Flying Without Wings - Chapter Twelve

It was close to dawn when the Jamie and Justin got off the elevator on their floor. Lonnie laughed as they swayed down the hall. Justin had his arm across Jamie's shoulders while Jamie kept himself steady with his arms around Justin's waist. They were giggling and laughing to each other. As they reached Lonnie, he put a finger to his lips in a shushing motion.

"What's up, big guy?" Justin asked in an exaggerated whisper.

Lonnie pointed behind him and they saw Chris laying on the floor, curled up around a pillow with a blanket over him. "He's been here all night waiting for you."

Justin and Jamie looked at each other and their faces softened. "How sweet. Let's wake him up and get him into a real bed," Jamie said.

"Hey, where are your partners in crime?"

Justin smiled. "They're downstairs ordering breakfast. They should be up any minute."

"Ok, children, what do you mean by staying out all night long?" Joey stood in the doorway to his room in a T-shirt and boxers, yawning.

"Joey!" Jamie laughed and launched himself into Joey's arms. Joey caught him easily and hugged him before dropping him to his feet.

"Are you drunk?" Joey smiled.

"We had a few drinks," Justin admitted. "But not enough to get drunk. We're just on a high, that's all."

"You didn't take drugs, did you?"

"No, Joe," Jamie answered with a smile. "We're high on the whole experience."

"I take it you had a good time?" Chris said from the floor. He was sitting up and rubbing his eyes.

"Chris!" Jamie squealed. He dropped down and hugged Chris as well. "You're so sweet. You stayed up worrying about us." Jamie kissed Chris's forehead and nearly strangled him with a hug around his neck.

Joey looked at Justin. "Well, with his medication the alcohol hits him a little harder," Justin shrugged.

The elevator dinged and Lance and JC stepped off laughing and holding hands. "Oh look, a party," JC giggled as he leaned against Lance.

"Not them too," Joey groaned, rubbing his forehead.

"Breakfast should be here in a minute. Let's go down to our room," Lance said leading JC by the hand.

Joey again looked at Justin who shrugged again. "I think Josh had a little more than we did."

Chris gave Jamie a piggy-back ride down the hall and soon they were all sitting around Lance and JC's room eating a hearty breakfast.

"So you care to fill us in on what happened after dinner?" Joey finally asked. "I have to be out of here in about an hour to catch my flight and inquiring minds need to know."

Jamie began. "Oh, you guys, it was just so awesome. We went all over the place and nobody recognized them. We were holding hands and kissing just like everybody else and nobody even looked twice."

"We even went into a sex shop!" JC giggled.

"You what??!!" Joey said incredulously. "I can't believe you got Lance into one of those."

"It was his idea," Justin laughed.

Lance blushed and shrugged. "Y'all think I'm too sheltered for that but I'm not."

"Oh my God," Chris mumbled.

"We didn't stay long but we certainly got an eye full. At least enough for ideas for your birthday, Chris," Jamie grinned. Joey laughed and ribbed Chris with his elbow. "I got a tattoo!!" Everyone laughed at his enthusiasm as Jamie grinned from ear to ear.

"So let's see it."

"I don't know if you want to, Chris," Lance warned.

"Sure," Jamie volunteered and started dropping his pants.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Joey yelled while laughing.

"Oh, shutup. I'm not gonna give you a free show. Besides, it's not like you've never seen it before." Jamie pushed his pants to his knees then pulled down one side of his briefs to show a small tattoo on his hip just above the leg.

"Real nice," Chris said appraising the design. "Good work. I see it's placed so it can only be seen if you're naked."

Joey looked closely and saw a red heart with 'JuJu' written inside and underneath was a Chinese or Japanese character. "What's it say under the JuJu?"

"It's Japanese for love," Jamie said proudly. He pulled his pants back up and kissed Justin.

"So, you get one too, Josh?" Joey asked, wagging his eyebrows.

"No way." JC waved his hands in front of him and paled.

Justin laughed. "He almost passed out just watching Jamie get his."

"Then what did you do?"

"We ended up at a bar." Justin caught Chris' look. "Yes, Poppa, a GAY bar and we danced and danced. It was so nice to be able to hold him and touch him." Justin blushed a little as he looked over to Jamie and rubbed his cheek with his fingers.

