Chapter 6 Budding Friendship

I woke up the next morning on my own side of the bed. I looked over at the alarm clock which said 9:00. I rolled back to the other side of the bed and saw that it was empty--Cutter was gone. Any other sensations I had at the moment were secondary to the awful taste in my mouth. My mouth tasted like one big ashtray from the cigarettes and all the booze from the night before. I hated feeling like I was in a fog, but that's what hungover teenagers are supposed to feel like, I guess. I slowly made my way into a sitting position on the edge of the bed. As I got to my feet, I made my way to the bathroom feeling a little slower as I went along. I guess it wasn't too bad considering the amount I'd had to drink the night before. When I was in the hallway, a second sensation suddenly it hit me ... the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Cutter must have gotten up early and made coffee. A small smile came to my face, knowing that was just what I needed to get my day started and chase the cobwebs out of my head. Once in the bathroom I stepped up to the toilet with my hard cock hanging down, and I began to empty my bladder of the previous night's remaining whiskey. I brushed what felt like a mouth full of hair off of my teeth and tongue. I grabbed a wash cloth and cleaned my face with cold water. I felt a little bit better but really needed that coffee. As I returned to the bedroom, I threw on my jeans and headed out to the main room and kitchen. I found Cutter sitting at the two-person kitchen table holding a mug of coffee and staring off aimlessly into space.

He didn't even know I was there at first; he must have been so tied up with his own thoughts, as I guess I was, too. I went over to the counter, grabbed a cup, and poured myself one. Cutter still sat at the table, oblivious to the fact I had joined him in the room. He stared with a calm, yet somehow troubled, look on his face. I leaned up against the counter and let myself get lost just looking at him. God, he is perfect, I thought to myself. Cutter was wearing only his jeans, his well-worn Wranglers, which fit him like a glove. They accentuated every part of his lower body ... from his round, firm, tight ass, to his well-muscled strong legs, to that interesting not-so-little bulge in the front. It was like his jeans were a second skin on him. His body was so perfect, and Cutter Lane was definitely growing on me. I leaned forward, walked over to the table, pulled out the other chair, and sat down directly across from Cutter.

"Mornin'," I said.

He jolted suddenly from his daydream. "Morning," he replied.

The silence continued. Both of us were caught up in our own daydreams or maybe even fantasies. I wasn't sure what he was thinking, but my thoughts were consumed with everything that this new boy and I had experienced, including the things we'd done in bed the night before. He touched me and I touched him. The only problem was that neither of us knew that the other knew. How serious was he about it, or was it just a curious, one-time thing? I couldn't take the chance and say anything about it. I wanted to, but I knew at the same time I couldn't. I finally broke the silence after a few minutes. "Ahhh ... hey, Cutter ... Ah, last night was really cool. I mean the stuff we did."

Unsure of himself and sounding hesitant, Cutter replied, "Ah, yeah ... yeah, I ... I guess it was."

"Listen, Cutter, I told you about Randy. I really miss him. He was such a big part of my life for so long. I ... I guess I am not like you. I don't show my emotions, hurt, or anger on my sleeve. I can tell every time you're upset or something is up with you. I mean, after all, look at the way you blew into town. I kept things inside of me bottled up and I guess I let it fester. Hell if I know which is the better way to handle it? I just needed to get it out. You're the first person I feel like I connected with and could talk to about it. When Randy told me he was leaving, it ripped a hole in my heart and my soul. We had been best friends forever. We did everything together," I trailed off as a tear left out of my eye and trickled down my cheek.

Cutter took in a deep breath, still thinking things through in his mind. "Yeah, I know what you are talking about. It was like that with Blaze and me, too ... Shit, I think we changed each other diapers," he said with a laugh. "I feel it too. There is something about you that totally pisses me off and makes me want to hate you, but that's the best thing I could feel ... that's how it was with me and Blaze."

"Randy and I did everything together. We played football and baseball, we drank and smoked together, we got in trouble together. I think I knew him as well as I know myself. We had no secrets. None at all. Since he left I have felt so alone," I said sadly.

"What about your other friends?" Cutter asked.

I shook my head no. "It's not the same. It's strange ... I met you, what? Forty hours ago and what we have done in that time reminds me so much of what Randy and I used to do! From the drinking to the smoking, coming up here, wrestling, it's like he is back. Shit, we even talk to each other like Randy and I used to do with each other. You have so much of his personality and his way of handling things," I confided.

"I will admit," Cutter agreed, "you remind me of my Blaze in some ways and it has been nice getting to know you, but you need to also know this is the way I am. I won't take any crap from you or anyone else. I am who I am, and I don't change." Cutter took a drink of his coffee.

"I don't expect you to change," I assured Cutter. "The only thing I expect is for you to be honest with me. That's all anyone can ever ask."

A small smile then came across his face. I extended my fist to him to knock fists. He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face.

