Chapter Four
"Come on babe!" Nick yelled through the door. "You can't be mad."
I didn't answer; I just packed the things I needed for the tour.
"Baby!" he knocked harder. "Hey open up."
I heard him talk to someone else. It sounded like Nick didn't like what that person was saying but in the end he agreed. "Ok babe. I am going to go out and get food." He said and then I heard his footsteps leaving.
"Hey Caleb it's me Jeff." He said knocking.
I thought for a second. "Come in Jeff." I said.
I heard the door open; he walked in and stood there.
I turned to look at him. "You ok?" I asked.
A smiled crept across his face. "I came in here to ask that." He let out a laugh.
"Yea, I am fine. I can't help but feel like a puppet though." I said going back to packing.
"I can understand that. All of the guys think it's going to be cool having you back with us." He said coming closer. "Nick is at the top of that list." He smiles at me.
"Yea I am happy to be going back to." I said. "It'll be great being around the "boys" when while you're on tour." I smiled up at him.
"Yea it'll be ok. But just don't be so hard on Nick. He's still pretty raw, you know, from you leaving and then finding you again, then having to ask this huge favor of you." he said.
I had never thought about it that way. I guess I had to be a little easier on Nick.
"Thanks Jeff. I never thought it that way." I said.
"No prob." He said as we heard the front door open. "Now go out there and give him a kiss."
I smiled at Jeff and made my way out of the bedroom. I walked down the hallway and entered the kitchen.
I saw Nick pulling out food from a couple McDonald's bags. He looked up when I walked in to the room.
"Hi." He said meekly.
"Hey babe." I said walking over and putting my arm around his waist. "What did you get me?" I asked him.
He smiled down at me. "You were always a big fan of the fish fillet, so I got you one." he said.
"Thanks," I said reaching up and kissing him on the cheek. "So when do we leave for LA?" I asked.
The color from Nick's face drained. He started sputtering and trying to explain something, but I stopped him.
"Nick, it's ok. I am coming because I want to. I decided there was no point to argue about because in the end it all boils around that I want to be with you and you want to be with me. That's it." I said
He turned and held me at arms length. "Are you sure?"
"Yes Nick. I love you and don't you ever forget that." I said giving him a quick kiss.
"I love you too." Nick said moving so our foreheads were touching.
I don't know how long we stayed like that but one of the guys broke us back to reality. "Um... it's great you guys are talking again, but we're hungry." Drew said.
I watched, as the guys were busy packing. I told them that should have packed the night before but they didn't listen to me and now we had 2 hours until we had to be at the airport. Whenever I was on tour with the boys I was the mother hen. I made sure everyone was packed on time, eating right, and whatever came up. Now that I think of it, I missed it.
"Babe?" Nick said bringing me back to the matter at hand.
"Yea?" I said.
"Do you know were my razor is?" he asked.
"Check in the bathroom." I said.
"I already checked there." He almost snapped.
"Check again." I said rolling my eyes.
He walked back to the bathroom and disappeared. He was back there for a few minutes, I heard him swear and come back holding his razor.
I gave him "I told you so" look.
We landed in LA just after 5pm and I wasn't too happy to be back here again but I didn't let it show to the guys. I thought about having to deal with record execs and the managers. The press was always going to be around and don't forget the fans that thought the boys didn't deserve privacy. This is going to be harder than I thought.
"Hey kid!" Jeff said getting my attention. "You ok?" he asked putting his arm around my shoulders.
"Yea." I lied. "There's just so much going on." I said looking around. "I guess I just got used to Minneapolis." I said.
I could tell by the look on his face that he didn't buy it. "Ok. Well if you need to talk. I am here for you."
"Yea I know." I said giving him my best fake smile.
I looked at the four of them, sighed; maybe this time would be different
"OH MY GAWD!" some teenaged girl shrieked.
So much for that, before the boys got mobbed I slipped out and caught a cab to Nick's.
I stood outside the house looking up at it. I walked up to the garage and typed in the passcode. The garage door came up and I noticed the car Nick bought me for our one-year anniversary.
As I walked into the garage, I ran my fingers along the car. My mind when back to the day I woke up and Nick dragged me down to the driveway, there was a 2004 Jet Black BMW M3 with a huge red bow on it.
I heard a car door slam behind me. I turned to see a blond girl at the side of the sliver Mercedes.
"Who are you?" she asked reaching for her cell phone.
"I am Caleb Mathers. I am supposed," she cut me off.
"What do you think you're doing here?" she yelled walking towards me "You think you can just leave out of the blue and then come back like nothing ever happened!" her Texan accent was clear and then it clicked. Jessica Simpson was chewing me out.
"OK, I think we need to calm down, I can explain." I said putting my hands up in a surrender position.
"Well explain it too the cops." She said reaching for her phone.
"Wait Jessica!" I almost yelled. "Call Nick, he's in the city. I left him at the airport because they got mobbed by fans and I wasn't up to dealing with that so I took a cab here." I said in one short breath.
She eyed me for a second. She dialed a number. "Hello Nick?" (Pause) "Ok, I am at your place and someone who's calling themselves Caleb." (Pause) "Oh he is here with you." (Pause) "No I didn't hurt him and I'll see you in bit." she said hanging up the phone. She looked up at me, it was clear she was still pissed about something.
"Yes?" I said waiting for it.
"I still think it's messed up you leaving like that." She said pushing past me.
"Great." I sighed.
I followed her into the house and was surprised to find everything they way I left it. There were still pictures of me and him around.
"I told him to take them down, but he wouldn't listen to me. He held on to hope that you'd come back." she said when she noticed me looking at a picture.
I didn't say anything just kept looking at a picture of me and Nick on the beach. We had rented a villa on the beach in Hawaii. We were sitting in the sand and he had his arms around me.
"Why did you leave?" she asked me.
"I really don't want to get into that with you." I said sitting down the frame and walking to the living room.
"Why not?!" she yelled following me. "You owe someone an explanation!"
"But it's not you!" I turn yelling at her. "You're no one to me. So suggest backing off." I said in the coldest voice I could muster.
But she didn't get it. "And let you hurt him again? You don't deserve his affection or, for that matter, him." she said getting my face.
"Why?!" I spat out at her. "Is it because you want him? Well news flash Ms. Simpson." I gave her a sinister smile "He. Doesn't. Want. You. So get it over it." I said.
Her jaw dropped and I smiled at her. I didn't even see her hand moving but I felt it when it connected with my face.
She started to say something, but someone else's voice stopped her.
"What's the fuck is going on?" Nick said from the front doorway.
