Note: I got a little feedback - all positive. Thanks to Matt (The only feedback I got between 4 and this one...). The support was very ... supportive! This one is a try at humor. Haven't had much of that in this story. Most of it will be humorous .. or an attempt at being that. Enjoy!

***************************************************************************** From Chapter 4:

"Jacob, what happened that night? "Asked Gail. Suddenly I felt all the pain and suffering of the villagers. "I ... I can't. Not yet." "OK." Was all she said. Was all she had to say. We moved back to the courtyard. When we got back to the sanctuary we saw five figures lying inside. I couldn't make out their faces. There were two blondes, and one brunette. One had hair like painted fire. The other, I wasn't sure, but he looked like a goblin. "Are they...?" Started Anthony. "Yes, I think they are." Gail cut him off. "I don't think they're from Derux." I said. "They're going to have a hard time believing this. Trusting us." I suddenly remembered something. I turned to him. "I remembered something..." He cut me off. "Vincent." He said. We moved toward the figures. They were sleeping. We decided to sit outside the sanctuary until they woke. ***************************************************************************** Chapter 5:

"How did they get through?" Asked Gail. "Nothing is supposed to be able to get into sanctuaries." I looked at the sleeping figures. "They sure need a lot of sleep where these guys are from." "Hey!" Gail snapped her fingers. "You're ignoring me!" She was good - I couldn't tell whether she was really gonna kill me, or not. "Sorry. What were you saying?" She glared at me, then asked again. "How did they get through?"

"My guess would be they came from another realm and appeared inside. Since they can't go through the walls; whoever brought them here thought it would be easier to have them inside rather than having to chase them all over the place."

"Makes sense, I guess." Gail said, looking at them. "I think one of them is waking up." Stated Anthony. "He'll probably wake the others up." Said Vincent. We were all staring at the figure moving on the grass.

"Mmm .. ahh ... Wha?! Hey, guys! Wake up!"

We all grinned at his reaction. "Here we go." We all said in unison.

"What? Whats wrong?" The figure gasped.

"groan What do you want?" This figure gasped, too.

"What the hell is wrong with you guys?!" Yet another gasp.

One figure made no move to wake up. The others were too shocked to notice.

"Should we go introduce ourselves, yet?" Asked Anthony. "Would probably be a good idea." Replied Gail.

We walked, side by side, to the sanctuary. One of the men saw us coming. "H .. Hey guys." He searched blindly for a shoulder. When he found one he almost pounded on it. "L ... Look!" Every head that wasn't asleep turned toward us. "Who .. who are you?" One of them asked. We stopped outside the wall and introduced ourselves. "I'm Jacob." "Hi! I'm Gail!" "Anthony. Nice to meet you." "Vincent."

"What do you want with us?" We all grinned and looked at the still sleeping man, or should I say boy. "You might wanna wake him up first." I said, pointing at the blond figure. One of the others walked over to him and shook. "What do you want?" He said groggily. "Get up. You need to see this." Said the other. The sleeping blond slowly opened his eyes. He focused on what was around him and shot up like lightning. "What the fuck?!" Gail glared at him. "I would appreciate it if you didn't use that kind of language in front of children!" She said, pointing at Anthony. "Uh-oh." He muttered, almost under her finger. "Who the fuck are you? And where do you get off telling me what to say, and what not to say?!" Gail seemed to glow with fury. Her eyes were locked on the blond standing on the other side of the air wall. She gritted her teeth, and again said, "I would appreciate it if you did not use that kind of language in front of children!" He glared back, looking her straight in the eye, and said, "Ummm ... Fuck, shit, damn, bitch." Gail jumped through the wall at the young man. He was taken by surprise, and hit the opposite wall. Vincent ran into the sanctuary and grabbed Gail before she could kill him. "Jake." he said. "Could you lock her out, please?" I grinned, and chanted a simple spell. The air walls flickered once, then stopped. Gail growled. "You have to let him out sometime!" She sounded like a pissed off dragon in heat. Those are creatures no man on earth wants to come across. The young man was still shocked from what had happened. As were the others. He chuckled as he got to his feet. "Justin..." one of the others started. "I don't think you should..." Justin cut him off. "What? Didn't want her to get hurt? Smart move." We couldn't help but fall out laughing.

