BoysLife - Episode Seven
Trevor Keiser pulled his car into his driveway, his heart beating in his ears. It felt like ages since he'd seen his house. He looked at his watch 6:11 AM.
"Good," He said softly to himself, getting out of the car, and grabbing his bookbag out of the backseat. He wanted to surprise his boyfriend, Jason Harmon, and their two other roommates. He knew that none of them would be awake at this hour, which made his plan perfect to pull off. He had booked an extremely early flight back from Chicago, hoping to come in early enough to crawl into bed with Jason and see the look on his face as he woke up to see Trevor laying there next to him.
He unlocked the door and crept into the house as quietly as he could. Hearing nothing but silence, he closed the door softly and made his way up the stairs. He went straight to the bedroom he shared with Jason and pushed open the door.
He was quite surprised to see the bed was empty. He set his bag on the floor, thinking hard. He had seen Jason's car in front of the house, so he must be here. Unless someone picked him up, and he went someplace to spend the night.
Trevor went out of his bedroom and down the hall to the next room. It belonged to Josh Maxwell, Jason's cousin. He opened the door a crack and peeked in. Josh was sound asleep, with some guy Trevor had never seen before curled up next to him. Trevor shut the door, puzzled. He continued down the hall to the next room, belonging to their roommate Perry Adamson.
Opening the door a crack, and peeking in, he saw Perry in his bed, sleeping, with what looked to be another person laying beside him, but Trevor couldn't tell who it was. It looked like.... but it couldn't be...
He crept silently into the room, just enough to peek over Perry and see who was in bed with him. It took all the strength inside of him not to curse when he realized that it was indeed Jason.
Trevor stared at the two of them, sleeping in the same bed together. They didn't look as cozy and romantic as Josh and the guy he had been sleeping with did. But it confused him all the same.
Shaking his head in despair, Trevor retreated out of Perry's room and returned to his own bedroom. Alone, he pulled off his shoes and crawled into the covers. He glanced over and saw a picture of him and Jason on the little table beside the bed. He picked it up and looked at it. Why did coming home seem so different to him? He could tell there was something going on, and he had a feeling he wasn't going to like it.
Jason Harmom woke with a start. He glanced over at Perry's clock. It was 7:28. He looked over at Perry, who was still sound asleep.
But Jason couldn't get back to sleep. Something didn't feel right to him. He slowly got up and out of the bed, and made his way quietly downstairs. In the kitchen he poured himself a glass if milk, sipped it a few times, and then went into the living room to turn on the T.V.
As he was about to sit down on the sofa, something outside the window caught his eye. He went to the window and pulled back the curtains to get a better view.
"What the..." He said to himself. Trevor's car was sitting in the driveway. Jason set his glass down on the table and ran upstairs to his bedroom. Sure enough, he found Trevor in their bed, asleep.
Jason didn't know whether to scream or jump on top of Trevor. Luckily he didn't have to worry about making a decision, because Trevor's eyes popped open and he jumped up.
"Jason!" Trevor said excitedly, throwing his arms around Jason. Jason toppled back, and almost fell over.
"Hey!" Jason said, pushing Trevor away.
"I'm sorry," Trevor said, pulling back for a moment, and then coming in for a kiss.
Jason kept his eyes open and kissed Trevor only half-aware of what was happening. His head was spinning. He hadn't expected Trevor to come home until Tuesday and from the looks of it he had been home for some time.
"Aren't you excited to see me?" Trevor asked, pulling away again.
"Well, yeah," Jason said with a shrug, thrusting his hands in his pockets. "It's just..." He paused. "There's been a lot of stuff going on since you've been gone, and I've been very confused."
"I could see that," Trevor said, sitting down on the bed.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jason asked sharply.
"I saw you in there with Perry this morning," Trevor said. "You two looked quite smug sleeping together."
"Trevor, it wasn't like that at all," Jason said. "Do you honestly think just because you were gone that I'd throw myself at Perry?"