"And..." Joey said with a smirk.

"It was kinda surreal," Jamie finished. "We made out and nobody cared."

Chris laughed quietly and looked to Lance and JC. JC nodded happily. "It was so incredible, Chris. We got to be like you guys for the night."

"Like us?" Chris questioned.

"Well, like when you go out with Dani and dance and kiss and touch. It was such a free feeling, so liberating," Lance added.

Chris nodded his head with a smile. "I'm glad you guys had a good time and it worked out."

Joey stood and stretched. "Well, I have to hit the shower and get dressed, then I'm gone." The others stood with him and gave him hugs and kisses as they made their way into the hallway.

"Have fun, Joe, and don't waste too much film," Justin joked.

"Ya, don't break the camera," JC giggled.

"I'll try. It's only some reshoots and close-ups plus the crew for the holiday special will be with me on Sunday. I'll be in Orlando on Friday or Saturday, depending on how much we have to make up."

Chris looked at him funny. "That's weird. I'm going to LA tonight and they're gonna be at one of our Nordstrom meetings Monday afternoon."

Lance laughed. "And with me on Wednesday with Meredith and the Country Music Awards."

"What about you, Curly?" Joey asked.

"We're going to Maine tomorrow for a couple of days, then back home. I'll be in the studio Thursday with Brian McKnight and they'll be filming that."

"Sounds like they're gonna be busy this week," Chris grinned. "What about you, Jace?"

JC shrugged. "They made an appointment for the beginning of next week to get some shots of me doing producing type things. When do we tape the actual special?"

"The Saturday before the tour starts," Lance replied without even having to think.

JC frowned. "Tour... can't we have another couple of weeks," he groaned. Everyone smiled as Justin mussed his hair.

Jamie took Justin's hand and started pulling him down the hall. "Later guys, I smell like an ashtray and need a shower." Justin followed obediently behind while the others grinned.

"And what do you need Justin for?" Chris asked with a smirk.

"To wash my back, of course," Jamie replied confidently. Turning he fixed his gaze on the group, "and my butt too."

JC fell on Lance's shoulder wheezing with laughter while Chris and Joey turned beet red laughing. Lance had a thoughtful look on his face while he watched Jamie pull Justin into their room.

"Come on, Josh. I need a shower too."

JC smiled and picked Lance up in his arms. "Joe, have a good flight. See ya later, Chris." Lance waved with a smile as JC kicked the door shut.

As soon as Jamie shut the door, Justin had pressed him against it with his body, locking their lips together. "I want you, sweet pea," he said through the kisses as they undressed one another.

"That was the general idea."

Once they were naked, Justin led the way into the bathroom. He turned on the water and pulled Jamie in after him. "All that dancing just kept making me more horny every time you'd rub against me."

"You mean like this?" Jamie rubbed his stomach against Justin's growing erection as he nibbled on his collar bone. Justin moaned loudly in response.

Jamie made his way to his knees and licked around the thick base. Moving up, he licked and sucked on the head making Justin shiver. The running water couldn't mask Justin's moans of pleasure as Jamie blew him. When he was hard and throbbing, Jamie stood and smiled at Justin. Turning quickly, he pressed up against Justin so that his hard cock rode in the crack of his butt.

"I liked feeling you get hard when we were dancing," Jamie sighed. "I fantasized about making love like that with the music blaring and the lights flashing."

Justin was beyond making anything other than pleased sounds. He wrapped his arms around Jamie. One hand found his hard cock and stroked it while the other held them together. With a loud sigh, he clamped his mouth on the base of Jamie's neck and set about giving him the biggest hickey he could.

Jamie groaned with delight. Pulling his hips away from Justin slightly, he let Justin's cock rest against his hole. Justin grunted in approval and shoved slowly with his hips. Jamie cried out as the blunt head breached his opening. He went limp as it slid in fully.

"Oh... oh... oh..." Justin panted as his hips moved in a solid rhythm. Slowly Jamie leaned forward to support himself on the shower wall letting Justin do all the work. He trusted Justin implicitly so let himself open up and give Justin all the control in this position. It was an exhilarating experience for him and made him love Justin all the more.

