Chapter Eleven: Androgynous
"Can you believe were almost done with our junior year? We only have three more months and we'll be done for the year. Then we have summer vacation. Summer beach house, here we come!" Declan yelled pumping his left fist in the air. "And if I get Fang's permission, Ryan and I can have the best summer of our lives! Have you told Adam yet?"
"I don't think I'm going to last with Adam," Riley sighed.
"Whoa, what do you mean? I thought you said you two were soul mates," Declan asked stopping right in front of the gym doors.
"Adam and I haven't had sex in months. I know a relationship isn't just about sex but to tell you the truth, without sex, we have nothing in common."
"Riley what are you talking about you two have all sorts of chemistry."
"You obviously know me and Adam then I do so tell me, what do Adam and I have?"
Declan stood beside his best friend, arms crossed, as he tried to come up with some sort of similarity that Adam and Riley shared that wasn't based on just their physical traits.
"Okay maybe you two don't have any similarities, but don't you love him?"
"Yes I love him but I don't think I'm in love with him. I think what got me so drawn into him was because he looked so innocent and I just wanted to have a little boy toy of my own."
"Hey now, Ryan is not my boy toy; he's my boyfriend."
"You know what I mean. Maybe I'm not even bisexual, maybe I'm just one of those guys that like to fuck ass."
"You kissed a guy though."
"I know, that's why I'm so confused. Maybe if I had another guy, then maybe I could figure out if I really do have a thing for men. But I'm telling you right now that Adam isn't doing anything for my cock or me. But I don't want to break up with Adam knowing that he has nowhere to go."
"Maybe you can get him and his parents back together? I mean when Fang came in and took Ryan away from me it made a strain on our sex life because we weren't together all the time but it made our relationship stronger because we weren't together all the time. Maybe all you need is space."
"You don't want me to break up with Adam, do you?"
"I just don't want you to break up with him and then realize that you really do want to be with him. And then maybe he wouldn't want to be with you anymore because you broke his heart."
"Have you been reading those sappy romance novels again Declan?"
"No, I'm being dead serious. Just give it a second thought."
"So how are you and Riley?" Ryan asked sitting at his usual chair by the lunch table.
"We're perfect! I can't believe that someone like Riley could ever fall for someone like me but here I am with a man built like the Gods!" Adam said as he stretched his back.
"What about your sex life?"
"Riley and I have come to an agreement that we don't need sex to be in love."
"Riley? Riley Munroe, no longer needs sex? You've got to be kidding me, he's a sex fiend."
"He understands that after my experience with my first man that I can't handle the type of sex that he likes and—."
"He understands or you think he understands?" Ryan asked.
"I don't need to tell him that, we just have that kind of relationship. Do you really think that Riley would want to have sex with me after everything that happened?"
"Wait, are you saying you two have never had sex?"
"Precisely, every single time I've tried to have sex with him I simply cannot. And every time I tell I can't, he's completely understandable and that's what I love about him. We have never had sex and we're still in love with each other. How can you have sex when you yourself had sex with—."
"At first, I couldn't then after awhile I got over it. I can't let something like that tie me down forever. Plus being with Declan is a completely different feeling than being with Drake. When I'm with Declan, I just feel like nothing can bring me down, not even Drake. Maybe if you just try again with Riley, you won't let your experience with Drake tie you down."
"I already told you Ryan, I don't need sex to be happy and neither does Riley."
"Are you sure?"
"One hundred percent. Now can we move on to a different top—?"
"Can I sit here?"
Ryan and Adam turn to the person behind the voice and there stood a light-skinned Asian guy with white hair styled into a pompadour. He wore an oversized Joan Jett t-shirt with faded black skinnies. He also had black high-top sneakers with white laces and black and white DJ-style headphones resting on his neck.
"Um y-yeah s-sure," Adam stuttered.
"I'm Ryan and this is Adam," Ryan said as the guy took a seat.
The guy looks at Ryan and then looks at Adam, both of them staring at him. The guy sighs, rolls his eyes, and puts on his headphones.
"Did he just ignore us?" Adam asked.
"Aren't you the detective or was my brother right when he called you `Ace Defective?'"
"I was just trying to strike up a conversation, jeez," Adam sighs as he stares at the guy. The guy looks up and glares at Adam. Adam tries to look away but notices that the guy's left eye is completely whited out like he was possessed.
"Is there something I can help you with?" the guy asked with his headphones still on.
"Hey guys!" Fang said with Blaine right behind him. "Who's your new friend?"
"We don't know, he keeps ignoring us," Ryan said.
