Fly Me Away 05
Brandon
Oh, God, here we go again. James is complaining how he still thinks his girlfriend is stepping out on him. I'm just seconds away from asking him if he wants me to put the moves on her. The gay factor won't get in the way because I want him to shut the fuck up. Hey, wait a minute. That's not such a bad idea!
"What if I try to sleep with her? You know, just to see if she is cheating on you. Then you can magically appear and catch us." I suggested quickly, anything to get him to shut up.
"You want me to let you sleep with my girlfriend? What kind of freak are you?" James responded defensively.
"I'm not really going to sleep with her, dipshit. I'm just gonna try to and then that's when you'll know your answer. No more guessing if this works right."
James stayed silent for a few seconds probably deciding on whether or not my idea was a good one or whether or not to beat me up where I'm standing. But finally he did answer me. And his answer was yes. He showed me a picture of her on his phone. Funny, his girlfriend is in my environmental science class and I know for a fact that she's cheating on him. Poor James. I guess he'll figure it out soon enough. But lucky me because I've seen her staring at me quite a bit. My plan might actually work without a hitch.
The two of us separated after hearing the bell. Few students started towards their classes. Danny was among them, but I wasn't able to catch up to him. He was in class already by the time I made it through the crowds. When he saw me walk in the room, his lips curled upwards into a huge smile.
"Morning," I said with a large grin of my own. "Ready for tonight?"
"Y-y-yeah," he gushed.
"Good because I am too. I'm gonna make us some dinner so try not to eat a lot of those macaroons your mom makes by the boat load."
Danny giggled, "Okay,"
Miss Sheeba collected everyone's project as soon as the final bell rang. She made sure we all understood that there would be a test on Tuesday followed by an essay. The entire class-minus Danny and me-groaned in discontentment. I don't mind because that means I get to spend even more time with Danny. See, it all works out for the best. This weekend we'll definitely be doing some heavy studying. Actually, what is probably going to happen is that Danny will be helping me study while he himself rests easy knowing the test content is securely locked in his memory.
Mr. Yale came on over the intercom making his Friday announcements. Nothing new was spoken, but he reminded everyone that the Spring Dance tickets would continue to be on sale at lunch. The dance is tomorrow, but I don't feel like going. First off I have no one to go with. Secondly, I'd rather be with Danny anyways. After the announcements, Miss Sheeba started some review for the test on Tuesday. Time flew by in the class, not because I was fascinated by the subject, but because I was staring at the back of Danny's head daydreaming about him. The two of us are continually growing closer every single day. Tonight there is going to be a lot of kissing and I wouldn't mind going even further. Danny doesn't seem ready for that at all, but hell I'd be happy with just being able to see what he's got. Who am I kidding, though? I'd blow him with no need for reciprocation. Oh, gee, that must just be my horny side talking.
I walked Danny to his second period before going to my own. If Mrs. Dern didn't lecture us today, then James is probably going to do some more bitching and nagging about his possibly unfaithful girlfriend.
"Okay, well, she's in my fourth period. Meet me in the science building right after fourth. I'll stop and talk to her about hooking up. When she agrees, you can then come in and do your thing." I said, making sure James understood the plan.
"When she agrees? How do you know she will?" he asked.
I had two choices here. On the one hand I can tell James that I've heard his girlfriend talking about all the other guys she's done or on the other hand I could keep my mouth shut. Then again, if I tell James what she's said, then I wouldn't even need to try to hook up with that ho-bag. Yeah, fuck it.
"Look, to tell you the truth, James, I've heard her talking about other guys before." My voice was hushed as to not allow anyone else to listen in. "I'm sorry, dude."
James looked sickly pale. I know the pain that someone feels when they learn their boyfriend or girlfriend is cheating on them. The feeling of loss and guilt can overwhelm someone who isn't strong enough. Those powerful feelings can swallow a person whole. It's especially difficult when you know you're falling in love with them...
"Well, that...explains a lot then." James said more softly than I've ever heard anything come out of his mouth.
"But look at it this way. You finally know the truth and you can leave her behind. Look towards the future instead of turning back to the past. You're a cool dude and you can do better." I tried giving him a pep talk, but nothing was working on him. He was just sitting and staring at his hands laid out on the desk in front of him.
