Jamie's Romance - Chapter Twenty-One
Jamie knew that he was in heaven. Laying in Justin's arms was definitely on his list of top 3 things, ok, top 2. It was neck and neck with his grandmother's apple pie which was just barely hanging on and losing ground fast. This was one of the few places he felt truly safe and loved.
They were in the playroom cuddled into one of the couches. Having decided to wait on dinner as it was still early, they each grabbed a sandwich and came down there to relax. Justin was spooned up behind Jamie gently kissing the back of his neck while Jamie switched between VH1 and MTV.
"What -are- you doing?" Justin asked between kisses.
Jamie squirmed when Justin lightly licked the back of one of his earlobes and giggled happily. "The screen is so big I wanted to see if I could catch my boyfriend and see him -larger than life-."
Justin chuckled and jumped up. "Hey, no references to -them-, even by accident." He bent over and kissed a laughing Jamie on the forehead then went over to a cabinet and put a DVD into the carousel. Settling back into place behind Jamie, he pulled him tight against his chest. "Push the play button."
Jamie looked at the remote for a second then pushed. 'Tearin' Up My Heart' flooded the room and Jamie saw a gigantic 'NSync dancing on the screen. Justin groaned and buried his head onto Jamie's shoulder when Jamie bobbed his head and shook his hips to the beat. Suddenly the music cut out. Justin looked up to see what was wrong only to see a gigantic version of himself sprawled on the bed in stop motion.
"See, I told you that you looked hot in a tank top."
Justin laughed. "You realize I was 15 when we filmed that."
"I was 17 when it hit the states a year later and I still thought you looked hot."
"Dirty old man," Justin laughed teasingly.
"Hey, I'm only a year older than you!" Jamie turned his head and Justin kissed him on the lips to silence him. "But you're hotter now, anyway," he added when Justin let his lips go. He pressed play and the video continued. "But that hair, Justin, what were you thinking?"
Justin tickled him. "It wasn't -that- bad. I know it looks like Astroturf but it was actually very soft, we used gel and mousse instead of hair spray to get it uncurled. Believe me it wasn't entirely my idea. At least the dye part wasn't."
Jamie turned on his back and ran his hair through Justin's soft curls. "Now you've gone the opposite way. I like this better, but you do need a cut, sweetie."
Justin nodded. "Just waiting until it gets long enough to get all the dyed damaged parts gone without it looking funny. Plus I haven't had a whole lot of time, I'm planning on maybe getting it done this week."
Jamie smiled and kissed Justin. "I think you're sexy no matter what you do to your hair. But I do prefer to have something to run my hands through." Jamie continued to play with Justin's hair. Justin sighed happily and put his head on Jamie's chest and listened to his heartbeat.
They stayed like this long after the disc had finished. After awhile Justin spoke again. "You asked me before when I fell in love with you. Would you tell me when you fell in love with me?"
Jamie smiled and kissed Justin's forehead and starting singing.
"I knew I loved you before I met you,
I think I dreamed you into life.
I knew I loved you before I met you,
I've been waiting all my life."
He stopped as Justin started tickling him. "Come on, Jame, I'm serious."
"Jame?" Jamie questioned.
"Just trying it out for size. Now answer the question." Justin propped his head on one hand looking down at Jamie expectantly.
Jamie giggled. "Well, when we met I just had a feeling about you... about us. I don't know what it was but I felt this connection with you almost right away." Justin nodded knowing what he meant. "I knew that I had fully fallen in love with you when you first sang to me. You remember?" Justin smiled, a tear forming in his eye with the memory. "Well that's when I knew I was head over heels."
"And today I still mean every word." Justin's words brought a wide smile to Jamie. He leaned up to kiss him lovingly. Justin rolled onto him and pushed him down onto the cushions, deepening the kiss. Their tongues mirrored their hands freely exploring each other.
Justin moaned as Jamie rested his hands on his ass and gently squeezed and rubbed. "I love you so much, babe. I'm glad you surprised me."
