~~Patrick~~

A few weeks later we were back in Torrand. This time it was a different dorm unit on the other side of campus. I was a bit worried how people were going to react. What was going to happen this semester after the mess from the last one. Just looking over the Coed dorm a moment however had me smile a little. Again it was a old apartment building, seemed the whole college had been at one time. This one had been worked into units with three rooms sharing a living room and kitchnette though we had to sign waivers that if we cooked and set anything on fire we had renters insurance. Which made since. Logan emerged from the main door as I waited by the truck, waving at me.

"Let's go in. We're on the top floor. They said one of the couples has already checked in."

"Great loggey. At least it's already furnished, did the new mattress make it yet?"

"Not yet, the truck should be here today."

He huffed impatiently, just grabbing one of the boxes from the truckbed along with a pulling suitcase. I did the same with another set, brushing off a bit of horse hair from the canvas cover.

"I'm going to miss the animals, and Neil, Gabe, all of them."

"Yea, I know. We can go visit Lucy, Captain and the dogs though. You know that. Gabe is just a phone call away. Neil is likely back in our old dorm building so should be easy to run into."

I shrugged and hoped Logan was right. Simply following his lead into the building, It had a large communal room right off the front door, a office to one side, two elevators as well, both with a crowd in front of them waiting too. I sighed a bit, shooting a look at the stairwell then our bags, everyone elses bags as well.

"Think we can take the stairs?"

"Four floors with the the suitcases or boxes maybe but both? Thats asking for a fall. Let's just wait our turn."

Logan sighed too. One of the people in front of us looked back.

"You fellas going to the fourth too? What room? Me an the wife are in room 4-24."

Logan paled a little suddenly and cleared his throat, evidently as nervous as I was about coming out in front of a group of at least ten waiting there.

"Erm... We're your new roommates evidently. Are you just arriving? They said one couple was already there?"

The guy looked back, he did look familiar somehow though I could not place him. He seemed to equally recognize us and then Logan smiled a bit tenatively.

"Hey Juan. Your wife and daughter staying here too?"

"Just Lisa, Rosa is staying with her grandparents for the semester. Good to see you fellas coming back. We got here last night, not sure who the third couple is. Explains why our R.A. was asking those sorts of questions."

What sorts of questions was something I was not brave enough to ask in public. Simply heading into the elevator with Logan and Juan after someone else chimed they were going to 4-15. Once upstairs we found our apartment. The building had been recently refurbished. The hallway smelling of paint. There was a man leaning on the doorway of apartment 24 knocking loudly. Juans shoulders slumped.

"Guys, This is the r.a. Michael. Michael this is Logan and... Sorry, I'm bad with names."

"Patrick Divan. It's okay, We only met the once last year. Nice to meet you Michael."

Michael looked me up and down once, then Logan who had shuffled his box to the side and extended his hand politely. The R.A. ignored it.

"About time you showed up. You're checking in late. I had a report you brought in alcohol Juan, Your girl won't let me in to check."

"Seeing as she is not here, she went to get us some take out, it is rather difficult for my Wife to let you in. No we do not have any alcohol. We know better and they are not late. We still have another week to check in."

Juan was quick to snap off, shouldering Michael aside so he could unlock the door. We headed inside where someone had already been at work. There were small dollar store sized whiteboards attached to the kitchenettes cubboards, each with a A, B, or C on it. The fridge had a larger whiteboard on it with three columns. Column C already had a list of food written on it. Michael immediately barged in and began pulling the whiteboards off.

"You can't stick anything to the furniture. No nails, No glue, No tape."

He then started opening cabinets, the fridge, the freezer. Looking for the illicit liquer I presumed. I shot a look at Logan who was balling up his fist. Juan grinding his teeth. Then Michael ripped open a box of fudgescicles and began taking one out. I found myself surprised when I yanked the box and package from his hand after having set the box of belongings on the counter.

"Those are not yours. They are Juan and Lisas."

"Doesn't have their name on them."

Michael sneered at me, Logan walked over and turned the box around to show that 'Lisa' was written in giant block letters on the package.

"Fine, No alcohol, No orgies, no parties, No kids, Curfew is at eleven."

He stormed out, I put the box back, trying to swallow the lump in my throat. This was a bad idea. Just a bad idea.

"Can't we report him?"

Logan grumbled. Juan sighing.

"Nope, He's not actually said anything or really done much other than trying to help himself to our food and making accusations. He was asking if I was Sure I did not have a problem with gays and keeps making comments to me about alcohol. I'm starting to think hes not just a asshole but a racist, homophobic one."

"Yea, maybe he'll slip up or enough people will complain. He likely did the same with the third couple. What room are we loggey?"

~Logan~

I was doing my best to reel in my temper, wanting nothing more than to slug the R.A. within three minutes of having met him. Still fuming it took me a minute to realize Patrick had asked a question. I scrambled for the box I had dropped on the counter, checking the room.

"Room A. So the other couple will be between our rooms."

"The doors all have letters on them. Those the college nailed on so he better not fuss. Take pictures before you move in, of everything. Our bedframes got a chip in it the size of texas and I just Know he's going to claim we did it."

Juan grumped, heading for the kitchen and putting the whiteboards back up. Magnets on the inside of the cabinet to hold them in place. I looked over the 'welcome to Torand' rule list for our dorms. It said clearly you could hang things anywhere you liked as long as you used no nails. blue or green tack putty, or command strips only on the walls, magnets only on the fridge or cabinets. You could have locks installed on the cabinets by contacting maintenance too so you could put a gym style key lock on them as a last resort. Patrick had that look of his though and I knew what was going through his mind.

"Hey, it's going to be okay Patty. We'll hardly have to deal with him and I think hes going to wind up gone before the semester anyhow, he's already fudging the rules. Lets get the pictures taken, our things put away and see who our third set is right?"

"Yea, Let's get it all taken care of."

Pat pulled out his phone, heading into the room to get the photos. I had a thought about that.

"Hey, Pat, Juan, email those photos to someone with a timestamp. Just in case then save it in a folder in your mail."

"Good idea Logan."

Juan was putting the icecream back though once done he headed off to do just. I hauled the boxes into the barebones room then. Surprised to find our room had it's own bathroom.

"No more jackbath?"

"You doidn't look at the floorplan I linked you at all did you love? Each room has a bathroom of its own. Only the middle room has a tub instead of a shower though. Considering how small these closets are I know where they took the space. We'll have to get a wardrobe or something for the rest of our clothes."

I just gave him a puzzled look, thinking the only time I'd heard that phrase being used was in movies or books. Did anyone even still make those things? If Patrick wanted one however I'd find one for him even if it meant learning woodwork to make one myself. I just set the boxes in the room, suitcases as well. Eyeing the bed with its slats.

"Too bad the mattress isn't here yet. They must have a backlog."

At that the front door slammed open with a rather lot of noise so I poked my head out. It seemed our new roommates had arrived with company as a group of twelve people swarmed into the living room which was far too small.
