Chapter 5: Don't Wanna Lose Written by: "Bear"

The two limos arrived at the newly renovated All-State Arena a little after twelve. As soon as the two cars turned off the main road dozens of girls started to bombard the windows with their screams for their favorite member. Some also had signs that were pushed to the windows and others tried to look into the tinted glass. The car soon had an earthquake feeling inside as the girls beat the windows down while others were just pushed by the other people behind them.

As soon as the two limos were behind the gate in the back end of the arena Nick started to feel better. He loved his fans and all but sometimes they can get a little bit crazy. He opened the door and stepped out. As soon as he did this he knew it was a bad idea. He all of a sudden he heard a loud yell from all the girls behind him. He turned back and saw all of them screaming for him. He put a smile on his face and started to wave at the crowd. He then got bombarded with flashes from their cameras as they tried to take a picture of him. He stood there for awhile giving them the chance that they wanted.

"Nick come on. Let's go." Howie yelled about fifty feet away from him.

He looked over his shoulder and indeed saw most of the guys were already in the arena and the rest of them just about to reach the doors. He looked back at the crowd and waved again before taking off after the guys. As soon as he got in the security closed the doors; ironically, it subdued the screams. He then took a look at the guys who were all huddled behind the doors looking at him. Brian took his gaze away from Nick and looked at the guys of N'Sync, "Now you know why we like it when he goes out first. It gives us a chance to sneak away." Nick simply smiled at Brian's comment.

Kevin then took charge again, "Come on guys let's get to the stage. We still have sound checks to do." Everybody groaned at his comment and Kevin simply laughed it off. "Come let's get moving."

As everyone started to leave Nick again fell behind the whole group. It seemed to be like a trend that he was developing. Simply following them in whatever they have to do. Joey, meanwhile, stayed behind. Nick took a look at him. "Yeah Joey. You want something man."

"Nick, how does he do it."

"Who? Do what"

"You know, Kevin. One second he's this fun easy going guy and then all of a sudden this grumpy work horse."

Nick laughed at Joey's comment and just shrugged. He put an arm around the New Yorker and said, "Come on. You'll see him more grumpy if we're not there on time."

They started to walk towards where the guys were headed. They went inside the arena and saw them on the floor of the arena talking. When they got to the guys they saw that there was an addition to this morning's group. "Hey Joey long time no see."

Joey came up to the guy and gave him a hug. "What up Chris? I see you finally got your ass to work."

"What? What?" giving Joey a pain stricken look, "Joey, man, you're hurting me here," Chris putting a hand over his heart. "I had business to attend to."

"Oh yeah, what is it then?"

Chris shyly looked at the other guys. He lowly whispered, "Um, Busta needed" the rest was muffled.

Lance looked at Chris with a questioningly look. "What did you say Chris? I couldn't hear you."

Chris looked exasperated. "Okay, okay. If you must know Busta has this virus or something so I took him to the vet. Okay, geez, can't you guys give a man a break?"

"See, now was that soooo hard." Joey said.

Chris tried to change the subject. "Come on I have a surprise for you guys. Something you're gonna like and not gonna like." Chris said as he led the way to the stage.

As soon as the guys got on stage they saw this lovely figure of a woman standing tall and confident. "I see that you guys finally made it out of here, huh?"

Howie quickly had a smile on his face and walked up to the woman, "What are you doing here? I thought you weren't going to be able to tour with us."

"Well, because of these guys here," pointing to the guys of N'Sync, "I took a few days off so I could teach them to use the round."

"Well, it's nice to see you Fatima."

"I'm glad you think so but I don't know about the other guys."

A.J. suddenly interrupted, "You know I love you Fatima. You're simply the best. You're cool and tough." A.J. coming up to Fatima and giving her a hug.

"Flattery will get you nowhere Bone. I'm still going to be tough on you." A.J. immediately had a frown on his face. Fatima simply smiles, "But, you're lucky. I'm not here for you guys, I'm here for them."

"Well, I feel better. I don't know how N'Sync is gonna feel after rehearsal though." Brian decided to interject.

Nick laughed at that one while the rest of N'Sync groaned. "Now no complaining okay." Fatima shouted. "Now you guys warm up." As soon as she said this all the guys of N'Sync stepped aside and started to stretch. Nick, meanwhile, had a smile on his face and was still standing where he was. Fatima noticed and motioned for him, "Now, where's my sweetie?"

Nick simply laughed and headed for the woman. "I missed you too, Fatima."

They gave each other a hug before Fatima whispered in Nick's ear, "You doing better, kid?"

Nick pulled out of the hug a little bit so he could take a look at Fatima's face. "A little bit." Nick said with a small grimace.