"I'd do anything for my man," Jamie replied as he started kissing Justin's jaw and neck.
They continued making out until they were interrupted by Justin's cell phone.
"I knew I should've turned it off." Justin pulled out his phone from his pocket. "Remember where we were, huh?" he asked Jamie with a wink as he answered his phone. It was a very quick conversation that Justin had barely said two words.
"What's up?"
"That was Johnny. He called to tell me that Josh was there, which we already knew, and that he was crying and not saying anything to anybody. He wants us to come by tomorrow to see what we can do. He says hi by the way."
Jamie smiled. Something occurred to Justin just then. "He knew too?"
Jamie simply nodded. "Everyone did but you, sweet pea."
"Sweat pea?" Justin asked with a grin. "So that's why Joey and Chris were 'busy' tonight, huh?"
Jamie nodded and kissed Justin's nose. "Now where were we?" he asked.
"You were supposed to remember so now I'll just have to start all over again." Justin leaned back down and gently placed his lips over Jamie's and just held there giving soft kisses. Slowly he began to rub and feel Jamie's lips with his. Justin grabbed Jamie's upper lip between both of his and gently sucked. Jamie moaned as he caressed Justin's lower lip with his tongue. They were just starting to bring the kiss deeper when they were interrupted by a loud growl from Justin's stomach.
Jamie giggled. "I see somebody else has some other ideas." He checked his watch. "Not surprised, it's almost 8, Justin. I'm kinda hungry too."
"Let's go make something for dinner." Justin got off of Jamie and held his hand out and pulled Jamie to his feet.
"Lead the way, sexy."
Hand in hand they went to the kitchen. Lance had left them some chicken in a marinade which Jamie quickly cooked while Justin set the kitchen table and readied some vegetables.
"Lance is so thoughtful. That's his special chicken recipe that he learned from his grandmother."
"We'll have to go shopping to get him something nice." Justin nodded and kissed Jamie on the cheek in response.
Grabbing a bottle of wine, Justin lit some candles and helped Jamie get the food to the table. They sat as close together as they could while eating.
Justin held his wine glass out to Jamie. "To my most wonderful and beautiful boyfriend."
Jamie blushed but returned the toast. "To the handsomest and most talented man on earth."
They clinked glasses and took a sip. Justin leaned over for a kiss. He licked the wine off of Jamie's lips with his tongue making Jamie lightheaded. Jamie returned the favor and they almost forgot the rest of the meal.
"So what's for dessert?" Justin teased as he reluctantly pulled away.
"You only get dessert if you clean your plate."
Justin smirked at Jamie. "Yes, mommy."
Jamie laughed and swatted his thigh then left his hand there gently rubbing back and forth.
"Trying to distract me?"
"Nope," Jamie said smiling, "giving you some positive reinforcement."
When they had finished eating they cleared the table and put the dishes in the washer.
"So, I finished my plate, do I get some dessert now?"
Jamie winked at Justin. "How about bringing the rest of the wine and checking out the hot tub?"
Justin grinned eagerly, grabbed the bottle and the glasses and followed Jamie down to the tub. They sat on the edge with their feet in the warm water as they cuddled.
"Justin, can we talk?" Jamie asked hesitantly.
"Sure, what's on your mind?"
"Plenty," Jamie sighed snuggling his head on Justin's shoulder.
"Well, let's take it one thing at a time."
Jamie nodded and took a deep breath collecting his thoughts. "I'm worried about Lance and Josh."
"Me too, sweetie, but there's not much we can do about it, especially with Lance in Mississippi. It's something they'll need to work out themselves and we can just be there to support them."
"I know and that's why it bothers me. I know we want this time for the two of us but can we do something with Josh tomorrow? It doesn't feel right that he's alone and miserable. It would make me feel better."
"No wonder I love you. That's a great idea. Maybe we could do Universal tomorrow, it's one of Josh's favorite places."
