Well I finally got around to writing again, and I really must admit I missed it! Too bad I can't make a living from doing this, cuz then this would be sooo much easier on the people who like my stories, cuz I could work on them all the time, instead of when I have a few hours. And I would be doing something I absolutely adore, unlike whatever my parents want me to do!

Anywho, I'd like to thank everyone who likes the story and has written me, sorry I haven't gotten back to you, there's a lot on my plate right now. I'd especially like to thank Ashley for giving me ideas, and prodding me to get going on my writing again! This is a lesson people; keep bugging the writer if you want more parts out! Well it might only work on me ; ) so leave the other authors alone unless otherwise stated.

Standard disclaimer...depicts a relationship between two consenting adults, there may be swearing, and the first 5 rows may get wet (well probably not in this part). This story in no way represents real people or real events, just my vivid imagination at work.

As always feel free to email me comments, criticism, whatever; i'm pretty friendly i think

(not gonna make any promises as to when the next part is coming out, people will be less disappointed that way.)

Chapter 24

The next morning Sloane woke to an empty bed. She sulked for a few moments until she saw a piece of paper where a certain blonde head should have been, her eyes quickly scanned the paper and then a laugh issued from her smiling lips. The note had said 'Sloane, didn't want to wake you cuz you look so good in my bed (Good enough to eat, oh wait I did that last night).' Following this was a picture of an eye, a heart, and what appeared to be a fluffy cloud with legs and Nic's name.

'What the hell?' Sloane thought as she tried to decipher the drawing 'Eye heart clouds? I love clouds? That doesn't make any sense.' It wasn't till the brunette got to the bottom of the sheet where the postscript was, that she found out what the little pictogram meant. 'P.S. by the way hun, that little drawing is a female sheep, in other words a ewe. I love you Sloane'

Sloane smiled, and wiped the tears from her eyes. The happy girl quickly went to the bathroom and got ready as fast as possible so she could find her girlfriend and tell her the same. As she headed down the stairs she thought about how much her life had changed over the past few weeks, and how blissful she was to have finally found "the one." Not knowing where Nic was, Sloane headed to the kitchen, but found no one around. She was about to check down at the barn when she heard voices from the den. The brunette walked towards the room quickly and opened the door only to see a sight that took her breath and smile away.

Sitting on the couch in a heated embrace were Nic and the girl from the pictures plastered all over her wall. Sloane couldn't believe her eyes, but her ears confirmed what she was seeing. "Shhh it's alright baby, Nic's here. I missed you too. Just let me take care of you." Nic cooed to the girl in her arms, and punctuated what she was saying with a kiss to the girl's cheek. Sloane gasped loudly, hurt beyond belief, and with tears streaming from her eyes, ran from the room. When Sloane gasped, both Nic and the girl whipped their heads around to see the brunette retreating quickly from the room.

"Shit!" Nic exclaimed as she extricated herself from her best friend.

Melissa wiped her eyes and quietly asked "Nic who was that?"

Nic ran towards the door, but not before tossing back over her shoulder, "That was Sloane." as she ran through the door to look for the distraught girl.

'Oh crap!' Melissa thought, 'I hope I didn't mess things up between those two. Damnit; I'm messing things up for everyone! First I fucked things up between Ryan and myself, and now Nic and Sloane. What the hell's wrong with me!'

Melissa got up slowly, and began to pace around the room, thinking about her problems with her boyfriend of six months. She really did like him, but she just didn't know how to deal with her feelings correctly and the result had been a discouraged Ryan breaking up with her.

Immediately Mel had thought of Nic and had rushed to see her, knowing she was in town for the weekend. When she saw her best friend of over fifteen years, she simply broke down and cried. The blonde not knowing the problem, simply led her sobbing friend over to the couch and proceeded to hold her and comfort her as best she could, as she listened to the story. Sadly it seemed that Sloane had misinterpreted the tableau and ran from the room. 'I hope when Nic explains what was really going on, that she actually believes her.' The dirty blonde thought as she looked out the window and saw her best friend running after the shorter brunette.

"Sloane! Sloane, wait up baby! It's not what you think!"

'The Hell with you Nic,' Sloane thought as she sprinted away from her girlfriend. However the few days without any substantial food was taking its toll on her body, which allowed Nic to catch up with her. The blonde reached out to grab Sloane's arm, but was rebuffed when the upset girl jerked out of reach.

"Don't touch me!" Sloane snarled at the panting girl. "Just stay the fuck away from me!"

"Sloane, please don't be this way." Nic plead, "Please let me explain! Don't I at least get that?"

"No! I'm really not in the mood to hear some lies, so why don't you just go back to your whore and leave me the hell alone! God what was I thinking, of course I don't mean shit to you! I'm a worthless piece of crap, why would I think that I could ever mean anything to anyone! I mean Jesus, my own parents hate me, and if they cant love me than how could anyone else love me!" Sloane screamed at the confused blonde.

"Sloane..." Nic started, but before she could finish her thought Sloane interrupted her.

"I mean I can't even love myself! I'm a fat, disgusting, stupid cow!" Sloane finished, and slid sobbing to the ground, her back against the barn.

Nic cautiously approached her girlfriend, tears in her eyes at seeing the one she loved in so much pain. "Sloane, I love you. What you saw back there wasn't really what you think it was. That's my best friend Melissa, my straight best friend Melissa. Her boyfriend just dumped her, and of course she thought to come to me first; I mean I've known her forever. I love her, but not in the way I love you!" During her little speech Nic sat next to the distressed girl, and although Sloane had flinched at the initial contact, she soon found herself cradled in Nic's lap, sobbing into her neck.

"God Nic, when I saw you with her...like that...I couldn't think...I was so hurt...I just freaked out!" Sloane managed to blubber between tears. Nic just held her girlfriend tightly, gently rocking her and whispering endearments to soothe and calm her down.

Nic knew that this little bump in their relationship would be worked out; after all it was a simple misunderstanding. But she was much more concerned at the self-loathing and parental issues she had heard in her lover's outburst earlier, and for the first time in the relationship she worried about her girlfriend, and what exactly loving someone unconditionally meant.
