I Think I've Flipped. Chapter 13.
(Will's POV)
What a beautiful day.
I could see the sun shinning from behind my new pair of Rayban sunglasses. The weatherman said it was going to be a beautiful day, and he was absolutely right. The sky was clear and blue. There didn't seem to be a single cloud in the area to dampen the wonderful I was experiencing. The only things that were competing for the suns attention were a few birds which flew overhead. I don't think I would have, at this moment in time, complained if they had.
I suddenly felt a gust of wind blow across the right side of my face as it blew my shaggy brown hair up. I adjusted the earphones in my ears to make sure they didn't fall out. I closed my eyes as I let my head drift back onto the head res. I was listening to Wood by Rostam. I feel like I am in a state of Nirvana every time I listen to it with my eyes closed. I swear to God, I imagine being surrounded by cornfields and chirping birds. Hey... like I said, it's such a beautiful morning.
A few minutes later, as the Wood song kept repeating, I heard a car honking nearby. I opened my eyes and saw Tyler parking a few feet away from me. His blonde hair seemed to be held captive behind the baseball cap he was wearing. Damn. He still looked sexy as hell.
He smiled at me and waved. I smiled back. I switched off my iPod, tucked it in my pocket and walked up to Tyler's red truck. When I neared him, Tyler whistled at me and tried to check me out.
"Woo...hoo! Sexyyyy," he drawled on as he raised his eyebrows at me.
" Oh please... Stop!" I said before bursting into a fit of laughter. I opened the door to his truck and slid in the passenger seat.
"Hey," I said as I sat down. No sooner had I closed the door, Tyler leaned in and kissed me on the lips.
"Hey gorgeous," Tyler said with a blush after pulling away.
"Hi," I said before blushing into my own shade of red. I looked at him with an embarrassed smile. He was wearing a slightly tight graphic tee, some really nice jeans, and a pair of black sneakers. Not really fancy for a date, but we did agree to keep this date as casual as possible.
"Listen.... I'm sorry to have to pick you up here..." Tyler trailed off looking a bit worried.
"It's fine," I replied with a smile.
"It's just that.... I can't really pick you up at your house or nearby because people may see and stuff... I'm sorry it had to be on the other side of town," Tyler said as he tried to explain.
"It's fine Tyler," I said as I reached out and grabbed his hand. He looked as if he was anxious about something.
"Are you sure you're not angry?" He asked me as he wrinkled his eyebrows in confusion.
"Positive," I replied as I leaned in and kissed him on the lips. I gently slipped in my tongue and ran my right hand along his thighs. I could hear him moan while doing so. When I pulled back, he was blushing really badly.
"You liked that huh?" I said with a sly smile.
"Ye... yes," Tyler stammered.
"Yeah, I can tell!" I said as I pointed down at his crotch.
"Will you please stop turning me on? You're making this really hard on me!" Tyler replied rather loudly.
"I can see that," I replied while laughing and staring at his crotch.
"S... Stopp!" Tyler shouted in embarrassment as he covered his lap with his hands. I was still laughing at him. When Tyler's all flustered, he's adorable.
"Oh please Tye, it's not like I've never seen it before," I explained as I brought up what happened last night at Tyler's house. I admit, I was pretty shocked at seeing him in his birthday suit, but still... his cock was fucking amazing!
"Oh my god, we are leaving!" Tyler shouted at me as he started his truck, laughing the whole time.
"Yeah, I think we should," I said with a small chuckle as I put on my seatbelt and rested my back against the seat.
"I'm really excited about our first date. The fact that I'll be able to talk and hold you without worrying about people from school is really cool," Tyler said as we drove off out of the town.
"Well, I knew you were afraid of people finding about us and that you wanted to watch Captain America really badly. I thought the only way to do that was to watch in a cinema without the possibility of running into people we know," I said.
"Still, The idea of watching it over in the next town is pretty ingenious!" Tyler said as he smiled at me.
I blushed again. "No, it's not... And in case you haven't noticed, I don't deal with compliments very well," I replied.
Tyler just reached out and grabbed my hand momentarily before continuing to drive.
The next town, Horne was about an hour drive from Ridgemont. I figured that it would be the perfect place where we could try and act like we were actually on a date. Ridgemont wouldn't allow that. Even if we watched at the cinema at the other end of town, there still would be a high of chance of running into people we know from school. And knowing how Tyler feels about us in public, that wouldn't really be a fun date...
God, here's to hoping everything turn out alright.
We were in the mall already and we got just in the nick of time to watch the 1:15pm showing of Captain America. Parking was a killer, with Tyler managing to blow his top a few times. I had to reel the beast in a few times.
"Alright... We've got our tickets. What say we go inside the theater?" I asked Tyler as we walked away from the ticket booth.
"Wait. I need to use the bathroom really quick!" he said to me.
"Well, hurry silly, I don't want to miss the trailers which is in about 3 minutes," I added as I looked at my watch.
"Okay! Okay! Sheesh!" Tyler said as he bolted towards the nearest bathroom.
I gave a small chuckle as I watched him walk away. I ate a few bits of popcorn as I walked around a bit. I was comparing Horne's mall to Ridgemont's. They both seemed similar. Horne had some renovations done to their mall. I strolled even further taking in the new changes.
The cinema, for one, looked really cool. It had neon lights and retro movie posters on the ceilings and walls. It even had...
Huh? Wait...
What is that sound? .... Is that a child... crying?
I stopped chewing my popcorn and stared at the small, scrawny boy a few feet away from me. He was sitting down beside a potted plant with his hands hugging his knees. I couldn't tell if he was actually crying or- oh there... yep, that certainly was a tear. I looked around to see if anyone else noticed him. Apparently not, as people just kept walking by barely giving him a second look.
The boy was hugging his knees tightly as tears fell down his face. I walked over to where he was sitting. I couldn't just stand there and ignore him. I'm guessing the boy seemed to be about 6 or 7 years old. He had light brown hair, which fell across his forehead hiding the fact that he was crying. He was wearing a green jacket, jeans, and some really worn sneakers. Other than that, he looked like any other kid his age...
