Dylan
I zipped up the final bag, turned and threw it in the closet, and looked around the room.
I was finally home.
All finished putting all of my clothes back in their places, I fell down onto my bed.
My bed.
MY bed.
It felt so good to think that. I never realized how much I would miss this place. How much I would miss the normalcy of life this place has.
I was soon awoken by a knock at my door. I looked over at the clock and saw that I had apparently fell asleep.
"Come in!" I said as I stretched.
The door opened and in walks Colin.
"I see your finally back."
"Hey Colin," I said smiling. "Yeah, I just finished unpacking. Feels great to finally be back in my own room."
"I bet it does," he said, "though you lost those perks you said you had by living with Logan."
I blushed a little bit, "Well, we didn't get to use those perks much. He has a little brother who always seemed to be around."
"Couldn't just kick him out of the house for a bit?"
"It's freezing outside Colin."
"So? Give him a jacket."
"We just sent him to his room with loud music."
"Did you really? I bet he must have loved that."
"Was his decision after almost walking in on us."
"Wait, what?" Colin asked.
"During the snow day, Logan came into my room to tell me and, well, one thing led to another. I was slammed into a wall, which was apparently the wall that connected to his room, and he woke up and went to see what happened. Logan had thankfully locked the door before hand."
"He actually slammed you into a wall?"
"Well... yeah. I was standing, then he picked me up, and then I was against the wall."
Colin started laughing.
"What's so funny about that?"
"It's this whole situation. Just a week ago you were extremely scared to tell me you were gay. And now you are tell me, in some detail, what happens in your sex life."
"Well more of making out life. We were still mostly clothed."
"Whatever life it is, it's still funny," He said.
"Speaking of sex life. Whatever happened to that girl? Did she ever notice you?"
"Kind of did. They talked to me a little bit. From what I've heard life has been terrible to them recently. So I've been giving them space."
"Why do you never use gender specific words?"
"What do you mean?"
"In all the times we've talked about this subject, you've used 'they' or 'them' never 'she' or 'her'," I replied.
"I've never noticed."
~He's evading~ I thought.
He wasn't looking into my eyes and seems to want to change the subject. What is he hiding? There has to be a reason he never says she or her.
Is Colin...?
No, he couldn't be. Hi would tell me. After everything that has happened, he would tell me.
Wouldn't he?
We are best friends, but I've started to branch out my friendship circle.
He has to know that I would be fine with him being gay...
This isn't something I should push. Whether he is or isn't, he would tell me when he's ready. I'll just assume he didn't notice the gender neutral wording.
We sat in a silence for a few seconds.
"So how's Bryan and Shayne doing? I haven't seen them in awhile," I said.
"They're getting along. I haven't seen much of them recently either. Been busy."
"Been busy? With what? "
"I got a job, I have to pay for gas for the car and all."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm working at the BK near the mall."
"Awww look at little Colin growing up," I said with a smile.
"Shut up," He said back.
"Huh? What was that? You tellin' me to shut up?"
"Yeah, I am."
"What? Are you gonna force me to shut up? Huh? Huh?" I said continuing our banter.
We started to push each other playfully.
Before I knew it, Colin had tackled me and we started wrestling.
Colin must have continued to go to the gym without me. He was a hell of a lot stronger then I remember him being.
Right as I went to flip him, we fell off the bed, which caused him to be on top of me. Before I realized what had happened, Colin had my arms pinned above my head.
He had this slight smile on his face. His eyes locked in on mine.
We were both breathing heavily.
I don't know what told me to do it, but I felt myself being pulled towards him.
And unless I was seeing things, Colin was moving towards me. It was then my phone starting ringing.
Quickly, Colin jumped off of me and I slid away from him to grab my phone.
It was Logan.
"Hey Logan, what's up?" I said, answering it.
"Oh, just wanted to call and see how you were feeling being back home."
"I'm feeling great. It's gonna be great sleeping in my own bed tonight," I said, "Not that the guest room bed wasn't great..."
"It just wasn't your bed."
"Yeah, exactly," I said. "Hey, listen, Colin came over to hang out, so I'll talk to you later?"
"Oh, Colin's there? Don't let things get too wild. Remember who your boyfriend is."
"I remember," I said with a smile. "Talk to you later, Logan."
"Talk to you later Dylan."
We hung up and my eyes connected with Colin's. There was a slight red tint to his cheeks.
