... From Chapter 3:
"Sounds to me like you two have some things to discuss." I said. "Gary -- I already told Bobby -- what you told me. But he couldn't believe it. By the look on his face -- I think you better just tell him!"
"Bobby -- I really like you! I really do!" Said Gary.
"I'll see you two around -- maybe." I said. "Bobby -- any time you want to talk ... "
I turned and walked away. Bobby hollered after me, "But -- you never told me if you were gay!"
I looked around quickly to see if anyone else was near enough to hear Bobby. "Shh!" I said. ""No, I guess I didn't, did I?"
Chapter 4
I wonder how many others at Williams High were gay and I never knew it. I guess my joke to my dad about my gaydar wasn't far off!
After 3 more weeks of seeing Gilbert on the weekends -- with Joey always in tow -- I started to wonder if he was fascinated more with me or ... my family! I like Joey -- he turned out to be such a good kid! He still was pretty much an exhibitionist -- and I expect if he got the chance, he would be as promiscuous as when I met him. But I could see that he was just that way because he was so starved for attention at home.
But ... I wanted more alone time with Gilbert! I was really getting attached to him. In the back of my head I knew that it would have to come to a screeching halt in September. But he was my "first love", so to speak. And I never felt satisfied by Sunday -- when he went home. They would stay all weekend, and my mom, especially, was delighted. She liked the idea that she was being kind to two boys who were otherwise in a pretty sad situations, I think.
In late August, I asked him, "Gilbert -- does Joey ALWAYS have to come up here with you?"
"Naw -- I guess not. But he'd just get into trouble if I left him at home."
"You can't watch over him forever." I said.
"Don't you like him?"
"You know I do! But sometime, I'd like to have you -- just you -- all to myself, Gilbert!"
(And all we've ever done is jacked each other off! -- I thought)
"I'm -- um -- a little worried -- about that."
"Huh?" I said.
"You're gonna leave in two weeks." He said, hurt showing on his face.
"I know that, and you are my first love -- I mean my first boyfriend. I just -- was hoping -- I dunno -- that we could spend some time alone -- or something."
"Well, we'd still be here with your parents."
"What if we took a trip to Eureka - and see the big trees. Have you ever been up there?"
"Um -- no. Frisco is as far as I go!"
"I've never been up to see them either -- and I've lived here all my life. Some people come from around the world to see those big redwoods. Let's drive up and,"
"I couldn't afford the gas!"
SHIT! All this time I've been letting him drive up here!
"I can!" I said. "We can drive up for the weekend -- next weekend! We can camp out -- under the stars -- in sleeping bags!"
(Zipped together!)
"I'd hate to leave Joey behind!"
"He doesn't WANT to be alone with me!" I thought. The next few moments were deafening -- for the silence.
"But -- if you really want to - "
I could tell that he didn't want to leave his "little brother" at home. "Naw -- it's okay. Bring him along." I said.
Gilbert immediately brightened. "I wish there was someone that he could bring!" He said idly.
The next day I had to mow Mrs. Rowler's lawn again. It was a weekly event, but she paid well. As I was out -- shirtless as usual, Bobby again stopped by. I was at once self conscious and glad. I didn't think I'd see him again
"Hey Mikey!" He said.
I stopped the mower and walked over to his Vette. "Still looking good -- only maybe a little darker and a lot better!" He grinned.
"How are you doing, Bob-bob?" I said that on purpose, knowing that it was what Gary had called him. "How are things going with Gary?"
"Oh -- um -- we -- um -- finished our experiment."
"Finished? What does that mean.?"
"We decided that we aren't gay. We just like each other as best friends. But I'm not sorry that we did that. Now we know. How about you?"
He was still fishing! "I -- um -- well -- I mean -- did you and Gary -- try sucking?"
"Yeah." He said almost too casually.
"And -- you didn't like it?"
"No -- I mean -- well, yes and no -- or rather we LIKED it, but then we tried kissing. We -- erm -- he didn't like that part. So we decided no more sex. Haha! We still whack-off together when we stay over, though! I think all guys do that."
I never did!
Then I noticed it. All the while we were talking, Bobby was staring at me -- all of me! It was a little too obvious that he was at least somewhat aroused.
"Hey -- good to see you, Bob-bob! I better get back to work! Nice to see you!"
"When are you leaving for Chicago?"
"In two weeks."
