Dork Chapter 6: Home
Months have passed since my discovery of Drake Jackson still in the business of luring innocent victims into his home and brutally using them until his used up all of their innocence. I've been forced by the power of Declan to forget these things of ever happening. And it hasn't been the easiest thing to do but there are somethings you just can't change. Today marks the beginning of winter break where everyone gathers round a tree whether it be real or artificial all while singing and spending time with family. I have yet to know what family is, my family, my biological family they just don't exist in my eyes anymore; I guess you can say Declan's family is my family now, though his mom still has this weird grudge against me. Oh and Riley seems to be truly hitting it off with Adam though from what Adam's told me is that they've only held hands and how have they've been dating; plus it's Riley, the sex beast so it's just strange to hear.
"Hey Ryan you coming down?" Declan yelled from kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm just getting dressed."
"Oh grab me one of my coats while you're up there!"
There are just some things that never change. Oh boy. So I finish getting dressed and grab one of Declan's coats. I met him, Blaine, and his father downstairs all dressed relatively similar; the classic furry winter hat, a red heavy coat (and strangely enough I picked out Declan's red heavy coat), and black snow gloves, and white snow boots.
"Is that what you're wearing?" Declan asked with his right eyebrow cocked.
I was wearing a black saggy beanie, fake old man glasses, a black jacket that had a face mask similar to what ninjas wear to cover their nose and mouth, black wool fingerless gloves, grey skinnys, and these gothic-esqe black boots.
"Is there something wrong with it?" I asked.
"I like it, it's something different!" Mr. Argiris proclaimed.
"Thanks sir."
The car ride to the snowfield took about one hour without traffic that's because Mr. Argiris wanted to get first pick out of the Christmas trees so we're here five o'clock in the morning with temperatures reaching below thirties. After Mr. Argiris parked the car he told Declan and Blaine to go look for trees and they left at the speed of light, damn speed demons. That left me alone with Mr. Argiris. We started to briskly walk in the snowfield, I could hear Declan and Blaine but I definitely could not see them.
"So Ryan, I don't want you to feel awkward with us. I want you to be—to feel like you are part of the family. I've noticed that ever since Thanksgiving you've been aloof."
Straight to the point I see.
"It's not your family or the holidays, it's just—it's gonna take me some time to get used to this adjustment."
"Declan told me about your situation. I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm sure my wife isn't making it any easier on you."
Like hell she ain't. During Thanksgiving her way of making me feel like family was to eat outside like an animal. She even put my food in a dog dish. Talk about family. There's always got to be a devil's advocate in a family.
"But I want to reassure you that she's trying her best."
"Does she have something against me? Well actually that's a dumb way of putting it. What does she have against me?"
"To tell you the truth, I don't know. I've tried talking to her about it but she simply says she's having a difficult time adjusting to the situation. I'm sorry."
"No, it's alright. I'm just happy that I'm not spending the holidays alone."
"Well I want you to think of me as maybe your stepdad and everyone is your step-family."
"Thanks. I'll put your request to some heavy consideration."
After that family talk, we caught up to Declan and Blaine. They had already got a tree cut down and they were carrying it to the car. You would not believe Mr. Argiris' face, you'd think that he'd be pissed because he didn't get to pick his ideal tree but nope he was truly delighted. The car ride back consisted of him, Blaine, and Declan talking about the tree that was attached to the roof of the car while I just peered out the window watching the snow fall once again. It was relaxing. I didn't notice but some time during my total detachment to this family conversation, Declan took a hold of my hand. When we got home, Mrs. Argiris was home sitting in front of the fireplace. The boys carried the tree into the family room and planted it into the base. They then started taking the Christmas lights and decorations out of boxes that were scattered around the room. As I was about to help, Mrs. Argiris got up and motioned me to follow her into the kitchen. As we both got into the kitchen, she closed the kitchen door and pulled out a letter from her coat.
"A letter came in today for you, Ryan. I didn't read it because it looked important."
Wow she actually called me by name.
"It doesn't have a return address so I thought that maybe it was from that horrible man that hurt you and Adam. Maybe he wrote this as a warning or a threat."
"I don't think he's capable of writing a letter. But I'll look into it."
She nodded and left the kitchen. I opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. It was hand written in perfect cursive and I knew the exact person that wrote that letter. I didn't even bother reading it. I just put it back in the envelope and walked into the kitchen. Mrs. Argiris looked at me as I walked out of the kitchen. I looked at the fireplace and tossed the letter into the flames. The only person that saw this was Mrs. Argiris since the boys were decorating the tree. I walked out of the room and was about to walk up to our room till Mrs. Argiris stopped me.
"Was it him?" She asked concerned.
"No, it was uhm—i wasn't the right person for the letter. It was for another Ryan Dojima."