Jamie smiled. "Isn't that like defection, oh former Mouseketeer."
Justin laughed. "I said -one- of his favorite places. Epcot is still his ultimate favorite, I think."
"Thanks for understanding." He leaned in for a kiss then returned his head to Justin's shoulder. Justin sat quietly and let him continue at his own speed.
"I want to talk about us," Jamie finally said shyly.
"Anything serious?"
"Maybe... Yes... No... I don't think so." Jamie sighed obviously trying to make sense. "Just some stuff I want to talk to you about."
Justin rested his chin on the top of Jamie's head. "I know, babe, I have some things I want to talk to you about too." He stopped and listened to the crickets coming from Lance's pond and rubbed Jamie's back. "I tell you what, tonight let's just relax and be together. Tomorrow we have plans, so let's sit and talk on Monday, just the two of us, ok?"
Jamie's arms circled Justin's waist and squeezed. "That sounds fine."
"Do you want to invite Chris and Joey tomorrow?"
"We should, huh?"
Justin shook his head. "Not necessarily. Josh and I do things alone all the time. We're not all attached at the hip, you know," he laughed.
Jamie smiled. "Let's see if they'd like to go too. I would like to see them while I'm here."
"Ok, let's go inside and make some calls. It's getting chilly out here anyway."
"Chilly?!! It's still over 60 degrees. It was hovering around freezing and sleeting when I left New York this morning, this is paradise by comparison."
Justin stood and pulled Jamie up with him. "Well, I'm a southern boy and I'm used to hot. Anything below 70 is winter to me," he kidded bringing out his drawl.
Jamie stood looking at him smiling.
Justin looked back slightly confused. "What, I got something in my teeth or something?" he grinned at Jamie.
"No, I was just noticing your accent."
"I spent alot of money learning how to lose that accent," Justin chuckled as they headed up to the house.
"Well, I think it's cute." Justin raised an eyebrow. "And sexy," added Jamie with a kiss. "There's something about boys with southern accents."
"I like your accent too."
"I do -not- have an accent," Jamie said emphatically.
"Oh yes you do, you Yankee. There are times when you almost sound like that guy in the Pepperidge farm commercials but it's not that thick."
Jamie playfully slapped Justin's arm. "His accent his horrible, not at all like mine."
"AHA! See you even admit it! I win!" Justin exclaimed as he did a little victory dance.
"Come on goofball," Jamie laughed at him as he opened the door. "To the victor go the spoils."
Justin grabbed Jamie around the waist as they entered the house. "I prefer to think I got the grand prize," he said as he kissed Jamie's neck.
Jamie emptied the dish washer and cleaned up the kitchen while Justin made the phone calls. They both finished at about the same time and Jamie joined Justin in the living room on one of the loveseats.
"So what's the story?"
"Well, Chris is going to Tampa with his girlfriend tomorrow but Joey said he'd come. It took some convincing with Josh. I think he wanted to be alone and used the excuse of not wanting to intrude on our time. When he finally said yes I could tell he was excited to go. We haven't been in a long while."
"Good."
"He's picking us up around 9." Justin hesitated then glanced at Jamie. "Um, there's something else. I totally forgot my Mom is having everybody over for dinner tomorrow night. I want you to come too."
Justin was clearly nervous, more than Jamie had ever seen him. He tried to gauge what kind of response Justin expected him to give. He squeezed Justin's hand. "Your Mom doesn't know, does she, Justin?"
Justin looked down to the floor shaking his head.
Jamie lifted Justin's head with a finger under his chin. "Justin, I know it's hard and I won't pressure you to tell her until -you're- ready to. But you know that you'll have to tell her eventually."
Justin nodded and hugged Jamie to him. "Thanks for understanding. I will tell her, and soon." He sat thinking for minute. "I want you to be there when I do. I'll want to tell her everything."
"Sure, baby. I'll be there for you." Justin looked at Jamie with a smile. Jamie gave Justin a loving kiss. "I should go unpack."