He raised his hand. "Mrs. Dern, can I go to the health office?" She took one look at him, then wrote a pass out. He packed his stuff up and left without saying another word.
Third period came along way too late. Getting out of psychology was a great feeling. It was like I was leaving James' troubles there, but I'm kind of worried about him. He just left without saying anything to me. God, I hope he doesn't do anything stupid. He doesn't seem the type; however, anyone is capable of anything. I've learned that the hard way. Anyways, English took forever. Mrs. Zimmerman went over some things for graduation in June. It's not even May yet and the admin is already psyching the students up over graduation. Crap, I still have to buy my cap and gown.
Environmental science is the class I've been looking forward to all day and it's finally here. Right when I walked in the room, I noticed James' girlfriend giving me the eye. Unfortunately, her stare wasn't a bad one. Her stare was quite the opposite actually. It was a stare of want, of lust. Mr. O'Neil settled everyone down before giving us a pop quiz. After everyone finished, he told us to exchange with someone else so we could grade them. James' girlfriend-Katie, according to her paper-came over to me and snatched my paper leaving hers. We corrected them, then handed them back. When Katie gave me my paper back, she left a small note saying to meet her after class. I turned around and looked at her questioningly. She just winked at me and grinned. Oh, God, I can only imagine.
The bell rang for lunch. I didn't really want to meet Katie, but I'm sure she just wants to talk. So, while everyone else hurried to lunch, I waited outside the science building. Katie came up to me quickly and grabbed my hand and led me to a far corner away from everyone else.
"So, Brandon, how about we have some fun?" Katie asked seductively. She wrapped her arms around my neck and stared into my eyes.
"Uh... Um, I don't think so." I said, trying to break free of her grasp.
"Why not?"
"Because I'm interested in someone else and I'm not a cheater."
Katie let go of me and took a step back. "What is that supposed to mean?"
"I mean, James is a cool guy. Sure, he's arrogant and selfish and...a bit out there, but he's still a good guy. He knows you're cheating on him. The jig is up, but I don't know how it managed to stay a secret for so long. All you do in sci is talk about the guys you've slept with." I started to walk away as to not start anything more than I probably already have.
"You know what? Fuck you, you asshole! I'm no slut!" Katie practically screamed.
"Funny thing you mentioning being a slut since I never said you were." Her mouth dropped open, making her look even more pissed off. But whatever. I'm going to meet Danny by the bike racks. Tonight is the night I'm thinking of asking him out officially. I haven't had an unsure feeling since yesterday. Although, if I ask him out and have regrets, then what am I supposed to do? It's not like an hour after I ask I could just say I'm unsure again.
Danny was talking with his mom when I walked up. The bike racks were right by where she picked him up so I guess it made sense he was by the car instead of the racks. Mrs. Turner still didn't seem too happy to see me walking up.
"H-h-hey, Brandon," Danny said happily.
"Hey, bud," I replied. "Still ready for tonight?"
"Y-y-yeah,"
"Brandon, do you guys need dinner? I can order some pizzas or something." Mrs. Turner said, leaning over the center console to talk to me.
I shook my head. "That won't be necessary, Mrs. Turner. I'm making us some homemade chicken tortilla soup. But if you wanted to provide some macaroons, who's to object?" Danny giggled at my request. I think I actually saw a small smile grow on his mom's face, too.
"All right, well, when are you picking Danny up?"
"I'll be over some time around five. I have some quick errands to do before we hang out."
"And you're sure your parents won't mind him being there?"
"My parents definitely won't mind," I assured her.
"Okay then,"
Danny and I talked for a minute before I said that I was on a time schedule and it was a must that it be kept. He seemed a little tense and uneasy, but excited nonetheless. Surely the tenseness is just a result from his major excitement that is brimming inside of him.
The only errand that I truly have is to shop for dinner ingredients. I just want to make sure everything is set and ready before I go to pick Danny up. The Jacuzzi still needs to be turned on and warmed up. That could take a couple of hours.
While driving to the store, I took notice at the dark clouds beginning to blanket the blue sky. I guess we'll be having some stormy weather tonight. That's great, though! I absolutely adore storms. It's like the rain washes all my problems away. Maybe tonight the rain will wash away my feelings of doubt.