"Will I see you again?" The way he said it sounded almost pathetic. "I was wishing we could talk some more."
"I'd like that! Maybe we can get together some night after work." I said.
"Okay -- well -- see yah!" he said as he dropped his Vette in low and slowly drove off.
Yeah -- like I believe he decided he's not gay!. Maybe Gary is not -- or isn't ready to admit it to himself -- yet. As soon as Bobby was gone I flipped my phone out.
"Hi."
"Hi Michael! I didn't expect to hear from you until tonight! Yeah -- well that's okay -- not that I know of, why?"
I immediately figured out that he couldn't talk. "Hey -- can you listen?"
"Uh-huh."
"I have a friend here that -- may like to go up to the redwoods with us -- and can be a pal for Joey."
"Is he gay?"
"I'm not quite sure, but if anyone can find out -- it'd be Joey!"
"Is he clean? I took Joey to be tested earlier this week. He is! I have been teaching him how important it is to be clean."
"Bobby is practically a virgin!"
"Practically, huh?"
"He's only fooled around a little with his best friend. Gary decided they weren't gay. I get that Bobby isn't so sure!"
"How old is this kid?"
"Seventeen."
"That's still 2-tears older than Joey."
"Joey's almost 16, Gilbert, and he's a pretty mature 16-year-old!"
"Okay -- have you already told this kid -- Bobby -- that we're going?"
"No -- I wanted to get your okay first. You're driving."
"That's okay -- you're paying for the gas!"
"Bobby?" I said.
"Who's this?" I had never called him. He didn't know my number.
"It's Mikey -- Headly."
"Oh - Headly! Bobby's driving Dude! Hold on!" I recognized Gary's voice.
"Hello?"
"Hi -- can you talk?"
"Tonight? Sure! I'll see you about 7:30 then, huh?"
"Can you come to my house?"
"Yeah, I like your parents too. Tell them I can't wait! Ciao!"
I guessed correctly that he didn't want Gary to know anything about -- well, obviously anything -- since he didn't know what I was going to ask him anyway.
When Bobby got there, Dad answered the door.. "Hello! You must be the Charlie Pepper's boy."
"I AM! How did you know?"
"I saw your car. I think you had the only red Corvette at the high school."
"I still do! I graduate next June."
Hey-hey, Bob-Bob!" I said. I liked calling him that. It always made his cheeks red. Dad -- Mom -- this is Robert Pepper."
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Headly."
"C'mon into my room, Bobby."
As soon as we were in my room, "What was it that was so secretive this afternoon?"
"I -- just didn't know of you cared to have Gary now about it. We want you to go camping with us this weekend."
"We?"
"Me and this friend from Woodland."
"Wo! A three some?" He said unser his breath -- though no one could have heard him anyway.
"No. He's bringing his little brother -- and I thought you'd like him."
"How old is he?"
"Fifteen."
"Geez!"
"He's almost 16! And he's well -- let's say he's mature -- in a lot of ways."
"Is he cool?"
"Well -- yeah. He's just a nice kid. If you don't want to - " I was getting a little irritated -- and couldn't keep it from showing.
"Calm down, Headly. I'll go! Do you think you and I will get any time alone?"
"I -- think -- that you will want all your alone time with Joey."
"Joey is his name? That sounds like a little kid!"
"Um -- hey!" I said, grabbing his face in mine and bringing myself nose to nose. "Mike-ee to Bob-ee!"
"Okay -- I got your point. 15 huh?" He said then he pulled me in and kissed me on the mouth. I automatically opened and gave him some tongue. "You still like it!" He said. "Nice!"
"So -- all you need is - "
"Are we sleeping out?"
"Under the stars!"
"I've got all I need. Will we be hiking any distance?"
"I hadn't thought about it."
"I'm an Eagle Scout. My dad wouldn't let me drive until I got it. I know all about back packing and camping."
"You may want to bring two sleeping bags." I said.
"Two -- doesn't this dude have one?"
"If he does, it may not zip together with yours!" I smirked.
"Oh -- WO!" so -- Joey's gay?"
"He might be!"
"And you? Are you admitting to anything -- yet?"
"Ah -- haha -- I haven't even done as much as you have, Bob-Bob! Maybe after this weekend we'll both know more!"
"Please don't ever call me that in front of Gary.. That's his name for me. But -- I like it when you call me it!" and he kissed me again. I of course kissed him back and then frowned. "You KNOW you like it! That's what turned Gary off. He doesn't like to kiss."