"Hi," I said.
I bent down so that we were pretty much at eye level. The boy's eyes looked at me with surprise and a bit of a fear. I could see his eyes were red from all the crying. I also noticed the sleeves of his jacket were wet. He probably was wiping his tears on them.
"Are you alright?" I asked him.
He stared at me with his deep green eyes before replying, "My mom said to never talk to strangers." I stared at him in surprise.
"Your mom is right. Hi, my name is Will," I said as I outstretched my right hand. I flashed him my friendliest smile trying to gain his trust.
The boy stared at me for a few moments, alternating gazes from my hand to my face before he reached out and weakly shook my hand.
"I'm... Chr... Chris."
"Well Chris," I replied as I sat down beside him. He seemed genuinely surprised when I did... which was a good thing. "Want some popcorn?" I asked him as I offered my big large bag of buttered popcorn.
Chris stared at the bag for a long time. I think he was either quietly debating whether or not he should get food from a complete stranger... or whether or not it was laced with any poison.
So, I chose the latter.
"It's perfectly safe. There's nothing wrong with it," I added with a smile.
Chris looked up to me before giving me a shy smile. He then tentatively reached into the bag with his left hand and grabbed a handful of popcorn, before saying, "Tha... Thanks," and then chowed them down quickly.
"So Chris... why are you here all alone crying?" I asked afterwards.
As soon as I asked the question, Chris immediately lowered his head and began tearing up again. I could hear him sniffing quietly.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, genuinely concerned. I'm sorry, but my heart breaks every time I see a kid cry. I can't just sit by and not do anything. My conscience won't be able to handle it.
"It's just... Today is my mom's birthday... a... and I bought her a gi... gift. But then, some stupid ki... kids from my school saw me and smashed it on the... ground," Chris said in between sobs.
Bullies at school huh? I know what that feels like.
"And now, I have no more... money to buy her another one!" Chris sobbed as he hugged his knees.
"What did you buy her?" I asked as him as I stretched my legs out.
"Ther... There was a pretty vase that... that she wanted," Chris quietly said before breaking down into a few more sobs.
I frowned at watching this little boy cry. If truth be told, he reminded me of myself back when I was small. I knew what it felt like being bullied and tormented growing up, so I understand the pain Chris was going through.
"Hey, it's going to be alright," I said as I reached out to him and rubbed his back in efforts to give him some relief. Chris didn't jerk or move away or anything when I placed my palms against his back. He welcomed my comfort with open arms. I continued rubbing Chris' back until his sobs finally died down.
"Tha... Thanks mister," Chris quietly said as he looked up to me, his eyes still a bit red from all the crying he's been doing.
"My name is Will besides mister makes me seem so old," I scoffed in mock annoyance. That little remark caused Chris to slightly smile, which was a good sign.
"Sorry mister... I mean Will," Chris said, slightly embarrassed as he blushed a few shades of red.
I smiled, knowing the ice has been broken between us. "So, today is your mother's birthday?" I asked him.
"Yes! She's turning 40 today!" Chris said excitedly as he held up his hands trying to show me. His left hand held four fingers up while his right hand made a big zero sign... Cute!
"There you are!"
I turned my attention from Chris towards the direction of the voice. I stared above me and found Tyler crossing his arms as he glared at me.
"Oh... Hi... Tyler!" I said in surprise.
"I've been looking for you! Come on, we're going to be late!" Tyler said forcefully. His gaze moved from mine to Chris and when he saw the little, scrawny boy he said, "Oh... uhh... hello..." He then turned to me and asked, "Will, do you know this little boy?"
I was about to answer him when Chris interrupted me and said, "I'm not little!" before pouting at Tyler. The boy crossed his arms as well, clearly not amused by Tyler's remark about his height.
I watched Tyler's reaction. He raised one of his eyebrows in surprise as he looked at me for an explanation. I just gave him one of my famous innocent smiles. This made him roll his eyes in annoyance
"Let's go Will! The movie is about to start!" Tyler ordered as he jerked his head towards the direction of the cinema.
"Oh! Are you guys watching a movie?" Chris asked loudly.
Tyler gave him a look and answered, "Yes we are. And if we don't hurry, we're going to be late." He then looked at me with a deadly glare.
"What movie are you watching?" Chris asked again.
I could see Tyler's face and let me tell you, he was ready to shout at the poor kid. I could tell he was really close too that I had to intervene and answer myself.
"We're watching Captain America," I hastily replied as I watched Tyler who snapped his head at me. Good save Will.
"Ooooh! I watched that yesterday!" said Chris as he raised his hand in acknowledgment. "It was so good! All the explosions like BOOM!" Chris exclaimed as he made exploding gestures with his hands. It was really amusing. I found myself laughing at his exaggerated description.
"Oh that's nice," Tyler interjected with dryness. By now, he was seething. "Can we go watch it now?" he asked me again.
I glanced back at Chris and found him frowning. He was fidgety and quiet. I also caught him stealing glances between the floor and me. Does this mean that he doesn't want me to leave? Oh man...
I looked back at Tyler and said, "You go on ahead. I'll follow you in the movie. I'll stay with Chris for awhile."
Both me gave me a shocked expression. Chris' eyes went big while Tyler's jaw just dropped.
"What?!" Tyler exclaimed in annoyance. "Why?!" Tyler asked as he narrowed his eyes at me.
"Chris and I have to buy his mother a present for her birthday, don't we Chris?" I asked the boy as he continued to look at me with surprise.
"Bu... But I told you, I don't have anymore money!" Chris said, embarrassed as he rubbed his eyes dry. He looked between Tyler and me. I think he was a bit scared as to what the blonde, football player would do.
"Don't worry, I'll pay for it." Oh wow, I'm feeling a little generous today. "How much was that vase?"
"$40," Chris answered.
Shit. That's a pretty expensive vase.
