College was fun. Met new people and made new friends. Found out more about myself then I truly wanted to believe was inside of me. Almost lost someone as well but that really seems like someone else was living it. It is in the past now, but those stories will be coming out sooner or later.
The funny thing about time is that it keeps moving forward. I keep thinking to myself was college worth it, sure I had great times but now that I graduated what's next? Zach Brimstone taught me to be open and honest, follow my passions like he is now doing in Los Angeles with his partner Damien and his group of friends.
Here I am right now, sitting at the airport waiting for something to happen. I mean I know I am waiting for my Dad to come pick me up but still what to do with that little piece of paper that says I am proficient in archeology. I even got a job interview which I will tell you more about how that goes shortly. See that is the thing, everyone seems to have been moving on.
"Oh, sorry about that," I finally acknowledging my dad standing in front of me.
"What were you just thinking about?" he asked me.
"Life and where to go from here?" I told him.
"How about that first step into the car," he said to me with a big smile.
"Oh, right," I said as I quickly got in with my stuff. I sat in silence as I stared out the window as I saw familiar places around DC. Soon our block came into view. Someone new had moved in next door but it was an old couple with no kids. My heart sank a little remembering all the times that we had. Oh, that's right you did not hear the news yet.
"Where's Logan?" my dad asked just as those thoughts crossed my mind," he paused and let me come out of my head. "You said you had some big news."
"I do," I paused to take a deep breath. I still did not want to admit it, but I would have to sooner or later. "He..."
I looked over and noticed a gleam in his eye like he already knew the news. "Logan made the Olympic swim team and is practicing with them now. He is living his dream. We still love each other but thought it was best to not stand in the way of each other's dreams," I said with a really big sigh.
"Sounds to me like that is bittersweet," my dad said to me before pulling into the driveway. He quickly got out of the car and rushed over to my side. He hugged me and whispered into my ear, "It will be alright. Things will work out, I promise."
"Sure, Dad," I said with some doubt. "I am not angry. Sadder that I might not even get to be by his side. We talked it out and we both came to this agreement. We want the best for each other and this time this is the best option."
"So, what does that mean, are you guys doing the long-distance thing?" he asked as we dragged my luggage inside.
"Not really. We are on hiatus for now. I am not even sure what that means," I said to me dad as we finished dragging my stuff in.
"Well, I am happy for him. Plus, it gives you time follow your passion. Which is?" he asked me as we sat down on the couch.
I knew that was coming. I sighed once more and could not even think of an answer. I just shrugged my shoulders.
"Give it time, it will come to you," he told me.
I smiled the best I could. He then told me he was off to work. He kissed my forehead and took off. I laid down on the couch and passed out from jetlag and emotions.
Tyler and Scott both moved out because they are in college now, so I did not need to worry about anyone coming into the house. I awoke a few hours later and it was dark outside. I decide to for face my sorrows. I walked outside and a flood of memories came rushing back. I still remember his shorts hanging on the fence our first night of meeting each other.
I stripped down to my neon yellow American eagle boxer briefs and dove in. I swan couple of laps and then just sat down on the steps. Then I felt them, the tears I been holding in since I found out about him being accepted. I could not stop them anymore. My spirit broke or at least my strength.
I did not notice that I was not alone. Something about this pool that brings people together. I had to smile through my tears.
"Why is a handsome young man crying into water?" the mysterious person asked me.
I jumped out of the water and turned around. I was hoping it was Logan, but it was not. Behind me was this tall dark stranger. He must have been at least 6 feet maybe a little taller. He had strawberry blonde hair that was cut short. It glistened in the moonlight like a flame burning in the darkness.
"Did not mean to disturb you," I was just walking by and heard your tears dropping on the water. Thought maybe you could use some company. Sorry if overstepped my boundaries. I just have not seen you around here since I moved in a year ago," he said extending his hand.
That is when I realized that I was only in my undies. The thought finally washed over me, and I tried to cover up. Doing a horrible job at that, he quickly noticed and handed me a towel that was next to him. He turned around but turned his head to peek over at me.
I quickly wrapped the towel around my waist and tapped him on the shoulder to let him know it was ok for him to turn around. "Sorry, my name is Connor and I just got back from college. My dad lives here and I'm just figuring out what to do now. It was rough last couple of weeks," I told him not trying to give out too much information about my internal sorrow.
"Well, again sorry for intruding but like I said I am not a person that likes to see a handsome man crying. My name is Kyle," he told me.
"Hi, Kyle welcome to the neighborhood even through you been here for a year," I said with a weak smile trying to make a bad joke.
"To be honest, you're the first person I've met in the last year," he told with some confidence.
I gave him a weird look as to say "Why?"
"Well, I work most of the time during the day and only have time walking around at night. Most people around here do not stay out past a certain time. So, I do not really get to talk to them," he said and was holding something back.
"I understand that. This pool seems to have better powers at night then it does during the day. I meet more people at night here then during the day too," I said with a genuine smile this time.