They went upstairs and Justin ran into one of the spare bedrooms and came out with a medium sized suitcase.
"What's that?"
"We all have spare clothes at the other's houses. It makes staying over alot easier." Justin grinned.
"That's a pretty smart idea," Jamie said as they went into what would be their bedroom for the weekend.
"I know, it was mine!"
It didn't take long for Justin to throw his clothes in a drawer while Jamie unpacked his things to put in the bathroom. Justin looked at Jamie's suitcase and ran his fingers over the monogram 'JJC'.
"What's your middle name?"
"Promise you won't laugh?"
"Cross my heart and all that. It can't be any worse than Randall."
"Oh, I wouldn't know about that. It's Jefferson, my grandmother's maiden name."
Justin smiled. "Jameson Jefferson Campbell," he recited formally. "I like it, it's so dignified."
"It's a tradition to give middle names like that in my family. I had a cousin for the longest time call me Jimmy-Jeff. He stopped when I pounded him."
Justin smirked. "So I guess I shouldn't call you that, huh?"
"Not if you value your pretty looks," Jamie grinned.
"How about your brothers?"
"Well, Dan's full name is Daniel Danforth Campbell."
"I see a pattern here," Justin smirked.
"Yup," Jamie nodded, "the 'rents really got into the initial thing."
"What about your younger brother, um.. Phil?"
"Phillip Parsons Campbell. Dan used to really piss him off by calling him Pee Pee when he was little." Justin laughed while Jamie grinned.
"Do you have a picture?"
"Ya, sure." Jamie pulled out his wallet and handed Justin a picture. "It's of the three of us. We had it done a year ago at Christmas for my grandmother."
Justin studied the picture. In the middle was Dan, looking like the older more responsible one, sitting on a large armchair. To his right was Jamie, a broad smile on his face. Justin's heart melted seeing -this- Jamie, a Jamie he had only known for a few hours before he was buried deep. Justin vowed that he would see that Jamie again. He then looked at the figure on Dan's left sitting on the arm of the chair. Justin's breath caught for a second. Phil was beautiful, there was no other way to describe it. He had the same basic features that the other two brother's shared but he had the palest skin, more pale than Lance, and his long hair was a vibrant red that he wore in a pony tail.
"Geez, Jamie, Phil is very striking looking."
Jamie sighed. "I know, I hear that all the time. He certainly is the prettiest one of us and he uses it to his advantage whenever he can. It seems Dan got the brains, I got the talent and Philly got the looks."
Justin handed back the picture and drew Jamie into his arms. "I don't know about that. You sure do have talent, and I think you're pretty smart. Plus -you're- the one that gets my heart beating. I love you, Jamie."
Jamie smiled at Justin. "You are such a charmer. I love you so much too." Jamie leaned his head on Justin's shoulder and hugged him tight. They stood for a minute just holding each other both content to stay in the embrace.
Jamie raised his head and kissed Justin before leaving his arms to put his suitcase in the closet. He stood in the doorway to the bathroom thinking for a minute. He looked back at Justin with an uncertain look about him. "Um, Justin, I'd like to take a bath."
Justin smiled at him. "Go right ahead, babe, I can amuse myself for a little bit. That tub is huge and it's alot of fun."
"No," Jamie said softly, "I'd like you to come with me."
Justin hesitated sensing that Jamie was a little unsure of himself. The pleading look in his eyes made up Justin's mind for him. "I would love to, but only if you're sure."
Jamie nodded with a small smile. 'Why am I being such a baby?' he asked himself. 'I want nothing but to be with him and I keep freaking out. Relax, breath...' He watched as Justin started the water, checking the temperature. Jamie looked around and saw the bubble bath and added some. Soon the tub was full of bubbles, the air growing steamy.
Justin slowly moved up behind Jamie and wrapped his arms around him, holding him tight as he gently kissed his neck. Jamie sighed and turned to face him putting his arms around Justin's shoulders.