"Okay... Accompany me to the store and we'll buy it," I said as I stood up.
Chris stood up excitedly and beamed. "Thanks mi... I mean Will," he said with a huge smile at his face. I smiled back at him.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me."
I turned my attention back to Tyler who had an incredulous look on his face. He's pissed at me... and for a good reason too.
"Watch your language! We have a 6 year old with us," I said as I covered Chris' ears from hearing anymore. Not that it helped, Tyler already said the F bomb.
"Please tell me you're joking!" Tyler pleaded with annoyance.
"Tyler... I told you, I'll meet you inside in a little while. I'll only be gone for around 15 or 20 minutes. You go on ahead," I encouraged him. I didn't want to be the reason why he was going able miss Captain America. Besides, we already paid for the tickets and it would be a waste not to use them.
Tyler looked between Chris and me. At this point, I'm not sure what he's thinking about. I just hope he isn't too mad at me.
Chris and I watched Tyler think this over until he finally shrugged his shoulders and said, "There's no way I'm watching the movie without you. I'll go with you and buy this vase of his THEN we can go inside the theater together."
I smiled at Tyler. Honestly, I didn't expect this at all from him. It was a pleasant surprise.
"Stop smirking," Tyler threatened me with his finger before bending down at Chris' eye level. I felt Chris shuffle a few inches away from Tyler. Pretty sure the kid is intimidated by him. Hell, I would too at his age!
"So, you're name is Chris eh? Hi, my name is Tyler. But feel free to call me Tye," He added as he stretched his right hand for a handshake.
Chris looked at Tyler's hand before giving it a shy handshake. "Ni... nice to meet you," the boy responded.
Tyler smiled as he stood up straight and turned towards me. "So when did you meet this one?" he whispered in my ear.
"Just today," I whispered.
"What?" Tyler asked me.
"I just saw him crying over there, so I kinda went over and asked him what was wrong," I whispered back.
"Really? I thought you knew him beforehand."
"No, I don't," I said.
"And you're offering to buy him a $40.00 vase? Are you for real?" he whispered a little too hotly.
"Yes. And if that bothers you, you don't have to split paying for it with me," I said with annoyance.
"Uhhh..."
That soft sound snapped Tyler and I from bickering from one another. Both of us stared at Chris who was biting one of his fingernails from his right hand. He looked like he wanted to say something.
"Yes Chris?" I asked him.
The boy looked at us with his big, doe eyes and started to ask, "Are you guys..." before trailing off and looking away with a blush.
"Are we guys what?" Tyler repeated as he cocked his head to one side in confusion.
"... you know..." Chris mumbled.
"You know what?" I said.
"... together?" Chris asked finally before looking down at his feet in embarrassment.
Tyler and I looked at each other in confusion, thinking if the other person knew what Chris was talking about. But when we got a look of each other's faces, both of us were pretty clueless. We continued staring at each other lost in translation, until in a split second and almost simultaneously, the light bulbs in both our head suddenly lit up.
"Ohhhh," we both murmured out loud. We both turned our attention to Chris who was looking at us with a big question mark on his face.
And, as fate would have it, both of us answered his question at the same time:
"Yes," slipped out of my mouth.
"No," Tyler responded.
As soon as we heard each other's answer, we looked at each other.
"Huh?" Chris asked in confusion.
Tyler and I turned our attention back to Chris and answered at the same time, once again:
"No," I answered.
"Yes," Tyler said.
Chris exchanged glances between Tyler and me. The boy was looking more and more confused. I glared at Tyler. Sure enough, Tyler was glaring at me too.
"So are you guys boyfriends or not?" Chris asked as he scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.
"Er..." I trailed, not really sure how to respond to his question. This whole situation is pretty awkward. I mean, how are you supposed to answer that question from a random stranger, even if he was just a boy?! And besides, Tyler isn't even out yet.
"We're not boyfriends Chris," Tyler responded. Oh thank god. He came to my rescue! "Today is actually Will and I's first date. We agreed to take things slow and well, we were hoping today would be a great day because I really like this guy a lot," Tyler continued before snaking his arm around mine and grabbing my hand.
I blushed at this really sweet gesture from Tyler. I was sure that he wouldn't tell Chris the truth seeing as he is so afraid of losing his image. I didn't know what exactly changed that he admitted to this little boy that we were sort of together. Was it because we were in another town? Or could it be because he trusts Chris? ... I really don't know... but I'm not complaining.
I gripped his hand tightly as both if us looked at Chris to see what his reaction would be. He looked at us for quite awhile before bursting into a smile and said, "Good. Cause I like you two!" He then rushed to both of us and gave us a very tight hug.
"Uhhh..." Tyler murmured in discomfort and embarrassment as Chris hugged both of us. His hands slowly made its way towards the kid's head and patted him softly. He gave me a weird look and I chuckled.
"So uhh... Chris," Tyler said, "where is this store that you bought this vase from?"
Chris disengaged himself from both of us and answered, "Over here! Let me show you!"
And with that, he grabbed our hands and dragged us behind him. Tyler and I looked at each other and laughed as we allowed ourselves to be carted off by this 7 year old. A few people stared at us and gave us questionable glances. Ah whatever... We don't live around here so I could care less what you guys think!
"It's just around the corner over there!" Chris shouted excitedly as we passed the fast food joint.
Throughout our encounter with this kid, I couldn't get this one thought out of my mind. And it was then that I decided to voice it out. "Chris... aren't you a little too young to be in the mall alone?"
Chris stopped suddenly and turned around..... "Oh. My babysitter brought me here, but she met up with her boyfriend or something. She usually leaves me for a while then I just meet her by the fountain at around 3." He then pointed at a clock near the fountain wall. "Now let's go!" Chris said before grabbing both my and Tyler's hands and dragging his with him.
While we were being pulled by Chris, Tyler leaned in towards my ear and whispered, "Okay... This babysitter of his... needs to be reported."