"So, this pool has magic powers, huh?" he said.
"Yep, a true magic wishing pool. I might regret this, but would you like to swim with me?" I asked. Truly I wanted nothing more than to not be alone at this moment.
He did not say anything but just stripped down to his underwear which did not hold anything back. They were a red mesh underwear and when he turned the right way you could see everything. He was nicely built with a defined six pack and legs that could wrapped around for days.
He dove in and I dropped my towel. I dove in after him. We swam around for a little while and it made me totally forget about everything for I was in the moment. Soon it was almost midnight when I realized what time it was. I had that interview tomorrow.
"Thanks for helping me forget everything for a moment. I really do need to get some rest because I have an interview tomorrow," I told him and started to get out of the pool.
He followed me out and I handed him my towel to dry off first. He toweled off and handed me the towel. We got dressed and I walked him to the sidewalk out front. I was about to walk away when he grabbed me and pulled me into a kiss. I was shocked but soon went with it. I kissed him back.
He broke the kiss and smiled. "Well, you said you might regret this. I figured I would make sure I did not regret this chance meeting caused by that pool," he said that and started walking away.
I was dumbfounded and did not know to just go after him or just let what happened happen. I went with the later and just go to bed. My mind exploded with everything I did not know anything. It went on auto pilot and soon my eyes closed to rest till tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow came, like always. It is true, the sun will always rise on a new day. That is how I thought it was because it was a new day and a step in my new life. I got ready for the interview and my dad wished me good luck. I drove to the National Museum of Natural History. Yes, I am applying for a job at Smithsonian. What can I say I enjoy history and would love to discover more of it.
Ok, it was tour guide position for now, but it was start in the right direction. I went to the interview and it went smooth. They offered me the job and I took it for now. I walked out of the office and smiled. At least I could say that I did get a job out of college. Small victories, I guess.
When I was walking out, I noticed something at the corner of my eye. He went walking by and did not notice me. I followed him a few feet and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and was a little taken back.
"So, I stalked you last night and now your stalking me?" he said with a smile.
"Just thought I would return the favor from last night. No, I had my interview here," I said to him.
"Oh, you're going for that tour guide position that has been open for a while. Hmm...," he said and looked me up and down.
"Hmm... What?" I said back to him.
"Yep, you would do a great in that uniform," he smiled as he looked over at one of the other tour guides.
My eyes followed his and I noticed the uniform that the guy had on. It was just like a brown explorer uniform even with a pit hat. Then I noticed he was in gray jump suit. "Like yours in even better," I said with a snicker.
"Oh really, maybe I should show you what is underneath this easy access uniform," he said to me with a twinkle in his eyes.
"I might just take you up on your offer but not right now," I told as I looked down at the ground.
"Hey, sorry if I crossed that line again. I do not like when you frown. It feels like the world grows darker when you're not smiling in it," he said as he lifted my head to meet his gaze.
"With your flaming hair, you will always be able to brighten even the darkest of corner," I said to him.
He leaned in and ask me, "This might be bold and depends all on you, but can I take you out this Saturday?"
"I do not know. I have a lot of baggage and stuff," I replied. To be honest, I was not ready to date or even try to move on from Logan.
"Oh, I get it. You're in a relationship," he said and started walking away.
"It's not that. It is that I just got out a long relationship a few weeks ago," I said to stop him.
He paused, "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. How about then we just hang out?"
"Sure," I said to him. "Maybe just grab a bite to eat since we all got to eat."
"That sounds great," I saw that his face lite up. "Tonight, after I get off work?"
"That sounds ok," I said. "Remember this is not a date."
"I get you. I'll come by your house around eight," he said to me.
"Ok, see you tonight," I told him.
He skipped a little as he walked away. I looked over at the guy in the uniform and I smiled because I think he was right. I will rock that uniform. I went home and just rested. I told my dad about my interview and that I got the job. I started in a few days since they need to get the paperwork ready and all that stuff.
Soon my dad got an emergency call and had to take off. That was about seven and I totally remember that I was going to eat with Kyle. I showered and quickly got dressed in just some simple clothes, nothing fancy because I was not going to impress him or even impress myself for that matter. Eight o'clock rolled around and there was no one at the door.
I just shrugged my shoulders and turned on the TV. Fifteen minutes pasted and still nothing. I started to get concerned that something might have happened to him since he seemed like he really wanted to try and get to know me.
Thirty minutes had passed and finally there was a knock on my door. I walked over to the door and he was still in his gray jumpsuit. He gave me a great big hug and almost knocked me down onto the floor.
"I am so sorry I was late. This was not a great impression, but I am ready for out food eating thing," he said to me as he dragged me out of my house.
I noticed he was having a hard time trying not call this a date right there. I reached back and closed my door. I locked it and walked towards his motorcycle. He handed me a helmet and told me to hop on the back.
"Hold on tight," he said to me as we took off towards our dinner. I smiled for the first time in a while without forcing it.
