JACOB AND COREY

Part 2

JACOB

After that day at my house, Corey and I began to hang out more and more away from the center. The more that I was around him, the harder it was to keep my cool around him and not any feelings beside friendship become known. I was starting to care about Corey more as a friend and didn't want ruin that because of some other feelings that I thought I had for him.

Because I spent most of my free time with Corey, I wasn't able to spend a lot of time with Kesha and Damon. And Kesha made sure that I was aware of that fact. So, I decided to kill two birds with one stones by doing a group thing with Kesha, Damon, and Corey at Tha Spot. The plan was for both Damon and Corey to meet me and Kesha at Tha Spot since Kesha was riding with me to save gas. We pulled up to the restaurant and got out of the car. When we were out the car, we saw that Damon and Corey were already sitting at a booth and was having an intense conversation. "I wonder what they are talking about that have them that serious?" I asked Kesha.

"Who knows," replied Kesha. "And who cares as long as they are getting alone. That is what you want, right?"

Before I could answer back, Damon got up from the table and storm out of the restaurant. He ran right into me and Kesha.

"Where are you going?" asked Kesha to Damon.

"Away from here," Damon said. Then he turned and looked at me. "Look J, man. I'm sorry, mana.. but this ain't goin to worka...at least not right now. I gotta go."

"Waita...where you goin?" I said to Damon. "Me and Kesha just got here. You can't leave already."

"I knowa...and I'm sorry. Maybe another time."

"What's wrong with you D?" Kesha asked Damon in a raised voice. "You know how much this meant to J."

"I said that I was sorry," Damon said as he raided his voice. "I can't handle this right now."

Kesha then looked at me and said, "What do you want to do now?"

"How bout I go inside and try to figure out what happen from Corey and you go with D and do the same with him."

Kesha followed Damon to his car and left with him to see what happened while I went inside the restaurant and tried to get some answers from Corey.

When I approached Corey, he was still sitting in the booth with his elbows on the table and his hands holding his head.

"What happened between you and Damon?" I asked as I sat down in the booth.

Corey looked up and saw me sitting across from him. "Huh?" he asked.

"Why did Damon leave?"

"Oh that. Uma...we were just talking about football and it got out of hand. That's all."

I knew first hand that a conversation about football could become heated. But there was more to the story than Corey was telling me.

"Are you sure that was it."

"Yea." There was a few seconds of silence and then Corey asked a question out of nowhere. "Jacoba...we friends right?"

"Yeah. Why would you ask that question?"

"Just needed to know for sure. Listen man, I have to goa...I will holla at you later."

The Corey got up from the table and left without saying anything else. I was left there stunned about everything that went down since arriving at the restaurant. I then did the only thing I could which was to order some food and think about everything.

COREY

So many thoughts were going through my head when I left Jacob sitting in the restaurant. I did not expect the situation with Damon to get out of hand like it did. Hell, I didn't even know that Damon would recognized me. After all, Jacob didn't. But I should have known that with my luck, that would have been

too good to come true.

I entered the restaurant, and I saw Damon already sitting in the booth. His back was to the door, so he the see me. He was playing with his phone when I walked to the booth.

"Wuz up Damon?" I casually said as I sat down. "Its been a while."

Damon looked up from playing with his phone and saw me sitting across from him. The look in his eyes told me that unlike Jacob, he knew exactly who I was.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he said in a bitter tone.

"Well, I see that there is no love lost between us."

"And why should there be after the way you used to treat my boy, Jacob. You was an ass to him."

"All of that went down a long time ago. Your best bet is to get over it and move on. Jacob has."

"There is not way that Jacob would forget the way you treated him."

"Wella...he has. Jacob is my friend now and---"

"Wait! You and J are friend now?!" Then all of a sudden it came to Damon. " Oh hell nawg! You're the one--" Damon couldn't finished his sentence because he didn't want to admit that it might be true.

"That's right. I'm the one who Jacob met at the center. And you know what? He doesn't seem to hold a grudge against me."

"Maybe because he don't remember you," Damon said flatly.

"How can that be since he remembers what I did to him. He told me that himself."

"Have you thought about this, fool? Just because he remember what you did to him doesn't necessarily mean that recognized you. You don't like the same."

Damon did have a point. I had changed since the last time Jacob saw me. I was taller, and my hair was different among other things.

"Regardless of that, me and Jacob are still friends and you and either accept it or--"

"Or what? Huh? What?" he said raising his voice. "Listen to me, I am Jacob' s best friend. I was the one there for him every time after you had called him fag or punk or nerd every other name you could think of. I was the one who told him to not let that shit get to him because it isn't worth it."

"I'm sorry," I said now raising my voice. "I'm sorry for all that shit. But

what is done is done. I can't change the past."

"But you can leave him along."

"The only way I will do that is if Jacob tell me so himself."

"I can't deal with this anyone. I'm outa here."