Justin's pleasure grew and he started thrusting a bit more forcefully. Jamie grunted with each in stroke. "You ok, sweet pea," Justin gasped.

"Yes, baby. It feels so good." Jamie yelled out as Justin bit into his neck and started fucking him hard and fast. "Oh God!"

Justin felt Jamie stiffen as he cried out and then his dick started pulsing in his hand as Jamie came all over the shower wall. The satisfaction of giving his lover pleasure and the feeling of his spasming body in his arms pushed him over the edge as well and he came in strong spurts.

Leaning against the wall, Justin held Jamie while they both recovered. Justin pulled away and soaped up a wash cloth, washing Jamie carefully all over. Squatting down, he lightly kissed Jamie's new tattoo before letting him rinse off. Jamie helped Justin the same way. By the time they were dried off, the lack of sleep and hot water had made them drowsy.

"I love you," Justin said groggily as they slid into bed together.

"I love... you... too..." Jamie answered, each word getting softer as he fell asleep against Justin's chest. Justin kissed his forehead and was out soon after.

After getting some sleep, the remaining five went to a late lunch at fisherman's wharf. Chris put on a dreadlock wig and colored his goatee purple as a disguise. He looked ridiculous and got plenty of strange glances but no one recognized him. Once he was in a taxi to the airport, Justin and Jamie headed off separately from JC and Lance agreeing to meet back at the hotel for dinner.

Walking hand and hand, they window shopped and talked about ideas for adding to the decor of the house. They stopped in a few antique stores and bought some small pieces and had them shipped. Jamie stopped when he saw a fortune teller's sign. "Look, sweetie, let's get a tarot reading."

"You can. Those things make me a little uneasy."

"Ok."

They walked in and were shown through the front room to a small side room with a table. The reader was a middle-aged man who introduced himself as Scott. He smiled at them and put them at ease quickly. "I know you probably want to be with him for the reading, but having another person so close interferes with the energy." He directed Justin to sit in the front parlor to wait. After looking around carefully, Justin pecked Jamie on the cheek and went.

Jamie sat, getting a little nervous. "I've never had this done before."

"Relax, I guarantee it doesn't hurt. Do you have anything in particular in mind or just a general reading?"

"General, please."

Scott smiled while he shuffled then directed Jamie to cut the deck. He placed several cards out and sat studying them. "I sense a loss in your past. A male figure, much older."

"My father died when I was very young," Jamie supplied

Scott nodded. "You have brothers, one older and one younger. The older has become your father-figure and loves you very much." Scott pointed to a card, a king on horseback carrying a sword. "He'd do anything to protect you." He turned several more cards. "Even though your younger brother is a pest, he loves you as much as you love him and he does look up to you."

After a pause he looked up at Jamie sharply. "What?" Jamie started getting a little nervous now. Scott had been way too accurate in the little he'd said so far.

"I'm so sorry." He reached over and patted Jamie's hand. "You've been hurt terribly in the recent past." Jamie nodded numbly. Scott cleared his throat. "There's that and also much love associated with it. Let's move beyond the past." More cards were dealt. "I see happier times and something to do with entertainment." He tapped a card. "You've met the person destined for you, your soul mate and he's very creative like you. You both will be very successful at what you intend to do with your futures. I see dancing. Is he one?"

"He dances some, ya."

He rubbed his chin, a perplexed look on his face. "What is it, Scott?"

"Is he your boyfriend?" Scott indicated the other room.

"Yes, my fiance actually."

"Congratulations," he smiled. "Well, it shows here," he tapped a card with a knight carrying a staff, "that your soul mate is light haired and blue eyed." He glanced toward the door to the waiting room. "I'm sorry, but sometimes the cards get mixed up a little but this is too strong to be a mistake."

Jamie giggled. "Well, Randy is usually dark blond, but he dyed his hair to try something different."

Scott's face lit up. "That's good to know, I thought I was losing my touch!" They laughed and he pulled some more cards. "Your fiance wants to come out but something is preventing him and there's concern for his career."

"Any idea what will happen when he does?" Jamie asked anxiously.

Scott lay down some more cards. "Everything here seems to say that whatever you do -together- will all be good. No indication about his situation though. I see very little that's negative related to you both." He glanced at some other cards. "That's interesting..." He looked at Jamie again. "You have some unfinished business with someone, like that, but different. It's clear thought that until that's taken care of nothing else will fall into place."

