G. A. Patrick
Peyton woke up and discovered Jaiden wasn't in bed and he wasn't in the bathroom. Since it was a bit odd for Jaiden to get out of bed without waking him, Peyton went to the den to see if Jaiden was there.
When he turned right to go into the den after coming down the steps, he saw Jaiden sitting outside on the chaise lounge chair. He went outside, put his arms around Jaiden, and kissed the top of his head. "Babe, is everything OK?" "I guess so, Peyton. I got up and the house was so empty and quiet and I remembered everybody went home last night and the truth is, I miss them horribly. I had gotten used to them being here and it has only been one night. If I miss them so badly, what is it going to be like for me when our children get here and I have to be away from them. This type of loneliness is too surreal for me." "I know, Sweetheart, but it is something we both have to learn to understand and cope with. We'll get through this together, I promise."
Jaiden looked like he was a million miles away when a single tear dropped from his eye. Peyton sat on the chair with Jaiden and held him. He had never seen Jaiden feeling this way and it concerned him. He would wait and watch Jaiden and see if he snapped out of his grand funk. If he didn't, there would be a call to his Mom.
Jaiden didn't seem any better at lunch, so Peyton got his keys, grabbed Jaiden by the hand, and said come on, you're going somewhere with me. He got Jaiden in the car and headed to the beach at the lake. When they got there, they took off their shoes and started walking. There wasn't a distance in mind, Peyton was just making him walk to see if that would help clear his mind. They had their arms around each other's waist as they walked through the edge of the water.
They had walked about two miles when Jaiden abruptly stopped. "Peyton, I am so sorry. Feeling this way is not fair to you and to be frank about it, the way I am feeling is pure pontificated bovine fecal matter." After saying that Jaiden took Peyton's face in his hands and kissed him long and lovingly. For once, he didn't care if anyone was around much less that they might be offended.
Jaiden all of a sudden broke into a smile and said, "when we have our children at home, we will realize just how much our parents truly love us. That is the crowning glory to this situation for me. For the rest of the day, the smile he had never left his face and that left Peyton feeling at peace.
As they were walking back toward the car, Jaiden's phone rang and it was Angie's husband, Joseph.
"Jaiden, this is Angie's husband, Joseph. "May I ask you a question?" "Yes, sir, you may." "I would like to know what you and Peyton did to my wife." "Joseph, what do you mean?" "You seem to have somehow transformed her into the gentlest, most patient, most loving person I have ever met. Whatever you two did, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my marriage the best it has ever been. Even my boys have noticed the difference in their mother. While she has always been a loving, doting mother, she has been even more so since we got home. My sons are more at peace than I have ever seen them. They haven't even had an argument since their Mom got home. "
"Joseph, that is pretty much the way it always is and always has been here at the house and if it somehow rubbed off on Angie, that makes me extremely happy. To tell you the truth, when I woke up this morning, I was extremely depressed when I realized everybody was gone. I didn't want to talk to or be around anyone for a while."
"Peyton finally grabbed my hand and told me we were going somewhere and he brought me to the beach. We have been walking at the edge of the water for several hours. You call and lift my spirits by saying what you did. Thank you for doing that. I hope you know you and your family are welcome here anytime you want to visit. You and Angie can go stay at the Bayfront for a week or so and see all the beautiful gardens and historic places and the boys can stay at the house or you can all stay at the house. When the construction is completed in a couple of months, we are going to have more than enough room. We are adding two large nurseries with large open baths on the same floor as our bedrooms and two bedrooms with similar baths on the lower floor."
"You know, Jaiden, when vacation rolls around next year, we may just take you up on that offer. We loved what we saw of the area while I was there with Angie, and the boys haven't stopped talking about the camp-out on the deck with Jason and David. And by the way, Angie thinks the world of the four of you, and she has said many times that Temple Anshe Hesed was one of the most accepting and loving synagogues she has ever attended. I would also like to experience your synagogue."