Damon then got up from the table and left the restaurant. I sat there with my hands holding my head shocked as to what just happened. A few minutes later,

Jacob came and sat with me.

When I got home that night, I called Kesha to see if she manage to get something out of Damon.

"Hello?" said Kesha when she answered her cell phone.

"Heya...did you find out what happened between Damon and Corey?"

"Did Corey tell you anything?"

"Noa...he left almost right after you guys did."

"Don't worry about it, J. I'm sure that whatever happened that they will solve it themselves."

"They better if they no what's good for them."

Kesha and I continued to talk for another fifteen minutes before we hung up to get some sleep.

The following morning I woke up to someone lounging on my bed watching tv. It was Damon.

"Bout time you woke dickhead."

"Oha...go to hell." I said in a somewhat groggy voice. "Its Saturday and that means I can sleep as long as I want to. What are you doing here this damn early for anyway?"

"I wanted to talk to you before you go off to do whatever you are going to do today."

"And what am I going to do today?"

"I don't knowa...I thought maybe you had something planned with your new buddy. "

"Whatevera....so what do you want to talk about?"

"Corey."

"So you are going to tell me why you two can't get along even though you barely know one another?"

There was then a short silence between us. Damon was looking everywhere except at me. "Well?" I finally said breaking the silence.

"Look, I can't tell you who to be friends with," he suddenly said. "But I can give you the advice I can and let you take it from there. I just don't want to see you go through the same thing you did with Spida."

"That thing with Spida happened years ago. I was a young kid then. And now I know not to repeat the same thing again. Every guy is not like Spida."

"I know that, but---"

"But nothing," I said interrupting him. "Corey is a really decent guy who is becoming a good friend to me. And I will admit that I am starting to feel others things for him besides friendship. And I don't know what that will lead to. But I want to find out."

"Can I ask you a question?"

"What?"

"Do you recognize Corey from back when we was younger? I mean you tell me and Kesha that he used the live here, and I thought that maybe you might remember meeting him then."

"I don't but do I suppose to?"

"Nevermind. Just promise me that you will be careful, okay. You been down a route like this before and it didn't end too good."

"I knowa...but this time I will be different. You still have my back right?"

"And you know thisa...dickhead."

It was good to know that Damon wasn't going to let the some called beef he had with Corey come between us and that he still had my back. But I also knew where he was coming from in wanting me to be careful. And that reason is because of the whole Spida thing.

Damon was wrong that day about one thing though. And that was me seeing Corey later on. I didn't see Corey that day. In fact, an entire week went by without me talking to him or seeing him. And it was not because of me. He even managed to avoid me at the center which took some doing on his part.

The following Saturday, I spend most of the day with Damon at his house playing several games of touch football with some of his teammates from the football team. Around four o'clock I left the park and went home. Just as I was about to open the door to my house, my cell phone rang. I looked at the caller id and saw that it was Corey.

"Hello?"

"Uma...wuz up?"

"Nothina...waz upwit you?"

"Nothinga...uma...can I come over so we can talk for a sec?"

"Yeaha...give me about twenty minutes and then come over."

"A'aight thena...later."

I immediately went to take a shower and get ready for Corey to come over. I must admit that I was somewhat anxious to see him since I hadn't seen him in over a week. I needed to know why he was avoiding me.

Those twenty minutes went by fast because before I knew it, Corey was knocking at my door. After the awkward wuz ups, I led Corey to my room so we could have some privacy while we talked.

"So what the you want to talk about?" I asked Corey after I had closed and lock my room door and sat down on my bed.

"About why I haven't spoke to you this past week," he said as he sat down in my desk chair facing me. "Before I start, promise me that you will just listen to what I have to say before you anything. I never done anything like this before, and I want to get everything out all at once."

"Okay."

"Since I met you, I havea...I have starteda....damn this is hard."

"Take your time and whatever you have to say will come out."

"I have starteda...fucka...I like you Jacoba...that's what I'm try to say. I like you."

"I like you too. And ---"

"No. You don't understand. I think I like you like you." I started to say something but he spoke before me. "You have had this effect on me that no other

dude has had beforea...no other female has had before. I don't even like dudes, buta...but I like you. And the more we hung out, the more I couldn't deny how I felt."

"I understand what you mean because I feel the same way."

"You do?"

"Yeah. I have known for a while that I like both males and females. But I have not had the balls to try something with a dude sincea...well since I first figured out I that I liked dudes. So this is new for me too."

"What are you saying?" Corey asked.

"Maybe we can try this thing together and see where it leads."

"I'm cool wit that."

Corey then got up from the desk chair and came over to the bed where I was. I laid back on the bed as he got between my legs and laid on top of me. Slowly

our lips met and we kissed. It was a slow and timid kiss but a good kiss. It

lasted for at least a minute. And after it was over, Corey looked into my eyes.

"That was nice," he said. "I could get use to doing that."

"You not the only one." Corey then leaned in and kissed me again. This time he was not shy and his lust came through. We kissed and kissed anda...a...