Danny
The clock struck four-thirty. Ever since I got home, all I've done is watched TV and just waited for five to roll around. But time seemed to be creeping by painfully slow. Mom got me to eat some lunch, and I thought that would kill some time, but when I finished, it only killed about ten minutes and that was right when we got home.
I'm so excited to hang out with Brandon tonight. Sure, the nervousness of being shirtless around him is still nagging at me, but when looking at the plus sides that little negative bit just seems to be eliminated.
"Danny, why don't you do some laundry? That'll kill a few minutes." mom said through the intercom, scaring me out of my thoughts.
"All right, m-m-mom," I replied into the speaker. I took my laundry basket downstairs into the laundry room. The directions on how to do everything were taped above the washer. "S-s-step one: separate the w-whites and colors." That was an easy thing to do. "Step t-t-two: turn washer o-on to heavy l-load. Then choose c-cold water. Let washer fill with w-water before adding l-laundry soap, up t-to the one o-on the m-measuring cap." Doing laundry is a pretty simple thing, I guess. I let the washer fill with water before I added the soap. I added my colors, then walked away and let the machine do what it does.
I walked into the kitchen for a glass of water. Mom was clipping some coupons from the newspaper while I filled a cup. She seemed completely into her activity, not even noticing I was in the kitchen with her. After I got my drink, I went out back to play with Reno. That would definitely kill some time in a fun way.
Reno got all excited when he saw me walk outside. He came running up to me with his chew toy and nudged my leg. I grabbed the toy from him and tossed to across the yard. We played fetch for a while before someone came out with us. I turned to see who it was and much to my surprise, Brandon came through the doorway.
"Brandon!" I shouted, running over to him and wrapping my arms around his body. He returned my hug and chuckled. "I'm s-s-so glad you're f-finally here. Time seemed t-to go by so s-slowly."
"Aww, well, I'm here now and I'm ready to have a great night." He squeezed me tightly. "Your mom said that you were in your room. What movie were you watching? It looked pretty cool."
"W-w-wow, mom must've been s-seriously i-into her paper. The m-m-movie was Star Wars."
"Well, can we watch it sometime?"
"Y-you've never seen a Star Wars m-movie?"
"Nope,"
"Then we d-d-definitely have to watch a-all six. Can we t-t-tomorrow?"
"There're six!? Yeah, how about at my house again tomorrow night?" Suddenly, a loud boom of thunder roared through the sky, causing me to jump in fright. Brandon asked softly in my ear, "Are you not good with storms?"
"N-no, it j-just scared me is a-all." I sighed slowly. "But t-tomorrow will be f-fun."
"Well, let's get going before we get rained out."
The two of us went back inside. Brandon stayed downstairs with my mom while I ran up to change into my swimsuit and grab a towel. When I came back down, mom had already packed up a container full of macaroons. She walked us out to his truck and waved us off as Brandon drove away.
"B-Brandon, I'm r-r-really nnnnervous about you...u-u-um...seeing m-me shirtless."
He looked at me and grinned. "You don't need to be nervous. I'm sure you're smokin' when you're half naked." I blushed brightly. "See, so don't worry about it. I won't even say anything if you don't want me to."
"It's a-all right. We'll b-be in your house s-s-so you can do what y-you want."
"Oh, poo," Brandon said. "I'll do my best not to drool."
We arrived at his house shortly after leaving mine. I had no idea that our houses are only a few miles apart. From the outside, it looked like a normal house. Then we stepped through the front door and it wasn't so normal anymore. Don't get me wrong, the inside's nice, but there weren't too many decorations. The walls were plain white. The carpet's a tan color. A black leather couch sat in the living room along with an entertainment center and a huge TV. Everything seemed so bland.
"W-w-what is that s-smell?" I asked, referring to the mouth-watering scent that filled the air.
"Oh, that's our dinner. Are you hungry right now?" I nodded. "Okay, well, I'll turn on the TV and get us a bowl." He led me into the living room and flipped through the channels trying to find something good to watch. He finally stopped on the National Geographic channel as they were airing a program about a plane exploding right after it took off.
Brandon headed off into the kitchen to get us some of his soup that he made. There was some sudden pelting against the window. I walked over to the window and saw that rain had begun to pour down from the clouds above. The drops were coming down in a light drizzle, but soon picked up to a steady fall.
