Garys Problem

This is a work of fiction, from my over-fertile mind, based on a scenario I dreamed up and made note of some time ago. Writing works that way for me, a lot.

Writing for Nifty is new to me. I love the service, though, and hope everyone donates whatever they can to help support it. It really is the best place to express yourself. Please donate as much as you can.

Gary's Problem Chapter 9

The next couple months brought some unexpected situations.

Darby, Max, Gary, and I had been discussing the possibility of making a place where guys like Gary and Darby could live together, in privacy, and around people who could help them.

Gary liked the idea, but insisted on no women. It was a reasonable request, I felt, considering Gary's history, which I recently just learned, myself. Gary was adopted by his current family. His real mother was abusive, his real sisters were abusive. He was locked in the basement--not a fixed-up one, either--when he was a bad boy. Eventually, he beat the crap out of his most abusive sibling after a particular incident, and ran away, never to return, at the ripe old age of 12. There's more to his story, of course, but it amazes me how kind and gentle he became and is--well, since I've known him anyway--to everyone, women, included.

I was Ok with no women, too, partially because of my last several relationships with them. I get along fine with them--usually--I just won't ever give my heart to them again--not after what I've felt with Gary, a man.

Darby and Max didn't contest it either. Max explained: "Women have plenty of outlets for their needs. Men have very little. That's because, women do a better job of taking care of all-things-woman', than men do with their fellow brothers. Building a place to house those...damaged...men, where then can rise above their I'm the only one' syndrome, and their `abandoned, rejected lover' situation, because almost everyone of them--unless they also like dick--have nothing but their bodies, no, their torsos to defend themselves or attract any interest.

I've noticed , as I've met more amps that--especially quads--gain weight, really fast. I was starting to see that happening with Gary's body, though, with the diet he's under with my cooking, and the muscle strengthening we've been practicing in our sex, I was't too worried. But maybe we could start a torso- building facility to help those who want or need it, and someone to help them.

Max, loved that idea. "I've noticed that my baby, though he's also getting older, is getting pudgier too. He knows it, too, but if we could adopt your diet, and have a place to develop his torso, that would take care of a lot. And, if we can provide that and security for others like Darby and Gary, all the better. OK, Benjamin, I've got an idea how we could do this. Let me make some calls and see what's available."

Two months later, I noticed `For Sale' signs on both properties, north of me. The day after, the signs were gone. Boy, somebody pounced on that one, I thought.

Two nights later, Darby and Max buzzed themselves in (at our request), but called on their cell first, to let us know they were coming.

"Gentlemen," Darby greeted as they came in smiling.

"We need to toast," Max added.

"To what?" Gary asked.

"We're now your new neighbors," Max said, beaming.

"You bought both places, didn't you," I said to Max.

"You betcha! this lake would be very calming and maybe inspiring, who knows, for disabled vets." Max said, "but the thing is, we got those two properties for a song, well, not really a song, but...anyway," the started but past the talking to Darby.

"When we told the town why we wanted to buy that land, they bent over backwards to make it work for us."

To me, he said, "Do you know, young man, that you were on the tv news?"

"I was what?" I was floored, that's what I was.

"Gary wasn't because we told everyone to stay away."

"Yea," Gary snickered, "Ben's always tryin' to steal my limelight," he teased.

I wrinkled my nose at him.

"So, anyway," Darby continued, "We now have a future to plan for. I know how we," meaning he and Max, "feel about it, and I know this is sudden, but it's important to know what you boys feel about all this that we're proposing."

Actually, Gary and I had discussed it briefly had decided then that we would do what we could to help, but nothing after that. I conveyed this to the boys and they hugged us. Darby and Gary had started this kind of bump type thing, Darby with prosthetic legs and Gary in his saddle. It was tight, comforting. Max and I just sorta' hugged with nothing stressed, although, when we unhugged, he stood looking at me and still holding me, smiled.

"Never doubt, my man that one act of kindness can `pay forward' as they say. This all started because you selflessly went to the aid of your friend, and look where we are today, because you did that one thing. Thank you sir," he said, sobbing tearfully and grasping my hand between us... at chest level (in case you're interested).

So, this was all because of one little thing I did, huh? Just for loving someone...Cool, I guess. Gary is happy, that's all I care about.

That's all, folks. Remember it's fiction and limited in scope, though it has succeeded in generating interest in the problem for Vets, at least among Nifty readers. I don't claim to know much about prosthetics, I used what seemed a logical approach. I'm glad this has somehow awakened a concern, maybe a dialog even about how we care for our Vets. God bless you all gentlemen.