Meaning he knew what almost just happened.
"You've been going to the gym without me? You seemed a hell of a lot stronger since the last time we wrestled."
"Yeah, I've been going every day."
"Seems to be working, Maybe one day you'll actually beat me fair and square and you won't need us falling off the bed for you to win."
"Like I need all that to win. I could easily pin you."
"As if, dude. I would destroy you if I was trying."
We were standing close to each other right now. Our eyes met.
We quickly backed away from each other.
"Well it's great that you're back in your house. Maybe we can start hanging out again now that your back?"
"It's possible, seeing as I'm off the hockey team for the foreseeable future."
"Any idea if Principal Cooper is gonna let you back on? It's not like any of it was your fault," Colin said.
"Nope, no idea. As far as we know, we are off for the rest of the year," I said. "Which sucks because I was actually improving, and Logan might lose his scholarship to Bemidji State.
"I mean, he isn't hurting for money and all. But I think he doesn't want to use his parent's money."
"Him and his parents don't get along?"
"Understatement of the century. Though it may be on the mends since they allowed me to stay there. Me and his dad actually had some nice conversations while I was there."
"Really like what?"
"He was actually asking about Logan. Which was weird, because, from what I understand, he rarely talks to Logan," I said.
"That is weird, but I doubt Logan would lose his scholarship. It's not like he would instantly be bad by not playing for a few weeks. Isn't he suppose to be the best?" Colin said.
"Yeah, either the best or damn well close to it. But it's still something to worry about."
"Honestly there is nothing you can do about it, Dylan. So you shouldn't worry. You just have to keep on truckin' on."
"Easy for you to say."
"What's that suppose to mean?"
"What I mean is. Everyone seems to have something that will help them with college. It's something I realized when I lived with Logan. I got to see how he works. He has everything. He gets straight A's, has his hockey career, which most likely will end with him being drafted or signed. He's been scouted a bunch. And what do I have? I'm barely a B student, I barely was able to play decent hockey before Logan showed up to teach me. But now that's gone for who knows how long."
"Dylan..."
"No, don't 'Dylan' me. I'm screwed. If I'm going to college, it's going to land me in so much debt that I won't be able to get out."
"Just listen to me!" Colin snapped.
It startled me. Colin rarely raises his voice. "You'll be fine. You'll be back to playing before you know it. You'll kill it and get into college."
I wasn't convinced, but it wasn't worth pushing. I don't even know what forced me to bring it up, honestly.
I guess I did a lot of thinking while I was at Logan's.
"It's just that the future scares me. So much shit has happened to me and I don't know if I could have dealt with it alone."
"You'll never be alone Dylan. I will always be here for you. You're my best friend; you couldn't get rid of me if you tried. We may fight every once in awhile, but even during those times I will always be by your side if you need it."
It brought a smile to my face.
Colin was one of those friends that everyone wishes for. I wouldn't be who I am if I didn't have him.
"What the hell did I do to deserve a friend like you Colin?"
"Friendship is friendship. I wouldn't be much of a friend if I ran when you needed me."
Thinking about everything that has happened to me, I have to figure this past few weeks have been my low point. Now, everything is going to start falling into place. I finally feel like everything is going to start grtting better.
Finally.
