Davyln Chapter 3

That evening Jason and Asahel sat at a table in the Inn's dining room. When Joel Cameron heard his son's plans to join Asahel he was reluctant to see him go off on a unknown quest with the old man. He didn't want Jason to leave but he also knew he couldn't ignore his son's decision.

Jason was getting to the age where he had to start making his own choices in life. If this journey is what his son wanted then he would support him any way he could. He didn't like the idea of him traveling to strange lands but he decided that he needed to let things proceed and yield to his son's wishes.

Asahel walked around the small village the next morning. He had a lot on his mind and he thought the walk would help him sort his thoughts. His next and last destination was the mountain fortress of Organo.

Organo was located in the mountains of Unum a two week journey from Egelsa. He was to meet with the governor of this fortress and seek his counsel. This was the last chance to uncover any new paths to lead him to his prize. Ariana had given him many locations to search for their champion and Organo was the last on his list. He prayed that his quest would end in finding the champion.

He longed for the simple life he left behind him so many weeks ago. He didn't know what he was going to face in the future. He didn't even know if there would be a future. He only knew that he had to find the person that would end the dark one and save humanity.

His thoughts turned toward the young Jason. He was thrilled to have him as a companion on his quest but he also had doubts that his youthful eagerness was going to be his downfall.

In the back of his mind he hoped that his decision to let him join the search wouldn't lead to tragedy. He was told not to take a companion on his journey but all the weeks of being alone had been hard on the old man and he didn't want to go any further by himself.

He had taken a huge burden upon his shoulders and he wondered if this burden would be his undoing. He had these thoughts many times in the last few weeks. He often thought if his quest was for naught. He needed reassurance that he was on the right path. Jason's enthusiasm about the quest fed his desired to continue. He was happy to have a fellow traveler. His faith in Ariana's words at times faltered but he knew deep in his heart that they were true.

He only knew that he needed to find this chosen champion and end the threats of the dark warlord. He knew that time was running short.

Jason awoke and rose from his bed before the sun was up. He was ready to begin his journey with Asahel. His sleep was restless. His thoughts were fill with the coming journey. He wondered if he were making a mistake going with the old man. He also thought of Caine. Was he was too quick to offer his help to the old man. He knew that Caine had his best interest at heart. Is he right? Should he not go on this quest?

A few times during the night he thought of going to his friend but his stubborn pride stopped him. He loved Caine and it was so difficult to see the hurt expression on his face when he told him to leave.

He and the old man had planned their path carefully using the map as their only guide. Asahel had explained to him what Ariana had revealed to him regarding the areas in which to search. They were to travel to the mountain range of Unum to a fortress built into the side of a mountain called Organo. There they were to meet the governor and seek his counsel on the chosen one. The journey to Organo would take them two weeks and they would travel to new cities and lands. Jason had only dreamed of traveling to these many lands but never actually thought he would see them. He knew of the mountains of Unum and wondered if they would be able to climb them. Asahel didn't seem to be bothered with the steep paths of the mountain's dangerous trails. Jason hoped that he would be able to keep up with the man. He didn't want to be a hindrance to this man's mission.

After the morning meal things became hectic as they prepared to leave. Joel had packed many provisions for their trip. He and his younger son ran around the inn gathering things he thought were necessary for his son's journey. They finally stopped when Jason reminded his father and brother that his pack could only hold so much. Jason swelled with love at his father's desire to keep him safe.

The only thing Jason was missing was Caine. Since their argument the previous day he hadn't seen or heard from him. He had hoped that he would have swallowed his pride and come to see him off. His heart broke when the time came to depart and there was no sign of Caine.

Joel and Jerret Cameron watched as Jason and Asahel walked to the borders of Egelsa. Before disappearing into the thick forest Jason tuned one last time. He saw his father and brother standing side by side waving. He wondered if he would ever see them again. A sorrowful thought pierced his heart, 'Caine, where are you?' he asked himself. Asahel stopped and also turned. He watched as Jason gave one last wave and turned his back on his family and his home.

The old man's eyes landed on the young man, "Ready?" he asked as his winkled face split with a smile.

Jason only nodded in reply. He didn't trust his voice to speak.

Asahel stretched out his arm to the boy in invitation, "And so it begins."

Yeah, I know this is a short chapter. But was it worth the wait? I hope you who are reading my story are enjoying it.
