Chapter 6
Bluest Blue Eyes
Aaron DuBois
It took me a second to register what Jamie had said. He was half way to the door after telling me that he was gay and loved me.
“Jamie, STOP!” He paused and I was standing by him, he was crying. “Jamie, don’t leave me again. I-I lost you once. I love you! “ Somehow we were in each other’s arms both crying. Well okay, sobbing. “I’ve loved you since the day you helped me deliver the colt, you were so awesome and you had the bluest eyes!”
“Me too, that’s when I fell in love with you.”
“How come you always say me too? Are we that much alike?” I half giggled.
“Yeah. Well we are both gay, right?”
“I think the fact that we both love each other and we are like really close together and…” I could not help smiling, “and we both are getting a hardon classifies us as gay.” I giggled and ground myself into him.
He pushed me back a bit and said, “Yuck!” Which startled me. At which point he pulled me back into him and said, “Gotcha!!! Mr. You-said-the-f-word!” He laughed and so did I. Our foreheads met and we gazed into each other’s eyes.
“I love you, Jamie.”
“I love you and I want to kiss you.”
“Me too.” I said softly and he did. It was better than anything I had imagined.
When we came up for air I said, “You kiss much better that Eddy Bear.”
“Yeah, well you are harder than a Ken doll.”
“You’ve tried to do it with a Ken doll”
“No! But I did try it once with a teddy bear…” he giggled.
“Was it nice for you?”
“It felt good.”
“You hear that, Eddy Bear! It’s no longer a twosome, it’s gonna be a threesome!” I said and we both started laughing.
“Aaron, do your parents know you’re gay? Rather have you told them you’re gay?”
“No and I don’t want to tell them. They’ll hate me.”
“Yeah right! Ehem!”
“They will,” I said.
“That’s nonsense! Look around you. Look at how your dad was with you and your mom when you told them about OUR trip to Chicago. I’m out to my mom. She knew and there was no way out for me except telling her the truth. At the time I knew I was going to be living on the streets. But it never happened and we’ve become even closer. Mom knows I love you.”
“I know but…” I said.
“We’ll do it together. I will be there for you and if the worst happens both of us will go home with mom. I don’t want to have secrets from your mom or dad.”
“Okay.”
Jamie and I went down the stairs, we didn’t bother putting our shoes on. I balked when we got to the living room door.
“No! I don’t want to do this!” I said in a whisper. I was shaking inside something fierce.
“Neither did I, Aaron, but I am not going to live a lie and I have too much respect for your parents to not be truthful,” he said loud enough to wake the dead, at least it seemed that way to me. Then he yanked me into the room.
With that kind of entry all eyes were upon us.
I could feel Jamie shaking as he spoke quietly, “I, uh, I uh felt it right, sir, ma’am, uh that you should know that that I love Aaron. I-I’ve loved him since I was thirteen and helped him deliver the-the pony’s colt.” I saw the tears rolling down his cheeks as he nervously cleared his throat. “I love him. I will always love him because that’s just the way I am – I am gay and I will always be gay. I’m telling you because I told Aaron the same thing, well not exactly in the same way, but I thought you should know and if you want me to leave I will leave…that’s all.”
I saw a tear roll down my mom’s cheek. Everyone was quiet. I found that I was now holding Jamie’s hand rather than he holding mine.
My father I could see was trying to control his emotions but I couldn’t tell if it was anger or grief. He cleared his throat and took a deep breath, He smiled at Jamie, “Thank you Jamie, for trusting me but this is not a decision for me to make. I think it’s Aaron’s decision to make. Whether he wants you in his life or out of it. I get the feeling that he wants you in his life because he’s holding your hand, and because I think you are the boy with the bluest blue eyes that he wrote a poem about.”
Dad looked at me, “Aaron, know this: I don’t care if you are straight or bi or gay. You were never an unwanted or unloved child and you will never be an unwanted or unloved child by your mother or me. You are what you are and I have seen how this boy here loves you and the effect it has had on you – yesterday I had the highest respect and admiration for Jamie because somehow he made you that happy, fun loving boy that I thought I had lost. Today, right now he showed courage that few people ever demonstrate – the courage to be honest and truthful - that respect, admiration, and love that I had yesterday skyrocketed a few minutes ago. I think this time you tell us what to do because I don’t ever want to lose you again because I made a bad decision.”
I could barely see my father’s eyes but I think he was crying I certainly was.
“Dad, Mom, Jamie is the bluest blue-eyed boy. I fell in love with him that day. And then I lost him and I lost my love. He gave me back my love, Dad! I am gay and that will never change. I love Jamie Lockhart and that will never change. I’m sorry if I am a disappointment as a son, but I will never be sorry that I chose to love the boy who had the bluest blue eyes.”
“Son, you could never disappoint me.”