"I don't know, is that what you did?" Trevor asked.
"Of course not!" Jason said. his voice getting louder. "If you were here you would have known what was going on!"
"Jason, I..." Trevor started.
Jason cut him off. "And why the hell did you go to Chicago in the first place?"
Trevor stared at him. "Jason, I told you..."
"Bull shit!" Jason said. "If you went to go visit your Aunt then why the hell did you keep it such a secret from me?"
"Well maybe I was doing something good for the both of us and I wanted to surprise you!" Trevor said loudly, standing up.
"Well what?" Jason asked, folding his arms across his chest. "Just tell me Trevor!"
Trevor sighed, and then slowly sat back down. "Come here," He said, holding out his hand to Jason. Jason took it and sat next to Trevor on the bed, facing him, a little bit apart.
"I have a good friend of mine who works in a big recording studio in Chicago," Trevor said. "He also runs helps do some of the sound equipment for a television show called Rising Stars. It's kind of like a talent search kind of show."
"I've seen it," Jason said coldly.
"Well, my friend called me about a month ago and asked me to come out and visit," Trevor said. "They're always looking for new talent to showcase on the show, and he wanted me to come see what they do. When I heard that Grandma was going to visit Aunt Martha, I called my friend and told him I'd come out."
"So you set the whole thing up?" Jason said, raising an eyebrow.
Trevor nodded slowly. "Yeah, kind of. I asked Grandma if she'd like some company on her trip, and she was so excited that I asked her that she offered to pay for me."
"So it wasn't some big deal that she had no one to go with?" Jason asked.
"No," Trevor said. "I said that to make it seem more desperate that I go."
"Why didn't you just tell me?" Jason asked.
"Because I knew you wouldn't let me do what I wanted to do," Trevor said.
"And what was that?" Jason asked.
"How would you like to go be on Rising Stars?" Trevor asked.
"What?" Jason asked in confusion.
"I took my friend your vocal demo tape," Trevor said. "He was very impressed and took it to the producers of the show. They loved it, and I got the information you need to fill out, and then you'll be on your way."
Jason didn't say anything. He didn't know what to say.
"I think it'll be a great opportunity for you," Trevor said. "What do you think?"
"I don't know," Jason said, getting up off the bed and walking out of the room.
Josh was in the kitchen, drinking a cup of coffee at the island, when Jason came in, looking frustrated.
"So Trevor's home huh?" Josh asked, sipping his coffee.
"Yeah," Jason said, sitting on a stool next to his cousin. "I should be happy and all, but something's weird about it. I don't know what's up with me."
"I don't think anything's wrong with you Jay," Josh said. "He left in confusion, it's only right that he comes back to the same confusion."
"Yeah, but it's still weird," Jason said. He sighed. "So where's Mark?"
"Upstairs, sleeping," Josh said, standing up. "I didn't want to wake him so early."
"Did you have sex with him last night?" Jason asked.
Josh looked at his cousin in amazement. "Where did that come from?" He said with a small laugh.
"I saw you guys sleeping together and I thought..." Jason said.
"You saw us?" Josh asked.
"Your light was on last night and I wanted to shut it off," Jason said. "When I opened your door, I saw you guys in bed together."
"Oh I see," Josh said, nodding slowly. "Well, whether or not Mark and I had sex or not is none of your business, now is it?" He gave Jason a smile and went out of the room. He went upstairs, and into his bedroom, where Mark was still in bed. As soon as Josh came into the room and shut the door, Mark opened his eyes.
"How long have you been awake?" Josh asked, sitting down on the bed next to Mark.
"Just a few minutes," Mark said. "I didn't feel like getting out of your bed, so I closed my eyes for a little while."
Josh leaned down and kissed Mark softly on the lips. Mark wrapped his arms around Josh's neck, pulling him closer. They kissed for a good while, and then parted.
"Do you think this is going too fast?" Josh asked, looking Mark in the eyes. "I mean, we just met face to face a few days ago."
