Title: Can't Love You - Part IV
By: Pearl Sanchez
"But," Jaydyn took my hand in hers, "no body knows you as
well as I do."
I looked up to meet her eyes. I imagine that Jaydyn could read the sadness I felt in my heart for when I looked up, her frown deepened.
"Shane did."
Jaydyn's eyes widened and let go of my hand.
"You blame me, don't you?"
I looked down once again.
"Holy shit, you do blame me!"
Suddenly a rush of anger came over me.
"Yeah, may I DO!"
"WHAT?!"
I stood up. "Maybe I do, it was your plan to double date that day!"
"I can't believe you're saying this. Shayna, where the hell are you going?!"
"AWAY FROM YOU!" I yelled as I slammed the door behind me.
I started the ignition and headed on home. Mom was there to greet me when I stepped inside the kitchen.
"Honey..." I fell into her embrace. "You look awful. What happened?"
"Gina have you checked the ma- oh, Shay what's wrong?" My father said as he walked in.
I shook my head. "Nothing. I just want to sleep."
I lay down on my bed and just stared at the ceiling. Once again, thinking of the past, about Jaydyn, and about Shane.
"Hey Shayna, would you mind catching a ride with Jaydyn? I'm going to stay at Sarah's place tonight" Shane wrapped around Sarah.
"What? No, she doesn't want-"
"Don't be silly" interrupted Jaydyn, "I'd be happy to."
All eyes were on me, as if waiting for the final word from me.
I sighed, "Alright, let's go then."
Shane hugged his sister, "love you!"
"yeah yeah yeah, get away from me!" I pushed him away smiling.
Seconds on the road Jaydyn and I were talking like old friends, and the ride ended too soon. We stayed parked in front of my house.
"Hey, maybe we can hang out tomorrow or something." Jaydyn suggested.
"Sure, that'd be great."
"Alright. I'll pick you up at... 7?"
"Yeah that'd be fine."
"Alright."
We looked at each other smiling for a few more seconds.
"Ok, goodnight." I said.
"Night"
knock knock
Jaydyn answered the door.
"Hey Sarah."
"Hi, is Shayna here?"
"Um, no. She left."
Sarah eyed her cousin.
"Something happened, what happened?"
"I think we had fight."
"You think, you had a fight."
"Alright, we had a fight."
"Jaydyn..."
"what?!"
"Where is she now?"
"She left, I don't know."
"And you didn't go after her.
"SHE BLAMES ME FOR THE ACCIDENT!"
"What?"
Jaydyn sat heavily on the couch.
"Jay, she's just upset, you know that."
"Yeah, well I'm hurt. Does anybody care?"
Sarah's cell phone began to ring.
"It's Shayna."
Jaydyn looked up.
"Hello? Hi Shay. Whoa whoa... slow down. Yeah, I've heard. Yeah. She'll be here. Ok, bye." Sarah closed he phone.
knock knock
"Hey" Sarah answered the door.
"Hey" I replied and saw Jaydyn walk behind her.
I wrapped my arms around Jaydyn as Sarah stepped out of the foyer.
"Well, I'll leave you two alone." Sarah said.
Jaydyn smiled as she continued to hold me.
After a few minutes, I suggested we went for a walk.
"Remember the first time we walked on the beach?" asked Jaydyn as I slipped out of my sandals.
"Like yesterday."
"hahahaha yeah, it was great."
I looked up to see the stars shining. We continued walking.
"Tell me about you and Sandy."
I shook my head. "Nothing to tell. I was just an experiment."
"That sounds horrible."
"Hm, feels horrible."
"Are you over it?"
Our hands rubbed against each other and Jaydyn decided to hold mine.
I smiled at her, "I think I'm starting to be."