"I'm sorry that you were disappointed."
"I was -- at first. But not now. It probably wouldn't have lasted. And he's my best friend! Is that all you wanted to ask me?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, then I'll be going. I'm picking up Gosling in 20 minutes."
"Have fun!"
"I may get him to let me suck him!"
"Will he suck you back."
"No, but it's okay. I like doing him, anyway. He's my best friend!"
"Yeah, so I've heard. Have you ever swallowed?"
"His cum?" Yeah. He thinks it's gross. I like it. He's - "
" -- your best friend -- I know! -- but I didn't mean that. Did you swallow his dick?"
"My god! He's not THAT big. I wish he was!"
"If that's how you feel, you're gonna like Joey!" I thought!
The weekend came quickly. I told Bobby to meet us over at my house. "I don't want to park the Vette there all weekend."
"Then I'll come get you in my dad's car." I didn't own a car yet and Dad told me that I wouldn't need one in Chicago. The public transportation was much better there.
I didn't tell Bobby why I wanted to meet at my house. Truth be told, even our modest home intimidated both of the other guys. I didn't want to further intensify that by seeing the palatial home Bobby lived in ... or even his car.
When I got to Bobby's, even I was not prepared for what I found inside. It was even more beautiful than the outside -- which I'd come to take for granted. The Pepper home was like a city landmark.
When Bobby pulled the door open, I said, "Hiya, Bob-Bob!" His parents were gone for the evening.
He grinned and as usual, blushed a little. We carried all his stuff out to the trunk of Dad's old Chevy. Bobby ran to the passenger side and jumped in. When I got in he leaned over and pulled me into a kiss -- again on the lips.
"You like to kiss, don't you, Bobby?"
He grinned. "So do you!" and he kissed me even deeper.
"You do realize that I have a date this weekend -- right?"
"Can I kiss him?"
"Bob-Bob, you are killin' me here." I laughed.
"I'm kidding! I only like to kiss you!"
"Oh, don't say that, Bobby!"
"Well, I've never kissed anyone else!"
"Maybe I'll let him kiss you. He's been doing it a lot longer than I have!"
When we pulled into the driveway, Gilbert's car was at the curb. "Woo-hoo!" Said Bobby. "Where did the antique come from?"
"Don't make fun of it, please, Bobby." I said. "That's Gilbert's car."
"Will it get us all the way up there?"
"If it doesn't, we'll call it an adventure!"
Just then Gilbert and walked out of my house. "Hi sexy!" I said, throwing caution to the wind. Well, it was pretty safe. "This is my friend Bobby -- Bobby Pepper. Bobby -- Gilbert Blank."
Bobby walked boldly up and first bussed fists with Gilbert, then whispered something to him, while giving him a light hug. Gilbert's eyes got big and he smiled questioningly at me. He later told me the Bobby told him that I had said he got to kiss him later! I was glad I didn't know it at the time!
"Where's Joey?" I said, only slightly worried that maybe he didn't make it. About that time, Joey came bounding out, and hollered back,
"Thanks Mom!"
I felt funny about that. She had told him he could call her than on his first visit, but he declined. I was all at once pleased, happy and ... just a little jealous momentarily. It had just taken me by surprise. Joey ran directly out to me and I think he was about to give me a hug, when he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Bobby.
"You!" They both said, almost angrily.
Oh crap!
"You two know each other?"
"You're the little kid who beat me riding your Podunk little wanna-be BMX piece o' crap!" Said Bobby
"I -- AHEM -- DID beat you!" Said Joey.
"But your bike was a hybrid piece o' shit!"
"But -- it DID beat yours!"
"Aw -- whadda YOU know?" Said Bobby and he shoved the smaller Joey. Gilbert stepped in immediately.
"Hey!" Said Gilbert. As he grabbed Bobby's shoulder. "I was there! He won that bike from you fair and square."
Bobby turned around and complained to me, "He stole my bike!"
"Nuh-uh!" said Joey.
"Guys!" Hollered Gilbert. "That was five years ago!" Then he looked closer at Bobby. "My God! It IS you!"
"That was my favorite bike!" cried Bobby. "It wasn't fair! I never bet to give it up!"