"You'll be okay, kid. I promise you that. Just be who you are and take care of yourself. You'll get over this and the next one will be much better."

Nick pulled the woman into another hug before murmuring, "Promise?"

"I promise sweetie. I promise."

Nick reluctantly pulled out of their embrace and gave the woman on a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks."

Fatima had a smile on her face before, "Oh my god," she said from the top of her lungs, "Nick Carter just kissed me. Oh my god. Oh my god." She was going in hysterics and soon had the attention of everybody. Nick was just laughing at the scene before him and so were the other guys. "See, I knew I could make you smile. Now, don't ever let that go." She then walked away to the guys of N'Sync who all had confused faces. Nick got a hold of Justin's face before he looked away. Nick shook it off and headed where the other guys were.

The rest of the day was pretty much normal. They had some lunch, did sound checks, and practiced some of the routines. The N'Sync guys were on the other hand very tired from their workout with Fatima. Nick was taking a little nap before the concert in their bus in the back. He was thankful the he was alone because the other guys decided to do some other stuff that he really didn't care about. He was falling in and out of sleep like he usually did. He really hadn't had that much sleep in the last couple of weeks. He would fall sleep but only to wake up thirty minutes later or something. Something was bothering and he knew what it was. He had to do something about Brian but what could he do? Brian is with that bitch now and he hardly gets to spend ten minutes alone with him.

Nick's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door. Nick groaned before getting up and getting the door. He saw Lance standing there like he just took a ten-mile run. Nick smiled at his appearance. "Am I interrupting cause I could come back later if you want?"

"No, Lance it's okay. I was trying to take a nap but it wasn't really happening."

"Okay," Lance walked lazily inside the back of the bus before taking a sit in one of the couches.

Nick took a seat by him and asked, "You okay man? You look like."

"I know. I know. That Fatima...she's....uh...look I'm so tired I can't even find a word to describe her."

"Yeah she is a workaholic but I love her."

"Yes, I know she's good but I'm a singer Nick not a dancer. I have two left feet or haven't you noticed."

Nick giggled at Lance's comment. "You dance fine, Lance. Fatima probably knows that."

"No she doesn't. She picked on me the whole rehearsal saying I'm not doing it right or I'm not with the beat."

"Yeah, she can be tough but she's a sweetie."

Lance just gave up and nodded his head. A silence passed between the guys before Lance remembered something. "Um...you guys seem really close."

"Oh, you mean Fatima and I?"

"Yeah, I saw you guys hug each other and everything. Then, there was the whole kissing thing that I really didn't get."

"Oh yeah, she can be really funny when she wants to be. She was trying to make me laugh," Nick stopped for a second and thought about the moment. "She's my like surrogate mama. She doesn't like it when I say that but it's almost feels like it. Maybe, she's more of an older sister or something." Lance looked upon Nick and saw a glimmer in his eyes. His face transfixed him as he told the story. "I started very young and she was always there wherever we were. She took care of me and I guess I needed a mother figure you could say. She was there when I needed her. I simply love her." Nick paused for a second and added, "and the guys too. They're like my brothers or something."

Lance was so hypnotized by Nick's face that he didn't even notice that he stopped. He recollected himself. "Yeah, I guess you do. The way you talk about her you're so passionate about it."

"I am?"

"Yes, you are. You're eyes lighted up just talking about her. So, what's with the whole kiss thing, anyway?"

"Oh that."

"Yes, that."

"That's nothing. I've been having some problems lately so she thought I needed to laugh for a change."

Lance's tone change, "Nick, I'm not trying to butt in or something but what is going on? I know we've only met a couple of times but you don't seem the same. It feels like you're a castaway or you make yourself think that you're alone."

Nick's face grew somber. "It's nothing really important Lance. I just have to get over something and I can't get myself to. It's nothing you should be concerned with."

"I am concerned Nick. I care about you even though we haven't known each other long but I feel easy with you. It's easy to talk to you."

Nick face started to look away and onto the carpeting of the bus. "Thanks," he said barely in a whisper.

"It's okay Nick but I just want you to know that if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here. Okay?"

Nick nodded and said, "Yeah, okay."

"Come on. It's time for us to get ready." Lance walked out the bus with Nick behind him.

Nick suddenly noticed that they were heading opposite of the arena. "Lance, where are we going?"

"To pick up Justin. He's taking a nap in the bus also."

"Oh" Nick said without much emotion.

They were about to reach the N'Sync bus when one of the stage managers called out for Lance. "What's up Steve?"

"Lance we need you in there. They have some questions with the set-up tonight."

"Okay, right behind you." Lance then turned to Nick and said, "Nick, please wake up Justin and bring him in, okay?"