Jamie exhaled loudly. "Wow."

"Let's go further into the future." More cards went on top of those already down. Scott grinned. "I see a small family of your own and much happiness related to it." He shook his head. "There's some sadness surrounding you though, possibly friends in need or relatives but that's normal as you get older. I see the same person in the far future," Scott smiled at him and glanced once again at the door, "blond hair and all." Scott gathered the cards and grinned.

Jamie laughed. "That's amazing that you picked up on all that. Thanks."

"I hope you got some peace of mind at least. On the whole it was a very positive reading and you should be very happy. Just a word of advice." Jamie nodded waiting. "In the near future, I'd say within the next six months you'll both be tested by many things. If you let your problems overshadow the love you have for each other then..." he shrugged. "But if you hold each other close in your hearts everything will work out fine, even if at the time it seems it won't."

"You see that in the cards too?" Jamie asked.

"A little, but most of it is just friendly advice."

Together Jamie and Justin left the shop talking quietly as Jamie related the reading to Justin.

Scott watched them walk away. "There's some pain ahead for them," he muttered. "If they can weather that then they'll be fine. They're so cute together, I hope they make it." He smiled as another customer came through the door.

After a nice dinner at a small restaurant hidden away in China Town, JC led them to a club that he knew about. He didn't give them any details but assured them they would enjoy it, especially Jamie. It turned out to be a Jazz club. It had a very laid back atmosphere with mixed couples spread out in the audience. There was an area for dancing and the combo performing was very good.

The two couples talked quietly while listening. Every so often they'd get up to dance. After a few hours they left to find a cab to take them back to the hotel. They decided to make it an early night since they hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and all had early planes to catch.

"Josh, thanks for taking us there, it was perfect," Jamie smiled kissing him on the cheek.

"K-Toonz told me about it and gave me directions. He figured we'd like it."

Lance hooked his arm around JC's waist and rested his hand in one back pocket. "Thanks, sugar. This is one weekend I won't forget for a long time."

"Same here," Justin agreed. Hailing a taxi, they piled in and headed back.

"So what are you gonna do for the week, Josh?" Jamie asked as they walked through the hotel lobby.

"Off to LA for a day or two to check on some things, then back to New York for a day, then home."

"What kind of 'things' you checking on?" Justin asked curiously.

"I've got some irons in the fire about producing and want to check on them in person."

Lance smiled at him. "I'm glad you're pursuing that. You're very good at it."

JC blushed. "Thanks, darling." He gave Lance a kiss and blushed.

The car came to a stop and Jamie looked over to Justin who had been driving. "As much as I like traveling, it's nice to be home."

"Agreed," Justin smiled at him. Once the garage door was closed they left the car and headed into the house.

Fitzgerald came running at the sound of them in the kitchen and jumped into Jamie's arms. "Hi, baby. You miss daddy?" The young cat purred loudly and rubbed against Jamie's chest. Justin put his hand out to scratch the cat's head and she licked his fingers.

"She loves you like I do," Justin said softly.

"She loves both of us," Jamie answered. He leaned over and kissed Justin. The cat jumped out of Jamie's arms and went off on her own again. Jamie laughed. "So much for that. It was great of your mother to take care of her while we were gone."

"We'll have to take her out to dinner or something. I'm going to take a shower."

"I thought you took one this morning?"

Justin smiled sheepishly. "I opted for extra sleep time instead."

Jamie ran his fingers through Justin's curls. "It's all gone now," he said wistfully.

"You like Randy better than JuJu?" he pouted. With a smile, Jamie put his hands on either side of Justin's head and kissed him soundly. "I guess not," he said gasping for breath. He glanced at the clock. "I still have a few hours before I'm meeting with Brian."

Jamie nodded and went over to plow through the pile of mail sitting on the counter as Justin went upstairs. As soon as he heard the water start running he went into their bedroom and undressed. Laying on the bed he waited until he heard the water stop. In a just a second Justin came into the room wiping himself dry.

"Oh, I like this," he said with a smile, joining Jamie.

