Chapter 7

"Aren't you supposed to be in school?" Nate asked as he sat down next to Derek, after their mutual orgasms.

"Yeah..." Derek smiled and blushed slightly.

"Skipped school, eh?" Nate teased him gently and smiled.

"Well, I wanted to see you! Since you were sick yesterday, I thought I should stop by and visit you." Derek said, not knowing that Nate hadn't been sick, but had been beaten up by his dad, and told a white lie in order not to upset Derek.

"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that... I wasn't in the mood to travel," Nate told part of the truth.

"I kinda figured you'd be home from Maine by now. So, what did they say?"

"Meh... nothing important, just paperwork." Nate didn't want to talk about his day. Most importantly, he didn't want to get Derek's feelings down by letting on that he'd be getting his own family unit.

"So tell me about yourself, Derek." Nate wanted to know more about his boyfriend.

"Derek is a great guy, he's super smart, and really hot too." Derek giggled as he talked about and flattered himself in a third person perspective. Nate elbowed Derek in the ribs.

"Dork!" Nate giggled.

"I don't know, ask me a question." Derek gazed into Nate's eyes, unable to break away from those wonderful windows into his boyfriend's soul.

"Umm, tell me about your mom and dad. Do you have any brothers or sisters?"

"My mom works at a bank in Seattle, she works really long hours so I rarely get to see her. Dad?" Derek paused, "Never met him."

"Oh." Nate didn't know how to respond to that.

"Also, I don't have any brothers or sisters. Well, you know about the laws of having only one child per family, right?" Derek asked Nate.

"Yeah, I know, Dad is in the military, that's why I have a sister."

"That must be so cool, mustn't it, to have a little sister who looks up to you?" Derek asked with envy.

"It does have its perks, but," Nate stopped and leaned forward, resting his forehead on his palms ,"it can be so annoying at times."

"Aww," Derek cooed.

"Oh, be quiet!" Nate smiled.

"How long have you known that you're gay?" Nate asked Derek.

"Well... I think since I was about 11. But the moment I started to get hair down there, oh my god, it was like I couldn't stop thinking about boys at all!"

Nate couldn't stop laughing, "So, you do have hair?" Derek took offence to this and elbowed Nate in the ribs.

"Well, you're not going to see it now," Derek grinned at Nate.

"Damn!" Nate replied with an evil grin on his face.

Trying to get off the subject of sex, Derek quickly thought of a question to ask his boyfriend. "What kind of music are you into?"

"All kinds, really. Pop-rock, hip hop, jazzing rock, trash techno... even country and 20th century music" Nate admitted with a slight blush. Thomas had always made fun of the fact that Nate liked country and 20th century music.

"Surely you know Pole Trash?" Derek looked at his comm-pad, did a quick search for the band and played the latest song they'd produced and released.

"Hell yeah... I love `Smooth Loving'!" Nate said, mentioning another song by the same band. Derek stopped and looked at Nate with a smile on his face, knowing that "Smooth Loving" was a song about finding true love and the amazing love-making that came with it.

"So, you're the romantic type?" Derek asked as the music continued playing on his comm-pad.

Nate just shrugged his shoulders and looked out at the horizon, seeing the sun starting to go down and marking the end of the day. "I'd like to think so, Derek..." Nate paused and looked at Derek, "You're my first boyfriend, and I have no clue what I'm doing."

"Me too. I guess we'll just take our time, right?" Derek asked softly.

"I want that too, Derek. But..." Nate jumped up off of the bench. "FUCK!" he suddenly screamed at the sky and to the world. His heart was feeling the weight of his situation, and his inability to do anything about it. He knew that he would be leaving in three weeks' time and that he'd have to leave Derek behind. `There's no fucking time anymore,' Nate thought to himself.

Derek didn't know what to say, as he didn't know what Nate was thinking. He just sat there on the bench looking at Nate, who was leaning against the railing and looking out towards the city skyline.