"Joseph, we have talked about the time the ladies were here, and we have talked about meeting you and your children. It is hard for me to describe what I am about to say, but you and your family seem to us to be our family as well. You are welcome here anytime." "Thanks, Jaiden, I just wanted you to know how you four helped improve my marriage and made my sons happier than they have ever been. I'll let you get back to your walk. I hope you and Peyton have a wonderful day." "I wish the same for you and your family. Thanks for calling."
"Jaiden was that Angie's husband?" "It was and he wanted us to know that we somehow made his marriage much better than it has ever been and his sons are the happiest he has ever seen them. He said they enjoyed the campout with Jason and David immensely and since getting home, they haven't had a single disagreement or argument. That is when you heard me tell him that is pretty much the way it always is in our home. I am going to be OK now, his call more than lifted my spirits." Peyton laid his head on Jaiden's shoulder and didn't say a word until they reached their car. Both had smiles from ear to ear as they headed home. As we were headed home, Peyton's phone rang and it was Jenny's husband, Rob. Peyton answered it on the Navigator's Bluetooth system, so I got to hear what he had to say to Peyton.
"Peyton, I don't know what y'all did with the ladies while they were there, but it has been so awesome since Jenny got home. She has been a different person and she has been calmer and more loving than I can ever remember. I mean she has always been loving, but it goes much deeper now. So whatever you guys did while she was there, thank you so much."
"Rob, we were just ourselves. We show a lot of love to each other, we don't argue because we don't have to, and we treated them the way we would want to be treated, nothing more and nothing less."
"Well, Peyton, I have learned from you and Jaiden and I am going to make the effort to put into practice what you two have taught me, and I am going to make it the rule of the house so we all can grow on the lesson. Who knows, my sermon Saturday morning most likely will be on the lessons learned from the four of you. I just wanted to say thanks and that I love you guys to Mars and back. We love you, too, Rob. Thanks for calling with such wonderful news."
When Rob hung up, I looked over at Jaiden and his eyes were red and watery. When we got home and walked into the den, Dale and Charley were sitting on the couch with tear-stained faces and eyes that were swollen, red and watery. We asked what was wrong and they said, "nothing, Marty's husband, Tom, called to talk to us and what he had to say about how his marriage has improved because of us has made his family infinitely happier than it ever has been and the children, he said, haven't had so much as an argument since getting home. He just wanted to thank the four of us for whatever it was we did that made his wife and his boys so much happier. We had been missing the ladies so badly that we needed that call."
"That is interesting, we got a similar call from my brother-in-law, Rob, saying the same thing and that his sermon Saturday morning was going to be on that very subject. Before Rob's call, Angie's husband, Joseph, called saying virtually the same thing. Jaiden had gotten up this morning without me knowing it and was sitting on the deck when I found him looking a million miles away from home. He was in such a depressed state that I took him to the lake's beach to walk and try to get his mood lifted. Thankfully, Joseph's call greatly lifted his spirits."
Peyton took Jaiden upstairs and made him lay opposite his side of the bed. Peyton climbed in bed behind him and held him until they both fell asleep. When they woke up, Jaiden was in a much better frame of mind. The thought that the husbands of the ladies wanted to come back and spend some time with us touched his heart more than anybody will ever know.
The next morning, all the guys smelled something heavenly coming from the kitchen. When they got downstairs, Ginny had put a twist on the Banana-macadamia Nut waffles: She turned the recipe into pancakes. Since the boys would eat ham, she had cooked some country ham, made redeye gravy, and cooked some regular grits. Jaiden stuffed himself with the grits and gravy. Peyton smiled without saying a word about not getting any of the grits.