"What are you having?" I asked Tyler as we stared at the menus.
We're in some fancy shmancy Italian restaurant a few minutes drive from the mall. Tyler wanted our date to be sort of fancy and proper that he decided that eating in a normal fast food joint wouldn't be that romantic or special. Frankly, I would be perfectly happy eating in somewhere like Denny's or Panda Express but... I've got to give props to Tyler for trying.
"Honestly," Tyler said as he peeked at me from behind his menu. "I'm not really quite sure... I've only eaten here once before with my family so I don't know what else is good to eat.
"What did you get here before?" I asked him.
"Some Pepperoni pizza that tasted different..." he said as I watched him read his menu. He caught me looking at him. "What?" he asked.
"So the food wasn't good?" I asked him somewhat confused. Okay... if he didn't like the food the first time he ate here, why on earth would he suggest this place for our date?
"I never said that. I just said it was different. The only other pizza I had before this was Papa John's or something and their dough and flavors were so different from the ones here. I don't know... It just feels a lot more authentic here," Tyler explained as he scratched his head trying to explain what he meant.
"Ahh... okay, I get it," I replied. Hmm... okay, that pretty much was a lie. I really didn't understand what Tye was saying at that point. And if I questioned him even further, I would never hear the end of it.
"So, what can I get you gentlemen this evening?" Our waiter asked us.
"Umm... I think I'll just have the spaghetti with meatballs," Tyler said as he handed our waiter his menu.
"Excellent choice sir," the waiter said as he began scribbling in his little notepad. "And for you sir?" he asked as he turned to me.
I looked down at the menu. Wait a minute... spaghetti and meatballs is the cheapest entrŽe on the menu. I hoped Tyler didn't choose that because it was the cheapest one. I thought to myself as a frown crossed my face.
"Sir?" the waiter repeated.
"I will have the beef lasagna. On top of that, we'd like to order your best selling pizza as well as some garlic mashed potatoes on the side," I said to the waiter as I gave him our menus. From the corner of my eye, I can see Tyler looking at me with his mouth wide open.
"Excellent choice sir!" he said as he scribbled down my order in his notepad. "Okay then, I'll be back in a while with your complimentary bread rolls," he added before walking away towards the kitchen.
"Will," Tyler softly said once the waiter disappeared. "You didn't have to do that... I was fine with the spaghetti... Besides, it's too expensive..."
"Don't worry, I'm going to pay," I said. "You've done so much for me already today. It's the least I can do."
"You sure?" Tyler asked me once again.
"Of course," I said... but on the inside, I felt a little intimidated. I looked around the restaurant and suddenly felt so uneasy. The restaurant was well decked out! Truth be told, I've never been in a place this fancy or expensive. My family is usually used to eating in regular fast food joints so this a little new to me.
Tyler must have sensed something was off because he asked me, "Will... Is anything wrong?"
"Huh?" I replied back, as I snapped out of this little daze I was in. "What did you say?" I asked back.
"I asked you if everything was alright," Tyler replied as he reached out and grabbed my hand.
"Oh... yeah... I'm fine," I said, slightly surprised how affectionate Tyler is being on our date. He's like a totally different person away from Ridgemont. It's nice seeing him this open and brave like this. Shit,.. I'm getting all sentimental now.
"You sure?" Tyler asked me as he squeezed my hand tightly. Oh that feet great feeling our skin touching.
"Yeah... Just thinking," I answered.
"Thinking? That's almost never a good sign. What about?" he asked me flashing me his blue orbs of concern.
"I was just... thinking how nice and amazing you were when you protected Chris from those bullies he had in school," I said.
"Oh!" Tyler remarked. I could see him blush a few shades of red. "Well, he's just a kid so, I felt like I needed to protect him. I really don't like it when the strong pick on the weak."
I just stared and grinned at him for a couple of minutes.
"What?" Tyler asked once he noticed the big smile I had on my face. Frankly, he looked just a little bit annoyed.
"You like him, don't you?" I asked, still grinning.
Tyler scoffed at me. "Who? Chris? The little brat? No way!" He then rolled his eyes at me.
"Whatever Tyler. You like him, I can tell! You were nice to him and I could see a smile forming on your face whenever you and him were talking," I said, laughing at him. Tyler glared at me like I was some sort of demon spawn. Shit. I think I laughed even harder at that.
"Fine!" Tyler snorted, "I like the little kid okay!" He pouted at me before continuing, "I admit, he's pretty charming that one. I don't know, it's just... I saw him as the little brother I never had... I just couldn't allow him to be bullied around by taller boys his age. I should know... I was one of those taller boys myself a couple years back."
"Aww Tyler," I said as I patted his hand. "Well for what it's worth, I thought what you did for Chris was really nice... and hot."
Tyler raised his eyebrow at me over that last bit. "Oh really?" he asked me for clarifications.
"Yeah. I mean... I thought you wouldn't do that since I kind of thought you didn't like him. He did spoil the ending to Captain America after all and we never did end up watching it," I pointed out.
"Oh yeah... I forgot about that part," Tyler said.
By that time, the waiter came by and dropped our complimentary bread at our table. Once he gave us our dips and stuff, he let us go back to our conversations.
"So, what are we doing afterwards?" I asked Tyler as I took a bite out of the bread. Oh shit. This is so good. And I'm not even sure what the hell I'm eating. I looked down at these dips and frankly, I couldn't tell what they were. I wasn't really paying any attention to what the waiter was saying a while ago about them... I just know that they taste really, really good!
"Well... it's going to be a surprise!" Tyler said with a smile.
"Oh really?" I asked him mischievously as I grabbed a piece of the bread and dipped it into another sauce.
"Yup. You'll just have to wait and see," Tyler responded with a smile, before turning all serious again.
"Hey, anything wrong?" I asked him as I swallowed a bite of the bread.
"Well... uhh... thinking of Chris has gotten me thinking about his problem and it's bugging me out," Tyler said.
"The bullies again?"