"Then why did you throw it into the fire?"
"Blame it on impulse. I'm just gonna go to bed."
"I'm only doing this because I'm worried," Mrs. Argiris said.
"Since when have you started caring?" I asked not turning my back.
"Since I realized how much my son loves you."
"It's not because it's time Christmas?"
"No."
"Wow, could have fooled me," I said walking up the stairs.
Mrs. Argiris walked up the fireplace, picked up the fire poker and took out the flaming letter. She walked out into the snow and placed the letter into the snow. The snow quickly dowsed the flames leaving the enveloped partially burned. She knelt over and pulled out the letter which read:
"Lightning Strikes In One Place"
"What in the world does that mean?" Mrs. Argiris said aloud.
She walked inside and sat down on the couch pondering about the meaning of that line in the letter. The phone in the kitchen began to ring. She got up and picked up the phone.
"Did you get my letter?" a voice asked.
"Who is this?" Mrs. Argiris asked.
"Just tell Ryan, I'm on my way. Tell him to get ready. I'll be there in a few," the voice said as he hung up.
"Hello? Hello?! Damn it!" Mrs. Argiris said slamming the phone on the table. "Olaf!"
Mr. Argiris and the boys walked into then kitchen and saw distraught Meredith was.
"Honey what's wrong?" Mr. Argiris asked.
"We have to get Ryan out of here."
"Mom, that's enough!" Declan said.
"I don't mean it like that, your boy is in danger."
"What do you mean?"
She gave Declan the letter and Declan just looked lost.
"Lightning Strikes In One Place. What the hell does that mean?" Declan asked.
"I don't know. But whoever wrote that just called and told me that he's on his way here. Possibly to hurt Ryan."
"Whoa when did you care so much for Ryan, Mom?" Blaine asked.
"Don't worry about that. Just go get Ryan and get him out of here."
Declan and Blaine nodded and ran to the stairs. Before Declan and Blaine could even run up the stairs the doorbell rang. Everyone falls silent. The doorbell goes off a couple of times before a voice finally speaks up form outside.
"Hey! Declan, open up! I can see you through the door!" Riley yelled.
Declan sighs, walks up to the door and opens it.
"Finally man, you know how cold it is outside?"
"Sorry, now's not the best time. Everyone's on edge."
"Why?"
"Someone's coming here now to take away Ryan and--."
"That someone is me."
A man walks past Riley and Adam and walk inside the house. He had a grey parka on and black boots on.
"Where's Ryan?" he asked.
"Who's asking?" Declan asked.
"My name is Fang Dojima. I'm Ryan's brother, his guardian from now on. Now where is he?"
"I don't believe you!" Declan yelled. "How do you even know that Ryan's here?"
"Because Ryan isn't the smartest tool in the shed. You'd be amazed what total strangers could find on facebook. Now where's my brother?"
"I don't care who you are, you're not taking him away from me."
"There's nothing you can do. Joining me in fisticuffs will only make matters worse. I'm his legal guardian."
"He already has a family, he has us."
"I'm sorry to say this, I can sense how much you love him but compared to me, you all are nothing. I'm guaranteed by law to take him under my wing. Now I'm asking you all nicely to just hand him over."
"What makes you think he wants to leave with you?"
"It doesn't matter what he wants. He's a minor. I'm his brother by blood. I'm his guardian."
"If you want him, you're going to have to beat me in a fight," Blaine said confidently.
"I don't want to fight. I just want my brother."
"What are you scared?"
"No, I'm what you would call a pacifist of sorts."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"It means I don't believe in violence to solve my issues."
"Sounds like a wimp to me," Blaine said as he throw a punch at Fang.
Fang quickly dodged and walked towards Adam.
"How is it that someone with a peaceful soul such as yours associates himself with animals such a him?"
"Uhm I--."
"Hey come back here i'm not through with you."
Fang grabbed left shoulder and pinch his skin close to his neck.
"Enjoy your rest," Fang said as Blaine passed out. "Now show me where Ryan is."
"I'm not going--."
"That's enough, Fang. I'm coming with you," Ryan said as he walked downstairs with a bag of his belongings.
"Ryan, I don't want you to go."
"I have to. He's right, I have to go with him whether or not I want to or not. He's my real guardian, my real family."
"Ryan--."
"Look as much I love to whole dramatic teen love thing let me just say that we're not leaving this city. He's just going to live with me. He'll still go to the same school as you. I live only a few blocks away from here. So don't worry."
"Really?" Ryan asked.
"Yes really. Do you really think i'd tear apart teenage love? I'm not mom and dad."
"Wait how old are you? You look younger than Ryan," Riley asked.
"I'm twenty-five."
"Seriously?"
"Yes. It's a curse and a blessing."
