The Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters

Chad woke up in a large room filled with beds. There were several people around his bed, including Scott, Professor Xavier, Jean, Storm, and Warren. The headache that Chad had made him a little groggy. "What happened?" Chad asked.

"You had an anxiety attack. I believe that you have a case of Claustrophobia." Xavier said.

A large man with blue fur came up to Chad and stuck a thermometer in his mouth. "Just keep it there for a few more seconds," He said.

Chad apparently had a startled look on his face because Professor Xavier chuckled and said, "This is Dr. Hank McCoy. He is one of our resident physicians."

Hank gave a shy smile and waved. He reached for the thermometer and said, "98.6, he's going to be alright."

Jean, Storm, and Warren gave Chad a hug. The three of them left. Xavier began speaking once the door closed. "The end of your tour was supposed to be here anyways, we need to run a few tests and get some of your vitals etc. Scott will stay here and show you the rest of the underground portion of the school once you are finished."

After Xavier left, Hank took Chad's weight, height, wingspan, and temperature and recorded them. "Okay, now we need to do a quick I. Q. test." Hank said.

"What's an I. Q.?" Chad asked.

"It is your Intelligence Quotient. It shows how smart you are. Mine is in the high 300's." Hank replied.

Hank brought over a strange helmet looking machine and hooked it up. Chad was surprised at how easy it was. Hank explained how it worked. "This machine is one of my own designs. Instead of taking a 400 page test, we go straight to the source of all your knowledge. This particular way of testing cuts the time by about 97.43285764 percent."

Hank put the machine on Chad's head and turned it on. After a few minutes, Hank turned it off and printed the results. Chad was confused when Hank called for Professor Xavier saying that it was an emergency.

Xavier wheeled in and Hank gave him the paper. Xavier's jaw dropped. Chad was starting to feel a little annoyed at this whole being kept in the dark thing until Professor Xavier said, "Your results are astonishing! Your I. Q. rivals Hank's. I will probably not even assign you classes because I don't think we offer classes that are quite hard enough to challenge you." Xavier told Scott to finish the tour then he and Chad walked out.

Danger Room

Scott brought Chad up to a door that was larger than all of the others in the hallway. Scott punched in a code and the door opened. "This," Scott said, "Is the Danger Room."

Chad walked into a huge room. Up at the top of the ceiling was a small control room. Chad focused his eyes and saw that Warren was in the control room watching him and Scott. After a couple minutes, he saw a window in the control room open and Warren flew out. There was something different about Warren. Chad realized what it was. Instead of Warren's normal flawless, tanned complexion, his skin was a baby blue color.

"I hope you like the change. As part of my mutation, my skin is blue. Professor Xavier gave me a watch that will project a hologram across my body showing that my skin is the tan color that you saw first hand." Warren explained his change in appearance.

"Well, why are we here?" Chad asked.

"I am going to teach you how to fly. Now," Warren began instructing. "You have to jump into the air. You then spread your wings and start beating them rapidly. After that, everything should come second nature." Warren jumped and flapped all in one graceful motion. He became airborne and began flying around the Danger room.

Chad mimicked what he saw his mentor do. He was FLYING! He felt so free and alive. His entire past melted away as he embraced the altitude and air. The danger room was tall so he was able to fly up and down. Oh, God, he could get used to this.

When his wings were sore from the workout they had received, he gently folded them and swooped down, landing gracefully on his feet. Warren, astonished by this feat, let out a loud whistle. "Chad, you're a natural!"

Chad was beginning to feel sore all over. He had worked muscles that he never knew he had. His chest muscles, which were directly linked to his wings, were throbbing. "Warren, that's enough for today." Chad said and walked out. He located the elevator and paused.

I can't go in there,' Chad thought. I will probably pass out and no one will find me.'

"I can go with you, to help you. I know of your Claustrophobia," He heard Warren's voice behind him.

"I would like that," Chad said without looking to face Warren.

Warren walked up to the elevator and pressed the open button. The two of them walked in. When the door closed, Chad put his face in Warren's chest. Warren held him in an embrace. "There is nothing scary about the elevator. You are safe," Warren spoke with a soft voice.

Chad felt safe in Warren's arms. He felt like he belonged there. He wanted to stay like that forever, but the elevator ride only lasted for a minute.

When the door opened, Chad stood up straight again. Chad took in a deep breath and said, "Is it okay if I stay with you tonight, ya know, in your room."

Chad held his breath until Warren said "Yeah, I think that will work. But I only have one bed, so we'll have to share."

"I don't mind," Chad replied.