"No... His babysitter. I swear Will, she needs to be reported for leaving a 7 year old in a mall."
(Tyler's POV)
Okay, today is the day! I'm finally going to take Will on our first date and I'm super nervous! I really want to make sure everything is going to go according to plan. I don't want to have my first date with a guy I am head over heels in love with to be disastrous. I swear to god, if that happens, I'm going to be forever scarred for life.
I looked myself at the mirror. Is my outfit alright? I was staring at my reflection. I had just a stupid t-shirt, some jeans, and sneakers... Will wanted our date to be as casual as possible. He said he didn't want to set-up really high expectations with the date... Just wanted for us to go along with the flow... Aww, fuck it. I'm not changing anymore.
I ran and grabbed a cap, my car keys, and my phone from my desk and headed outside into the hallway. I could hear my mom cooking lunch downstairs... and I can actually smell it too.
I galloped down to the kitchen and inhaled whatever it is my mom was cooking for lunch.
"Mmm... Smells good ma! What are you cooking?" I said as I peered from the doorway.
My mother turned around to face me. Two things stood out from her. One, she was wearing a really neon orange apron that is making my eyes hurt. Two, she's holding her favorite wooden spoon in her right hand.
"I'm making some Chili. Are you sure you don't want to stay for lunch?" she asked me as she offered a taste of her Chili.
"No thanks ma. I need to run already anyways," I said to her as I declined her offer to taste. Uhh... no thanks ma. I don't want Will to smell chili when we kiss later. Fuck no.
"Where are you going anyway?" my mother asked me as she turned around and continued messing around with her chili.
"I told you... I'm meeting Jason and the guys to play some video games and some football. Then, I'm meeting Will to do finish some home work we have in Art Studies," I said. Lie. Total bullshit lie.
"Okay... Are you going to be home for dinner?" she asked me as she started preparing something in the oven... Is that chicken or turkey in there?
"Nah... Will and I have a lot of stuff to do for school so maybe not," I relied as I just told my mother a big lie.
"Well okay, have fun dear!" my mother called out as her back was still turned to me.
"Bye!" I said as I left my mother in the kitchen to pick up Will. As soon as I stepped into the hallway, I could hear our grandfather clock in the living room chiming... Or is that technically bonging?
I peered into the living room and stared at the clock. "Shit. I'm going to be late!" I said. The time was already 11:00 in the morning. I was supposed to pick Will across town at around 11:30am. It's going to take me at least 20 minutes to get there... if it isn't traffic. But since it's the weekend, it might probably be. Fuck.
Okay... There's a perfectly good explanation as to why I'm picking Will up across town and not from his house. Well... you see, the street we live on is highly infested with people from Ridgemont High from different levels. Many of them like to go out, stroll, and skateboard down the street. The last thing I need is to have someone seeing Will getting in my car and spreading the word about it on the gossip blog. I'm sorry but I don't want my life to be ruined by rumors and photos about me online. This isn't Gossip Girl, you know.
Anyways, so... yeah... across town is the safest way of picking Will up for our date. Barely anyone from school goes there so it's the most sensible choice. Of course I still feel like coward though. It's a good thing Will is really understanding about our situation. Even though he can be a little childish sometimes, he manages to keep me grounded and sane part of the time. It's like we have this sort of special connection you know? Ayy... listen to me rambling... I really should pick him up.
Once outside, I wore my cap backwards and quickly got in my car, turned on the engine. As soon as that happened, I saw a few sophomore girls walking down the street. See? What did I tell you? This street is like a walking mine field. I suddenly look around and here comes a skateboarder!
Okay, Tye, you need to start driving! I put my truck into drive and drove off. Once my truck was riding pretty smoothly, I grabbed my iPod from my pocket and played it on speakers. I started bobbing my head along to the beat of Wetsuit by The Vaccines. It's a good way to start of the day. Semi-chillax vibe.
As I drove through town, I thought of what happened in my room early this morning. Will slept in my room last night. We cuddled facing each other after our little spat last night. I can't tell you how perfect and peaceful tha-
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!" I hollered from my window. "Can't you see the pedestrian light is on red? Do you want to fucking die?!" I shouted in anger and frustration. Geez... People these days!
Wait... where was I? Oh yeah.
Will woke up at around 12am so he could go back to his house before his parents returned from their date and his brothers from their gig.
I hated that.
Sigh. I just want to hold Will in my arms forever. I don't know... He just feels right in my arms. Sigh. So yeah... he had to walk back across to his house. I was watching him from my front porch and before he stepped inside their house, he turned around and gave me flying kiss. It was insanely cheesy, but it still managed to give me butterflies in my stomach.
I think... I'm... falling in love with Will... I'm still not sure though... This entire situation of dating a boy is complicated; I'm having a hard time dealing with my emotions...
Speaking of... there's Will already.
He's sitting down on a wooden bench beside the bus terminal. He was wearing a red hoodie and some dark jeans. He has his eyes closed and he was listening to his earphones... I wonder what he's thinking of... Looking at him... He has a smile on his face... Cute.
I honked my car horn to get his attention. He seemed startled at first and looked around him. When he saw me, he gave me the most dazzling smile...
Shit. I think I am falling in love with him.
"I can't believe that dumb looking vase is fucking $40.00."
"Tyler!"
"Whaaaat?" I asked out loud. I was staring at the vase Chris supposedly got his mom for her birthday and good lord, was it distasteful. It was far from elegant. It had really weird curves and it was actually color red! Red I tell you!
"YOUR LANGUAGE! We have a kid nearby! Besides, this is what Chris got his mom. We should at least respect what he chooses," Will said to me as he sort of glared at me for being 'insensitive'.
"Hey, I'm paying half of it so I pretty much get to voice my opinions out loud the hell I fucking want," I said sternly, emphasizing my point.
"Fine, just watch the language okay! Chris might hear you," Will hissed.
Honestly, I doubt it. He's like a couple of feet away from Will and me, waiting for his present to be giftwrapped. Unless he has bionic ears, he wouldn't be able to hear me curse.
