JACOB AND COREY
Chapter 1
JACOB
Summer is supposed to be a time to relax and to temporarily forget about your problems. Well, that was my original plan until I realized I needed some community service hours to put on college applications. I had no idea that doing simple community service would turn my otherwise dull but normal life into something else.
Before I go any further, my name is Jacob Shaw. And at the time this all started, I was a 17 year old rising senior at Carver High School. I was an average student and an average looking guy standing at five feet eleven and weighing one hundred and seventy five pounds. I have a medium brown complexion with brown eyes and a neatly trimmed low hair cut.
Anyway, for my community service, I decided to volunteer at the local senior assisted living center, Green Pine Oaks. I started about four weeks after school ended, and I was somewhat nervous. It was my first time being around senior citizens other than my grandparents, and I didn't know what to expect.
My first day at the center went smoothly. The residents were so nice. I started the day playing chess with some residents and ended the day just talking to others. The next few days went by the same way as the first. But on the fourth day, I saw him.
He was truly unlike any other guy I ever seen before but yet, there was something familiar about him. And he was approaching me along with Miss Nancy, the center's director.
"Jacob, this is Corey Jones. He will be working with you here at the center for the rest of the summer," Nancy said. "Corey, this is Jacob Shaw."
"Hey," I managed to get out.
"Hey," Corey said back.
Ms. Nancy continue to say something else, but I wasn't paying any attention. I was too busy admiring the fine brother in front of me. He stood at about 6' 1 and weighed about 190 pounds. (I was guessing) He had a light skin complexion with hazel eyes and braids going to the back.
I did managed to hear Ms. Nancy telling me to show Corey around the center so he to get to know the layout and the residents. And that's what we did for the rest of the day. We really didn't any time to talk alone. Apart of me was glad we didn't because I didn't know if I could have kept my cool while alone with him. I knew since the seventh grade that I was attracted to both girls and guys. I tried many things with females, and I have to admit, I enjoyed every single act. But never even attempted to try anything with a guy though.
The only ones who knew that I had an attraction for the same sex was my best
friends Lakesha and Damon.
I have been friends with those two since as long as I can remember. Lakesha was one of the most beautiful females at our school, but she wasn't a bitch unlike others at our school. She was like my sister. And Damon was like my brother. He was my brother. We did everything together from little league football to shaving together for the first time. He was always there when I needed a shoulder to lean on.
That night, after I met Corey, I caught up with Lakesha and Damon at the local hangout spot, coincidentally called Tha Spot.
"Yo, J. Whats up wit you?" Damon said as I approached our usual corner booth.
"Nothin much," I said as I sat down next to Lakesha.
"Hey J," Lakesha said. "How was your community service today?"
"It was okay. But something happened."
"What?" both Damon and Lakesha said at the same time.
"I met somebody."
"At a old folks home?" Lakeshia said with a bit of surprise in her voice.
"Yeah."
"I hope they isn't somebody's grandmamma," Damon jokingly replied.
"No!" I said as I playfully punched Damon from across the table. "His name is Corey, and he's about our age."
"It's a him?" Lakeshia asked in a whisper.
"Yeah. Why do you sound so surprise that it's a him?"
"Cuz you're still in the closet."
"And...your point is?"
"My point is that you have had crushes before didn't act on them. And in some cases, it was for the best. How do you know that this is not some little crush of yours?"
"I don't know. But I do feel something that I have never felt for another dude before."
"Look J," Damon said as he entered the conversation for the first time and picked up where Lakesha left off. "We just don't want you to get all excited over something that might not never happen."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I knew my friends were only trying to look out for me. But I did felt something for Corey. I liked many guys before, but neither one of them had affected me the first time I laid eyes on them like Corey. I didn't know exactly what it was at the time, but I did knew that it was something I never experienced before.
The next day at the center, me and Corey did find time to talk. I found out that he just moved back to town and will by trying out for the football team. His family moved away when he was in middle school. His dad had gotten another job somewhere else and they had to leave. His mother thought it was a good thing because she felt that Corey was starting to hang with the wrong crowd. And now he is back for his senior year to finish high school at the same place his parents graduated from.
He asked about my life, and I told him what there was to tell him except the part that I was gay. I did talked about my family and about Lakesha and Damon. He seemed particularly interested in Lakesha and Damon for some reason.
Anyway, a few days later, Corey invited me to hang out with him and show him what has changed around town which was not much. We spent most of the day walking through downtown and going into the various stores along the way. Later that day, we went back to my house where I showed Corey my room.
"Nice room," he said as we entered my bedroom.
"Yeah, it's okay," I said back as I closed the door behind me.
"Are you sure you have enough sports posters?" Corey said as he glanced at the walls in my room.
"Naha€¦I think I need a few more."
"So I take it that these two are Lakesha and Damon," he said pointing to a picture of them on my bookshelf.
"Yeah, that's them." It then struck me that I haven't shown Corey a picture
of Lakesha and Damon even though I have told him everything else about them.
"I don't know what you have more of, sports posters or pictures of the three of you."
That was true. I had a ton of pictures of me, Damon, and Lakesha. Some went as far back as elementary school.
"Those two are fama€¦and I can't image my life without them."
"Ahha€¦.how cute," Corey said in a mocking tone while he picked up a picture of Damon, Lakesha, and myself when that was taken at the bible camp one summer
during our middle school years.
"Hahaha. That just so happens to be my favorite picture of the three of us. It shows that even at a young age we were tight."
"Hey, I know this place," Corey all of a sudden said.
"What? What place?"
"The place that you guys took this picture at. It was at the St. Luke's summer camp."
"That's right. How did you know that?"
"Cuz I went there too when I was a kid."
"Really?"
"Yeaha€¦I had some good times there."
"I wish I can say the same."
"What, you didn't have a good time there?"
"That's putting it lightly. Some things happened there that were not good."
"Like what?"
"There was this guy who also went there and he was a complete jackass to me and for no good reason."
"Were you two friends or something?"
"I thought so, but I guess I was wrong."
"And to make things worst, he continued to be a jackass once we started school again."
"Man, I'm sorry you had to deal with that."
"Don't worry about it. I learned how not let it bother me as much but---"
"It still gets to you sometimes." I nodded my head in agreement. "Who was this guy? Maybe he him or still do."
"Everybody called him Spida. Do you know him?"
"Who didn't know him. But like I said before I'm sorry you went through that. I have to bounce, but I will hit you up later."