"But, but what if he doesn.." Nick tried to object but Lance was already walking away. Nick took a look back at the bus door and knocked on it. He waited for awhile but no one answered. He opened the door and walked up the stairs. He soon saw Justin laying on the couch with his head propped up with a pillow. He stared at him and he again mesmerized by Justin's beauty. Justin looked like heaven when he slept. He was quiet with only a hint of his chest moving up and down. His hair was flawless and his face remarkable. His eyes shutting away the world and those gorgeous lashes moving ever so slowly. Nick took in the view checking Justin out. His eyes gazed over Justin's figure. The six-foot youth with the heavenly body: muscular chest and pecs, the smooth arms, and the perfectly shape hips and legs, and oh, those muscular arms of him. Then Nick noticed Justin's abs nicely shaped by his wifebeater. Nick was getting a hard on just looking at Justin. He shook off his dreamlike state and approached the sleeping beauty. He lightly shook him and said, "Justin. Justin."

Justin shifted his body a little and groaned. "Just let me sleep."

Nick giggled at the reaction. "Justin." He lightly shook him again. "Justin. We have to get ready."

Justin still a little bit sleepy wanted to be left alone but the voice he heard was not recognizable to him. Justin again shifted his body and slowly opened his eyes. Nick just watched in amazement on the beauty before him. Nick thought to himself, `The way he wakes up is even beautiful.' Justin looked up at the stranger before him. He couldn't help but smile at Nick. Nick returned that infectious smile. "Nick," Justin said more like a statement than a question.

"Yeah, Justin."

Justin now realizing that it's not a dream suddenly sat straight up from the couch surprising Nick. "Nick? What are you doing here?"

"Well, somebody sure change from happy to grumpy?"

"Nick? What are you doing here?" Justin said more angry.

"It's time for us to get ready so with me being your best friend and all, I thought it would be nice to wake you up." Nick said cockily.

Justin was bothered with the whole situation. "We are not best friends Nick. We hardly know each other. Now if you don't mind I have to get ready."

"A deal is a deal Justin. So come on let's go."

Justin didn't answer but simply got off the couch. He passed Nick rudely and walked out of the bus. Nick smiled at himself and ran after Justin. As soon as he got close enough to Justin he put an arm around his shoulder. Justin looked at Nick with shock and pulled away from Nick. Justin started to walk faster so Nick quickened his face. Once again, when Nick was close enough to Justin he put his arm around his shoulder. Justin was now irritated. Justin stopped walking and looked sternly at Nick. "Would you please stop?"

Nick put on his famous smile and answered Justin, "Sure, no problem best friend."

Justin just groaned and walked towards the arena and to their dressing room. As soon as they got in the dressing room they noticed that everyone was there. There was a meeting going on about the show. The guys nodded at their arrival and stood listing to the conversation. Justin stood behind one of the managers since there was no more seats available. Nick slyly moved next to Justin and again put his arm around his shoulders. Justin then shot a look a Nick who had the biggest smile on his face. Justin simply groaned at his action and let it go.

Chapter 6: Don't Wanna Lose Written by: "Bear"

The first of three concerts in Rosemont was finally over. All the guys were thrilled about the performance but now most of them were just tired. Nick on the other hand, even though he was tired had other thoughts in his mind.

`Usually, it's the concerts that we get to hang and be cool with each other. Now, Brian is 90% of the time on the other side of the stage. It used to be we could sing verses to each other and no one would notice but now we don't. I even tried to give him a rose a fan gave me. He took a look at me and took the rose and I thought we would be cool but then he turned around and gave it to a fan. Of course, I felt dejected so I shrugged it off like it was a joke or something. God that hurt. I just wanted to leave the stage right then and there."

Nick was in the bus with the other guys. He sat in one of the booths while Howie and Kevin sat on a couch in the front of the bus with the TV on. Of course A.J. was in the back on his phone again while Brian was with Linda. Nick felt alone again and he knew tears were starting to form in his eyes. He just needed time to think. He simply needed time. It was starting to wear on him that he felt alone sometimes but all of a sudden have a mood change and everything would seem like it's okay. Then, Nick started to recall the events before the show. Howie was so nice and cool with him. He was actually concerned and thought about Nick's well being. He looked at Howie who now had half his body on the couch laying. Nick gave Howie a smile and Howie just smiled back at him half-heartedly.

Nick then started to remember his talk with Lance. Lance was cool even though they really didn't know each other that well. Lance was easy to talk to and even though he wasn't the most charming person in the world, Nick found it very comfortable to be with him.