Brandon
My cell phone began to ring. I looked at the ID and it showed 'Alex'. He's another guy from the football team that is for some reason drawn to me. "Hey, Alex, what's up?"
"There's a party tomorrow night at my place. You coming?" he asked me. With the background noise, it was hard to hear him.
"Uh, party?" I bit my lip and thought about it. A party sure would be nice, but tomorrow night I'm supposed to watch those movies. There's no way in hell I'm gonna cancel on Danny. "I... I don't know. I already made plans, but we'll see."
"All right, well, come whenever. The party's gonna last all night long!" He hung up without waiting for a response after that.
Going out to a party really does sound like a lot of fun. I could tell Danny that I mysteriously came down with something before tomorrow night. Yeah, what the hell? I deserve a night of fun and dancing and craziness. There hasn't been an opportunity like that since moving from my old home. And Danny and I can watch movies Sunday afternoon. No need to really do it tomorrow night.
I walked back into the living room. Danny's eyes were glued to the show that was still on. Our living room was so bare. We only had a couch, a coffee table, the TV, and the TV stand. Tomorrow I'll have to set up the surround sound for the Star Wars movies. Surround sound makes everything better after all. I set the bowls of soup on the table, then went back in the kitchen to get us some drinks. When I got back, Danny had already started downing the soup. By the way he was eating, it was clear that he was enjoying it.
"Th-this is r-really g-good soup," Danny commented. "What a-are these things?" He asked, holding a red and yellow bell pepper slice in his fingers.
"They're bell peppers," I said, taking a bite of my own soup. "On the bottom of the bowl are tortilla chips. Not the normal kind of chicken tortilla soup, but it's my version."
Danny and I finished eating our soup and continued on watching the show. Over the course of a few minutes, the two of us inched closer and closer to each other until our shoulders were touching. He turned his head, quickly kissing my cheek. I blushed, grinning from ear to ear.
"S-sorry,"
"Why're you sorry?" I grabbed his hand in mine to show him there was no need to be apologetic.
"F-f-for kissing you," he mumbled.
"Danny, don't be sorry for that. Obviously I like it considering we stick our tongues down each other's throats on a daily basis." Danny wouldn't look at me even though I was boring a hole right through him. A tear slid down his cheek. "Hey, hey, what's wrong?"
He sniffled, which melted my heart. "Y-y-you could have a-a-a-a-anyone you want, but you're s-still here with mmmme. I d-d-didn't know someone c-could actually like me l-like this." More and more tears flowed from his eyes, dripping onto his lap. His words were ripping me apart on the inside. "W-w-why mmme?"
I've never really had to deal with an insecure person before. To be honest, I had no idea what to say to him. The obvious would be to tell him all the great things about him, but with Danny it seems like those things aren't enough. So, instead of reassuring him with words, I decided to reassure him with a kiss.
I shifted my body so that I was facing him. He was still staring down at the ground, tears inching down his cheeks. With the delicateness of a butterfly, I lifted his chin with my hand. Danny still avoided my gaze, but I moved my other hand in front of his face, using two fingers to draw his eyes in the direction of mine. Now with our eyes locked, I just stared into them. Did you know that a person's eyes are a window into their soul? That's what I think anyways. My eyes conveyed exactly what I was feeling. Danny's on the other hand were dim and filled with pain. This poor guy in front of me has been through, I'm assuming, so much in his years alive. Society looks down upon those that don't fit the social norms that have been created throughout the history of man. Gay isn't becoming a norm per se, but it is becoming more and more accepted every single day. The mentally challenged, however, don't get as much support as they should. I'm not saying that gays get more support, maybe they do maybe they don't. The point I'm trying to make is that Danny needs someone to be there for him when he needs support. I'm gonna be that person for as long as I can be. For as long as he wants me to be. It's official. We're official.
"Danny," I whispered softly. "Believe me when I tell you that you're one of the most amazing people I have ever met." He squinted his eyes, lips quivering slightly. "Don't you think for a minute that I judge you because you stutter or because you're shy or anything else that you think is wrong with yourself. In my eyes, I just see you. The cute guy who has overcome a lot of adversity I'm sure."
He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. "Wwwhat are you s-saying?"