"I can understand that," Fang laughed. "Well Blaine and I are going to class, later losers."
"See ya!" Blaine said as he left with Fang as he grabbed Fang's right wrist.
"Hey Adam, did you see Blaine just now?"
"Sorry I'm busy," Adam said glaring back at the guy.
"Hey guys," Declan said as he and Riley got to the table. "Who's this?"
"We already accomplished this with Fang and Blaine, we don't know!" Ryan explained.
"Fang and Blaine were here?"
"They're always here in the middle of lunch, but anyway I saw Blaine grab Fang's wrist. I think you were right when you asked if they were dating."
"Well what did Fang do?"
"He didn't do anything, he just let him do it."
Riley rolled his eyes at Ryan and Declan's conversation and sat in-between Adam and the guy. Riley turned to the guy. He squinted his eyes and moved closer to the guy. Suddenly his eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
"Tony?!" Riley yelled.
The guy's eyes widened and looked at Riley.
"It is you! Tony, it's been so long. The last time I saw you, you were—!"
"Shut your fucking mouth, Riley Munroe," Tony said slamming his hands on top of the table.
"You're name is Tony?" Adam asked.
"Riley, if we were ever friends, you will shut your fucking mouth. You better not tell anymore who I am or I swear I will make you regret it," Tony said as he stood up.
"Hey don't threaten my boyfriend!" Adam yelled.
"Adam shut up!" Riley yelled.
"But Ri—."
"I said shut up, Adam! I don't want to hear you yell at Tony ever again, you hear me?"
"R-Riley, I—I'm sorry," Adam said looking down at the tabletop.
Suddenly everyone in the cafeteria turned their attention towards the group's table. On the girls from the cheerleaders nearby stood up and yelled, "Andros! Oh my god, it's Andros!" Tony looked around and all eyes were on him.
"Fuck!" Tony yelled as he ran through the crowd.
"Andros? You mean that popstar turned actor that disappeared from the media two years ago?" Declan asked. "And you know him?"
"When we were kids, I knew him as Tony Nguyen not Andros. Back then; he was the sweetest kid I've ever met. He was my best friend before you Declan."
"What happened?"
"His parents wanted him to pursue a music career so he moved away just at the start of middle school and I never heard from him again."
"How come you never told me you were friends with Andros?"
"Hold on a second, why is his name Andros? You said his name is Tony so I don't understand how Andros comes from Tony," Ryan asked.
"Andros is short for his stage name, Androgynous. His manager gave him that name since it would sell more than just Tony Nguyen and it also makes sense because he can pass for a boy or a girl depending how he's dressed up. Declan, the reason I never told you about Tony was because it wouldn't have mattered if I told you that I was friends with a popstar before I met you. It's not something guys usually talk about anyway."
"So why are you so protective of him?" Adam asked with his arms crossed.
Riley looked back at Adam who was biting his lip.
"I guess that's just how I am around him. Speaking of which, I think we should go look for him before those fangirls and fanboys find him."
"Fuck him, he can take care of himself," Adam said placing his feet on top of the table.
"How can you sit there and act like that, Adam?"
"You care more about an outdated popstar than you care about me. You yelled at me just because I yelled at him. Do you love him more than you love me?"
"It's not like that, Adam. He's my friend that I haven't seen since I was a kid."
"Why don't you just break up with me, since you love him so much, more than you love your own boyfriend."
"Fine, if that's what you want, because to tell you the truth, I was going to break up with you anyway. Go take your stupid detective shit, your fucking sex starved ass, and your crazy fucking jealousy elsewhere!"
"Fuck you, Riley!" Adam said as he grabbed his briefcase and ran off.
"Um I'm gonna go after Adam, make sure he's okay. You two go look for Tony," Ryan said as he ran after Adam.
"Are you okay?" Declan asked Riley.
"I'm fine. Adam was just getting on my fucking case. I feel relieved that I'm no longer with that tease anyhow. Now are you going to help me look for Tony or not?"
"Yeah, I guess so, I'll go to the right, and you go to the left. Text me if you find him," Declan said as he ran off.
"Tony, you better still hide in the same place as when we were kids," Riley said to himself as he ran outside.
Once outside, Riley ran through the parking lot and into the football field. He looked around and noticed that all the fans were searching tightly around the school and from the windows, inside also. He also noticed that no one was paying attention to him not even his usual flock of girls. Riley let out a gentle exhale and walked towards the end of the empty steel bleachers. Lifting up his heels, Riley tiptoed through the grey gravel. Once he neared the bottom of the bleachers, he jumped and said, "Boo." But Tony wasn't there, just more grey gravel. Riley let out a slow sigh and walked towards the crowd of trees on the far right side of the field. Riley sat under the trees enjoying the gentle breeze and the nice shade provided by the bunch of trees surrounding him.