"You know... you didn't have to do this you know," Will whispered to me while staring at the little kid.
"Heyyyy," I said, causing Will to look at me. "It's fine. I wouldn't have come and bought it if I didn't want to. Besides, how could I say no tp you?" I asked Will, causing him to blush. I smiled as I grabbed his hand and held it tightly.
"Okay! All done!"
I quickly let go of Will's hand and looked down. Chris was holding his present smiling at both of us.
"Thanks again Will and Tye!" he said happily.
"It's no problem Chris," Will said as he reached out and ruffled Chris' hair. Chris laughed a little, showing off his really cute dimples... Okay, can I please adopt this kid? He's growing on me! I've been wanting to have a brother for the longest time and Chris certainly fills in that void oh so perfectly.
"Stooppp!" Chris whined as he shooed Will's hand away from his hair.
When their little banter came to an end, I asked them, "Hey... are you guys hungry? I could go for some burgers over at the food court. What do you say, Will... you hungry?"
"YES!" Chris said excitedly.
"Let's go then," I laughed as I let Chris lead the way.
"What about the movie?" Will asked, confused.
I stopped for a second and looked at him. "Screw the movie. I'd rather spend it with you," I said with a smile. Will looked a bit surprised before giving me huge smile. God, that smile of his is so sexy.
"Hey, come on!!" Chris yelled as he grabbed my and Will's hands together and dragging us along.
He was walking in front of Will and me, bouncing happily at every step or so. So fucking adorable! I looked over at Will and found him giving me a huge smile. Shit. I think I just felt my knees go wobbly for a second there. I couldn't ask for a better boy to have a first date with!
Okay, even if the date didn't go technically as planned and I didn't get to watch Captain America, I was still having a darn good time. And with two boys keeping me entertained and smitten, I couldn't find any reason to complain.
The food court was on the other side of the mall. It wasn't a very good one though. It's a small place, neatly tucked in one corner of the mall. There weren't a lot of really good fast food joints there other than Panda Express and McDonalds. We could have gone to Dennys instead outside near the parking lot, but that would take a while and besides... I'm not really sure if Chris could leave the shopping mall.
When we reached the food court, I asked Chris to find us a place to seat while we order. He looked really, really happy!
"So what do you want Chris?" Will asked him.
"Uhhh..." Chris trailed off, looking a bit flustered. I raised my eyebrows in response.
"What's wrong Chris?" I asked him.
Chris looked at me in the eyes before dropping his gaze down to the floor and mumbled something.
"What? I can't hear you," I said as Will and I bent down to get a better listen of whatever it is he was going to say.
"Well uh... I'm a bit... shy. You guys already bought my mom's present so..." Chris mumbled, looking all so embarrassed.
Will and I looked at each other. Oh. So this was it? I thought he had bigger problems. Thank god it was only this.
"Hey look at me," I told Chris. He slowly looked up to me. We locked eyes as I said, "Don't worry about it okay? You've had a rough day and Will and I are really happy that you're accompanying us on our first date. We don't mind buying you that vase." Okay, I am now overlooking the fact that it is hideous. "And we don't mind buying you something to eat if you're hungry."
"You sure?" Chris asked me, with questioning eyes.
"Promise. Cross my heart," I said as I acted out the gestures.
Chris gave me a huge grin before replying, "Okay. I want a Happy Meal!"
Will laughed. "I figured out as much," he said as he let go of Chris to find us a good table. Once Chris was walking towards the other direction, Will and I walked off towards McDonalds.
"Someone is feeling generous today," Will remarked as we fell in line over at McDonalds.
"What are you talking about?" I snorted.
"Nothing, nothing," Will replied.
I was about to respond to his cryptic message when the cashier asked for my order. I looked up front and stared at this smiling, dorky looking teenage girl waiting for me and Will to order. She looked like Jess from that tv show, New Girl, but she had these really bright yellow eyeglasses.
"Oh uhh... what do you want Will?" I asked as I faced the brunette.
"I think I'll just get a cheeseburger," Will replied as he stared at the lighted menu on top.
"Okay," I responded as I turned my attention back to the cashier girl. "We'll have a cheeseburger meal and two happy meals with the regular burgers," I told the girl.
"Sure thing!" the girl replied enthusiastically as I watched her punch in our orders. "And your drinks?"
"Just make them all OJs," I replied.
"No problem," the girl said as she started punching in some more keys.
"Wait, two happy meals?" Will asked as he looked at me confused.
"Yeah. One for Chris and the other is for me," I said as I handed the girl $20.00 for the entire thing. Will looked at me skeptically. I know that face very well. He has something on his mind, but he's not sure how to exactly say it... or whether or not he should say it in the first place.
"What is it now?" I asked.
Will looked at me strangely for quite a while before he responded, "Nothing... nothing." Again, with the nothing! "Really Tyler, it's nothing," Will said as he patted me on the shoulder. When he looked away, I swear to god I could see him chuckling. I rolled my eyes.
Once we got our orders, we made our way to the dining area looking for any sign of Chris. But for some reason, we couldn't find him in any of the tables.
"Will, do you see him anywhere?" I asked Will as I looked around me searching for Chris.
"Isn't that him over there?" Will said as he pointed at something outside. I followed the direction of his finger and saw Chris clutching his gift wrapped vase with some boys around his age. He was talking to four boys taller than him.
Hmm... I watched Chris from behind the glass doors. For some reason, I have this very unsettling feeling that these aren't Chris' friends. And when that tall black haired kid pushed Chris down to the ground, I knew they weren't.
"What the hell!?" Will shouted angrily.
"Come on," I snarled as I made my way to outside and through the glass doors. I angrily pushed it open to confront these bullies.
"What the FUCK do you think you're doing?!" I shouted at the boys. I didn't even bother watching my language. When you get me riled up, it's pretty difficult to tame me down.
"Tyler your langu-"
"Not now Will! Not now!"