"It feels right to me," Mark said. "You and I just clicked. I'm happy with the way things have gone."
"But last night..." Josh said. "I've never had sex with someone that close to meeting them."
"We didn't really have sex Josh," Mark said. He said up in the bed. "I mean, yeah, we were doing some pretty amazing things together, but we didn't shove our dicks up each other's asses or anything."
"Yeah," Josh said. "It felt right. I just don't want things getting out of hand."
"I don't think either of us will let that happen," Mark said.
Josh nodded. "So we're definitely agreeing to take this relationship to the next level?"
"The boyfriend level?" Mark asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That sounds weird," Josh said with a small laugh. "I haven't had a boyfriend for a while."
"I think it sounds kind of nice me," Mark said with a smile.
Josh put his arms around Mark. "Yeah, it sounds wonderful."
After Josh left the kitchen, Jason sat there, thinking. He was happy that Trevor was home, it had been strange without him around. But within all the strangeness, he had been happy. After the good-bye and his crazy emotions over that, his few days without Trevor by his side were not spent in vain. It showed him just how much he could live without Trevor and still be happy.
And then there was the fact that Trevor had lied to him so that he could get Jason on Rising Stars. More than anything, Jason wished that Trevor had spared that mysteriousness and just told him the real reason he was going to Chicago. He probably would have argued with Trevor about going, but in the end, Trevor most likely would have went, and the outcome would have been the same. Jason wasn't sure if he really wanted to go be on the show, though. He didn't think he sang all that great, even though Trevor and the guys all thought so. He hadn't really sang in front of people, except for a few rounds of karaoke at a local bar he and Trevor had went to a few times. But Jason loved adventure, and being on the show would be a real adventure for him.
Plus, he couldn't have an attitude when Trevor made a special effort to surprise him and come home early. With a sigh he got up and went back upstairs. Trevor was unpacking his bookbag when Jason went into the room.
Trevor looked up at Jason standing by the door, but said nothing. He kept unpacking his bag. Neither of them said anything for a moment.
"I'm sorry," Jason said softly, breaking the silence.
Trevor looked at him again. Then he put down his bag and came over to where Jason was standing. "Yeah, I'm sorry too Jason, I know I freaked you out rushing off like I did."
"Yeah, you did," Jason said.
"It feels so good to be home with you," Trevor said, wrapping his arms around Jason. "I've missed you so much, it's been awful."
Jason held Trevor close. "I hate to say it, but I didn't miss you too much," He said.
"Gee you know how to ruin a mood," Trevor said jokingly, taking Jason's hand and sitting down on the bed, pulling Jason to sit beside him.
"I'm sorry to sound so mean," Jason said. "But I've been so pre-occupied with everything else going on, my mind didn't stay on you too much."
"That's good then," Trevor said. "I couldn't stop thinking about you for one moment. I couldn't wait to come home and surprise you."
Jason gave him a little smile. "I wish you would have at least told me the truth, and not played that stupid game with me."
"I know, I know," Trevor said. "I hope you can forgive me for that, it was really stupid."
"I forgive you," Jason said, leaning over to give Trevor a quick kiss.
"So," Trevor said. "Why don't you come help me get my bags out of the car and while we unpack you can update me on things back here?"
"Okay," Jason said, standing up and following Trevor out of the room.
Sabrina Harmom dialed her brother's phone number. She was shocked when Trevor answered the phone.
"So you're back already?" She asked.
"Yeah, I came back early to surprise Jay," Trevor said. "It didn't work out too well though," He added with a small laugh.
"Oh," Sabrina said. "Well, is he around, can I talk to him?"
"Sure, hang on," Trevor said. There was muffed sounds for a moment and then Jason came on the line.
"Hey there," He said to Sabrina. "What's up?"
"Nothing much," Sabrina said. "So I guess you got a little surprise this morning, huh?"