"Well, cowboy," I laughed, "here is the first lesson for you in city livin'. When someone extends a fist like this, it's like a hand shake. You do the same and knock my fist back with yours."

Cutter did as I showed him. When our fists met, it hit me like an electric jolt. I couldn't explain what it was, but it was definitely there. This boy sure had an effect on me.

"We'd better head back before they start to worry about us. I'll go clean up in the bedroom. You wanna do the same in here?" I asked as I headed toward the bedroom.

Cutter sat in silence at the table a while longer, his mind a blur of thoughts. Damn! This city boy has some kind of damned effect on me. My cock gets hard every time I am around him, and my gut is in knots. I can't be falling for him already ... Wait, or can I be? What he did last night felt so damned good ... but I can't be with him. I need someone, though ... Ah, shit! Is he the one I need? He reminds me so much of Blaze in some ways, but in others ways he is the total opposite. He's a damned city boy! He doesn't know how to live, or what my life is like. He's never seen a horse, probably, or even done hard work. How can I fall for someone like this? I have to fight it. Friends is one thing but that's as far as it can ever go.

We soon had the place back to normal, and both of us slipped on our remaining clothes and shoes, or in Cutter's case, boots. We headed out to the truck. I retrieved the keys from my pocket. I was wondering if he would take over from here or let me drive his precious truck again. He headed to the passenger side, so I figured, Alrighty ... let's get going ... this is good. It wasn't too long before we were sitting in front of his house.

"Cole, I am glad I have a friend, and I'm glad its you," Cutter said solemnly.

"Me too, but I'd better get going for football practice," I said, tossing him back his keys as I got out of the truck.

I headed to my house and Cutter headed across the driveway to his.

We still had a couple of weeks till school started. Cutter and I hung out almost every night, just talking and getting to know each other better. A couple of days after our night at the cabin I saw Cutter's dad and he thanked me for helping his son. He had apparently done a 180 with his attitude. He was at least trying, Mr. Lane said, and he was grateful for Cutter's attitude adjustment.

On the Wednesday night before school was supposed to start, Cutter's family invited us over for dinner. The parents said they had something they needed to talk to us about.

We had an awesome dinner. Cutter's mom was a great cook. Once the table was cleared, my dad stated, "Boys, the four adults here are going to go to Timber Resort for a long weekend of relaxation before we start in with the school year grind. We have all become fast friends and as you know, Cole, we have the time share to use, so it won't cost too much. Now, you might ask what our little vacation has to do with you. Well, we have all talked and we think it's a good time for you two to have a small party."

I immediately got a huge smile on my face as did Cutter.

"Now, before you get carried away, there are rules. If you think you can follow them, then you two can have this party. We just thought it would be a good way to introduce Cutter to some other new friends before school started," Dad said.

"That would be so great, Dad. You guys are the best," I said, still grinning.

"Okay, boys, here are the rules. No more than 15 people; we get to approve the guest list; we will not provide any alcohol for the party, but if there is one drink then everyone stays the night and you collect the keys until morning. Other than that, we are trusting you, so use your good judgment don't betray our trust."

Both of us spoke at the same time and with the same words. "We won't! Thank you so much."

Both of the dads then reached into their wallets and pulled out a hundred dollar bill and handed one to each of us. We both sat there with our mouths hanging open.

"Thanks again, Dad," I said, with Cutter echoing the same sentiment to Mr. Lane.

"You're welcome, boys. Oh, and by the way, you will be using our house for the party, and it will be Friday night. So you'd better come up with a list of guests so you can call them once we see it."

Cutter and I quickly got up from the table and headed to my room to come up with a list. Since Cutter didn't really know anyone other than me, it was more or less up to me to come up with a guest list I thought would work.

It took us about ten minutes to make up the list and get it approved. I then called my friends and all said they could make it and were excited. We'd settled on twelve people plus us. That would make fourteen.

We invited Rob and Keenan, two close friends from football, and also people I sat with at lunch. Along with them came Karen and Mandy, Rob and Keenan's respective girlfriends. Then there was Max and Rory, these were two more from the lunch group and also good friends. They were the brains of our group. Some might call them "nerds," but to us they were just cool friends. I, of course, had to have Kimmy there. Kimmy was my girlfriend as far as the world knew. She was also the one person who knew my big secret about being gay. It gave me the appearance of being straight and she was the best. Of course, where you find Kimmy, her best friend Cammy was right there. I to this day have no clue why they were friends, because Cammy was the biggest slut on the planet. The last people on the list were the twins from down the street. They also hung with us at lunch. Andy and Steve were going to bring their dates which I had not met yet. So that made up our guest list of twelve.

We got what we needed for the party, which included a couple of air mattresses we borrowed so every one would have a place to sleep if necessary. Our parents left at noon on Friday for their long weekend. I hurried home after practice at about four to finish things up. Cutter was coming over at six and people were due to arrive at seven. I had finished my shower and had just finished dressing when the backdoor bell rang. To be continued...