"I'm ready to be your boyfriend." Oh, my God, stop!"I want to be with you, Danny. I want to be your savior in this cruel world. If anyone messes with you, I'll be there. When you need help with something, I'll be there, too." Brandon, shut the fuck up!
The tension was finally gone. Danny lunged forward, clutching at me while sobbing into the crook of my neck as hard as I'd ever heard anyone do. I ran my hand up and down his back in a slow motion to try to calm him down. The wetness from all his tears was soaking through my jacket and shirt onto my shoulder.
"Y-y-you rrreally mean it, B-Brandon?"
"Of course I do, Danny," I replied softly, staring right back into his eyes. "I meant every word."
"I-I feel s-s-so happy right n-now."
"Well, good," I grinned. "Wanna go in the Jacuzzi now?"
"S-sure,"
The two of us went outside to the Jacuzzi. It's been heating up for hours now so it's hopefully at the right temperature. Luckily for us, the rain died down really fast to a very light mist. I'm sure it'll kick back up again, but hopefully not until we're done soaking. Danny seemed really nervous about something. He did tell me he was nervous about being shirtless, but that can't possibly still be bugging him. Then again...
"Danny, is everything all right?" I asked, stripping my shirt off with no feeling of embarrassment. My body is nice from the small amount of football I played back at my old high school. It's not seriously cut or anything, but it is firm. Hair is something I can't stand on my chest. That's the only part of me that I shave. The rest of my body hair is very minimal so it really doesn't matter anyways. As for a boyfriend having a little chest hair, that's okay. But on me, it's unacceptable.
"U-u-um, I d-don't know if I c-can t-take my shirt off." he said.
"Aw, Danny, I promise I won't say a word, not even about how cute I'm sure you look." He blushed a bright shade of red. I moved in front of him and grabbed the bottom of his shirt. His head snapped up and our eyes locked. I didn't stop, though. I just kept lifting his shirt higher and higher. Danny lifted his arms slightly, but not enough for me to pull the shirt over his head. Instead, I had to remove his head and then slide the shirt down his arms. "See, it's not so bad is it?"
Danny's cheeks were so red it kind of scared me. "B-B-B-B-B..."
I pulled him into me. He was trembling in my grasp either from the cold or fear. His breathing rate was increasing, sobs coming from his mouth. "Shh, Danny, it's all right," I softly cooed into his ear. "It's all right."
"I-I-I-I'm ssso s-s-sorry,"
"Danny, no!" My voice was sharper than I had wanted, but it doesn't matter. "Don't be sorry about anything. I know this stuff can be confusing and scary at first, but we'll get through this." I slowly led him into the tub. He had a hard time letting go of me, but once we got seated in the water I made sure to pull him back in close.
"Th-this is nice," he sighed happily. "I'm s-sorry about all that earlier."
The fact that Danny continually apologizes for nothing can cause a problem for me. He has absolutely no reason to be and I hate hearing people apologize when there's nothing they can do about it. Call it a pet peeve. In our relationship, I guess I'll just have to teach him not to feel so bad about everything.
For over two hours, the two of us stayed side by side in the hot water. Occasionally, a few rain drops would fall from the sky, but otherwise the weather remained chilly. We shared some conversation during our soak, but nothing serious. He laughed a few times at some of the funnier things. It was nice hearing his laughter; kind of like a little kid's laugh, but with more of an age to it. Yeah, that doesn't make too much sense. I just can't think of anything else to compare it to. There's still things we have to go through like coming out to his parents. Mrs. Turner is probably going to slit my throat once she finds out that her son is dating me much less gay. Hell, she'd probably grab him in a hug while aiming a gun at my brain.
We'll deal with the problems later, though. Right now, it's nice just enjoying the feel of his skin touching mine. Oh, shit. What about the party tomorrow night!? I already made plans with my...boyfriend. There's no way I can just cancel on him. But the party sounds like a blast and God knows I could use a nice party. Maybe if I just pretend to get sick. Then I'd have a reason not to go to Danny's. And it's not like it matters because it's going to be just this once! I refuse to lie to Danny ever. But this one time is an exception. Yeah. Party time tomorrow night!
Thank you to those of you who took the time and wrote Blake. He enjoyed all the letters a whole bunch! And I just appreciate it SO much!