When Jaiden's Mom called that morning, Peyton got the phone first and told her about not getting any grits because Jaiden had eaten them all. She started laughing and clapping her hands. She said she would talk to him about his `weight' when she spoke to him, but in the meantime, she asked Peyton if Jaiden was doing OK since the ladies left. He told Mom that Jaiden woke up in a grand funk and got out of bed without him knowing it. He said he found Jaiden on the deck and talked to him for a few minutes. When Jaiden didn't come out of his mood, he had decided to take him to the beach and make him walk it off.
While we were at the beach, Angie's husband called to talk to him and to say thank you for whatever it was we did that made his marriage better than it had ever been. Jaiden told him that we just did what we always do at home avoiding drama and arguments and showing each other mutual, loving respect. Joseph told Jaiden that it rubbed off on Angie and that she was totally different and way more loving when she got home. He said that their visit when you saw them here changed his sons to the point that after they got home there hasn't been an argument or disagreement between them. Joseph said the night we gave them at the Bayfront and the day they had afterward was the most romantic time they had in years, and that the boys had immensely enjoyed the campout with Jason and David. They all want to come back and spend some time with us because they so enjoyed their visit and the area when they were here.
Jaiden suggested they could have a week-long anniversary stay at the Bayfront and the boys could stay here and play with Jason and David. That perked up Joseph and his response made Jaiden extremely happy and took him out of the loneliness he felt after the ladies left to go home with their families.
Mom Reynolds said she was glad to hear that because she thought that was exactly what Jaiden would do. She said to kiss Jaiden for her. Peyton said, Oh no!" "Peyton, what do you mean by `Oh no'? "Mom, every time I kiss Jaiden for someone it always leads to extracurricular activities." Mom said, Peyton, you are so bad, kiss him anyway and have a good time. I'll talk to you later. Love you guys!" "We love you too Mom."
"Jaiden!" "Yes sir." "We are in trouble." "Why?" "Your Mom told me to kiss you for her." Jaiden got up and went into the bedroom, stuck his head around the door saying, "Well, what are you waiting for, come kiss me for Mom." We both started laughing when I started toward the bedroom. After I got to the bedroom, it became a different story when Jaiden closed and locked the door. Fireworks were going off everywhere, explosions were occurring, and by the time everything ended, we were exhausted.
Jaiden said thanks for taking him to the beach and letting him walk off his mood. He told me I still amazed him every day, and that every day, he loved me a thousand times more than the day before. I kissed him again and we didn't get out of the bedroom for three hours.
When we went into the den, Dale asked, "What's going on with you two, you have been in the bedroom for four hours?" Jaiden told him, "Mom told Peyton to kiss me and you know what that leads to. 30 minutes later when we were still trying to get our breath, Peyton kissed me again and the game was on again, and damn it was good!"
Dale and Charley started laughing so hard tears were coming out of their eyes and they were having a hard time getting a breath.
"Peyton, it has turned into an awesome morning and afternoon." "Yes, Babe, it certainly has. Let's all go to Tony's and get a pizza." With that said, we all jumped into the Navigator and headed to Tony's. When we got there, Phil took one look at us and said, "Damn, guys, you look so upbeat this morning." Jaiden told him it has been a really good morning and then started grinning from ear to ear. Phil said, "enough guys, I don't want to hear anymore. TMI, TMI." We all died laughing.
After lunch, we all went back to the beach to walk hand-in-hand with each other. The morning had been romantic and the afternoon was turning out to be just as romantic, only in a different way.
While we were walking, we saw Judge Stanislauski with his husband. He stopped us to introduce us to his husband, Jay. After we had been introduced to jay, Jaiden introduced Peyton as his husband and then introduced Dale and his husband, Charley. We exchanged pleasantries and started walking together. Peyton said, "Judge..." and Judge Stanislauski said, "We are not in the courtroom so I am plain old Don, and I do mean old! Besides we are cousins if you didn't know that. Just don't tell anybody so they won't move to overturn Mr. Ronkowski's sentence. We all laughed.