Then, without even thinking a smile started to form across his face. He thought about Justin and how he had to wake him up. Then how Justin just had a certain affect on him. Whenever he was with him it was like just him and Justin right now. He didn't have to worry about anything. Of course, Justin was a little bit stubborn and with that thought Nick started to giggle to himself. Kevin and Howie then looked at the blond strangely trying to figure out what's so funny. They just ignored him after awhile and Nick went back to thinking about Justin. `Well, if he's stubborn I can be as stubborn as him, maybe more. I can be really persistent if I want to be.'

The boys got back to the hotel a little before midnight. As soon as they arrived back at the Palmer, A.J. decided he wanted to go clubbing. Nick just shook his head at the thought of A.J. `If he isn't on the phone, he's going clubbing.' Nick decided that he wasn't gonna go but Kevin, J.C., Lance, and Joey went with him. Brian, meanwhile, didn't want to go but Linda insisted on it. Howie and Chris were tired so they just decided to go to bed especially with Chris flying in this morning. Justin though just wanted to get some rest and relaxation so he decided against going.

About fifteen minutes later the guys who were going to the club left and the rest were in their rooms. Nick was in his room and as soon as he got in just dropped his stuff and turned on the Playstation. He started to play but after he heard all the commotion stop in the hallway he started to feel empty. He got up, turned off the Playstation, and proceeded to the door. He got into the hallway and saw that it was empty. `What was I hoping, that they would still be here waiting for me.' It was weird, he didn't want to go with them but now he wanted to. Nick was just about to head back into his room he heard some noise across the hall. A smirk ran through his face as he remembered that Justin didn't go with them.

Nick stood outside Justin's door as he whistled a stupid tune to himself. He tried to think of the best way to approach this but instead just went with his instincts. Nick reached for the handle and turned the knob. Surprisingly, it was unlock so he walked in and closed the door behind him. He stepped into the room trying to look for Justin but he was nowhere in sight. He took a look around and saw that there were clothes all and about the room but it wasn't as messy as his. Compared to his room this was actually tidy. `Maybe, he's not here.' Nick thought to himself but he then heard the faucet in the washroom running. Nick, then, casually walked to the bed and made himself comfortable on it. He took the pillows and propped them up and grabbed for the remote. He then lay on the bed and turned on the TV.

After a few minutes, Justin came out of the washroom wiping his face with a face towel. As soon as he was done he noticed the TV on and questioned himself about it. He then saw Nick on the bed lying as comfortable as he could be watching MTV. "Nick, what are you doing here?"

Nick finally noticed Justin who was wearing some boxers and a wifebeater. Nick felt his words choke up as he noticed the gorgeous specimen before him. He took a nice long look before any words were able to form in brain. He tried to play it off cool as if nothing was strange. "Oh hey Justin, what's up?"

Justin was noticeably distressed by the situation. "What do you mean what's up? What are you doing in my room?"

Nick looked away from Justin for a second and took a look at the TV, "I'm watching MTV. Can't you see?"

"What? Don't tell me you don't have at TV in your room and how did you get in here anyway."

"I do but I like it here better. and also, the door was unlocked." Nick said cockily.

Justin was now at the end of his ropes and he knew it. He walked up to Nick on the bed and said, "Nick, get out. Go to your own room." Nick, on the other hand, looked away from Justin and focused his attention back on the television. Justin grabbed a hold of Nick's form up and yanked him. "Nick, get out."

As soon as Justin said that, a strange thing happened. It was at that moment that he actually looked into Nick's face. Nick was looking up at him with pleading eyes. It was somber and morose but there was a fascinating aspect to them. He lost his inhibitions and felt a whole different emotion towards Nick. Something unexplainable just happened. Nick looked up at Justin who had an expressionless face. Nick said very lowly as Justin still held his forearm, "I'm sorry Justin. I just thought we could watch a movie together or something. You know, get to know each other better." Nick paused for a second trying to see how Justin would respond. "We are best friends you know." Nick kind of laughed off.

Justin felt perplexed now with the whole situation. He slowly let go of Nick's arm and looked at him. "Nick, that's okay. I've been kind of an ass lately I think. I haven't really been reacting the best way possible around you."

"So you're not mad or anything."

Justin gave Nick a smile and said, "No, not at all. I'm glad that we'll get to know each other. So, what movie do you want to see?"

"I don't know what movie do you want to see?"

"No Nick, it's your idea so you choose."

"No, it's your room so you get to pick."

"No, Nick just choose okay?"

"No you should pick."

"God, why do you have to make everything so hard." Justin said a little upset. He then saw the look at Nick's face and felt sudden guilt at what he just said. "I'm sorry, I guess I'm just not use to you yet. Okay, how about I pick the movie and you get some food. Deal?"

Nick offered his hand and Justin gladly took it. "Deal."
