Bobby and the Coach
Chapter 5
Vacation Fun
For David, the flight was hysterical. Bobby held his hand for the whole of the airborne time and never stopped asking questions or gesticulating with his free hand. When David explained to the Hostess that this was Bobby's first time, the cabin crew kept a watch on him and thought they had never seen a more adorable man. He behaved like a ten year old and by the end of the flight they all wanted to give him a hug.
They picked up a rental car which David drove, Bobby had never learned and David was going to change that at the first opportunity. First stop was the hotel and after check in to a double room they both showered, and, dressed to kill were off to Bobby's parents.
David realised that Bobby was very nervous as soon as they got in the car and guessed why, so before starting out he broached the subject.
"Bobby, I know that your parents are very poor, and that we are going to a very run down area of this town where they live. None of that matters. What is important is despite their privations they have still been loving parents who have looked after you and encouraged you to be as good as you can be. You should be very proud of them and you are right to be as good as you can be to make them proud of you as well."
Bobby looked, with love, at David.
"Do you mean that David, really mean it?"
"You bet, any parent that can produce someone as special as you must be awesome."
Bobby giggled.
"I bet Mum and Dad will be blown away by you."
"Ok Tiger, let's go and see shall we?"
Even David's imagination couldn't conjure up close to the reality of Bobby's background. The trailer park was so run down and decrepit that as they drove into it he thought it was the local tip. The trailers were all falling apart. The exception was where Bobby told David to stop. This trailer was equally as old as the others, but it was obvious some care had been lavished on it, and the small garden surrounding it was neat and tidy. Bobby looked very apprehensive as they walked towards the door.
"I would have guessed this one was your parents Bobby. It looks cared for."
Just right. David smiled internally as he saw Bobby relax.
They walked straight in so that David caught Bobby's parents in natural poses. They were sat cuddling on a bench seat watching a very small Black and White TV. He knew then he was going to like these parents.
"Mum, Dad, I'm home."
Both parents jumped up and engulfed their son in a family hug.
"Oh Bobby, it's so good to see you."
That was all his mother got out before bursting into tears, happy tears of course.
His Dad kissed his cheek and said, "Welcome home Son," before standing back and looking intently at David.
Bobby noticed and untangling himself from his mother looked at both parents.
"Mum, Dad, I'd like you to meet David Hanson. He is my coach and he's been looking after me."
Dad stuck his hand out and grasped David's.
"Welcome to our home Son. You are very welcome here."
David couldn't believe how friendly these people were. No wonder Bobby was such an amazing guy.
"Thank you Sir. I'm really pleased to meet you both."
"None of this Sir business. I'm Mike, and this is Samantha, Sam for short."
Greetings sorted they sat and chatted. No fancy drinks were offered, iced tea, coffee or water was it. David drank water. When Bobby had told his parents about his first semester at college, leaving out the detail of his rape and the monetary reward, David stepped in.
"Mike, Sam, Bobby has left out details of his hospitalisation and I'm not going to expand on it, but, the end of that was a happy one. He was awarded a good size pot of damages. The reason I have come with him this holiday is to help him sort out the spending of some of it."
Looking at Bobby, David said, "Do you want to tell them?"
"No, you tell them David, you will explain so much better than me."
"Ok. What we want to do is take you two round the realtors in town and find you a house that you like. Bobby wants to buy it for you and furnish it. He also wants to buy you a car Mike and then put a chunk of money in the bank for you to supplement your earnings."
Both parents were dumb struck for some time before Mike managed to choke out.
"We can't accept that, it's Bobby's money. It must be invested for his future."
David couldn't believe these people. They were being offered the opportunity to get out of this shit hole and were only interested in seeing their son secure.
"You have to Dad, there is plenty left over for me, and David is sure I'm going to be good enough to earn millions in sponsorship because I swim pretty well."
Mike was having difficulty breathing, as was Sam.
"Just how good is my son David?"
"It's a little early to be sure Mike, but I've never had a swimmer this good this early so I'm guessing a National Champion and maybe an Olympic Champion as well."
Mike was totally overcome with that statement. He turned towards Bobby, grabbed him in a hug and said.
"I love you so much Son and I'm so proud of you."
Another big family hug and three sets of wet eyes again.
"I know this is all a little bit much for you folks, but can I take you all out to dinner?"
Mike and Sam couldn't remember the last time they had been to a restaurant for dinner and looked stunned.
"We couldn't David. We have nothing suitable to wear."
"The hell you haven't. As long as there is money to pay for it you could go in sack cloth. Bobby, what say we take them to our hotel tonight and then go out to buy up the town for them tomorrow?"
"Oh yes, please Mum, please Dad, but David, it has to come out of my money."
David grinned, "We'll see."
The meal was great topped off by David ordering champagne to celebrate.
The next day was manic. Mike and Sam took a day's holiday, neither could remember ever doing that before, and went shopping for clothes. The first stops though were the three biggest realtors in town to scan through properties and make appointments to view the ones they liked. David was amazed how cheap even the most expensive properties were until he remembered that this was a little backwoods community.