"That's the thing, Derek. I want to take it slowly, you know, to get to know you and all. But..." Nate sighed deeply and looked down the front of the building they were on. "I have just three weeks to get to know you and love you. Then you'll be gone from my life." Nate admitted what was on his mind and bothering him.

Derek stood up and leaned against the railing beside Nate. "Yeah, I've thought about that too. You know what I think?"

"What?" Nate asked, not looking at Derek.

"Let's just enjoy these last three weeks together. We'll live and love each other as if all our tomorrows exist in these last moments we have."Derek said. Nate looked up and smiled, a glimmer of loving hope emerging deep in his heart.

Nate leaned over and kissed Derek softly on the lips. Derek opened his arms and hugged Nate tightly to his chest. Nate broke the kiss, and laid his head on Derek's chest, savoring the moment and listening to the music that was still playing on Derek's comm-pad.

"Top or bottom?" Derek asked bluntly.

"WHAT?!" Nate jerked his head off of Derek's chest in shock. When he'd recovered, Nate grinned. "Blunt, aren't ya?" he teased Derek.

"Yuppers!" Derek smiled back.

"Well, you'll have to figure that out yourself." Nate didn't want to tell Derek everything, he liked the idea of playing hard to get.

"Oh, I will," Derek smiled, a plan forming in his mind. A chirping tone from his comm-pad broke his train of thought.

"Shit. Nate, I'm sorry, but I have to go now." Derek gave Nate one more kiss on his lips. He loved how Nate's lips were so red and soft and tasty. They felt like they'd been made especially for Derek to kiss. He couldn't stop tasting Nate's lips. He could feel Nate getting hard again, thinking how easy it was to get to Nate and make him hot. He reached down and softly rubbed Nate's hardening penis through his pants and underwear. Nate sucked in a deep breath and moaned a little; being touched by his boyfriend was pure ecstasy. He reached down and placed his hand on Derek's, pulling him away.

"You have to go home, Derek," Nate smiled, knowing that if he allowed Derek to stimulate his penis any longer, he would be ejaculating a second load of boy cum into his underwear.

"Aww," Derek whined. Nate smiled and gave Derek one last sweet kiss for now, before they parted.

Standing in front of Thomas' apartment door, Nate didn't feel like going home yet. He was missing Thomas badly, and he felt a need to see how Thomas' day had gone. He felt like he was left out, knowing that Thomas had been doing stuff without him, and not being a part of his life anymore. Nate felt like he was only half a person today.

Nate rang the door bell and waited to see if anyone was home. After a minute, Thomas' mother came and answered the door.

"Thomas is in his bedroom," she told him as she stepped back from the doorway to let Nate in.

Nate went to Thomas' bedroom and softly knocked on his door. Thomas greeted Nate and asked him to come in.

"How'd your day go?"

"Pretty much the same shit, same old, same old." Thomas was sitting at his desk, doing his homework.

Nate looked at the homework and smiled, as he knew he didn't miss that part at all. "Yeah, looks like it." Thomas was stuck on a math question, not knowing how to solve it.

"Can you help me with this?" he asked Nate.

Nate looked at the math question. It took all of two seconds for him to know what the answer was. He leaned over and pointed out how to carry the n' part of the equation over the t' part in order to solve it. Thomas scratched his head and asked Nate another question. After a few minutes, Thomas was able to arrive at the solution and answer. "2.945... right?" he asked Nate.

"No, 2.9454. You forgot to carry the n' part, see?" Thomas looked at Nate in wonderment. Even to this day when hed known him for so long, Thomas was still surprised at how quickly Nate could figure out a difficult math problem in his head.

"You should be a math teacher," Thomas said as he was correcting his mistake.

Nate smiled. "I am going to be a math teacher."