"A little surprise?" Jason asked. "It was a bit more than that. But I understand what happened a little more, why he left like he did and all."
"I'd love to hear it all," Sabrina said.
"I'll give you the scoop sometime soon," Jason said.
"So what are you going to do about your attraction to Perry?" Sabrina asked.
"What?" Jason asked, puzzled.
"Come on Jason, I'm your sister!" Sabrina said. "I notice things. You can't tell me you didn't feel drawn closer to Perry through all he's been through. Or were you just using him like a cushion until Trevor came back?"
"No, it wasn't like that at all," Jason said, glancing up at Trevor, who was smiling at him. He then walked out of the room and across the hall to the computer room. "I feel a lot closer to Perry than I did before," He said, shutting the door behind him. "But there's nothing between us sis, trust me."
"I'm just looking out for you Jason," Sabrina said. "You two looked awfully close at the club last night."
"We were just having fun!" Jason insisted. "Why all these questions all the sudden?"
"Because I care," Sabrina said. "I don't want Perry getting the wrong impression, and I don't want you going along blinded by the obvious."
"You think I should break up with Trevor to be with Perry?" Jason asked.
"I didn't say that," Sabrina said. "I just think there is an attraction between the two of you guys and you need to work it out."
Jason paused for a moment. "I know things have been different with Trevor gone, it definitely opened the door for me to get to know Perry a lot better. I care about him a lot."
"My point exactly," Sabrina said.
"Okay, you got me there," Jason admitted. "But I'm telling you, it's nothing more than that."
"All right," Sabrina said. "I'll believe you."
"Thanks," Jason said.
"Do you mind if I stop by tonight?" Sabrina asked. "I'd like to talk to you some more, and besides, I don't have any plans anyway."
"Sure, I don't mind," Jason said.
"Okay," Sabrina said. "Well, I need to get going now. I'll see you sometime tonight then, all right?"
"Sounds good to me," Jason said.
"'Bye!" Sabrina said, hanging up the phone.
Jason pressed the power button on the phone, turning it off. Then he went back into the bedroom with Trevor.
"Sabrina's going to stop by later tonight," He said, sitting down on the bed.
"Okay," Trevor said, shutting a dresser drawer. He came over and crawled onto the bed, sitting behind Jason and wrapping his arms around him. "I have an idea," He whispered into Jason's ear, gently brushing his lips against Jason's earlobe.
"What's that?" Jason asked softly.
Trevor reached his hands inside Jason's shirt, pulling it up a little bit. "Why don't we go take a nice hot shower together."
"Sounds nice," Jason said. Trevor began kissing the side of Jason's neck, and Jason closed his eyes, falling into the moment, and remembering how much he cared about Trevor, and how things had always been between them. He didn't want to lose that, but he couldn't deny the passion that filled his heart for Perry.
Perry. The name brought his face to Jason's mind, but he forced it out, concentrating on Trevor. He was going to have a nice reunion with his boyfriend, and he was going to enjoy it, even if he had to fight his way through it.
Perry had to get out of the house. He felt so out of place. Now that Trevor had come home, Jason was dealing with that, and Josh was with Mark, so Perry had no reason to be there, and he did not want to be there. So he had gotten into his truck and driven to the mall. As he was walking alone, he noticed the store where Josh worked, and he saw their friend, Amy Martin, inside.
Perry went inside and waited while Amy finished with her customers. Then he went up to her and said hi.
"Hey there Perry!" Amy said, giving him a big hug. "You look like you need to talk."
"Yeah," He said softly, as she let go of him. "It's been a wild morning."
Amy looked at her watch. "Let me go ask if I can take my break now and I'll come get a cup of coffee with you or something."
"You don't have to do that Amy," Perry said.
Amy gave him a look. "I want to do it. I know how it feels to need someone to talk to. I'll be back." She went into the back of the store, returning a few moments later with her purse. "Let's go," She said, leading him out of the store and out into the mall.