"I guess we should get in, huh?" Justin nodded and reached to the hem of Jamie's shirt and slowly pulled it up and over his head. Jamie held his breath and closed his eyes willing himself to be calm. With trembling hands he did the same to Justin.
As he reached for Justin's belt, Justin took and held his hands. "Jamie, we don't have to do this if you're not up to it."
"No!" he wailed. "Please Justin, I need to do this, to make myself do this. Do you understand? I need to prove to myself that I can."
Justin smiled at Jamie and nodded. He put his palm on the side of Jamie's head and stroked his cheek with his thumb. "I understand. I just want you to know that you don't ever have to do anything you don't want to because of me." He dropped his hand to his side and stood waiting for Jamie.
Jamie smiled, tears in his eyes. With a look of fierce determination he unhooked Justin's belt and the button of his pants. He took a deep breath and lowered the zipper. Quickly, without thinking, he hooked his fingers in waistband and pulled both Justin's pants and boxers down in one motion. Jamie stood there breathing heavy, his head down and eyes closed.
Justin raised his head with a finger under his chin. "You, ok?" he asked simply. Jamie nodded not breaking eye contact. "Keep looking at me. Don't look away." Jamie nodded again. Justin reached over and undid the button of Jamie's jeans and lowered the zipper.
Jamie's lower lip was trembling but he didn't break eye contact. Justin slowly pushed the jeans and boxer briefs over Jamie's slim hips letting them fall to the floor. "Will you help me wash my hair," Justin quietly asked. Jamie smiled and nodded.
They stepped out of their pants and into the tub letting the hot water soak into their skin. Justin dunked himself completely and came up wiping soap bubbles from his eyes. After a second Jamie did the same. Grabbing the shampoo, Justin squirted a little out into both of their hands. They sat in silence lathering each other up.
With piles of suds in their hair they sat back against the side of the tub to soak, shoulder to shoulder. Justin reached over and held Jamie's hand under the water their fingers intertwined. "You doing ok, babe?"
Jamie looked over and smiled at Justin. "I'm better now. Thanks for understanding."
"I just want what's best for you, you know that." Jamie nodded and leaned over to kiss Justin's cheek.
They sat for a minute before Jamie shifted. He sat between Justin's legs and leaned back against his chest. Justin nuzzled his cheek against Jamie's and wrapped his arms around him.
"This whole big garden tub and you have to sit on top of me," he laughed.
"I'll move if you want me to." Jamie made to get up but Justin didn't let go.
"Don't you even dare."
They settled down relaxing, letting the hot water soothe them. Justin hummed the tune to God Must Have Spent in Jamie's ear as Jamie dozed, his breathing deep and regular.
As he hummed, Justin sat and pondered what life would be like if he could do this every night. He thought often about the price for his success and knew that he would give up everything if it meant a lifetime with Jamie. He also knew he couldn't just give it up, it was too much a part of him and Jamie would never let him. These thoughts confirmed what he and Greg had talked about. His willingness to sacrifice in this way meant something, his total surrender to the relationship. No, not surrender, that wasn't the right word. More like giving, he was giving himself completely now and there was no turning back.
They stayed this way until Justin felt the water getting a little cool. He roused Jamie and they stood as Justin pulled the plug to let the water drain. Turning on the tap and testing the water, he turned on the shower to rinse themselves off. Jamie stayed slumped against him the entire time, still half asleep. Justin quickly toweled them both dry and led Jamie back into the bedroom.
As they got into bed Jamie came a little more awake. "I love you, JuJu. Don't ever leave me."
Justin chuckled at the nickname that hadn't been used since his Mouse Club days. It gave him a warm feeling inside as Jamie said it. "Not if I have anything to say about it, so don't worry. I love you too, sweat pea."
Jamie smiled and snuggled onto Justin's chest and soon fell fast asleep. Justin was not far behind him.