Don and his husband were a hoot away from the courtroom. He told us he was extremely proud of us and that his getting to attend the naming of the schools in our honor was the highlight of the year, well, maybe the second highlight of the year. He looked at Jay and said, "Hon, do you remember me telling you about the young man who took two fingers and beat the hell out of the thug who tried to rob his husband and friends. Meet Peyton!"
Jay started laughing and said that was so awesome to watch. Bobby apparently had emailed a copy of the video Jenny had shot to the judge. The judge said, "While we are on the subject of Bobby and Roger, they are also your cousins. They didn't know it so I told them after Court in my chambers. They got a kick out of that news." Jaiden started laughing and said he must be a relative of everybody in Erie. Don looked at him and said, "You are close to being right, Jaiden, very close." We all were laughing at that point. Jaiden mused as to what else his mother had not told him. Don laughed and told Jaiden he might not want to ask that question.
The judge said, "to hell with what people think, lets meet for dinner at the country club." Jaiden said, "date." Two hours later we had showered, dressed, and met the judge at the club.
Jaiden was happy when he saw the night's menu was prime rib and grilled asparagus. Don laughed at Jaiden's excitement and let him know Dr, Mom had told him it was Jaiden's favorite meal. Jaiden raised his eyebrows at that statement. "By the way, Peyton, Peggy knows what you did to Mr. Ronkowski and she is extremely proud of you for what you did to protect the ladies. She won't mention it to you, just know she is." Thank you, sir, I will keep that in the back of my mind."
After dinner, they all went back to the guy's home and Dale made coffee, with caffeine this time, and they all sat on the deck drinking coffee and shooting the bull. It turned out to be a great day and night for Jaiden especially.
Don asked if it was true that we would be having nine children in the house fairly soon. We all said yes, and may Hashem help us when they get here. Don laughed and said you are probably going to need that help especially if a Jenny is in the mix. We looked at him rather quizzically and he told us he was also cousins down the line with Mom Phyllis. That is when he said Mom Phyllis was just like Jenny when she was a little girl.
It started getting late, so the Judge and Jay said they had thoroughly enjoyed the day and the evening and our conversation, but they needed to get home since he had a full day of court in the morning. As he was leaving, he said we have to do this again and we agreed. We all shook hands and he and Jay left.
After they left, Jaiden checked his email and had one from Jaiden in the UK. He answered my Jaiden's email saying that his spouse's name was Peyton Alan Watts-Reynolds. That blew Jaiden's mind that the other Jaiden was also married to a young man named Peyton. It surprised me as well. We were surely going to visit the UK now to visit Jaiden's cousin.
He said he lived on the western coast of the UK in a village called Wanborough just outside Swindon Wiltshire. Jaiden looked it up and said it would be the perfect place to visit when we finished medical school. I agreed with Jaiden. The place is simply too beautiful to pass up visiting.
The babies would be here around March 2021, so we will most likely go to Wanborough the following April after the babies' first birthday provided Ginny and Granny can and will go with us. We both figured we could stay for two weeks and enjoy the coast in the UK. Charley and Dale said they wanted to go since that trip was also on their bucket list. With the extra money that came in for the house remodel, it is going to be a go for that trip.
The four of us are extremely excited about the trip. When we told Jaiden's Mom about the trip, she said she would like to go. We told her by all means, we would love to take her to the UK after all she had done for us. She is so much fun to be around and travel with that we are more excited than ever about making the trip. We just hope Jaiden and Peyton will enjoy meeting so many of us. We have even picked out the old Inn where we will stay. Damn, I am so stoked about having this vacation to relax when we finish medical school because once we start our internships and residency programs, we won't be able to go anywhere for almost four years.
When we got up the next morning, Jaiden spent a whole day writing a story about the trip and making notes of what he wanted to do with his family, especially his extended UK family.
That email kicked Jaiden completely out of the grand funk he had been in earlier in the day. Tonight was going to be a lot of fun with no friction whatsoever, pun intended. Capping a day of making love off with a night of making love, could I be any luckier? I don't think so.