The next morning Jamie woke to Justin's arms around him. He smiled, loving the feeling of the closeness. Justin had been in the studio all afternoon and late into the night. Jamie had fallen asleep waiting for him on the living room couch. Justin must've carried him in to bed.

Carefully so not to wake Justin, Jamie got out of bed and threw on some clothes. He headed downstairs, detouring for a glass of orange juice before going out to the back porch. Sitting down on the porch swing, he thought about his meeting.

Nobody could find out anything and no one was giving any more information than he already had. It bothered him a little that he'd be going in cold. He turned his head and peered into the window catching sight of the calendar hanging on the refrigerator.

Jamie scanned forward through the dates silently counting down to the tour. His eyes stopped on one square. It was a simple number really, but it turned Jamie's blood to ice. With a whimper, he curled up and started crying.

Justin came slowly out of a happy dream. He felt something missing and knew that Jamie had already gotten up. Something wasn't right but he was too sleepy to make sense of it. Snuggling back into the covers, he started drifting.

The shrill ring of his cell phone on the nightstand snapped his eyes open. Moaning, he reached over and brought it to him. "Hello?"

"Hey Curly!"

"Oh, hi there Chris," Justin mumbled.

"Well don't be so happy to hear from me. Are you still asleep?"

"If I was still asleep I wouldn't be talking to you, Einstein."

"Ok, Ok... grouchy much?"

"Sorry, yesterday was long. What time is it anyway?"

"Almost 8. I'm on the plane and wanted you to know that I'll be there for lunch. Anyone gonna be around."

"I'll be finishing up with Brian McKnight and Jamie's meeting is at 11. But Joey's back so you should call him."

"Well, I'll let you get back to your beauty sleep. God knows you need it!"

"Hardy har har, you should go into stand-up. You might get a fan following that way."

"Ouch. Touche! Talk to you later, Just."

"Ok, Chris. Love ya, bud."

"Back at ya."

Justin placed the phone back and lay down facing the ceiling. Again he wondered where Jamie was. By now he almost expected that breakfast would be ready and he'd be smelling it. Justin smiled at his memories of the last month. Things were as perfect as he could have ever imagined.

'NSync was finally getting the recognition they all craved in the industry. He had spent some great quality time with Jamie on vacation. Life was good. 'I now have all I've ever wanted to have,' he thought happily. 'Well, maybe except for the patter of little feet.' He'd thought long about Jamie's dream of having a son. The idea of being a parent scared him a little, but it also made him feel warm inside.

He'd talked to his mother on the phone a day ago and she'd been thrilled to hear they were thinking of adopting at some point, although cautioned to wait until they'd been together for awhile and enjoyed being just a couple first. Justin smiled knowing that Lynn always supported him 100 percent. In fact, he knew she was excited by the prospect of being a grandma even though she'd never admit it.

Justin cuddled a pillow remembering the feelings he had when he got home the night before. He was late and feeling bad that his session at the studio had taken so long. He went searching for Jamie and found him asleep in the basement on a couch, the TV blaring near him.

Justin shut down everthing and picked Jamie up to take him to bed. While he was carrying him upstairs, Jamie started talking a little in his sleep.

"Justin, I do love you," he said in a murmur.

Justin smiled and Jamie burrowed his head into Justin's shoulder as he continued. "I want to have your baby..." His mumblings then became incoherent.

Justin nearly dropped Jamie he was so shocked and amused. "If only it was so simple, sweet pea," he whispered into Jamie's ear softly before kissing his temple.

He gently placed Jamie in bed, stripped off all their clothes and snuggled up. Jamie grabbed onto Justin, still asleep, and lay his head on Justin's chest.

"Nice..." he said simply.

Justin loved the feeling of being in love, of having someone that was his, of him belonging to someone else. That it was Jamie was even better. Whatever fate had brought them together, it was a good one. He never thought in his wildest dreams that he'd find someone so perfectly matched to him. On thinking about Jamie, the feeling of unease returned. Something was definitely not right.

Getting out of bed, he grabbed a Tshirt and pair of boxers and put them on as he walked downstairs. He saw the porch swing moving through the kitchen window and went out through the door.

"Jamie?" he asked quietly while crossing to the swing. He picked up Jamie's head, sat and put it in his lap. He stroked Jamie's hair for a minute before speaking. "You want to tell me what's wrong?"