Thomas stopped and looked up at Nate in surprise. Nate simply nodded. Thomas shut off his display, turned around and asked him how. Nate sat on Thomas' bed, and slowly explained everything he'd learned today, about getting his own family unit on the ship, his two jobs of teaching math and being Radar Operator on the bridge, the kind of training he'd have to go through. Thomas` mouth hung open, as he was both quite amazed and just slightly jealous at the same time.

"Mr. Blair, you'd better leave the boys alone." Thomas spoke in a pretend authoritative voice, and he was unable to hold back his laugher. Nate and Thomas shed a few tears of joy and laughter at the joke.

"Speaking of boys, guess who came to see me today?" Nate asked Thomas with a small smile.

"Duh, Derek... I didn't see him in school today. I wanted to invite him to join our table at lunch."

"Aww. Thank you Thomas... for hanging out with him and making him a part of your group." Nate was happy that his best friend had invited his boyfriend to join his lunch table.

"Well, I needed a gay boy to replace you," Thomas laughed.

"I don't fucking want to be replaced!" he snapped at Thomas. Nate regretted it instantly, as Thomas looked down at the floor, and Nate could see tears forming in Thomas' eyes. Nate knew he'd over-reacted badly, as Thomas was only joking.

"I'm sorry Thomas, I didn't mean that." Nate bent down to look into Thomas' eyes.

"It`s ok, Nate. I shouldn't have said what I did." Thomas wiped the tears from his eyes.

"Thomas... it doesn't matter now. In three weeks, I'll be gone." Nate paused, knowing he had spoken the truth, but wondering what would happen to Derek without him. "Do me a favor, Thomas, please be Derek's friend. Like you were my friend."

"Don't worry, I will. But I could never replace you." Thomas smiled at Nate.

Wanting to get away from this sad and emotional moment, Nate got back on the subject of Derek's visit in the afternoon. He told Thomas everything, minus the more intimate details.

Remembering what Derek had told him earlier, Nate said, "I heard a rumor, Thomas." He knew that Thomas loved hearing rumors, and had even created a few himself.

"What's that?" Thomas asked, not knowing that Nate had found out about Thomas spreading the word about Nate's coming out.

"Oh... that you told everyone that I came out to ya, and that I was sooo in love with you."

Thomas sank deeper into his chair, knowing he'd been caught. The only thing left for him to do was own up. "Yeah, I did." he paused for a second to gather his thoughts, then he continued to explain why he did it.

"I was so happy for you Nate, but you just weren't yourself. You weren't happy, you were sad all the time. It bothered me a lot to see you like that. As for the `in love with me' bit, well I know I should have kept my mouth shut about that. BUT," Thomas stood up and raised his arms up in the air, being melodramatic, "you got a boyfriend now because of it."

Nate just shook his head. "Thomas, you're sooo dramatic. Are you sure you're not gay?" he giggled.

Thomas sat back down on his chair. "Nope, my dick likes pussy! However, if it starts to like dick, I promise I'll tell you first." Nate blinked for a second.

"HAH! Sure, you might take Derek away from me," Nate laughed.

"Nah, his hair is too short for me."

Nate just slapped his palm on his face.

Entering his apartment, Nate noticed that his dad wasn't home yet. `Where's Mom?' Nate asked himself. He wanted to talk to his mom about his dad, about why he was being an asshole towards him.

"Mom?"

"In here, dear." Beth was in her bedroom. Nate walked in and saw that she had started to pack up the bedroom.

"Packing?"

"Yeah, I might as well. You should start on your bedroom tonight," Beth informed Nate.

"Yeah, okay." Nate stopped and looked at the family photo that was now in a cargo container.

"Come over here, sit with me Nate," Beth patted the bed next to her.

"Nate, we need to talk about what happened yesterday, and we haven't talked about Derek at all. I just want to know what's on your mind." Beth stopped to let Nate speak his mind.

"Mom, since Thursday my life has been turned upside down, twisted, and spit on. I just feel helpless and lost." Nate's eyes began to well up with tears. Finally, he was able to admit his feelings to his mom.

