Delayed Flight
"Ring!"
Justin groaned at the noise and moved closer to the warm body next to him. Josh chuckled softly when he saw his boyfriend's unconscious actions. "And I'm supposed to be the sleeper ..." he muttered. Of course, he thought, Justin had every right to be tired. They'd been up most of the night, 'saying good-bye'.
"Ring!"
Oh yeah, the phone. JC reached over Justin, picking up the annoyance.
"Hello?"
"Josh ... I don't know how to say this ... have you seen the news?"
"No, I'm still in bed, why? You sound strange, Scoop."
"The whole world is strange right now, Josh." Lance said quietly, his voice breaking. "Before you turn on the TV, can you tell me the flight number of the plane Justin took this morning?"
"This morning? We forgot to tell you, Lance - Justin rescheduled his flight till 8 pm tonight. We wanted to spend the night together." JC smiled as he spoke, remembering how he had spent the previous evening. He wasn't expecting what came next, however.
Lance began crying, loudly, tears of relief. "Thank God, thank God, I thought for sure ..." Lance soon became incoherent.
"Josh? Baby, what's going on?" Justin mumbled with sleep in his voice. "Is that Lance on the phone bawlin' his eyes out?" JC handed the phone to Justin, hoping that he could fix whatever was wrong with their friend.
"Scoop? What's with all the tears, man? Are you okay?"
Fortunately, Lance was able to get himself under control when he heard his friend's familiar drawl. "Justin, I - thank God. I thought you were dead."
"Why would you think that?" Justin asked quietly, not wanting to set off his friend again.
"I - I don't think I can put it in complete sentences. Just turn on the TV."
Justin found the remote and clicked it on, and suddenly he and JC were bombarded with images. "Is this a movie?" he whispered to Josh, who had wrapped his arms protectively around his young boyfriend.
After saying their goodbyes to Lance, they sat together, watching CNN as the world became a very strange place. Josh didn't let go of Justin for a very long time.
