Cant Let It Go Chapter 10

I got out of my car and headed towards the football field. I could already hear the loud cheers and yelling. Everyone in the stands was standing and loudly clapping their hands. An occasional whistle came along with the loud chanting of "Go Panthers!"

While football wasn't that big at our school, many people still went to the games on Fridays. It was mostly just a good time to hang out with all your friends. I reached the football field twenty minutes after the game had started. Our team wasn't that great and it was almost assured we would lose this time since we were playing a much better team. I headed over to the stands, which were full of the cheering high schoolers and a few parents.

I found a few of my friends sitting near the front. Jake and Bryan were both sitting and shouting at the players. But what caught my attention was Karen and Zac sitting next to them and talking in low voices to each other. I wondered what they were talking about. Did Karen know what was going on with Zac? I was going to see what they were up to but I was stopped by someone grabbing my arm from behind. I turned around to see that it was Ashley all dressed up in her cheerleading uniform. Behind her were Rachel and Hannah.

"Kyle! You're here! Why are you so late?" Ashley exclaimed.

"Hey! I just had some stuff to take care of," I replied. I didn't want to mention anything about how I had been frustratingly trying to figure myself out after the kiss with Zac. I wasn't even sure if I was ready to tell her anything about Zac yet.

"Well Jake and the crew are sitting over there," Ashley said as she pointed to where I had seen my friends sitting.

"Come on Ashley, we have to get back," said Rachel as she grabbed Ashley's arm.

"Well, see you in a bit!" yelled Ashley before she went back to where the rest of cheerleaders were getting ready for a cheer.

I headed over to the stands where my friends were sitting. To my disappointment, Zac and Karen had stopped talking. Karen was now chatting with Bryan while Zac was just sitting and watching the game.

"Hey guys!" I said when I got to the front section of the stands.

"Kyle, you're here!" said Jake and we bumped our knuckles together.

Bryan and Karen also said hi and I then looked around for a place to sit down but there was only an empty spot next to Zac. I hesitated but then tried to sit down as inconspicuously as possible. Zac also seemed to be trying his best to not look over at me and seemed focused on what was happening on the football field.

I really didn't know what to say to him but I knew I had to say something quickly or it would be really awkward.

"Hey," I said slowly.

Zac turned his head towards me. He didn't say anything and only studied my face. I managed to give him a weak smile.

"So I guess I should say I'm sorry about before," I continued.

"Kyle, seriously, don't lead me on if you're not really interested in me," Zac replied quietly.

I looked around to make sure that no one would be listening then I turned to Zac. I needed to set some things straight.

"No, it's not like that. I just... It was just the first time I have seriously kissed a guy. It felt great but it was just really different. I wasn't even thinking when I kissed you. It just kind of happened and I guess I wasn't exactly prepared for it."

"Do really want to be with me, Kyle?"

"I do, Zac. I do want to be with you. I think the whole problem is just that you already have feelings for me and I'm just seeing you for the first time."

"Seeing me for the first time?"

"Yeah. The truth is that I never even thought about you in that way before but now I am looking you in a completely new light and I will say that I am starting to like you. I mean I had the best time hanging out with you this afternoon and like I said before that kiss felt great.

"So now what?"

"Well, if you want, you can come with me to Jake's house after the game."

"I was going anyways. What's the difference?"

"We can go together somewhere afterwards," I said with a smile.

"Okay but how do I know if you won't just leave me hanging again?"

"Well, you have to understand that all this is new to me and I might have some problems but I will promise you that I won't just leave you hanging."

Zac smiled. "Okay. I can do that. Just let me know if you have a problem with anything. It will be much better if we talk about it. Deal?" said Zac extending his left hand.

I put my right hand on top of his. "Deal!"

We shook our hands and then I let go as loud cheers broke out from the stands. Our team had just scored its first touchdown. Everyone was on their feet screaming and yelling. Not wanting to be left out, I got up and joined in the cheering.

As we were standing, my hand brushed against Zac's hand. I took the opportunity to slip my hand into his hand and hold it tightly. Zac looked over at me with a surprised look but then smiled. He let my hand go and leaned over to me.

"Let's just keep this between us," he whispered into me ear. "Well, at least for right now."

I laughed. "Okay."

Zac laughed also then looked around to make sure no one would hear before whispering in my ear again. "I really do want to kiss you right now though."

I jokingly pushed him away and gave him a fake horrified look.

"Oh sorry Kyle, I was joking," Zac started saying. "I didn't mean it. I didn't..."

"It's okay stupid," I replied cutting him off. "I think I will be okay with that stuff now."

Zac eyes widened slightly. "Really? Let's go to my car now then!"

I just laughed and shook my head again. "I want to watch the game," I said in a serious tone and turned to look out at the football field

That made Zac laugh quite loudly. So much that Karen looked over at us.

"You guys sure are laughing a lot. What's so funny?" she asked.

We both stopped laughing and looked over Karen.

"Oh, Kyle just made a really funny joke," Zac spoke up.

"Ooh, I want to hear!" Karen replied.

"Um, it was really just a one time thing. You just had to be there," I said.

"Okay," Karen said with a smile. Then she winked at Zac and turned back towards Bryan. She did know something! I was going to have to ask Zac about that later.

For the rest of the game, we just watched our team get slaughtered by their opponents. Zac and I talked a bit but tried to keep it normal and stayed away from topics that we didn't want to have overheard. We didn't want anyone to think that there was something up between us.

In the end of the game, our team lost pretty badly but I didn't care one bit. There was a guy sitting next to me that was distracting me. Yup, I think it is official. I like Zac Anderson.

To be continued...

What do you think? How do you like it so far? Let me know!