"No -- your dad did." Said Gilbert "I woulda never taken it from you if your dad hadn't been such a smart ass about it. He was so fucking sure that you would win that race. He would have thought nothing about taking Joey's bike. That was what you were racing for. As it was, that was only ONE of your bikes! That little piece of shit bike -- as you referred to it -- was all that Joey had! I helped him build it!"
"He cut me off!"
"And?" Said Gilbert.
"That was -- that was - "
"That's part of the game." Said Gilbert. "I saw you do it to plenty of other guys! But it hurt your pride when the little kid did it to you! Ran you off the track, as I remember it."
"OOO! I remember now!" said Joey. "He hurt more than his pride. You ran your balls into the fork stem. Everyone went -- like -- OOOOO! As I remember you were down a few minutes. I felt bad. Are you okay now dude?"
Bobby reacted to the concern in Joey's voice. "I got over it!" He said with a grudging smile!
"As I remember it," said Gilbert, "You were a pretty brave little kid!"
Then Bobby couldn't suppress a smile.
"What??!!" Asked Joey.
"1 was 12 and I remember -- it seemed cool to me at the time that everyone was so worried about my balls! And the funny thing -- I really didn't hurt them -- at all!"
"What??!!" Said Joey and Gilbert together.
"My balls when I was 12 were no bigger than peanuts anyway! The neck only hit between my legs. Man I milked that for all I could get!"
15-year-old Joey, at 5'-8" tall, walked up to 6'-2" Bobby -- 17-year-old and said, "I don't know whether to kiss you or fucking put your lights out!"
"Damn!" Said Bobby. "I don't think you were this cute ... in your BMX helmet!"
"I doubt you would a noticed anyway -- you were so pissed!"
Bobby giggled. "I was, wasn't I?"
"You prolly didn't know you were gay anyway, five years ago!" Said Gilbert
"Oh, I was sure interested to see any other guy's prick that I could! And when the track doctor examined me -- hee hee -- I closed my eyes and secretly wished he didn't stop!"
"Are you shittin' me? That doc was cute! Remember how he - " Said Joey.
"I remember! Did you see his pant's tented way out?"
"He was a fag!" Said Gilbert. We all looked at him, exasperated. "Hey! I didn't know I was gay then! But I knew that Doc Moto -- as he was called -- was a little too happy to examine some of the boys! And his pants were never tented out before he examined them!"
"I wonder why none of the dad's noticed?"
"They were too worried about their boys." Said Bobby.
"Probably it just never occurred to them!" Said Gilbert. "The only ones who noticed were us OTHER fags!"
"I think I still have that bike -- somewhere in my garage." Said Joey. "I was surprised that you were so angry about it anyway. It was an old - "
"It was an old Mongoose! I mean an O-L-D one! It was my dad's as a kid! It didn't mean anything to him! It was everything to me!"
"Dude!" Said Joey. "You want it back?"
"You really think you can find it?"
"I know exactly where it is, Joey. It's not in your garage! I made a special rack for it -- in my shed remember?" Said Gilbert. "Both bikes are up there!"
"Oh yeah! I forgot!" Said Joey. "That bike that beat you? It was an old bike that Gilbert added a ball buster to -- for me -- then painted it blue - so no one would know it was a ever a pink, girls bike!"
"No shit?" Said Bobby? "I would have died if my dad had taken that kind of interest in anything I did. As soon as he would start to get interested in anything I did, it was all about the sport -- and not about me. He always bought me the latest gadget there was. Boy was HE pissed about me losing that race to you. But it was not because I felt bad about losing! It was because HE was embarrassed!"
"And you still want his old bike?" Said Joey.
"Psheh! Yeah! Silly, I know." Then Bobby looked into Joey's eyes. "Damn! You ain't too bad without your helmet either! So ... have you decided?"
"Decided?" Asked Joey.
"Whether you want to kiss me or fucking put my lights out!"
Joey studied Bobby for a moment, then grinned and said, "Oh definitely ... put your lights out -- as long as it's the lights in your bedroom!"
They laughed and instantly they were best friends.
It was getting dark by the time we got to the big trees. "You guys go over on the other side of the hill, I don't wan t - " started Gilbert.
"Don't worry!" Said Joey. "We don't want hear your sick, perverted sounds anyway!"
We had just gotten our sleeping bags zipped together and were climbing in together -- naked this time - when we heard a cry form the other side of the hill: "Oh - - my - - GOD!"
"Hee hee! I guess Bobby saw Joey's - "
"I guess so!" Said Gilbert.