Logan "So how are we going to go about doing this?" Jjay asked. We were finishing getting ready after our morning training session. Coach is still working with us even though I'm off the team. "I called Jason about it to see how it all works," I said. "He told me it's not as formal as we're making it out to be. He said over Christmas break he'll be back in town for a bit, so we can go about doing it then. But it seems we just show up, vote, and leave. No big speeches or anything." "Honestly, it seems to be for the best. It would probably be insanely heated between the two of you. And I'm not sure how much we could control you," he said. "I could see you losing control easily." "I've gotten better with my control after seeing how scared it makes Dylan look." "You almost threw Rickey through that locker." "But I didn't, and then after Jake said what he said I removed myself from the situation," I said, "I stayed in control." "That you did, but who knows what would happen if you couldn't remove yourself from the situation." "No use worrying about it now anyway, we still have a few weeks." "You have any idea what the Principal is gonna let you back on the team?" "No idea; I'm hoping to be back in time for the playoffs though." "Hopefully you will be; we have a reputation to uphold. Especially if we face Crosswell." "I'll be back. Trust me on that," Logan said. "Once my plan in finally finished, I'll be back" "Speaking of plan," Jjay said. He nodded his head motioning towards the parking lot. There, leaning on his car, was Jake. "Ugh, what does he want?" I said. "It's a little too early to deal with him." "Well we have no way to get past him since he's parked by our cars." "Yeah, I guess we have to talk to him." We walked forward and stood before him. I kept my glare icy. After how everything went down, I didn't want to talk to him at all. "What do you want Jake?" I asked icily. "It's cold and I'd rather not have to deal with you this early." "Look, we need each other. We both want back on our teams, right? Let's just fake it to the principal and then we all win. Alright?" He said. I turned my head and gave Jjay a 'Is he fucking kidding me' look. I turned and looked back at Jake. "Look, Jake, there is no way I'm going to 'fake' it with you," I said. "Think about what happened a few weeks ago. When we were kicked off our teams. What did you say? "You think I can work with you? Jake, this is all happening the way I want it to. You think I didn't know this is how it would all go down? You've known me for how long now? You know that I. Always. Win. You know that; you've seen my work. "Everything that has happened so far, Jake, has been because I planned it. You fucked with me sophomore year, so now I'm fucking with your life. "I've been playing a game of chess, and if you haven't noticed I've taken so many of your pieces, while all I've lost are pawns. I allowed you to take my number 1 spot, to give you a sense of winning. I talked Ricky up to you, because I knew you would take him from me. I knew the type of person he was. I knew how he would react to Dylan. I've watched these two all last year. I knew he would be your downfall. I gave him up so I could take his best friend from him. And now I made my major move. I gave up my spot on the hockey team, so I could take your football away, and not only that; I took away your Queen. Think about everyone and everything you've lost since we started fighting, and now think about everything I've lost. Who's lost more, Jake? I've set you in check and soon I will take away the only thing you have left. Your popularity. Soon you will have nothing. "So no, Jake, I'm not going to work with you. This is done. It's been done since it started. There is no, and never was a, way for you to win." "So you think," He said, "You think I care about all I've lost. No, I don't, and you haven't beaten me yet Logan. You act like you have no weakness, when you have a massive weakness." "If you touch him," I started. "Looks like I found your sore spot. This chess game isn't over; you may have taken my queen, but you have moved yours into a vulnerable spot. I'm hell of a lot smarter than you think I am." I kept quiet. Having a vulnerability was not something I was used too. I never thought I would get in this deep with Dylan. "Over Christmas, you will get what's coming to you Jake. Then, and only then, will this end," I said. "And to finish my sentence before I was interrupted. If you touch Dylan. I will rain hellfire down on you. There will be nothing left of you when I'm done. Up until now, Jake, you've seen me be logical, but I won't be if you touch him." Jake went quiet, he dipped his head a little bit and just stared at me; thinking. "If this is the way it's going to be Logan. You're gonna have a fight on your hands." "I've been fighting everyday since I started this." "So be it," Jake said as he walked to the driver seat of his car, but stopped short. "Just so you know, I actually don't care that you guys are gay. I was just supporting my asshole of a pick." He then got into his car and drove off. "Logan, tell me one thing," Jjay began, "What you said... you said, you planned everything that has happened so far. Did you pick Dylan because you knew he was gay and you wanted to use him." I took a deep breath. Jjay figured that out too fast, what do I say... "It started that way, but I never expected myself to like him like this. I'm used to being heartless, to not being able to make decent connections to many people. The only people I actually had a good friendship with was you and Amanda. I didn't think I would be connecting with him the way I did," I started, "But the fear he had in his eyes, the day he told me he was gay. It just... hit me. I actually wanted to protect him. I didn't expect it at all." "Okay... because Logan if you hurt him. I will rain hellfire down on you," Jjay continued, "He is too nice of a kid to string along like that. He deserves more than that." "I know Jjay," I replied, "When I started to fall for him I changed my plans. Tried to make it less reliant on him. Because I didn't want him to get hurt. It didn't work so well." "Yeah, it didn't but... but you helped him deal with it," he said, "What happened, happened. We can't do anything about it now. But now we start planning for Jake's counter attack. Because that is coming our way now." "We have to be ready, and we don't have Amanda or Sean to help us on their side now," I said, "But we can handle it." "I sure hope we can." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well there is the 19th chapter of 'I'll Make you Popular' I hope you enjoyed it!
