Cards In the Deck - Adam and Ben 5
I have just gotten off the phone with my longest and dearest friend Erin Kincaid. He has called every day. Phil and Margo are back to their vacation home outside of PensaCola. It's quiet here. I will extol the nature of my last conversation with Adam at the end of this remembrance. Emotional, but logical.
So the ride home the next morning was tenuous. Adam spoke up in the car and said, "you're got some crazy ideas about how I should live. I wonder if I have any opinions on it. I mean, fuck, its my life. At least, I think it is." Then, he turned and looked out the window.
I responded, "that wasn't your tone last night. Times changed quickly, didn't they?"
"Well," he snapped, " you think I'm gonna just pluck up and live with you and let you smother me to death! I can't just drop everything for you!"
"You are way off the point," I said as calmly as I could muster. "First, you have nowhere to live. If I don't get to Social Services you are going to get thrown into some foster home. I don't think you will like it."
"I have a house, remember!"
"No you do not. Your house is likely to be foreclosed on by the bank when your father doesn't make the payments. Besides, Social Services is not going to let you live alone. It's five more months until you turn 18!"
"I don't see why not!"
"You are a minor and no family to assume family care. If I don't get guardianship, there is no one to handle your healthcare and you don't have any money."
"Yes I do, I know Dad has got some money in his account and he gets money from the military."
"You can't touch it because you are not on his accounts. And, his legal fees may go as high as $250,000. Does he have that? Probably not. You have no money." Adam was quiet and stared at me.
"I would like to see you make it through school this week and play your heart out for Ole Miss Friday night but it is going to be a challenge. I am sure of that," I said confidently.
"School is no problem," he responded rebelliously. "I have straight A's!"
"That does not matter. The chatter and gossip and nonsense that is going to emanate from your once upon a time friends is going to wear you down. There will be fights, possible suspensions, and all kinds of mess. I cannot handle that stress and neither can you. When you find out how mean these kids are going to be to you over all of this, it's going to hurt you bad," I stated quietly.
He was quiet for a moment then said, "fuck! You think they will talk shit about me? I don't' think so"
"Yes, I said. Teens are a hateful bunch and you are going to have arrows shot at you everyday. You will not be able to handle it. However, I can take care of this problem. First, I have to gain legal guardianship, and, in fact, I am going to ask your father for it and avoid the foster care system."
He pondered but he was mad, I could tell.
"Listen Adam, your father brought Hell down on us all. We were just playing our hands with the cards in the deck and now its time to fold." I paused for a moment and then said, "I am not going to run your life but there are a certain number of things I can do to ease this along progressively. I promise I will not, one, make any decisions without you, two, make any decisions that benefit me exclusively, and three, will not force you. I will provide my rationales and you can accept or challenge. Is that fair?"
"Yeah," he said. "I'm sorry Ben, I just don't understand how all this happened. I mean one minute we were having fun being together and now my Dad is in jail. What am I supposed to do?"
"Whatever you do, it has to be practical and make sense. Get Quin on the car phone."
"Why?"
"He needs to come for dinner and we need to give him a heads up."
"He already knows, I have been texting him."
"I know that but, one, you need your friend this evening maybe more than you need me. Two, he needs to be clear on the aspects of this matter so he will not fall for the gossip mill that's brewing. Three, he needs to be prepared for the press. They will walk him into every land mine and you know what I'm talking about."
"You're right," he said.
We finished at the police station and returned to Brevard House. The front dining room window was boarded up. Made the place look like an abandoned house. Adam went upstairs to change clothes and get ready for Quinn. I called Kent, or Kenny, my guy on the estate. You should be aware that his father drove my grandfather most of his life and his mother is still cooking for me. Grandfather left Kent, who was two years older than me, and worked around the estate all the years we were growing up, enough money that he could stay or go but he wouldn't have to work if he lived smartly. Yes, Kenney was my first. When we were boys, I thought he hung the moon. He was strong and funny and loyal and called me Baby B. I can barely think on it without a tear. He was special. Still is.
I told Adam to hang with Quinn and we would eat around 7. Not to tell him everything we had discussed until I got back. I walked out to the back of the property to the little Kenney owned. He stayed there sometimes and has a small apartment in town.
I knocked and he answered.
With a big bear hug, this gorgeous man muscle grabbed and started apologizing to me.
"Whoa, man, what are you sorry for? This isn't your fault," I squealed out.
"Gawddammit," he yelled, "the one fucking time - the ONE fucking time you needed me and I was not here. Not here. Off around time chasing some skirt. Not here!!! What if..."
I interrupted, "it's best you were not here silly. They were bumbling from the start and if you surprised them, they might have shot you. Then I would be one grieving."
"Heeelll no," he said. " two punches and all four of them would be down," he said as he laughed.
"They were idiots," I said. Why aren't you racking my cool points for overthrowing two of `em single handedly?"
"Oh, oh yeah, I'm totaling up those points. I have a computer running a sequence on that."
"Good," I said. "Now the work on the window is underway?"
"Yeah, that frame is going to be a bitch to replicate since its so old"
"I figured that."
"But I got it. The door was fixed as you saw."
"Yep, looked good. Just the jam."
"B, I saw the camera recording. You were incredible. It was like watching a suspenseful movie."
"I was terrified but I was lucky. Just lucky and that's it."
He came over to me as we stood in the small kitchen and took me in a hug again. Our cheeks pressed together and I could feel his smooth skin against mine. I could sense his strong body holding me close. I was feeling things I had not felt in a long time, for him, for our past.
Not letting go, he said, :"where is your boy?"