When we finally recovered, Vincent spoke up. "giggle You think you could hurt her?" "Of course I could!" He yelled back. We couldn't contain our laughter for a second time. All of us, with the exception of Gail, were completely taken over by hysterics. Vincent was the first to recompose himself. "Very well." He turned to Gail and whispered something in her ear. A huge smile spread across her face. "How about a contest?" Vincent had a gleam in his eye. He was going to have some fun with this kid. "What kind of contest?" Asked Justin. "Well, as you can see, you're trapped inside an astral cell. Astral cells like to suck the life out of it's captives. If you can beat her in three different events we will set your friends free. If not, we'll throw you back in the cell speed up the process. Let me assure you, it can get painful." It was amazing how he said all this with a straight face. I had never heard a lie so colourful!

He consulted with his friends and came to a decision. "If I don't, we all die. If I lose, we all die. The only thing I can do is try." He now knew true fear - or so I thought.

Vincent created a magical arena with the sanctuary in the middle. Justin was outside of the walls and Gail stood on the only twenty feet from him. "A race. From one side of the arena tot he other." Said Vincent. All of our prisoners were too scared to notice this arena had appeared out of nowhere. Justin thought he was the fastest thing on two feet. He was anxious to start the race.

They now stood side by side. Gail glaring at her opponent. He grinned back. "Go!" Shouted Vincent. Justin bolted forward at a pretty good speed. Gail just stood at the starting line and waited for him to get halfway. She then took off at an amazing speed and passed Justin quickly. She crossed the finish line before Justin had gotten five feet from where she had passed him. He finally crossed the finish line panting. Gail stood proudly, with no signs of physical drain. He scowled at her and she smiled at sweetly as possible back. Vincent still contained his laughter, barely. "Archery." He stated. Two targets, two bows, four arrows appeared to one side of the arena.

Justin had no prior experience in archery, but he did well. Hitting close to the bulls-eye, then directly in the center. Gail smirked at him. She let her arrow fly and it missed the target completely. Justin wore a huge smile, as did his friends. "Don't get cocky, I still have one left." She let her second arrow fly. It burst through her target causing wood chips to fly everywhere. It then bounced off the wall behind the targets and hit the back of Justins, pushing his perfect shot out, and to the ground. Frowns.

"You're gonne love this one, big man!" Said Anthony excitedly. Gail smirked and walked toward me. She sat in the grass next to me. "I believe Gail has beaten you a little too much. Do you like fights, Justin?"Said Vincent. Justin looked at Anthony, hoping this was his opponent. "Yeah, I love em." "Good! Anthony, kick his ass." With that, Justin lunged at Anthony,

striking him on his jaw. "Come on! You hit like a fairy!" Anthony had no idea what this sounded like, considering he wasn't from Justins world. This infuriated Justin. He started throwing punches and hitting Anthony in various places. Anthony held a smile until Justin began wearing down. "That all you got?" Smirked Anthony. He then grabbed Justin by the waist and heaved him in the air. He jumped above Justin and kicked him in the back. Justin was too scared, once again, to notice he felt no pain. He hit the ground with a thud, thinking he was knocked out. Anthony giggled and and picked Justin up. He tossed him back into the sanctuary with the rest of his friends.

"Awww, too bad." Said Vincent. "Looks like your friend there sentenced you all to death! If anything I said about that cell were true, that is." He finally lost it, along with the rest of us. The young men were confused. "What do you mean? You're gonna let us go, anyway?" They waited for us to recover from hysterics and waited for an answer. I looked at Justin, who still thought he was unconsious. "Get up, Justin. If you would've thought about it even a little,

