Hard Life part 3

All Jaiden could think about in his last period was what Mrs. Young could possibly want to see both him and Cole for. Well whatever it is it can't be that bad. Can it? Maybe it's something stupid like they both did horribly on their last test and they will have to retake it in order to pass for the semester. Before Jaiden knew it the last bell rang and everyone shot out of the room like a dag chasing a frisbee.

Jaiden was so deep in thought that he almost walked into Cole as he went into Mrs. Young's classroom.

"Watch it ass!" Sputtered Cole who was apparently in deep thought too.

"Why don't you watch it?!" Replied Jaiden with equal surprise.

"Boys stop fighting and both of you get your asses in here," said Mrs. Young. This is not the first time they have heard their physics teacher curse and it probably won't be the last.

"Temporary truss," offered Jaiden.

"Agreed," replied Cole. Despite his cocky and impertinent behavior, Cole is actually a very smart guy. He just lets his brawn show more than his brain. We entered the room and sat down not looking at one another.

"Now boys I'm sure you have been wondering why I asked you see me," said Mrs. Young.

"Yes ma'am," replied Jaiden and Cole.

"Well I have some bad news that concerns both of you - no it has nothing to do with test scores Mr. Rodriguez. Both you and Cole did the best in the whole class as usual," said Mrs. Young.

"Really? Then why do you want to see us?" Asked Cole.

"It's concerning both of your fathers," began Mrs. Young starting to cry.

"Jaiden your father died in a drug related crash last night. Cole you dad, my brother, was also in that car...and...also didn't...didn't make it," sobbed Mrs. Young. Both Jaiden and Cole were stunned and didn't say anything.

"Neither of them were driving," said Mrs. Young regaining her composure. Cole burst into tears and this must have set Jaiden off because he started crying too. Out of nowhere Cole embraced Jaiden and cried into his shoulder. Slightly taken aback Jaiden returned the hug.

"Now I understand that both of you don't have a mother to continue staying with. Jaiden I know you have been staying with Ms. Summers for the past two months. What I'm proposing is that both of you move in with me and I take custody of both of you," said Mrs. Young. Jaiden didn't know what to think of this. It would be better for Elana. It's hard enough for one high school student to live on their own and stay in school. He couldn't imagine how hard it must be for two even if he helped out financially.

"Ok," said Jaiden still sobbing.

"I will too," croaked Cole. This kinda caught Jaiden off guard. Doesn't Cole understand that he would be living with one of his worst enemies?

"Ok then it's settled. Jaiden, Ms. Summers will help you move anything that belongs to you. Cole, I will help you do the same thing. Also keep in mind that sadly you will have to share a room, so don't pack too much that there won't be any room for you to be comfortable," said Mrs. Young. This oddly enough didn't bother either of them.

"Ok I'll go and tell Elana," said Jaiden

"Alright sweetie let me write down my address and Cole let's go ahead and get your things," replied Mrs. Young. Jaiden left the room to find Elana just at the end of the hallway. Her look of glee faded instantly when she saw the look of dismay on Jaiden's face.

"What's wrong? Did you finally get something below a 95?" Asked Elana.

"No...Cole's dad and my dad died in a car crash last night," said Jaiden with renewed sobs.

"What? Jaiden...I'm so sorry," said Elana embracing Jaiden.

"I've also agreed to move in with Mrs. Young. Cole has also agreed to do the same," said Jaiden.

"Why? You know you can stay with me."

"I know, but I'm beginning to feel like a burden on you. Also you're gonna want your house to yourself now that you have Justin," smiled Jaiden.

"Oh shut up," laughed Elana. "Come on. Let's go get your stuff."

When they finally loaded all of Jaiden's cloths and the small amount of personal items in Elana's car, they headed over to Mrs. Young's house. By the time they found the house Mrs. Young and Cole were already taking Cole's things in the house.

"Thank you for doing this Mrs. Young," said Jaiden as he walked to her door with all his things in two bags.

"Oh it's nothing Jaiden, and please call me Jennifer or Jen if you like. We are not at school right now so it's fine by me if you call me by my first name," said Jen. Jaiden also noticed that she called him by his first name. That's a first.

"Ok Mrs. Youn- I mean Jen."

"Oh Jaiden is that all your bringing? I made Cole limit the amount of items because of all the mean and hateful things he does to you on a daily basis," said Jen.

"I'm fine with what I got. If Cole wants to bring more of his stuff that's fine with me."

"Is there something that you wanted that we didn't get?" Asked Jen.

"No I'm ok," replied Cole.

"Alright you two go and get settled. Also I'm afraid that there is only one bed in the guest room. Well it's not a guest room anymore it y'alls bedroom, and the bathroom will be yours to share as well," said Jen. We just started to walk in when Jen said, "Oh, and Cole."

"Yes Aunt Jen?"

"No, I repeat, no drug of any kind is to enter this house. Got it!?"

"Yes ma'am," replied Cole. And with that they headed to their new room.

It was a nice room. Not really big, but not exactly small either. The bed was just big enough for both of them to sleep on.

"Jaiden," said Cole with the unmistakable sound of sadness and remorse in his voice.

"Yeah?"

"I...I just want to say...sorry for all...all the shit I put you through every day," said Cole.

"It's ok dude. I guess I can forgive you. I mean I would look like a total ass if I didn't," replied Jaiden.

"You know? There is one thing my aunt is wrong about," said Cole.

"Really? What's that?"

"I've never done drugs, and I never will," said Cole.

"Could have fooled me," laughed Jaiden as he threw a pillow at Cole.

"Hey stop it," chuckled Cole hitting the pillow back at Jaiden.