I turned my attention shortly to Chris who was being helped by Will into standing up. Chris was clutching to his present like it was the most precious thing in the entire world. I glared back at the group of boys. These must be the same dipshits that broke Chris' present earlier today.
"Who are you?" the tallest boy asked. I looked at him. He was much taller than Chris, that's for sure... and I'm presuming he's a bit older as well. He has black hair and some meat in his bones. I assumed he was their leader since everyone else was behind him and slightly shorter. What they all had in common though was that they all had smug grins on their faces as if they're not in trouble. Oh you have no idea what you're getting into little boy.
"Hey Chrissy, who's this dumbass?" the taller boy mocked Chris as he pointed at me. His other cronies suddenly laughed at his remark like it was the funniest piece of shit they have ever heard in their entire life...
I looked at Chris whose gaze was transfixed on the ground cement. I felt my anger reaching the breaking point. All it takes if one more-
"Are they fags like you?" the boy asked with laughter.
Bingo. There you go.
"Listen to me you little pricks," I snarled as I smashed my OJ down to the ground, causing its contents to spill in every direction. The boys gasped in surprise and jumped a little from the sudden outburst. "My name is Tye and I'm Chris' older brother from college. I came here to pick up Chris who bought our mother's present only to find him crying about how some kids broke our gift, which by the way was really expensive. I'll take a guess and say that you're the dumb fucks who did that. It's one thing to destroy our gift, but to bully my younger brother as well? That is unforgiveable!" I shouted as I cracked my fists as I approached these little punks.
As I walked up to them, they all jumped backwards, including their tall leader. Guess they aren't so tough after all... Leave it to one hot-tempered football player to make a statement.
"Wa... wait! We're sorry! We won't do it again," their leader pleaded as he raised his arms in surrender.
"You need to apologize to my younger brother," I threatened them as I pointed at the visibly shaken kid to my left.
"Chris! We're sorry!" they all shouted at different times. Ha. These kids were scared shitless! Fuck, that's funny.
"You better leave him alone from now on, okay? The next time I hear that any of you bully him again, you're going to end up like that juice I just threw on the floor. Got it?" I said vehemently. My face held a snarl, but on the inside, I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
"Ye.. Yes!" they all shouted before running off away from us. Mission accomplished.
Once they were all away from eyesight, I turned to my left and saw Chris crying. Will was gripping his shoulder in support.
"Hey," I said as I walked towards them. "Are you okay?" I asked Chris as I knelt down on the ground so I can be eye level with him.
"I'm fine," Chris replied, in between sobs.
"Chris, were those boys the same kids who broke your vase this morning?" Will asked once Chris finally calmed down a bit.
"Ye... yeah," the boy replied meekly.
"Why'd you let push you?" I asked.
"I... I don't know... They just like bullying me around. They're in the 5th grade and they usually pick on me in school. One time, a small boy fought back and he was beaten up so bad!" Chris said as he hugged his present even tighter. "I... I'm scared that they'll beat me up too!"
I was about to respond to Chris when Will bent down beside him and gently said, "Chris, listen to me." He turned Chris' head so that he was facing him. "You can't let other people treat you that way. Trust me, I've been there and I know just what you're going through." Ouch. Was he referring to me? "You just got be strong. Ignore their taunts and their teasing. You need to show them that they can't break you down. Once they realize that, they'll leave you alone."
I stared at Will while he was giving Chris a much needed pep talk... God... He's so beautiful. I looked at him as he hugged Chris and ruffled his hair. Sure, Will can be a little overdramatic at times, but his heart is always in the right place. In the end, I know he's doing the right thing. I don't know why, but he just makes me feel happy and content... I've never felt anything like this before... not with a girl, and certainly not with a boy.
"Isn't that right Tyler?" Will asked as he stood up.
I snapped out of my spacing out and stared at Will who was looking at me with a smile.
"I'm sorry... What was that?" I asked, pretty much dumbfounded.
Will looked at me with a raised eyebrow and said, "I was asking you if you also think that Chris should be brave and stand his ground." He then looked down at Chris. I followed his gaze and found Chris staring at me with confused eyes.
"Uhh... of course!" I replied enthusiastically as I gave Chris my warmest smile.
Chris looked at Will and back at me before gently setting down his present on the floor and gave me a really tight hug. It took me a few moments to react to his arms around me. I looked up at Will, slightly shocked and embarrassed. He had a warm smile egging me to hug the little boy back. I closed my arms around Chris and then lifted him up to the air. He laughed and chuckled as he flew up in the air for a few seconds.
As soon as I placed him back on the ground, he enveloped his arms around Will who returned his hug with a fierce one of his own. When they were done, Will looked between Chris and me and said, "Now, what do you say we eat your Happy Meals?"
"YES!!" Chris said excitedly, jumping up and down.
I laughed. "Yeah, we still need to catch another screening of Captain America," I replied.
"Oh that movie was awesome!" Chris said as he face me.
"You told us that already!" I replied back with a laugh.
"Yeah! All the explosions and stuff! And the way Captain America fought all those bad guys like POW! HIYAAH!" Chris said as he started doing karate moves or something all of a sudden.
Shit. This kid is a fucking riot. I want to adopt him!
"That good huh?" Will asked in between laughs.
Chris stopped pacing around and looked at Will, "YEAH!!! It was so much fun! But I didn't the ending was so sad though. He didn't end up with the girl because he got frozen in time for like 40 years or something."
Okay, wait a minute... Did he just spoil the... ending?!
"Tye, what are you doing?"
"Relax! Just trust me okay?" I replied as I guided Will across the night. Dinner was over and I hinted to Will earlier that the next thing we would be doing would be a surprise. And here we are walking through a meadow in the middle of the night, my hands covering Will's eyes as I guided him to my surprise.
"Tyler... Seriously, I'm getting scared," Will said with a nervous laugh.
I laughed, "Well, we're here. I'm going to put my hands down okay? Promise me you won't open your eyes until I tell you too."
