************** If I let You Go 6 **************
********** Ryan's POV **********
"Is my tie on straight?" Jason asked me as I was sitting on his bed. I looked at him standing in front of the mirror, adjusting his tie. I couldn't help but smile as I saw the serious look he had on his face. It was the same look he has whenever he was studying.
"Yes," I answered him simply. I stood up and looked at him a little nervously. "Are you sure it's okay for me to come to the wedding?"
"We already discussed this, remember?" Jason sighed out deeply and faced me. I saw him giving me a smile and I couldn't help but smile back at him. Jason reached out and straightens my tie before giving me an approving look. "You look good in that tux."
"Thanks," I blushed deeply as he continued to grin at me stupidly.
"Every girl will wanna dance with you," Jason laughed out, as I became redder. Then Sarah knocked on the door and came in and told us that we had to leave or else we are going to miss the ceremony.
*********** Jason's POV ***********
I watched as Ryan was drinking alone in our table. I was dancing with a schoolmate of mine in high school. She was telling me some story about someone. I wasn't really paying much attention.
"Excuse me," I looked at my friend apologetically before I left her alone in the dance floor and I walked towards Ryan. I saw him give me a smile as he saw me approaching. "Mind if I sit down here?" I grinned at him playfully as I sat down next to him.
"No, no," Ryan shook his head at me.
"You came with anybody?" I said jokingly at him. He was looking at me happily now. "A girlfriend or something like that perhaps?"
"Well..I came here with this guy I'm living with but he left me for this dumb cheerleader girl," Ryan said as he couldn't help but laugh.
"He's probably an inconsiderate asshole," I stifled a laugh at him though there was a hint of seriousness in my voice.
"I---" Ryan was about to reply when he shut up and looked behind me in fear. I turned around and saw my grandfather walking up to us. I felt my body tense up as my granddad came up to our table.
"May I have a word with you Jason?" My grandfather said to me as he totally ignored Ryan like he wasn't even there.
"What's wrong?" I said in a tight voice as I sat up straight.
"This isn't the place to talk about this," Granddad looked at Ryan for a second then at me.
"Fine," I muttered out a little angrily as I stood up. I looked at Ryan apologetically. "I'll be back in a few minutes." I followed granddad to a backroom. As soon as we were alone, he gave me a really angry look.
"What is that piece of trash doing here?" Granddad exclaimed to me angrily.
"He's my friend," I said through gritted teeth, trying to keep calm. "You're the one who has a problem with the Clarks, not me."
********** Ryan's POV **********
I knew I shouldn't have followed Jason but I felt myself standing up and walking towards the room where he and his granddad were. I could hear that they were having some very heated argument. I knew it was about me.
I tried to keep my hands steady as I pressed my ear on the door. I heard a lot of words being used, mostly by Jason's granddad. I knew he was talking about me. I slowly backed away and then immediately walked out of the building. I didn't know where I was going, but I just couldn't stay in there anymore.
I went to the garden at the back and sat down on the bench in front of a huge fountain. I stared at the fountain glumly as I tried to shut everything out. I didn't even notice Jason sitting down next to me until he spoke.
"You okay Ryan?" Jason asked me softly as I felt his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close to him.
"I haven't felt this unwelcome in my entire life," I whispered to him softly.
"You wanna go now?" Jason said in a hoarse voice. I looked at him and saw that he was giving me this really concerned look.
"If you still want to stay, it's okay with me," I shook my head slowly.
"Come on," Jason stood up and grabbed my hand and pulled me to the parking lot. "I already told my mom that we'd be leaving soon anyway." Jason let go of my hand and I followed him to his car. We got in and he quickly drove off towards the house.
"I'm sorry Jason," I whispered to him softly. "Because of me you got into a fight with your grandfather."
"Don't apologize Ryan," Jason looked at my direction and gave me a smile. "You're the only one that kept me from being bored out of my mind in that party. Besides, it's granddad's fault for being so narrow-minded. Why can't he see what a charming guy you are?"
"You..you think I'm charming?" My eyes grew large as I heard Jason say that. My heart beat faster as I looked at Jason's smiling face. Jason didn't answer but just continued to smile at me.
*********** Jason's POV ***********
"This is the best lobster I have tasted," Ryan said to me while we were eating at this roadside diner we passed by on the way back to the campus.
"I knew you'd like this place," I smiled at him. "I used to go here a lot when I was a freshman and study here. I like the atmosphere." Ryan and I ate silently for a while. I noticed that Ryan stole glances in my directions. I gave him a quizzical look.
"I'm sorry for ruining your weekend," Ryan said softly. "I shouldn't have come."
"You're the only one that made the whole weekend bearable Ryan," I whispered to him as I gave him a nervous smile. I looked into his eyes and said, "Can I tell you a secret?"
"What?" Ryan leaned forward and whispered to me softly.
"I really like your company," I gave him a silly grin. Ryan's eyes grew large as a stupid smile formed in his face. He reached out and put his hand on top of mine and gave it a squeeze.
"Can I tell you a secret also?" Ryan said softly. I nodded my head as I looked into his deep blue eyes. Ryan gently caressed my hand and said, "I really like your company too."
********** Ryan's POV **********
I couldn't believe it! Jason said he likes me. Well..he didn't really say exactly that but who cares! At least he likes being with me. The two of us talked non-stop the rest of the drive to the campus. The incident earlier was completely forgotten.
I was laughing out hard at this joke Jason said as we entered our room. I went to my bed and lay down as Jason went to his desk and picked up a piece of paper. I was still grinning at him as he opened it and read it silently.
The smile on his face disappeared as he read the note. I sat up straight and looked at him quizzically as he sat down heavily on his bed. "Anything wrong Jason?"
"No, nothing," Jason looked up at me and gave me a forced smile. "It's just that----"
"What?" I whispered out in a hoarse voice. I knew this wasn't a piece of good news.
"They already fixed the mixed up and they said I could move in Maple Hall as soon as possible."