The houses they booked to see were all under a ¼ million but had four bedrooms and a swimming pool. Mike and Sam couldn't believe they were going to have one of these.
Clothes shopping made David tear up at the joy he saw in Sam's face as she bought a complete wardrobe of new clothes. David began to realise then where Bobby got his looks, Sam was very attractive and Mike was no slouch either.
Clothes bought, David made a suggestion.
"Bobby, why don't you take your Mum to the beauty parlour and let her have a complete makeover, I'll take your Dad and we'll go to the men's parlour."
Bobby clicked straight away.
"Yeah, great idea David. We'll see you at the coffee shop in the hotel when we're finished."
The final touches rendered and their closest friends wouldn't have recognised Mike and Sam. Dinner at the best restaurant in town that night had David laughing his socks off. Both parents kept pointing out people they knew. It was, "Oh look, there's the Mayor", and "Mike, isn't that the boss of your company behind you?", Bobby loved it, he just knew his life had never been better.
The next day, sorting out the house they wanted was much easier than they thought. One of the houses was being sold fully furnished, and the furnishings were all in very good taste. Sam fell in love with the whole house. The kitchen was an absolute dream of modern equipment and the dining room had been equipped with beautiful cutlery, crystal glass and English Bone China.
"Oh David, this is beautiful. Can Bobby really afford this?"
Bobby grabbed her and dancing her round the dining room, in a sing song voice said, "Yes Mum and another dozen besides if you want them."
The realtor was amazed at this young man who it had clicked with him was the swimmer who had gone away to college that summer
David stood in front of him and spoke.
"How quickly can his parents move into this house if it's a cash deal?"
A little flustered, but the realtor checked his paper work, saw that surveys and searches had already been carried out and was able to say.
"One week max."
"Bobby, if Mom and Dad want this house they can move in by this time next week."
That was it. The next week was a whirlwind of activity in the McKinley family. Both parents took two weeks of overdue holidays. Mike got a new Cadillac, and before anyone knew it they were in the house unpacking all their new clothes, and the boys their cases. Then the problem hit. Bobby wanted to sleep with David, they had been at the hotel and Bobby loved cuddling his coach every night. Of course, their lovemaking was now on a different plain so that Ecstasy was a word that came to Bobby's mind every time they did it.
"What are we going to do David, I want to sleep with you all the time?"
"You can only do that my love if you tell them you are gay and I'm your lover."
Bobby went white, but thought about it.
"I'll do it. Will you come with me?"
"Of course."
That was it. Into the lounge with Mike and Sam in tow.
"Mum, and Dad, please don't interrupt until I'm finished."
He looked at David then, who gave him an encouraging smile.
"When I first got to uni I nearly had to leave again straight away because my swimming commitment meant I didn't have enough time to work and cover my academic programme. David pulled lots of strings that got me off the hook, put money in my pocket every week, furnished a new wardrobe for me and a new computer. He really looked after me big time. Then, when I ended up in hospital it was David that was clever enough to get me this huge sum of damages that has allowed me to extend my time at uni, buy us all the good things we have now and leave a huge sum of money in the bank for my future security. Because of how good he has been to me I realised I was falling in love with him. Lucky for me it was reciprocated. What I am saying is David and I are gay, and we're lovers. Please don't be upset. I work super hard for both of you to be proud of me, but I put in that extra bit for David. I want him to have an Olympic Champion on his hands. I know I am going to love him always and he hasn't influenced me at all. I've never liked girls very much and it just needed someone like David to come along for me to realise why."
Bobby held his breath then, gripping his hands together so hard, it hurt.
Mike looked between the two young men in front of him, and then at Sam.
"What do you think Ma?"
Sam took Mike's hand.
"I hope our son hasn't disappointed you Mike, because he hasn't disappointed me. He has picked a good man to be his partner and that makes me proud as well."
Mike grinned. "I'm so pleased you feel like that because I thought the same thing." Then looking at David continued, "I guess that means David, you had better call us Mum and Dad from now on."
Bobby, of course, burst into tears that soon stopped when David took him in his arms and kissed them away.
"Thanks Mum and Dad, I promise I'll look after him for you."
There was now only a couple of days to Christmas so at David's behest Bobby gave his parents one early present so that they could all go their separate ways to buy presents and food and drink for the festival days.
"Mum, Dad, this is an early present so that we can do all our Christmas shopping."
With that he handed his Dad a check for $100,000. Mike spluttered out a strangled, "I can't take that."
Bobby started to cry. "Please Dad, you have to, honestly I have plenty more."
Mike looked at David who just nodded.
"Ok son."
"Mike, Bobby wants you to use that to enjoy yourselves, don't just stick it into the bank and leave it."
"Oh yes Dad, you have to use it for a good time. Honestly I have plenty more, don't I David?"
"Yes Lover, I won't let you run short."
Mike was blown away, but what a Christmas they had.