"I hope I'm not making you take your break at a bad time," Perry said, falling into step beside Amy.
"Oh hush boy!" She said, looking at him with a smile. "So what's up? What's on your mind?'
"It's Jason," Perry said. "Trevor came back home this morning."
"Oh that's a surprise!" Amy said. "Did Jason know about it?"
"No," Perry said. "It scared the hell out of him."
Amy laughed. "You wanna get a cappuccino and a cinnamon bun from Sticky Fingers?"
Perry shrugged. "Sure." He followed her into the food court area, where she ordered the cappuccinos and cinnamon buns, and then she insisted on paying.
"If I was thinking more clearly I'd argue with you," Perry said.
"But you know better than to mess with a girl when she says she's paying," Amy said, winking at him as she gave the cashier the money.
The two of them got their food and went and sat down at a table.
"So what's up? Amy asked.
Perry shook his head. "Too much."
"I've got some time," Amy said, looking at her watch. "Spit it out."
"It's Jason," Perry said after a moment's pause. "I never thought I'd feel so close to him."
"Explain," Amy said.
Perry told her about the way he had gotten close to Jason with Trevor away. He told her about the talks, going to the club, and about how Jason came and slept in his bed with him. He admitted that he had let himself begin to have strong feelings for Jason, even though he knew Jason was in love with Trevor and that they were happy together.
"I don't think you did anything wrong Perry," Amy said. "I think you had every right to feel the way you did."
"But it's not just a way I felt," Perry said. He paused. "I still feel really strongly about Jason. It's like we started this small fire and I can feel it burning more and more inside."
"Well have you talked to him about it?" Amy asked.
Perry shook his head. "No, I can't. Trevor just came home today, it wouldn't be a good time to bring it up."
"When will be a good time?" Amy asked. "I think now is as good a time as any. And since Trevor did just get back, maybe Jason is still trying to figure things out himself."
Perry shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. I never thought something like this would happen."
Amy smiled. "Well I think it's cute."
"Gee thanks," Perry said.
"I hope things work out for your Perry," Amy said. "One way or the other."
"Yeah, I hope so too," Perry said.
After their shower, Trevor laid down to take a nap. Jason laid with him for a little bit, but was not sleepy at all, and decided to get something to eat. When he got downstairs, Josh and Mark were just walking out the door.
"Where are you guys off to?" He asked, following them outside to the steps.
"I'm going over to Mark's house for a little bit," Josh said. "What about you? What are your plans for today?"
"I called off work, so I'll be here all day," Jason said. "Sabrina's gonna stop by later, so I guess I'll be okay."
"You look worried about something," Josh said, looking back over his shoulder. Mark had already gotten into his car.
"Yeah," Jason said. "This whole Trevor thing is driving me crazy. I just don't know what to think."
"Did he explain his going away?" Josh asked.
Jason nodded. "He did, but that's the thing that's bugging me. I don't know if I believe him or not."
"Well check up on it," Josh said. "You're smart Jay, if you really want to know the truth, you'll figure it out." He gave his cousin a hug and then went down to Mark's car and got in. Jason watched them pull away, and then went back into the house.
Trevor said that he wanted to try and get Jason onto Rising Stars. And he had taken Jason's demo tape to give to somebody there. That gave Jason an idea. He ran upstairs and turned the computer on, and dialed into the Internet. Finding the Rising Stars website, he found a contact number and scribbled it onto a piece of paper. Then he signed off and picked up the phone. He dialed the number, his hand shaking.
"Hello, and thank you for calling the Rising Stars talent showcase," An automated voice greeted him. "For Customer Service, press one." Jason pressed one. "Please hold for an opperator," He heard. He waited.
"Thanks for you call," A female voice said. "This is Tammy, how may I help you?"
"Hi, my name is Jason Harmon," Jason said. "Um, recently a friend of mine dropped off a demo tape to someone there for screening, and I was just wondering how that process was going."
