CHAPTER 7 - WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?

I got up at 7:00am and did my usual routine before school. I got ready and headed out the door when someone paged me. I took the pager out of my bag and it said "1 48113 70 78715 70 11-99" which meant "I have to talk to you-99." It was Philip.

"Wonder what's up?" I thought. Just then I remembered that he left his bag in my living room and I took it with me.

I got to school and standing with his back to my locker was Philip. He looked concentrated in thought.

"Hey, what's up?" I smiled. "Oh, here's your bag," I said as I handed it to him.

He grabbed the bag and just looked at me without expression. "We have to talk," he managed after an awkward silence.

"What's wrong?" my smile went away.

"You know what's wrong," he gritted through his teeth. "You know damn well what's wrong."

"No I don't, just tell me," I said putting my hand on his arm.

He shoved me away. "Don't fuck with me," he yelled harshly. "I saw you and Jason kissing when I came back to get my bag."

"Jesus, get over yourself. He tried to make a move and me after he told me why he got beat up. He came out to me, but I pushed him away," I said with annoyance.

"Bullshit! I saw you two all over each other. Don't fucking lie to me, Eugene," he screamed at me.

"What the hell are you talking about? He was crying his eyes out. I was just comforting him," I retorted.

"Did you fuck him?" he whispered. "Did you just screw with me all this time? Was this like some fucked up game? Get me all up on your jock and then toss me out to the curb?"

"Christ, how can you say that? Look, I'm not gonna fucking argue with you in the middle of the hall. Somebody is gonna hear us and I have to go to class," I said as I turned away.

I walked into Chemistry with tears streaming down my cheeks. I took my seat silently as Jeanine and Jimmy tapped my shoulder.

"What's wrong?" Jeanine whispered.

"Nothing, I'm fine," I mumbled between sobs.

We got through an hour of class and I had just about forgotten the whole confrontation...until I walked to my next class.

I saw him walking through the hall staring straight at me. He had a hateful glint to his eyes as he shoved past me.

I silently walked into the room and managed through the rest of the day. At lunch, everyone inquired, "Where's Philip?"

I played it off and acted like everything was fine. "I dunno," I shrugged.

I didn't see him during P.E. and afterschool, I was about ready to leave when he grabbed my shoulder as I closed my locker.

"What?" I said.

"Look, we have to talk," he said, but with less anger than in the morning.

Seeing he was less resentful, I agreed.

We walked out of the building towards the neighboring park and he just said simply, "I care about you a lot and that's why I think we shouldn't make a boyfriend type of commitment. If you're not as serious about this as I am..."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I screamed. "I didn't do anything."

"I'm not gonna go through this again. We're just gonna keep on arguing," he looked me straight in the eyes.

I calmed down. "Look, I don't wanna break up with you. I've spent only a few days with you and I really like you."

"Well, I LOVED you...until you screwed it all up. I don't need anymore of your lies. Goodbye, Eugene."

"Christ, you aren't even gonna let me explain. You're just gonna walk away?" I cried.

I broke down and collapsed onto my knees in the field. It felt like I was stabbed in the stomach a million times. It got dark before I stopped crying and made it home.