Jamie sobbed a little. "I just looked at the calendar, that's all." He tried to sit up but Justin held him down and rubbed his back.

"The calendar?" Justin glanced into the house and saw the calendar. He scanned it, looking for clues. Nothing jumped out at him until he noticed that it was October. Understanding came through him as he bent over Jamie and hugged him firmly. "It's all right, sweet pea. It's just a date, it can't hurt you."

"I know..." Jamie snuffled. "I just noticed it and I got a little overwhelmed. I'm fine."

"No, you're not fine." Jamie stiffened at the words. "But you're getting close, sweetie."

Jamie relaxed and sighed. "Let's go take a nice hot bath."

"Sounds good to me."

Jamie was driving and Justin had his hand on his thigh. Every so often he looked over at him with concern. Jamie had been a little quiet the rest of the morning but Justin let him and would reassure him with a caress or kiss here and there. Not liking to ride silently, he made small talk.

"Thanks for driving me to work, honey. I feel so domestic this way."

Jamie smiled and glanced at Justin. "Well, it only made sense. We're both gonna be in the same part of town and I'll be done before you..." he shrugged.

"I like it. It works out because Brian is still gonna take us out to dinner tonight. You up to it?"

"Ya, it will be fun."

"So what did you do yesterday?"

"Answered my email, it was backed way up. Um, floated in the pool for a little while, went grocery shopping for the next week. Cleaned the bedroom and bathroom. Took Fitzie for a checkup at the Vets..."

"Ok, ok... I guess you kept yourself busy."

Jamie smiled again. "It was fun, I liked it."

"You were so cute last night when I got home."

"I'm sorry, I tried to stay up."

"It's ok. You were mumbling in your sleep when I was carrying you."

"Oh, anything profound?"

"Not really," Justin giggled and Jamie poked his arm with a smile. "You said you loved me and wanted to have my baby."

The car swerved a little as Jamie laughed out loud. Justin smiled and sighed. Getting Jamie to laugh out loud like that had been one thing he enjoyed hearing. "I sorta remember that dream. Maybe tonight we can see if it might be possible?" he wagged his eyebrows.

Justin felt his temperature rise and his pants get a little tight. "It's a date," he said huskily. "But we might have to both try it."

"You know it, sexy."

Jamie entered the office building, checking the address he had written down. He shrugged then went to the reception/security desk.

"Hi, I'm Jamie Campbell and have an appointment in suite 510."

The guard smiled at him and checked a clipboard. "Sure thing. Head on up, the elevators are right over there." The guard pointed and smiled again before turning his attention to the another person who'd entered after him.

Jamie entered the elevator as it opened and pushed the button for the fifth floor. Just as the door closed he caught sight of a tall blond haired guy walk by. Jamie shook his head thinking for sure that it had been Nick Carter but shrugged it off as being his imagination.

As the car started moving, he wondered once again what this meeting could be about. It wasn't at the studio offices, so it probably wasn't directly related to his job. Several calls to the studio yielded nothing. Even Lance and Johnny had no luck in finding anything out.

Suite 510 was directly across from the elevator and the plate on the door read: 'The Firm.' Chuckling to himself over the reference to the John Grisham novel he went through the door and announced his arrival to the receptionist.

The name was vaguely familiar to him in another way but he couldn't place where he'd heard about it before. From the decorations on the walls he assumed it was a managing firm for artists. He hoped he wasn't called here just to see if he'd sign on with them.

He was directed to wait and after a few minutes and man in a Brooks Brothers suit came out and shook his hand.

"Max Shorey, Jamie, nice to meet you."

"Same here, Max."

"I bet you're wondering why we asked you here?"

"It had crossed my mind. Information has been kinda scarce."

Max laughed. "This industry has become so cut throat at times it surprises even me. We'll explain it all to you in a minute."

"-We-?" Jamie asked.

"My associates and I. This way please." He led Jamie down a hall to a conference room. Max opened the door and motioned Jamie to enter. As he got through the door he saw two figures in front of the windows standing directly in the sun so Jamie couldn't make out their features.

"Shall we begin?" Max asked the two.

Jamie gaped as Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell stepped out of the sunlight.