"Sure, hold on one second," Tammy said. She put him on hold, and he heard soft orchestra music in his ear. After a long wait, she came back. "You said your name was Harmon right?"
"Yes thats right," Jason said.
"I don't have you on any of our files," She said.
"Is there any way the tape could have not been put on file?" Jason asked.
"No, we require everything that comes in to be screened and put on computer files," Tammy said. "If someone from this company had gotten it, they would have put it into the computer."
"I see," Jason said. "Well, thank you for your time." He hung up, his head spinning. Trevor had lied to him again. He didn't understand what was happening to him. Trevor was running on thin ice now, and Jason wanted the truth. And he was going to do whatever he had to do to get it.
Later that evening Jason was left in the house all by himself. Perry had gone to work, and Trevor had wakened up from his nap saying that he had to go to the studio to do some things. Jason didn't try to argue with him, and Trevor left without much thought about Jason being all alone.
He was curled on the sofa, clutching a pillow and watching a movie, when there was a knock on the door and then Sabrina walked in.
"You guys really should lock your door!" She said, coming in and closing it behind her. "All alone?" She asked, coming into the living room.
Jason nodded. "Yeah."
Sabrina sat down next to her brother. "You look distant. What's up?"
"The thing with Trevor is just crazy," Jason said. "He told me one of the reasons he went was to try and get me on the show Rising Stars."
Sabrina raised her eyebrows. "That sounds phony to me."
"It was," Jason said. "I called there and they told me they didn't have me in their computers at all, and if he would have given them my tape, I would have been in the computer."
Sabrina shook her head. "I told you Jay. Something is not right with Trevor. I know you loved him and all, and I really cared about him too. But he's playing games and it's not right."
"I just feel so... stupid," Jason said.
"Well don't," Sabrina said, putting her arms around her brother. He started to cry, something he'd been holding in for the past few hours, ever since Trevor came home really.
"Jason we're gonna get through this," Sabrina said, holding Jason close and stroking his hair. "You know I'm here for you."
It was at that moment that Josh walked in the door. "Hey guys!" He said loudly, and then saw Jason and Sabrina on the couch.
"What happened?" He asked softly, coming into the room. "Did you check on the Rising Stars thing Jay?"
Sabrina looked at Josh and nodded.
"It wasn't true" Josh said, shaking his head. "That makes me mad." He put his hand on Jason's shoulder. "It's okay man, we're going to figure this whole thing out."
Jason looked up and wiped his eyes. Josh grabbed him some tissues and handed them to him.
"Why is this happening to me?" Jason asked. "I thought things with me and Trevor were going good."
"Shh..." Sabrina said softly. "Don't start blaming yourself Jay."
"Yeah we still don't know exactly what happened," Josh said. "But believe me, we're gonna find out."
"I don't want you guys to say anything to Trevor," Jason said, blowing his nose. "I want to give it some time."
"Jason how can you push this aside?" Sabrina asked. "Remember what I've been asking you about Perry? Maybe all this is happening now for a reason."
"Perry?" Josh asked, sitting in a chair, his eyebrow raised. "What about Perry?"
"You know a little bit of it already Josh," Jason said. He turned to his sister. "I'm not pushing it away, I just want to sort this all through one piece at a time. The only thing I know right now is that Trevor lied to me about the Rising Stars thing."
"But that was his whole explination for going away!" Sabrina said. "Jason I don't understand."
"I'm just really confused," Jason said, putting his head in his hands. "I don't know what to do," He said, his voice muffled from talking into his chest.
"How are you going to get the whole truth out of him then?" Sabrina asked, as her brother sat up again.
Jason shook his head. "I don't know. If he's lied to me this much already, then who knows what else he's gonna say?"
Sabrina looked at Josh and sighed.
"Can I ask you something personal Jay?" Josh asked. Jason nodded. "How can you still be with Trevor after you know he's created a mess like this? How can you still trust him?"