"My boyfriend," I said, "is down at the house with his friend Quinn."
"No, he's not your boyfriend Baby B. You know he's too young for that." He was whispering in my ear. "Well I don't know what to call him but I love him and now I will take care of him."
"That's good of you, but you need something out of the deal. Baby B, I have wanted you in my arms again for so long." I remained quiet, not knowing what to say.
He gently, seductively, moved his face toward mine and that's when he kissed me. Those full, sensual lips locked onto mine and I was 14 again. Hard as a rock, tensed, terrified.
"Kenney, do you think this is a good idea? It never works out in the movies."
"Fuck the movies," he said. "You know I am about to some lovin' on you like you haven't had."
My zipper came down and so did his. His cock sprang straight out. Thick and hard. I took it in my hand. He placed his hand on the back of my head and sucked my tongue into his mouth. He tasted so good, like a man. His short prickly hair grazed my cheek. I grabbed his ass which was nothing short of amazing.
Silently, he laid me down on the bed, undressed me, then undressed himself. I spread my legs and fell on top of me. We made out so passionately, no talk, just light sounds and moans.
"Kent," I said, "its..."
That's when I felt the tip of his cock at my entry. It pressed with the lube he had applied. He pressed harder. I almost swallowed my tongue. He pressed again and, OMG, he was in me. He looked me in the eyes, "loved you always," he said.
"I would have been so lucky," I replied.
"You gon' feel lucky now!" and with that he fucked me. Only his hips rotated forwards and back. His body remained sealed with mine. His hand was behind my head, his other hand held my hand. I didn't know where he ever learned this but it was the same when we were teenagers. He never professed to being gay but I know he has had a few guys in his day.
"Oh damn Kenney, I'm going to cum. I'm going to cum with you inside me."
"Wait up," he said. He picked up pace, focusing on just the fuck. The in and out, the straight line. I raised my legs and held on to his back for dear life. He pulled out and shot an amazing load on my body. Several long streams.
"God almighty I'm cumming hard!" he screamed. He took my cock in his slippery hand and gave my cock a few squeezes and I was unleashed and refreshed at the same time.
We lay there but I knew I had to get back to the house. It was a quiet and passionate separation. The walk back was brick and calm. It was good.
Dinner with Quinn was amusing and serious and sincere. He was really good with Adam. He took the meaning of our discussion well. He loved touring the house and had to get a few selfies in various rooms. What a nut I thought.
He and Adam stayed up most of the night in the den and I turned in. All was ok with this day, much better than I thought.
Summing up, his father granted me guardianship as I convinced him Adam deserved the best. I also promised him the sale of his house and belongings would be handed over to his attorney. I also promised that I would not push for the maximum sentence if he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and that his friend's hospital bills would be covered. Not their legal fees, just medical from their injuries.
Adam spent one week at public high and played his heart out for Ole Miss, resulting in the scholarship he so wanted. He transferred after that to St Luke's Academy with the school granting him emergency admission due to his GPA and athletic standing. Of course, they were going to let him in at my request. I'm on the board of visitors:)
Some speculation has impacted us on the basis of our relationship but there have been no admissions and no proof. The plea bargain only stated that the bad decisions were a result of depression, alcoholism, and the fear that i was going to report Mr. West for abuse. 3 years sentence with no parole.
Life was quiet with Adam off finishing his fall term at St. Lukes. We went to Atlanta to see Erin and his lover for Thanksgiving. I will tell you that story next. Eris is a stitch. Absolutely amazing.
This morning, when I went to check in on Adam, I was greeted by a huge surprise and there will be some more difficult decisions coming since this absurd injury to his foot. When I went into his room, he told the nurse to get out. I kind of laughed, it was Margo style!
"Sit down Ben," he said. I sat beside him on the bed, his foot propped up in the sling.
"It's better," he said. I can move it and it doesn't hurt so much. I'm walking this afternoon. Will you be here?" he asked with hope in his voice.
"Absolutely," I said. I have a meeting with the plant managers from 12 pm to 1:30 pm then I'm free. There is a big deliverable coming up next week and I may have to go back for the week."
"What about me?" he asked.
"Haha, you have special guests coming to see you."
"Who?"
"Erin Kincaid and Joe Sitton!"
"Oh my God," he exclaimed. "They are coming here?"
"Just to see you, yes"
He started to cry. About the first time I have seen him do it since the day of the attack.
"Now, what is your story today?"
"Please don't judge and please don't argue. If I have to roll out the case methodically, as you would say, you can't afford to hear it."
"I got it. Done."
"Ben," he said matter of factly, "I am not going to Old Miss in the Fall." He paused for a moment and wiped his eyes. "I just can't. My dad is in jail, I nearly lost my foot. I just don't think I can do anything as serious as college this year. It's too much and there it is." He breathed out sigh of relief.
"Adam, I suspected that was coming and I don't blame you one bit. Not one. This series of horror you have endured this year is more than most and I want you to heal, and be happy, and be strong. Good?"
"Yes," he said.
"May I offer you a bit of information?" He nodded. "I have already suggested to the Dean at Mississippi that this might happen. They have been following your progress since the attack. Your admission into Ole Miss is good for 2 years provided you show work history. The scholarship will exist but will be reduced by 50% which is ok by me. Is that ok with you?"
He pulled at my shirt sleeve, bringing me lower and lower until he pointed to his lips. He kissed me and just took in a slight breathe from me that escaped my throat. The nurse walked in and he snapped again, "Get out!" It was funnier the second time around.
More to come.
Thoughts on this progression? I welcome some engagement.