"Okay."
"Alright," I replied as I removed my hands from Will's face. I quickly peeked up front to see if his eyes were open, but I let out a sigh or relief when I saw that they were still closed. Good. I want to see his reaction when he opened his eyes. I walked further up to a spot where I could get a real good view of his face and stopped. "Okay, you can open your eyes."
Will opened his eyes slowly and his mouth fell open. The moment of shock registered on his face was indescribable. Now, I just need to figure out if the shock was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Tyler... What... It's..."
"Do you like it?" I asked Will with a smile as I sat down on the blanket I laid down on the grass. I looked at Will and he was still surveying the entire location.
We were situated on top of a meadow just a few minutes out of Ridgemont. Now, the reason why this meadow was special was because of the flowers that grow here. I'm not really familiar what type they were, but they're normally white during the day, but at night, they seem to glow and radiate light from the night sky. The first time I saw it was by accident. I was driving home late one night when some important documents flew out the window and landed here. When I saw these white flowers radiating in the moonlight, I was entranced by its beauty. Now, I usually come here when I need to think or when I have a serious problem. And now, I'm sharing it with Will.
Of course, I had to make it special. So I laid out a blanket at the highest point of the meadow, so we have a gorgeous view of the entire meadow as well as the starry night sky. I placed some pillows, a food basket, and a small red radio... you know, in case we needed some music.
"Tyler... it's beautiful," Will said as he approached me and sat down beside me. "And the sky... shit... it's amazing."
"I know right?" I said as I laid down on the blanket and stared at the sky. It was filled with literally a million stars, which was perfect since Will really loves the Starry Eyed music video of Ellie Goulding... and that was the scene I was going for.
"It reminds me of Starry Eyed," Will said with a smile as he looked at me. "Is that what you were going for?" he asked me.
I looked at him with a huge smile on my face. "Did it pass?" I asked with a mischievous smile as I sat up and turned on my radio as some Death Cab for Cutie song came on.
"More than I could ever dream of," Will replied before staring at the night sky once again.
I fiddle around inside the picnic basket and brought out something for us to drink. "Want some?" I asked Will.
Will turned his attention back at me and raised an eyebrow. "Is that champagne??" he asked me.
"Yup," I replied innocently.
"Where on earth did you get one bottle?" he asked me as he grabbed one of the glasses from me and gestured me to pour him some.
"Oh, I've got my ways," I said as I poured his glass with champagne before doing the same with mine. As soon as I was done, I tucked away the bottle in the picnic basket and looked back at Will. "Cheers?" I asked him.
"Cheers to what exactly?" Will asked.
I didn't even need to think about what to toast about. There was only one thing I want to work out in my life and it was perfectly clear to me. "To us?" I asked him. Of course, I wouldn't know if Will agreed with me.
He smiled and said, "To us." Okay... I'm glad he agrees with me. As soon as our glasses clanged with each other, we drank the champagne down. I gave a small shrug as I got used to the taste. As you see, I'm not a champagne type of guy. I'm more of a beer chugger, but I wanted this night to be special of some sort and well, let's face it, beers are never sexy.
As soon as we drank the champagne away, I suddenly heard the intro of All You Wanted by Sounds Under Radio playing from my small red radio.
And... holy shit. This song. This motherfucking song explains all my emotions and what I'm feeling right now. There was one thing I wanted to say to Will that I was afraid to before... but with this song playing, I don't think I can hold it in any longer.
"Fuck," I accidentally blurted out loud.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Will asked me as he set aside his champagne glass and looked at me.
"Nothing... nothing," I murmured as the lead singer started singing the words of this song.
'I am the fold, in the wake Watch me push her back and break'
Fuck. I can feel my tears welling up.
'I lose all my friends, and wash away All the fractures I've displayed'
"Will... I need to tell you something," I said a little suddenly.
'But we still, hold on'
"Uh... okay, Will replied.
"I love you," I quickly said as I looked at him.
'Cause it was All you wanted And all I needed But all I gave up, now Could you hold me tighter When worlds collide Just hold me down right now'
I studied his face carefully. Will looked at me shocked and speechless. He was definitely surprised..... Oh fuck. Did I say it too soon?
'All these lines, in the air I don't know if anyone would care'
"Tyler... I.."
"No Will," I interrupted him. Shit. This is a disaster. I anxiously ran my hand through my hair.
'I'm losing my friends, in the wave Of all these fragments I can't fake'
"Will," I continued as I looked away in embarrassment, "I love you. I am in love with you! I've tried fighting, trying to stop myself from saying those words... but I can't anymore... I fucking love you William Lakewood."
And then, they came. Tears started pouring out of my eyes and onto my face.
'But we still, hold on'
"Tyler," Will said softly. I looked up at him, scared just how he would react. He crawled up to me slowly...
'Cause it was All you wanted And all I needed But all I gave up, now'
When we were merely inches apart, he gently grabbed my face and looked deep into my eyes, and whispered, "I love you too."
'Could you hold me tighter When worlds collide Just hold me down right now'
We stared at each other's eyes for a little longer. I'm not sure what we were looking for while doing that... but I leaned forward and kissed him.
'Pull me in Drown my fear'
I gently pushed Will down onto the blanket as I climbed on top of him and continued kissing him.
'Could you wait another day, knowing that I'll come back I'll come back... no fear'
Will ran his fingers through my hair as he bit my lip. I gave a small moan in response. Fuckk....
'Cause it was All you wanted And all I needed But all I gave up, now'
I gently slid down to Will's side as soon as we stopped kissing like maniacs. He gave a smile and wrapped his arms around me. I did the same to him.
'Could you hold me tighter When worlds collide Just hold me down right now'
"I love you Tyler Beaumont," he whispered as he rested his head on my shoulders.
'Cause it was All you wanted And all I needed But all I gave up, now'
I looked down at him and whispered into his ear, "I love you too, William Lakewood."
'Could you hold me tighter When worlds collide Just hold me down right now'