"I don't know," Jason said softly. "I just don't know what to think." He stood up. "I think I'm going to go lay down for a while."
"Are you gonna be okay?" Sabrina asked, taking his hand. "Do you want me to come be with you?"
Jason shook his head. "No I just want to be alone for a little while." He left the room.
Josh and Sabrina sat in silence, listening to the sound of Jason's slow footsteps as he walked up the stairs. Then they heard him quietly shutting his door and the click of the lock.
"Did you ever think it would come to this?" Josh asked, looking at his cousin.
"No," Sabrina said. "Jason and Trevor always seemed so happy together, so perfect for each other."
"I guess there's some sides of Trevor he's kept hidden from us," Josh said.
"But what I don't understand is why now?" Sabrina said. "Why all of the sudden is Trevor pulling this stuff?"
Josh shrugged. "Who knows?" He looked at his watch. "I guess I'd better go see what I can come up with for dinner tonight."
"I'll help you," Sabrina said, standing up and following her cousin quietly into the kitchen.
Perry walked into the house to the smell of chicken and bread baking. He went into the kitchen where Sabrina and Josh were putting food on the table.
"Looks like I'm just in time," Perry said, throwing his jacket over the back of a chair.
Sabrina set a basket of warm dinner rolls on the table, and then gave Perry a quick hug. "Yeah, we whipped up something real quick for dinner tonight."
"Where's Jason?" Perry asked.
"He's upstairs in his room resting," Josh said. "I'm gonna go get him." He left the room.
"How was work?" Sabrina asked, sitting down next to Perry at the table.
"It was okay," Perry said. "Same as usual."
"I know the feeling," Sabrina said, taking a sip of her ice water.
Josh came back into the room alone. "Jason says he isn't hungry." He said as he sat down.
"Jason not hungry?" Perry asked. "Is he sick or something?"
"He's fine," Sabrina said. "I'm sure he'll eat something later."
Perry noticed Josh and Sabrina giving each other glances. He didn't say anything, but he knew something was up. He decided to change the subject. "I saw Amy today," He said.
"Really?" Josh asked. "I kind of miss her. I haven't seen her since Saturday."
"Yeah I went to lunch with her today," Perry said. "We talked a lot. It was nice."
"Yeah she really is a great listener," Josh said.
The phone rang, interrupting their conversation. "I'll get it guys," Sabrina said. "It might freak someone out hearing a female answer this phone," She giggled and then picked up the phone. "Hello?" She said.
"Um, yeah, is Trevor there?" A male voice asked. Not one that Sabrina recognized either.
"No he's not here now," Sabrina said. "May I ask who's calling?"
There was a pause. "Well, I'm... a friend," The guy said. "Do you know when he's going to come home?"
"I have no idea," Sabrina said. "If you tell me your name I can have him call you back."
Another pause. "No thats okay, I'll try back." Click. The phone went dead.
Sabrina hung up, a puzzled look on her face.
"Someone for Trevor?" Perry asked.
Sabrina nodded. "I have no clue who it was though, and they certainly didn't want me to know."
"That's why they made Caller I.D," Josh said, getting up and going into the living room. He came back in shaking his head. "It was unavailable."
"Strange," Perry said.
They ate the rest of their meal in near silence. When they were done, Perry went upstairs and knocked on Jason's bedroom door. "Jay, it's Perry, are you okay?"
There was no answer. Perry tried the door, but it was locked. "Jason, please open the door," He said.
After a moment there was a small click and then the door opened. Jason stood there, looking tired, confused, and upset.
"Is everything all right?" Perry asked, following Jason into the room. Jason went to the window and looked out.
"He lied to me," Jason said. "He's playing with me like I'm some sort of toy."
"Who?" Perry asked.
"My so-called boyfriend," Jason said angrily.
"Trevor?" Perry asked. "What are you talking about Jason?"
"Everything," Jason said, turning to face Perry. "This whole Chicago thing. It was all a lie. I just can't deal with it anymore."
