The Cabin by the Lake part II Chapter 6

After an exciting day at the courthouse, dinner at one of Bend's finest restaurants and on the drive home, the boys crashed and slept the whole way. When they arrived home, the boys were still out so Dennis and Kyle just let them sleep. Each of them lifted a boy in their arms and carried them into the house.

Mom said, "You had better wake the boys and have them use the bathroom, if you don't, I know someone who is going to have wet beds to take care of in the morning. One thing for certain it won't be me!"

"Ah, Mom, you are no fun at all. If the boys don't go back to sleep, we are going to throw them in bed with you and let them keep you awake for the rest of the night," said Dennis laughing.

"That's what you think, Buster!" said Mom trying hard not to laugh

"I think we will just have to take the chance, I sure don't want wet beds. Come on, Dennis grab your kid and lets head off to bed. Goodnight Mom!" said Kyle.

"Goodnight Mom. See you in the morning," Dennis said.

"Goodnight to both of you. Enjoy the joys of fatherhood! Just wait until they get sick and heave all over the place. When they do, I will pay Loretta a visit," laughed Mom.

Kyle and Dennis carried the boys upstairs, pulled their pants down and stood them in front of toilet and told them to pee. Much to their surprise they did and never did wake up. They carried the boys into their bedroom and put them in bed, clothes and all after slipping their shoes off..

"Kyle, let's hit the sack, There will be no monkey business tonight. If you try anything, it will be the guest room for you," said Dennis.

"Boy, this is a first. I didn't think that you were ever too tired for a quickie. Your hormones must be going in reverse," laughed Kyle. "I agree with you, I am exhausted mentally and physically. I think what we need most is a good nights sleep. This has certainly been a different day and one that we`ll remember the rest of our lives"

About ten the next morning, Mom sent Joel and Jeremy to get Dennis and Kyle out of bed. They ran into the room and pounced on the two sleeping men, much like a cat pouncing on a mouse.

"Hey, what is going on. What time is it anyway?" asked Denis very groggy.

"It is ten o'clock. Mom said you have slept long enough. Did you forget that we have to go into Bend today and sign those papers," asked Joel.

"Oh, my gosh. Thanks for coming and waking us," said Kyle.

"Does Mom know that you don't sleep in pjs. I bet she will have a fit when I tell her," shouted Jeremy and took off on the run.

“Mom! Mom! Dennis and Kyle didn't sleep in pajamas and Dennis's thingy was sticking straight up. I think you had better take a fly swatter and hit them on their bare butts," said Jeremy, all excited and jumping all around.

When Dennis and Kyle walked into the room Mom said " What do you guys have to say for yourself. Did you hear what he just said?” They didn't have to say anything because the faces were flaming red and they both looked like they were trying to find a hole to crawl into.

"The only thing I can say is that maybe we had better stop at Wal-Mart and buy some sleeping attire." said Kyle. Mom was just about to die laughing.

"The boys and I will get to pick them out!" laughed Mom. "Right boys."

"No way," said Dennis. "I know what you will get, long wooly long johns with no opening in the front or back doors because they have been sewn shut."

"Just you wait, Runt. We will get even. The very next time you run through the house with nothing on, you’ll be the one to get the fly swatter." laughed Kyle.

"You wouldn't hit a poor little innocent kid, would you? Said Jeremy trying to look completely innocent.

“Yes, especially if we have to wear long, scratchy, wooly underwear. I think we will get you some just like you pick out for us." laughed Kyle.

"I agree." said Dennis.

"Ok, Ok. Pick out you own pjs but be sure to get some with bottoms. No short T-shirts allowed either." said Joel.

"Have you two little boys learned your lesson?" Mom said laughing very hard.

"Yes, Ma'am. We promise to be good!" Kyle said. Dennis could only nod his head because he was laughing to hard to say anything.

"I hate to break up this fun session but we need to do the chores and head for Bend. I think someone slept in too late," said Dennis. ***** "Kyle and Dennis, changing your name to the same as your adopted sons is highly irregular. It is usually the other way around. However, a person can change their name to anything they want as long it is not for fraudulent intentions or they are trying to hide from the law. There are a few other reasons but your case does not fall into any of those categories. I think you both will want to keep your original birth certificates. You will probably need them for Social Security purposes, passports and the likes. A person can change their name by themselves but is easier have a judge sign the request forms and therefore a reason or reasons may not be required.. Given the fact that you are domestic partners is another good reason to have your names the same. This will allow you to have identification showing the same last name. Hence, it might be easier to claim family ie brothers. This may solve some of the problems on down the road such as hospital

visitation by family members only. Do either of you have any questions before we go on?" asked Judge Riley.

"I don't do, you Kyle?" asked Dennis.

“I only have one. Since Dennis is under 21 will this make a difference?" Asked Kyle.

"It can be done but it would be a lot easier and faster if his dad could sign giving his ok and have proof that he is Dennis's father, i.e. Dennis's birth certificate, family bible notarized statement by a older family member or whatever. He could drop in later and sign the paperwork," said Judge Riley.

"I could giveDad a call and maybe he could come in today and would be here in about an hour and a half. Judge Riley are you free for lunch. We would like to take you to lunch, your choice of restaurants of course." said Dennis.

"As a matter of fact, I am free until 3:00. I think that I would like pizza. I know that the boys would like that. We could go to Pappy's because they have a terrific pizza and salad bar plus a game room for the boys or anyone interested in playing games." responded Judge Riley.

"Boys, how about pizza at Pappy's?" asked Dennis.

Both Joel and Jeremy started dancing around the room, squealing with delight.

"All I can say is that you two know how to wind those kids up and push the start button. However, I wouldn't want it any other way." laughed Mom.

“I agree with Mom. It makes me feel good and I know I didn't make a mistake when I signed the adoption papers," smiled Judge Riley. Off to Pappy's went the happy group. After filling themselves with pizza and salad , the boys were released to head for the game room. After about an half an hour , Judge Riley received a phone call. "Dennis your father is waiting in my office. That was my secretary calling to let us know that he had arrived."

"Kyle and I will round up the boys and meet you in the car in a few.” Dennis said.

When the group reached the office, the boys ran to Jim and Terry and grabbed them around the neck and wouldn't let go. Jim and Terry just picked them up and held them for a few minutes. Now the boys started talking non-stop at the same time. All Jim and Terry did was beam with pride. It was very evident that they were very satisfied with the adoption of the boys.

Judge Riley said, “Jim and Terry, I told Dennis and Kyle awhile ago how happy and pleased I was to have handled this case and signed the final papers. Now, you two come in here and reinforces all my good feelings."

"Thanks Judge! These kids are not adopted because they are our grandsons! Love you boys." said Jim kissing Joel on the cheek. Jeremy received a big kiss from Terry.

Jim signed all the paperwork and they left Judge Riley's office. They went to the parking lot and were getting ready to leave. "Hey, guys. Terry and I are going home with you and stay all night unless you have something else planned," said Jim.

"Hey, that is just great. Dennis and I are planning on going to a horse sale in Madras tomorrow but we talk when we get home." said Kyle.

"Can we ride home with Grandpa Jim and Grandpa Terry?" asked Joel.

"Are you asking if you are able to or do you want permission?" asked Dennis.

"Whoops, sorry Dad. I meant `May" we ride home with them," replied Joel

"Yes, you may. Dad, just remember no stopping at the DQ!" said Dennis.

"When my grandkids are with me, I am going to spoil them rotten. We'll stop if we want! Right Boys?" Jim said laughing.

"Yes!" yelled both boys.