"I know, dear, I know it's been eating you up. Yes, we should have talked to you about it first before we signed up. That was our fault. And I'm sorry for that, dear," Beth said, as she wiped Nate's tears away and rubbed her son's back to comfort him.

"It would be nice. I mean, don't I have a say in this family?" Nate looked at his mom.

"Yes you do, Nate, it's just that we knew you'd have a hard time making this choice."

"Well, it doesn't matter. Dad always has the final say, he's always controlling everything. I'm a nobody." Nate's eyes welled up again, he was unable to hold back the tears. He felt like a little child who didn't know anything.

"Look Nate, your dad doesn't have the final say. If he did, you wouldn't be seeing Derek right now."

"Then why is he being an asshole?" Beth slapped her son on the back of his head.

"Stop swearing... Look Nate, let's be realistic. Okay, honey?" Beth looked into Nate's brown eyes. Nate simply nodded, knowing that she was right. She always was.

"Your dad does love you, and he wants to protect you. He wants to protect you from the pain of losing your first boyfriend. Your dad was in love with someone else before me. She hurt him badly, and it took him a very long time to recover from it. He just wants to protect you from what is going to happen very soon. He just has a hard time explaining himself."

"But isn't it worth the risk, Mom? I mean, Derek might be my only boyfriend... ever." Nate felt like his heart had sunk to the deepest depths of the ocean. Nothing else seemed to matter to him anymore.

"That's why I'm letting you date him, Nate." Beth pushed Nate's hair out of his face, comforting him.

"Thanks, Mom." Nate looked at the wall where the family photo had been. He could see where the color had faded from the photo being placed over it.

"What's so special about Alpha?" Nate asked his mom.

"Well, you know we're moving to another planet in three weeks, right?"

Nate nodded.

"Do you know why?"

Nate shook his head no.

"Because there aren't enough jobs and resources left here on Earth. Once you get a job, it's almost for life. With 22 Billion people here on earth, there is a shortage in almost everything: water, food, paper. That's why we have technology to make food and prevent staving. Son, on Alpha there will only be 3,000 people living there. Once we get there, we're going to have space and freedom that you can't even dream of. We could get a plot of land, and maybe start our own farm. I remember once when I ate a real apple, it was so good. The food you think is great now... it's nothing compared to the real stuff. Nate, we just want you and Missy to be happy, and to have a good future to pursue."

"Mom, I am happy here," Nate looked at his mom.

"I know that, honey. Losing Derek and Thomas is going to be hard on you. I will be there for you, but it's going to happen, okay hon?"

"I know, Mom. I just can't even bear thinking about it." Nate looked at the floor.

"I will be here right by your side, holding you honey. Just enjoy what you have now," Beth told her son.

Nate sat there and thought about what his mom had said. It did make sense to him, maybe it would be a better life after all. But he still yearned to bring Derek and Thomas along with him. Especially his beloved boyfriend.

"You never know, Derek or Thomas might be coming on the colony ship after us... They're sending out colony ships every month." Nate looked at his mother, and felt hope filling up in his heart. Maybe there was a chance it could all work out in the end.

"Thanks, Mom, I needed that." Nate left his mom's bedroom and headed down the hallway to his own bedroom. He was surprised to encounter his father right next to the doorway, and he knew his dad had been listening to everything that he and his mom had discussed. Nate didn't even look at his father, he just walked past him, but he held his breath not knowing what would happen to him right then.

In the safety of his own bedroom, Nate looked around and saw how much he needed to pack up. He looked at his own photos that he'd taken of himself with friends from school and collected over the years. This was the room that Nate had grown up in, this was his home. Lying on his bed, he looked up at the ceiling, thinking about Derek and Thomas. `I need to get them to sign up too,' he thought to himself.

As it had been an exhausting day, Nate's eyes felt heavy. He decided to sleep early, since his training would start tomorrow.

`This part of my life is coming to an end,' Nate thought sadly to himself.
