic." Alaric explained, "I don't have to tell you why."

"It's out of the way and abandoned." Carly said causing us to look to her, "What? So far he hasn't been so bright."

"That's not nice Carls." Alice said walking out with Samantha, "What took you so long."

"He didn't want to leave his car." Carly said with a nonchalant expression.

"Well, it's good he's here now." Alice said quickly.

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Because our wiccaning is fast approaching."

"And we need to make our coven whole by then." Samantha explained.

I smirked, "So, you need me?" I asked.

"In a matter of speaking, yes." Carly frowned, "Our powers are stronger together."

"Yeah, I've heard your pitch and it needs more pitch." I nodded.

"But..."

"Listen, I'll think about it but I really need a good reason to join up with you trailor park witches. `Kay?" I said as I turned and left the room.