you would've realized it didn't hurt." Justin opened his eyes and blinked twice. He stood and looked at Gail, then Anthony. I continued. "Now you know not to challenge just anyone around here. Could get you killed next time." I silenced the ones trying to ask questions by holding up my hand. "Justin, I'm Jacob. This is Gail, Anthony, and Vincent. I believe you slept through the first introduction. We didn't want this to turn out this way. You just had to open your mouth , though. We're not the assholes..." I thought 'OOPS' before I felt Gails foot hit my forehead. I stood with a chuckle. "Sorry, girl. Geez, you really are stronger than you look." I said, rubbing my head. She smiled sweetly and gestured for me to continue. "Anyway, we're not the ... uhh ... meanies they made us seem to be. That was how I learned to control my temper. We're here to protect you..." I told them everything about the visions, the story of the chosen ones. The other blond of the group spoke up. "I guess we should introduce ourselves, now. I'm Lance." "I'm JC." The goblin looked at me and gave a name unlike any other goblin name. "Chris." I guessed the one witht he painted hair was an artist. "Names Joey. Would say 'nice to mee you,' but it hardly

seems appropriate." I looked at them all strangely. "What?" Asked Lance. "Umm ... your names." I said, confused. "Where I'm from, a lance is a spear. Jay-see is the art of shapeshifting, since the first form is usually a blue jay. Chris is an unusual name for a goblin. Joey, and Justin are the only two with normal names."

"I'm not a goblin!"

"Lance is a nickname. Real name is James."

"I'm not a goblin!!"

"JC is a nickname, too. Josh."

"I'm not a goblin!!!"

"Oh, ok. Chris, I understand your feelings of resentment toward your people. Most goblins

hate what they are at one point in time." We didn't understand why they were laughing, niether did Chris. "Look, I'm not a goblin! I'm a human being! Got that?" "Hmmm, I've never heard of a goblin that wanted to be human." Stated Vincent. "How can I prove I'm not a goblin?" Asked Chris with a scowl. "When a goblin changes to any other form their blood stays the same. All goblins have green blood." A look of fear came over his face as I said this. "We're not gonna kill you." I walked to him and held his hand in mine. I concentrated on the back of his hand and a small slit formed. His blood began to flow, just enough for me to tell the color. "OK, OK. We're sorry." I said walking away.

Everyone had plenty of sleep for the day. We all did different things. I spent most of the day in the grove where I found Ryan. I carved his name into the stone with my mind. Vincent was busy most of the day making nameless tombstones for the other graves. Gail collected as much

of each herb from the gardens. Anthony searched the buildings for any magic artifacts that could

be useful later. Justin wandered around taking in all of the 'other worldly' sights. Lance was helping Gail collect herbs. JC was helping Anthony. Joey, and Chris were helping Vincent with the tombstones.

"Hey." I said, walking up behind Justin. "Hey. What happened here?" "I'm not sure exactly. All I know is we were attacked. Our attacker was attacked. Almost everyone was killed." He turned to me. "Why?" I shrugged. "The one that attacked us was looking for someone. Instead of killing that one person, he killed everyone he came across. With the help of two others trying

to fight him off. I don't understand it." "Sounds like who ever it was went a little crazy." I nodded. I looked around us at the scenery. I hadn't gotten a chance to see this. We stood at the edge of a huge canyon. The sunlight streamed down into the depths and its rays reflected off the small pool of clear water at the bottom. Various plants grew around the edges of the pool, while the area further from it was barren. I stared into the canyon and tried to take in every bit of beauty it had to offer. The sky at the edge of the other side began to glow red. "Whats that?" Asked Justin pointing toward the glow. "Fire." I replied. "Fire? Wheres it coming from?" "Could be a few different things. A camp fire for an army. That hardly seems likely, since the entire sky is glowing. It's probably a dragon. They use fire as a 'mating dance,' so thats the biggest possibility." "Dragon? Having one of those so close doesn't seem too safe!" I chuckled. "It isn't . It's probably gonna stay on that side of the canyon. If you do see any part, even a wing, that means it's seen us and we should run as fast as we possibly can." Just then something I wasn't expecting happened. The dragon lifted above the canyon completely, and flew toward us at full speed.

To be continued... **************************************************************************** Hope you enjoyed it. I had a hard time ending this one. I got to one point, and couldn't figure out where to go with it. Can anyone guess whats special about this dragon? I know I left no clues, I just wanna see how many people know anything about Pern. That spelled right? Been a long time since I've read that... HINT HINT ;)