"I don't understand," Perry said.
"Neither do I," Jason said. "He said he went there to try and get me on that show Rising Stars. I called the show and they had no idea who I was. He's been sneaking around, hiding things from me, I just don't know how I can trust him anymore."
Perry thought back to the strange phone call just a few minutes earlier, but decided not to tell Jason about it. He also thought about the talk he had with Amy. He wanted to tell Jason so much, but he wasn't sure if now was a good time.
"Jason, you know I'm here for you no matter what," He said. "You helped me so much through my whole ordeal with Wade. I don't know how I would have made it without you."
Jason gave him a small smile. "Yeah, and you put up with me while Trevor was gone. It meant a lot to me."
"I think we grew closer these past few days Jason," Perry said. "I am really sorry about this whole thing with Trevor." He paused. "What are you going to do?"
"The only thing I can do," Jason said. "I'll give him one more chance to give me the truth, and if he won't, that's it for us."
Jason waited up that night until almost 2 AM before Trevor came home. Jason heard him come in the front door and then up the stairs a few moments later. He sat up on the bed where he had been laying, reading a book.
Trevor came into the room, a startled look on his face when he saw Jason still awake.
"You didn't have to wait up for me Jay," Trevor said, taking off his jacket and throwing it over a chair.
"I wanted to," Jason said. "That's the kind of thing boyfriends do for each other, right?"
Trevor let out a small chuckle. "Yeah I suppose so." He sat down on the bed next to Jason, trying to kiss him. Jason stood up quickly and went over to the desk.
"Were you at the studio all this time?" He asked, turning to face Trevor.
"Sure," Trevor said. "There was a lot of work to do."
Jason paused. He had called the studio earlier, after his talk with Perry, and they told him that Trevor had not been in at all. "Did you get all your work done?" Jason asked finally.
Trevor shrugged, as he began to unbutton his shirt. "Not really. I'll probably have to go back in tomorrow."
"I see," Jason said. He could feel his heartbeat rising. "Do you think I'm stupid Trevor?" He asked.
Trevor gave him a hard look. "Of course I don't think you're stupid Jay."
"Really?" Jason asked. "Well then you must not have thought that I'd figure this whole thing out."
"What are you talking about?" Trevor asked, removing his shirt.
"I'm talking about all of this crap!" Jason said. "You know, I called Rising Stars Trevor. Nice try, but I'm not buying it. And by the way, you weren't even at the studio at all today, I called there too."
"Jason, I..." Trevor started.
"I don't want to hear it Trevor!" Jason said, his voice rising. "I've had enough of your lies! I want the truth and I want it now!"
"Please, let me explain," Trevor said.
"You should have explained this to me a long time ago!" Jason yelled.
"I'm sorry Jason," Trevor said.
"I don't want to hear that!" Jason said. "You said you loved me!"
"I do love you," Trevor said.
"Well then how the hell can you treat me like a child?!" Jason asked angrily. "I want to know now, what were you doing all the way in Chicago?"
Trevor didn't say anything.
"Fine, I'm leaving!" Jason said harshly, not waiting any longer. He went to the night stand table to get the key to his parents' house.
"Wait!" Trevor said, trying to grab Jason's arm as he pulled the drawer. Jason jerked the drawer all the way out, sending it crashing to the floor. Something on the floor caught his eye. His snatched it up.
"What the heck is this?" He asked, pulling the airplane ticket out of the envelope. It was for a flight to Chicago, dated two days away. Jason could feel his head spinning.
"Jason," Trevor said.
"Trevor, it's over," Jason said. "I'm going to my parents house. Either you find another place to live or I will."
"Jason, please," Trevor said, as Jason grabbed his shoes and they key to his parents' house. "Let's talk about this."
"I'm sick of talking," Jason said. "I don't want to be with you one more minute." With that, he went out of the room, with Trevor on his heels. He did not look back as he went out the front door, got in his car and sped away.
