Generation X Chapter 5 By Michael Johnson and Kandi Bauer
Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Thoughts raced through Chad's head. Was he ready to trust Warren? He and Warren had only been around each other for a short amount of time. Confusion filled him as he walked into Warren's room and sat on the bed.
"Chad, what are your powers?" Warren asked as he removed his shirt and pants.
Flashes of Mezmero's rape and torture filled his mind's eye. He put his hand to his head.
"What's wrong?" Warren rushed over to Chad.
Chad shook his head. "Nothing."
"Obviously there is something wrong. Tell me. Open up." Warren said as he sat down next to Chad and put his hand on Chad's back.
"I... I am just not ready."
"I can deal with that. Now, what are your powers?" Warren asked.
Chad's insecurities about Warren faded. He knew in his heart now that Warren wanted to be a father figure first, friend and fuck-buddy second. "I don't know. I remember that one particular time I wished that I could escape and then wings appeared. I wanted something to go away and it did."
"Well, when you said it went away, did it vanish completely or did it move?" Warren asked.
"It moved, why?"
"It sounds like you have a bit of telekinesis, what Jean has, but I don't know how to explain the wings. Normally a physical mutation like that appears at birth. It just doesn't come out at the time your other mutations come along. As for your I. Q, that's a genetic mutation that was there at birth. Oh, by the way, how old are you?"
"I think I am twenty. I don't know." Chad sighed.
"Well, after the workout, I think you are probably tired. Let's go to sleep." Angel said.
Chad got up and said, "I hope you don't mind but I am going to just go to my room." With that he walked out.
XAVIER'S OFFICE
Warren walked into Professor Xavier's office the next morning after some research on a mutant that the X-Men tangled with many years ago.
"What brings you here this morning, Mr. Worthington?" Xavier asked with out even turning looking to see who was at the door.
"I had a talk with Chad last night and this morning I did some research on a young mutant that you tried to recruit a long time ago. I wasn't able to get all the information, but his powers are limited by his imagination." Warren said.
"I remember the lad you are talking about. But how is this relevant?" Xavier asked.
"I asked him about how he got his wings. He said that he wished he was free and they appeared. Do you get where I am going with this?"
"Yes. I do. I am just surprised that he hasn't shown any signs of any kind of mutation besides his heightened I. Q. and his wings." Xavier told him. "I am going to probe his mind again in hopes of turning off some bad memories and maybe getting a look at what he is capable of."
"But after what happened last time, don't you think that he might be a little more apt to allow Jean to do it instead. He trusts her." Warren replied.
"I am just not sure that she is ready. What I saw was terrible. It could rival what you have been through." Xavier tried to reason.
"I just don't think that he'll allow you to probe his mind. He will only trust Jean with this."
"Okay," Xavier said and then dismissed Warren
THE PROBING
Chad hurried to Xavier's office. He got a call that it was important. He walked in and saw Storm, Jean and Xavier. "Good afternoon, Chad." Xavier said.
"Chad, we have reason to believe that your powers are far beyond anything we can imagine. This time, I am going to go through your mind and block some memories that might be restraining you from using them," Jean said.
Chad shook his head a little. "No, you can't I- I- can't let you." He reached to open the door but Jean kept it from opening.
"I promise that I will only shut memories down. You won't see any of them." Jean said looking directly into Chad's eyes.
Chad said a faint okay and sat down in a chair aside of Jean. Jean telekinetically moved her chair around so that she was directly in front of Chad. "Just try to relax," she said as she put out her hands on either side of his head and closed her eyes.
She was searching for a box. Mezmero had to have constructed a prison for Chad's powers in his mind. She came across a large door. Using Telekinesis, she busted the door into several pieces and floated in. She saw Chad's subconscious self huddled in the center of a large room. She walked over to him cautiously and kneeled down. She knew she had released his power when the floor around Chad/his subconscious turned liquid and then formed into a barrier between the two of them. "You are free now," She said and then pulled out of his mind.
Jean put her hands down and opened her eyes. Chad's blank stare turned into a conscious one and he put his hand to his head.
"Are you okay?" Storm asked putting her arm on Chad.
Jean, Storm and Xavier watched in amazement as his wings melted into his back. "Chad, you may go now." Xavier said. Chad walked out and went straight to his room.
MEZMERO'S ISLAND
"Your Majesty, I have located him," Mezmero kneeled in front of a large statue of Apocalypse. "I will break his spirit again by allowing him to feel like he is part of their family and then snatching him when he least expects it."
<Will you have him in time to sacrifice him and allow me to once again arise in power?> Apocalypse asked his faithful servant.
"His murder will be on time, I assure you."