"Fuck, Tony where are you?" Riley said to himself.
Riley looked up and was suddenly struck with a dozen of acorns. Riley rubbed his head and looked up again and saw Tony sitting above on a branch.
"Tony!" Riley yelled.
"Will you be quiet for once in your life?" Tony said as he climbed down then slipped, fell and landed on Riley's lap. "Thanks for catching me."
"I didn't really have a choice, now did I?" Riley laughed.
"Why are you here anyway?" Tony asked as he hopped off of Riley and landed beside him. "Are you looking for a piece of Andros too?"
"I could care less about Andros, I came here looking for Tony Nguyen; or does that guy not exist anymore thanks to fame and money?"
"Trust me, I'd do anything to be normal again. I bet you're wondering why I'm even back."
"Well it wouldn't hurt to know why my popstar best friend would just come back here. There's nothing really here except trees and more trees."
"Then why do you stay? You can easily go anywhere with the money your dad makes."
"Well I guess it's because I like the people here. I like the feel here. When I'm at my vacation home, it's nice just to get away from it all but I know I wouldn't like staying there the entire time cause it just doesn't have that homey feel to it," Riley explained. "So are you going to tell me your reason why you're back?"
"Well do you remember how strict my parents were with me?"
"Oh yeah, I remember that they got mad at you because you were hanging around me too much. I guess it didn't help that you came out to them after fifth gra—."
"That's when I moved away. They said you were making me gay. But they finally accepted me in eighth grade."
"Well that's good to hear, well that they accept you but not because they thought that I was making you gay. Why would they say that?"
"Because at that time, I told them that—that I—," Tony paused trying to form words.
"Because you what?" Riley asked looking at Tony.
"Stop looking at me with those eyes Riley. Just f-forget about, okay?"
"Oh come on, just tell me Tony," Riley said as he scooted closer to Tony, his left hand accidently landing on top of Tony's right hand.
"You shouldn't be this close to me. You have a boyfriend, Riley. Which I guess my parents were right when they said you were making me gay, to a point."
"Adam and I aren't together anymore and I'm not gay, I'm bisexual."
"Why aren't you two together anymore? It's cause of me isn't it?"
"Well—."
"I knew it. I always was trouble for men."
"You're getting the wrong idea. My relationship with Adam had already flat lined a while ago, it was just taking me some time to break it off with him. I didn't want to come off as an ass when I did, he's fragile."
"You, gentle? I remember as a kid you were always the mean one and I was the shy one. How things change. Well I guess not entirely since well look at you," Tony smiled. "I'm pretty sure you'll get a guy or chick any time soon."
"You wanna feel?" Riley asked taking off his shirt.
"How can I say no when you're offering so willingly?" Tony said as he sat on Riley's lap and rubbed his hands on his chest and abs. Tony looked at Riley and blushed.
"What?" Riley smiled.
"Nothing, I just—I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I missed you Riley," Tony said looking away.
"Really? You missed me?" Riley asked shocked.
"My first album was all about you. I developed somewhat of a boy crush on my best friend. The reason why my parents decided to move so suddenly was because I told them that I was in love with you and that we were going to get married. How foolish was I, Riley? Thinking about it now is beyond laughable."
"Why is it funny?"
"Well I could never see you having feelings for me. I mean we were so close as kids, but now it's like we're completely different people. I just—."
Riley stopped Tony's words by kissing him on the lips. Slowly parting his lips, Riley pulled away and smiled. Tony sat still, star stuck as he looked at his childhood friend smiling right at him. Tony could feel his blood rushing to his fair skinned cheeks as he slowly smiled.
"To tell you the truth Tony, when I saw you sitting right next to me, I couldn't believe it at first. It's been so long and you still look the same, just taller and more toned. But right when I saw you, I immediately couldn't stop having sexual fantasies about you."
"Normal people would probably call you a creep after that, but after sitting on your crotch for a while, I know what you're packing. I guess you can say I'm flattered."
"Sorry about my crotch, I just can't stop thinking about you."
"My car is in the parking lot. If you want, we could—."
"I don't want you to force yourself just so you can—."
"It's alright. I haven't had sex in a long time. And I've never had sex with a guy that I wanted to have sex with. The offer still stands, Riley."
"Where's your car?"
"In the red lot, where apparently everyone avoids according to the principal."
"Perfect. We can have all the time we want."
